Hi everyone! As we are continuously working toward providing the best gaming and entertainment experience on PlayStation 3, I wanted to give you all a heads up on the following new features and changes coming with the next system software update (v.3.70).
To make things easier for PlayStation Plus subscribers, we’ve added the option to automate two existing features. The [Automatic Download] feature will now be called [Automatic Update] as a result of these new options.
- A new auto upload function for online save data back-up will be added to make it easier to back-up your game save data. Under (Game), select the game for which you want to automatically upload saved data, and then press the Triangle button.
- Also, Trophies will now sync automatically at the timing of Auto Download.
A new recommendation function will be added that enables you to share your recommendations for PlayStation Store items, such as games and videos, with PlayStation Network friends. You will be able to send messages with a store link from the product pages within the PlayStation Store.
Due to the increase in video applications being offered on PS3, we are adding a new category on the XMB called TV/Video Services. This category will include video applications such as Netflix, Hulu PLUS, and VUDU.
- You’ll be able to find and download all of the video applications available on PS3 directly from this new XMB category.
- A folder labeled “My Channels” within this category will allow you to easily access your downloaded applications.
- Any videos downloaded from the PlayStation store will continue to be placed in the existing Video category on the XMB
Two updates for all of you enjoying Blu-ray 3D movies on PS3:
- 3D support will now be available when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-Ray
- DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output (or lossless audio) will be supported while playing Blu-ray 3D movies.
- 3D digital photos in MPO format can now be viewed in 3D on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.
The 3.70 update will be available soon; additional details will be available after the firmware goes live here. Separately, there will also be a minor PSP system software update (v. 6.60) launching soon.

That’s cross game chat/party chat. Isn’t that like the most breakthrough idea that we have had on xbox for like forever. Which is why most people by multiplatform games on xbox when they have both systems. I know thats why I do.

These new features are nice but aren’t anything to brag about.
To make matters worse, I’m tired of reading about new additions that are only for PS+!
This isn’t xbox. The Welcome Back program proved PS+ is not worth it and I had it free.
It’s going to be very hard for Sony to not give PS+ special or unwarranted treatment.
I am somewhat confused about the automatic cloud save???? Are you saying that the PS3 will automatically upload the new progress of a game save so we don’t have to keep going to the cloud save and uploading the new game progress if so that is great news. Next i am somewhat disappointed in the auto sync of trophy’s since its not automatically synced once a new trophy is collected.
It would of been a better idea to sync the trophy’s instantly and removing the sync trophy option all together when clicking on triangle.
Hopefully by the time the next firmware comes up in Sept we will solve the issue of the comparison of trophy’s it takes way too long to compare trophy’s with our friends. Also in game if you try to look at your trophy’s there is a huge time delay it would be nice to solve these issues.
Last i am still hoping soon us Plus Subscribers will have the option to choose what game we want to get for our free PSN game of the month. So far i am feeling cheated since all i have benefited so far has been the free themes.

So am I to understand that us regular PS users are getting hosed now? I mean cloud saves for PS+ sure whatever I can always back up my stuff, but auto-sync trophies for PS+ only!? Seriously this is a feature that should have been available a long time ago and you’re telling me its for + only!? Will us regular users be getting anything good from here on out? I mean one of the big reasons to choose ps3 over 360 was PSN is free, but now slowly its becoming to where you get the bare naked bones if you don’t have PS+ might as well just get all online games on xbox and get all the other benefits that LIVE has instead if I have to pay either way to get anything meaningful.
Come on, trophies should have always auto-synced with or without Plus. Oh well I am still grateful for most of PSN being free.
Great update in that the XMB seems ALOT faster for me now.
This is really bad Sony. The more I read (and trust me I read every comment so far all 405 of them) the more I see how PS+ is really fragmenting the Playstation community into the haves and have nots. Basically spitting in the logic and meaning of a community. I think we can all understand some of the benefits of PS+ (for example the Cloud Saves and now the Auto Upload of saves to the cloud) those additions make perfect sense for PS+. But things such as Auto Downloads and Auto Trophy Sync do not. I have heard this from both PS+ members and non + members.
I know the people making these decisions at Sony can’t be that out of touch with the community. It’s greed at basest levels we all see this and it is really sad. I mean for gosh sake I can’t even log into any Playstation site with my PS3 because the PS3’s browser is so outdated and it has been years that this has been an issue. Now again video’s on the blog cannot be viewed because the browser doesn’t support the updated application your using for your video’s on the blog, can you see how stupid and backwards this is?
I don’t know who is running the show but who ever it is needs to either open their eyes really fast or get fired and replaced with someone who is competent and knows what the community wants and needs. Sorry Dude Times Up!!!

But every time it takes ages for me to download it via my PS3.
It would be great if the link for the firmware download on PC was available the moment new firmware goes live.
Right now it’s only possible to download FW3.66.

Dear Sony what I want for the next update is are very own avatar messages sync and game sync and game data sync and unlimited friends play online with pc and xbox and lets see who is better console ?? I don’t think that would happend though but yea iPhone/iPad/iPod touch sync and better themes. More profile colors write more on status comment that’s about everything :)
so…….. we have to pay a subscription fee for updates now………..(PS PLUS)…………… sony you make it really hard to want to remain a customer these days the updates have been pretty crappy and now we have to have ps plus to even use them…… i mean wtf’s the point anymore the only reason i use ps3 was cause the networking was free, PSN’s future is starting to look pretty dark to me……….

I wanted the playstation 3 flash plugins to be properly updated for full hd video streaming/playback on sites with hd video streaming/playback & being able to view pictures from other sites in hd as well & for other sites to load up properly without freezing & or crashing & or going to a blank pages?

Great update, but do you have any plans for changing the XMB the interface with the ps3? its to ‘wordy’ and theres so much stuff on it it really needs to be ‘cluttered down’ :(
Pretty sweet update for 3d movie lovers since we finally have a way to play 3dbluray and no longer lose loseless audio. I’d say that’s a major accomplishment seeing as the ps3 is five years old and got upgraded not only to play 3d blurays with limited 1.3 hdmi but now we get back loseless audio that’s huge.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Sony have been pretty continuous in disappointing me with the network updates ever since they decided to “only release larger updates on fewer occassions”. I remember seeing one or two updates that were like “Ok, this is sort of worth it.” before it faded away… Well, Sony I hope you keep up the support for the Playstation Vita. Just please don’t get hooked up on “security updates” unless you can manage to pull those off along with some worthwhile updates for us consumers.

Why are you entitled to updated content if it’s free. If someone pays a premium and someone doesn’t, who should get the perks? The paying customer. And it’s not the haves vs the have nots. It’s the I CHOOSE to pay and you CHOOSE not to. Nobody has a gun to your head…thank goodness cuz then you’d be in China and probably lost and hungry =]. But seriously, stop it with the class warfare. I don’t feel superior because I jumped on this train. IO halfway agree that trophy syncing should be across the board but somebody’s gotta pay to implement that. Maybe it’s a test on a smaller group. Just stop complaining. This is free. If you want more than the economy package, you have to pay. You can’t fly on a plane and go screaming into first-class about how unfair it is they have wider seats.

Anyone who cares, use the online storage. You never know. About a month ago my PS3 got wiped and the only thing I had to show for three years of “work” was my one and only cloud save: 167 hours of Fallout 3 was loaded back on my system. It truly is heart breaking. Not all your multiplayer ranks and stats are on the publisher’s servers either. For example Brink had to be started over. I put a decent amount of time into getting to level 7 (I think 7)…anyhoo, all that info was in my save files, not on their servers. Just use it. Oh and my A/C is broken so I can’t sleep. It’s 91 degrees in my house. Stay cool.
Why can’t they just make a cross game voice chat?? This is just the one thing that annoys me about ps3, the rest of the console is great.

HELP!, after I updated to this. I cant start any chapters on uncharted 2, the dagger spins for ever, and the music goes onto a 2 second loop. When I quit the game my ps3 resets. Fix this soon please, one trophie away from platinum >.<
Really great update!!! It will be so much easier now that my saves will automatically be saved online. I almost always forget to upload the most recent save to online storage. This solves that problem!! Thanks Sony!!!

I wonder if cross game chat is nearly as annoying as the people who come here and DEMAND it every freaking day. And I love all these posts that say crap like “Sony, you better” or “You better not”. It’s too funny. If any of you little people were my sons, I would have beaten you and marched you to Sony to apologize for being an embarassment to me and the family name. I guess anonimity is good for one thing. You can come here and be an imbicile without consequences. Lastly, Cross Game Chat IS Never Going to Happen On The PS# Platform. It’s logistically impossible. All the past games would have to go back and add it and they will NOT do this out of the kindness of their hearts. It takes money people, and there’s no money in a standard feature. Use it on Vita and PS4, 5, 6, 7 , and 8. But it ain’t happening on 3. And to me that is funny.

Yay, another benefit on being a + subscriber, if only they actually allowed for a sub account to either change to a master account to then be able to purchase the subscription OR allow sub accounts to purchase p+ Then i might actually be able to use this.
@436 I have used cross game chat on the xbox and I didn’t care for it I didn’t feel like talking on mic to other people who aren’t even in the game I am playing i found it distracting

Auto Syncing trophies is a good feature. I would like it though if you could add the option to delete unwanted trophies as well.
