DIRECTV and PlayStation Bring NFL Sunday Ticket to PS3

Hello PlayStation Nation!

Are you ready for some football!

We are excited to announce that PlayStation has partnered with DIRECTV to bring its popular sports subscription service, NFL SUNDAY TICKET, to the PlayStation 3 game console. PlayStation owners across the country will now have the opportunity to watch every out-of-market Sunday game on their PS3.

DIRECTV and PlayStation announce NFL SUNDAY TICKET on PS3

How do you get in the game? At the start of the season, viewers who do not currently have access to DIRECTV will be able to subscribe to NFL SUNDAY TICKET at the season price of $339.95. Existing DIRECTV customers who already have NFL SUNDAY TICKET and NFL SUNDAY TICKET To-Go through DIRECTV can access the service on their PS3 for no additional charge.

NFL SUNDAY TICKET is a DIRECTV-exclusive sports package that offers:

  • Up to 14 NFL games every Sunday
  • Full HD for every football game
  • DIRECTV’s Red Zone Channel

We know that PlayStation fans are huge sports enthusiasts, so adding NFL SUNDAY TICKET is the perfect complement to the PS3’s rapidly growing lineup of sports entertainment, including MLB.TV and NHL GameCenter. We’ll have more info, including a video tutorial and sign up information on the blog shortly. I hope you’re as excited for the football season as we are.

  • How about I just watch the team I like on their scheduled days for free and spend the $340 on beer for the season…yeah…sounds a little better.

  • Hey The 5 month Payment plan would Be an AWESOME option for those without DirectTV…

  • @yazter NFL? US only? No way

  • My head slid back when I saw the price. Thought, “Hey, this might be something for my dad,” but when the service costs more than a high-end PS3…good grief.

  • dude I rather sing up for NFL network streaming and watch the games online in HD…way cheaper.

  • Too much $$$ but its a move in the right direction!!!

    Let’s have SPOTIFY on the PS3 !!!!

and like one other comment said, HBOGO !!!!

  • I remember when NFL pass was like $220 a few years back and I thought THAT was expensive! Guess we know who is getting the short end of the stick in this new bargaining agreement! $340 to watch on a TV or $500 for 1 ticket to 1 game, MADNESS!

  • I’ve always thought the Sunday Ticket was overpriced compared to other leagues passes. They should look into offering team specific packages. I’m not paying 340 for the whole league. But I would consider something for just the team I wanted to see. Maybe they could just offer the Red Zone Channel as well.

  • i have directv in my house but i dont have the NFL Sunday Ticket in my account, but i want to know that if the $50 is a one time payment or monthly?

also if you DONT have the NFL Sunday ticket do you have to pay the $340 plus the $50 to use it on ps3?

  • “Existing DIRECTV customers can access the service on their PS3 for an additional $50 and use the PS3 as an additional receiver for your home”

use ps3 as an additional receiver? so can it offer like all of Directv then?

  • So I’m guessing I’m paying for a dish to?

Sorry but I am happy with my cable, storms don’t effect it (In less power go’s out). That and I don’t care for sports.

  • It would help if there was more info on the PS or DirectTv websites

  • Cool for those who love the NFL, and/or have DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket already. Not something I am likely to get and/or pay for living in Canada.

That being said, I hope the service on the PS3 has an NFL Sunday Ticket application similar to the one found on the NHL GameCenter application. I don’t necessarily want to watch, or pay for the entire NFL Sunday Ticket package, but the ability to review the scores and highlights is something I find myself doing on the NHL application fairly regularly.

  • I am not a DirecTV subscriber, but a Time Warner Bros. Subscriber. I was wondering if I am required to be a DirecTV subscriber in order to be FULLY ACCESSED to this service?

  • Umm…$340? No thanks.

  • I doubt SONY has any control over the DirectTV subscription part but this is really beyond what I am willing to pay just to watch my hometown bears every week.

Giving the consumer options is the best policy and there is no option here. People decry EA for having a monopoly on the NFL license, but if anyone is paying attention the NFL has the same attitude. They are in the money making business and as long as people are dumb enough to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars just to watch a game that is on for 1/3 of a year they will continue to gouge us.

Now, if they had an option for $150 for PS3 streaming only then I would jump on board in a heart beat but as long as I am being forced to choose to pay $400+ for a service that I won’t even use (and don’t forget early termination fees and the costs of setting up the equipment and service fees etc) beyond NFL season then I will pass on this.

  • lol I remember when the NFL pass first came out it was like $100 I’m LMAO at how companies partner to rob the public in these tough economy times even the $50 to add it to the PS3 is highway robbery $340 is enough where you should be able to watch it on the moon if you wanted to

  • + Another Channel for entertainment
+/- All football (if you are into football)
    – 99.99999% chance it’s US only

  • I know PS3 has NHL GameCenter, I have it, but I do not like it. PS3 should have NHL Center Ice, I had many black-outs with GameCenter but when I had Center Ice I never experienced any block-outs. GameCenter only showed the first round of the NHL playoffs the other playoff games were available 48 hours after original air time.

  • Great service! I was so excited when I saw it! Then I saw the price…..wow Sony :(

  • so is that $390 for existing customers??? or just $50?

  • No thanks.

  • I wish I could rate this post lower than a 1.

MLB.TV Premium is $35 a year and that’s far more games to show than an NFL season. How the hell do you justify $340? Ridiculous.

  • Uumh hello! Yes. there is a sport that is called the worlds sport because it managed to bring a war to an End for a few days during the world cup. It’s called football(not this hand-egg thing you call a sport) if at all possible can you consider bringing in foxsoccertv or sky tv or gol tv to your services it would be greatly appreciate.

    Thanks
    K7171

  • Actually, if that 339.95 price is the price for the full year, then it is actually around the same price. DIRECT TV lists their NFL Sunday Ticket as 66.95 per month for the season plan. That comes to 334.75 for the season. So we are basically paying 5 dollars more for it than regular DIRECT TV customers.

  • @70
Its not wow Sony, its wow DirecTv, or wow NFL. Look on DirecTv’s site, that’s just what they charge for the NFL Sunday ticket, it’s got nothing to do with Sony.

  • It’s a great deal if you don’t have DirectTV, first of all Sunday Ticket is exclusive to DirectTV, so no time warner, dishnetwork ect…

    1. You will not need a dish installed

    2. You don’t need a receiver(PS3)

    3. It’s HD

Your cost is the Subscription cost $350.00 + an additional $50.00 for a total of $400.00 dollars. Not bad for what you’re getting.

    But

If you are already a DirectTv subscriber and have Sunday Ticket why would I pay an additional $50.00 bucks to watch it on the PS3.

  • considering that football runs for basically 5 months (september-january), that $339.95 price equates to $68/month. That’s more expensive than directv’s regular packages and you only watch games on one day of the week! Absolutely ridiculous price.

I love the idea of the service sony. Shame on DirIRECTV for setting such an unreasonable price structure.

  • It’s cheaper to go to te local sports bar and get out of the house get food & drinks and in HD than to watch this on Ps3. Good to hear to bad its expensive… pass

  • This is great. I can finally watch my Dolphins games live, instead of later in the week on NFL network, since i don’t have directv nor do I live in Florida.

  • How about you just bring over PlayTV or Torne! I’d love to use my ps3 as a portal to watch all of my TV!

  • Everyone that has a facebook please like this page PSN Updates 2011 it helps me out alot thank you!!

  • @73
    MLB.tv Premium is not $35/year. It’s closer to $120.

And for everyone crying about the price, yes it’s expensive, and is ridiculous, but this is what NFL Sunday Ticket costs. Scream at the NFL for giving DirecTV a monopoly on it.

  • THIS IS THE GREATEST NEWS I’VE READ ALL YEAR!!!!

But let me clarify…is the extra $50 just the added ‘To Go’ package that Directv already sells? Or is this on top of that?

  • I can understand why it costs that much if that’s what the pass costs for a direct tv subscriber.

However, $50 USD to activate your PS3 to use the service is pretty steep….at the very least, PS+ members should get it for free ;)

  • $199 and I’ll pay over $250 is ridiculous that means you could buy a PS3 for yourself every NFL Season, and its not like there isn’t football on TV. Also what is every saying it will only be in the US, this is the US Playstation Blog go back on your own Blog.

  • My wife and I were thinking about ditching cable all together, but the one thing that kept me from pulling the trigger was the fact that I wouldn’t be able to sit on my couch and watch football. $340 is WAY cheaper than six months of my cable bill. I think the price sounds pretty freakin’ good to me. Going to the bar every Sunday would be just as expensive and pretty much unacceptable to my wife and two kids. Sign me up! (BTW, of course I wish it was cheaper…but I also wish I could go buy NFL2K12 right now…)

  • This is an AWESOME deal and you just sold another PS3 to my brother in law. Sunday Ticket on DirectTV is normally $340 anyways. He was considering switching to DTV but didn’t really want to. Now he can have it and keep Comcast. It’s a great deal for people who love football and enjoy watching every game. For those complaining about price, remember that it’s the same price if you have DTV also. DTV is offering a free year of it now, but they require that you sign a 2 year contract and you’re required to buy Sunday Ticket for the second year for the normal price ($340).

Once again, awesome job Sony. Great addition for us football fans.

  • I just ordered service through DirecTV and Sunday ticket comes free if you sign for a 2yr subscription with DirecTV. So all you have to pay is the $50 for the service via PS3.

  • So awesome, but $339.95! Geez! I was hoping 49.95 instead xD

  • I want to watch all of me directv channels through my ps3!

  • It’s great the PS3 gets this! but is it actually free if you have DirecTV? because if it is why in the hell is it over $300 for it on PS3? if it costs around the same price on DirecTV as in does on PS3 and it costs $50 or more to get an additional receiver for this in your home then it’s good on PS3. The price is still ridiculous but that’s DirecTV’s fault not Sony’s. Go let DirecTV know.

    And I agree, NBA TV!!!

  • Cheaper for PS+ members? maybe, and yea to much money but great progress

  • I pay $120 a year for MLB.TV and get 2,300 games. I watch about 145 of them. The NFL (and DirecTV) want me to pay $340 for 238 games, only 13 of which I will actually watch. What the hell is wrong with this country!?! I’d rather have NO FOOTBALL this season, and have the NFL “fixed,” than this farce of a lockout that amounted to no changes other than the fan will pay more.

  • @89 that is a amazing deal getting sunday ticket for free with a 2 year deal and just 50 dollars for receiving on the PS3 hmm very tempting

  • $340?? yeah i think i’ll just look at the highlights on sportscenter.

  • As much as I would love that, I’m not paying $340!

  • All we need is NBA League Pass and I’ll be set.

  • I know some people are complaining about the cost but I am excited about this offer. I was recently looking at signing up for DirecTV just to get the NFL ticket. It was going to cost me something around $2,000 for a 2yr contract (for TV service and the NFL Ticket). This is perfect for me because all I really want is the NFL Ticket. This works out to $21 a game which is perfect for me. This will be cheaper and more convenient than having to go to a sports bar. Plus I can invite other fans over to watch the game. Thank you for offering this and I will be signing up as soon as it is available. I’ll even watch pre-season games on this if they are offered. Thank you Sony and thank you DirecTV – you can gladly have my $340 for this awesome service.

  • Most anti climatic article ever! the headline had me excitied and the price just killed it. For those with Plus that want a discount how much of a discount would you want to get it? even if it was 50% off it still be pretty steep
