Resistance fans will be happy to hear that the signature PlayStation franchise will join the PS Vita software lineup with Resistance: Burning Skies, a new Resistance experience developed specifically for PS Vita that takes full advantage of the system’s dual analog sticks and features an all-new hero and story written by William C. Dietz, author of Resistance: The Gathering Storm and Resistance: A Hole in the Sky.

SCEE also announced a brand-new title: Escape Plan, a ‘touching adventure’ where you use touch controls to guide our newest characters “Lil” and “Laarg” through a dark labyrinth of puzzles and traps.

Our publishing partners also unveiled some big news at gamescom: Ubisoft will launch a brand-new Assassin’s Creed for PS Vita, and EA Sports is bringing FIFA, the world’s most popular sports title, to the platform. As we mentioned at E3, the biggest and best games are coming to PS Vita, and today’s announcements further confirm that promise.

Please stay tuned as we bring you more updates from gamescom in Germany, and let us know what new titles and applications for PS Vita you’re most excited about in the comments below.

  • Apart from release date, there’s lots more questions like:
    1. What colours will be available (hoping for White)?
    2. Pricing and other information for 3G plans (especially for Canadian markets).
    3. Price/Size of memory cards.
    4. What accessories will be available?

And so on. Hopefully, we’ll continue to learn more about Vita soon.

  • Would be great if there were some apps to check emails as well, but awesome that the Vita has non-gaming apps. Great to see so many games coming to Vita and hopefully they’ll be around launch window or at least we get to see some gameplay. PS Vita being at the same price as a PS3 is troublesome is a bit troublesome and I would’ve loved to hear from Quantic Dreams, but all in all a good Gamescom.

  • Escape Plan looks RIGHT up my street! :D I thought it might be Media Molecule’s new game but now I’m not so sure. Resistance looked solid with some unexpected but justified touch controls for special alt fire abilities.

Rayman Origins! Gotta see it on the OLED screen.
Assassin’s Creed, gotta see more. Shouldn’t be watered down like the PSP game this time.

I wonder what the other four UBISOFT games are.

  • There was an email app icon in the January NGP unveiling. Not necessarily something they’re still supporting for launch but SCEJ’s obviously thought about it.

PS3’s five year old desktop technology. PSVITA’s cutting edge handheld tech. It should be no surprise the PS3 costs the same or less.

  • I just keep finding more and more reasons to love the PSVita. I mean, PlayStation Exclusive, Facebook, Twitter, and Skype?….Skype?!!! You pretty much have me sold if you can pull all of that off.
Well done Sony! I’ve got to hand it to you. The PSVita just keeps getting better and better. I aprove.

  • Interesting that we’re getting Skype, seeing as it’s owned by Microsoft. Didn’t see that one coming…

…except I did. South American Sony press conference leaked it months ago. Still, good to have it confirmed.

  • @marlyt: yes, they do like to jerk us around a bit, don’t they? I don’t know why, there can’t be any reasonable business purpose to that. It’s not like when your friends are planning a surprise birthday party for you but they pretend they’re all going to be busy on your birthday.

I don’t blame the guys here, Sid & Jeff & Rey, etc. They must be told to remain mum and they like their jobs. So top-down pronouncement, but it makes no sense when upper mgmt has already confirmed news elsewhere, and not just the Vita but other things as well.

Like, try to pry info about Sorcery or Last Guardian out of any Sony staff, you’d need enhanced interrogation methods.

But, lest I be banned, I will hasten to add I’m a happy customer anyway, and am waiting for more awesomeness all the time.

  • AWESOME!! I Hope I Have That $$$$$ Saved Up For The Vita When It Comes Out… Till Then… I Got A Question.

I Know That It’s A Little Weird To Ask It… But… Will I Be Able To Watch “YouTube” Videos Or Stream NetFlix Movies On My PSVita?

I Think That It Is Kind Of Important To Know!

  • Assassin’s creed on Vita ?

    Bought and Bought !

  • Um… Isn’t the Screen Resolution BELOW 720P? Don’t mind me, but is it true? The reason for lowering the screen resolution was due to one main reason: Cost? Wished it would be AT 720P… :-p But still, good enough for me to have plenty of awesome features available on PSV!

  • I know this what brought up, but I’m going to bring it up anyway. How come there’s a Skype app for the PSP, Xperia Play, and Vita, but not the PS3. It’s like the PS3 gets every other app but that. Sure, I love the idea to be able to video chat on the PS Vita (group chat would put even more icing on the cake), but why can’t it be shared with all of the Playstation family. There’s even a Skype on one of the Bravia TV’s. Why can’t the PS3 get that app? I bet if the PS3 had that app, it will sell more PSEye’s than the Move controller. Especially if it had Skype and OovoO.

  • Will there also be a Qriocity Music Unlimited app that works on the Vita like it does on the PSP? That would be a very important thing for me since i already enjoy it so much on my PS3 and PSP but it would be awesome to also be able to stream music on the go over the 3G network.

  • can’t wait to get my hands on the vita. i just want to touch it

  • Great more 3rd party games where all we get is a logo or a name. Hey guys, how about some footage from Call of Duty, Bioshock, or Assassin’s Creed?

  • So you guys are sayin that vita will support skype? So far best feature on vita. BUT!? Will we be able to use skype while playin games or whatever? If not, just as lame as ps3 with no cross chat. Also, what kind of internet browser is the vita browser? Crap sony browser?

  • Sorry I jumped ahead, so far vita is better than ps3, its bigger hardware brother, because it can do voice chat. A little too late. Now the ps3 is outdated, how sad.

  • Other features that consumers want on PS3 that aren’t on PS3 but are on Vita, not even an official announcement from Sony of when those features will come to PS3. Besides the mandatory feature cross party chat via Party, Vita will also get native Facebook, Twitter and Skype apps that the PS3 still doesn’t have and it’s been released almost five years ago.

I SERIOUSLY hope the mandatory features like cross party chat, trophy auto sync, etc and native social networks apps are coming to PS3 for your own good Sony, but don’t have us wait until Vita launches or near it’s launch to give it to us! That’s just dumb for many reasons! Just in case you’re thinking it, if you release those features on PS3 tomorrow, it wouldn’t take anything away from Vita or make it less appealing because Vita will also have them!

  • If RAM or any other hardware is the issue for cross party chat and the other mandatory features not being on PS3 yet, than release all future PS3’s with the problem(s) fixed and give all PS3 owners that don’t have the new PS3 an add on for free that fixes the problem. SERIOUSLY!

  • Will their be Netflix at launch? or ever for that matter?

  • looks good.

  • Make Call of Duty and FIFA launch titles for their respective regions (COD for USA, FIFA for Europe) and the Vita will fly off the shelves.

  • Please, P L E A S E!!! This new Resistance game should have a health bar instead of an auto recovery sistem. Is part of the Resistance legacy and personality. Give it identity, dont make another Call of Duty clone. I love the series, I´m still playing R:FoM online, and it´s always a great time but it´s because I´m playing what I want: a great, gritty, with awsome guns and self-love 1st person shooter, not another yearly game made only to make more money (yes, you CoD, and you too Medal of Honor).

  • Naruto For PS Vita!!
    NOW!

  • don’t care about Facebook, Twitter or the other apps, but Resistance looks good

  • i know this is vita and all, but just in general thought for handhelds, why would i wanna play the big titles on a smaller scale when when they are obviously better on the big consoles. how interesting is it to play a smaller scale spinoff of the ORIGINAL series that has its home on, lets say, the PS3? my point is i believe handhelds would benefit greatly from ORIGINAL IP’s. i wanna play new games on my new Vita, not re-hash same old same old. its why the psp failed, there was nothing to play on it. Give Vita its own exclusive identity with brand new titles! i am not buying a “little ps3” i want PSVita with its own identity. the big N seems to understand this now sony should too.

  • @AceBeeDee: the main reason i would get the playstation vita is because i could play online with 3g connection just about any where.

  • @74

Vita is a portable, which the point is you can play on the go. But I completely understand what you’re saying that is why Vita should be able to play your PS3 games and vice versa without either device needed to be connected to the internet or either device being in a “stuck” mode like how currently the PS3 is when it’s in Remote Play mode.

Also, I completely understand what you are saying, Vita should have it’s own games from current IP’s that utilize Vita functions that aren’t on PS3 like rear touch panel and touch screen for the people that already own a PS3 or 360 as well as games that are also on PS3 and 360 for the people who don’t own a PS3 and 360 who want to play those games.

  • @75

One killer feature of Vita would be to be able to do that and I would buy the 3G version if you could but sadly you can’t.

  • if COD black ops or mw3 is not on the ps vita then im probably not getting it. I need to also be able to play with friends that are playing online on the ps3 to be able to play online with me on the same game or else ill probably not get the ps vita. COD must be able to play cross system and 3g playing online at the same time. that’s the main reason that i will get the ps vita.

  • Please show the browser! is it flash enabled can it use youtube?

  • Assassin’s Creed…PSVita….

I need a new pair of pants! :-D

  • cant wait for the Vita!

  • @SoleAddict23 why do you have to mention the 360 in almost every comment you make? jeez…..

  • Will the skype app be usable while playing games?

  • PS Vita = best portable system ever

  • How bout’ some Twitter on PS3

  • Even more reason to get the PSVita, can’t wait to play this.

  • @ Lisatsunami–Thank you for your reply as I know we won’t get anything anytime soon of the official variety. There has been one person who, despite my thoughts on him personally, showed a huge amount of guts on this blog: David Jaffe. He came here and told us TM was not coming in October and he took the heat. He treated us like adults. I also blame none of the messengers on this deal. They break what they can as far as news goes. But when the Senior PR Manager won’t answer questions it feels like “Oh waiter there’s a fly in my soup.” And the waiter pretends I don’t exist. I just think it’s wrong since this is the Official Playstation Blog. If I don’t read or confirm it here, it’s not happening.

  • This is why I LOVE PlayStation. The Vita’s gonna be great. Sucks that US has to wait till 2012

  • How about some built-in google+ support and a decent browser such as Chrome?

  • Finally. Skype on a console!

  • I can’t wait for the Vita and all it’s games will you guys be showing more awesome games close to launch?

  • I’m getting the Vita but I’m not sure I’m gonna get Resistance: Burning Skies NIHILISTIC lost me with there adaptation of what they thought would be like if Sly, Jak and Ratchet meet in PlayStation Move Heroes, but they might win me back if the majority of fans like this.

  • that Escape Plan is more than awesome is pure awesomeness.Cant wait to play.

  • @Sub-Zero:
No matter how many times Sony tells them that it is the developers responsibility to include Cross-Game-Chat into their games. That fact seems to get “lost in the translation”, the reason is that Nintendo holds patents since 1998 with Cross-Game-Chat on the Internet when they were considering Internet connectivity. Nintendo had some grand ideas back then, I would bet that Mortal Kombat was scheduled to by Multiplayer when it was launched on the Nintendo consoles and it was roundly trounced for its violent, mostly bloody guts in the game.

I searched Google Patents and found that it was Nintendo that held patents for Internet voice/text chat to set up games and talk while gaming… And those Patents have a 15 year lifespan so 1998+15 = 2013 before any other Console can legally get Internet Chat into their gamine console. The reason the X-box can is that it uses Windows as its OS and that creates a client releationship with any Windows NT based server network which M$ owns. So that is considered a “Private Network”, but what Sony users want would be a public network since they do not own the code for the server farms needed to create Cross-Game-Chat rooms…

  • I would like and update on Sorcery (thanks for the reminder LisaT) and Sideway: New York.

@ SpeedRacer–GL getting anyone in the cross game chat lobby to see reason. I must admit SubZero is the most reasonable XGC-er I’ve encountered. What ever happened to Aquastorm?

  • i like it great graphics and games but
    come’on no cod

  • @97 (SKYLINER34RB26)

They have already announced Call of Duty way back when the PS Vita was announced so you don’t have to worry about not having it :)

  • @plaztiksyke

Vita has 512MB RAM and 128MB VRAM
