Kickoff the NFL Season on PS3 with the NFL SUNDAY TICKET App, Available Today on PlayStation Network

We recently announced our partnership with DIRECTV to bring their most popular sports subscription service, NFL SUNDAY TICKET, directly to you via your PlayStation 3. Starting later today, you can access the direct link in the My Channels category under the TV/Video Services icon on the XMB (XrossMediaBar) or head over to the media category of the PlayStation Store to download the app in anticipation of the new 2011 NFL season.

This Sunday, PS3 owners without access to DIRECTV will be able to live stream every out-of-market Sunday NFL game on their PS3 with a subscription to NFL SUNDAY TICKET. You’ll be able to enhance your NFL experience with live multi-game scoreboards and field position trackers, which also allow you to access highlights, stats, standings and schedules, as well as the Red Zone Channel, which gives you live coverage of Sunday’s most exciting moments. The subscription for the 2011 season can be purchased directly through the app for $339.95. Existing subscribers can use the PS3 as an additional receiver in their home, as part of their NFL SUNDAY TICKET To-Go package, which is purchased through DIRECTV.

  • Got my refund…once I logged in and got a message..goes straight to the wallet..using if for next payment.

    Nice going Sony…

  • My brother-in-law called on 9/11, like I did, and not only got the $23.99 credit, but additionally got the ~$85 for the month as well!
WTF??? Sony apparently isn’t treating everyone equally.

  • If I’ve subscribed to Sunday Ticket on my PS3 can I then get Sunday Ticket To Go on my computer or bberry or other mobile device? If so how. Thanks.

  • JPR56, from my understanding you can’t

  • Many thanks. Quite a bit simpler last year when I could subscribe on my computer since my apartment building does not permit a dish.

  • Everything working ok so far hope that continues

  • OK, subscribe, watching the Bears-Saints game. It’s working so far but the picture is odd – it looks more like recorded film than live video.

  • Oh man – quality just switched to really bad. On a high end 54″ plasma. Direct ethernet connection, just tested, 14 Mbps speed (out of 15 Mbps that I’m paying for, so good there.) But the picture just got REALLY low res.

  • Anyone else getting a “Error: Count not connect to server.” message today 9/18? Trying to watch Redskins/Arizona game.

  • Chicago game still in very low res right now. As in, field is flickering, lots of artifacts, etc.

  • Interestingly, the slow motion replay looked OK. Its as if the game itself is being VERY compressed.

  • Sony refunded my order to my bank account yesterday. Thanks sony.

  • The Chicago game is definitely a low res feed.

  • Now getting pausing

  • “The Chicago game is definitely a low res feed.”

Yep. For almost $400. Looks like YouTube, like something you’d get if you were looking online for illegal feeds.

  • Tried to take a quick look at the Tennessee game and got “Video not available at this time.”

  • So, broke down and got the ticket this morning. Waited it out last week and passed with the FUBAR situation going on…actually looks like that was a bad move since I’m paying the full amount, likely without the $25 credit.

Anyways, I have to say, I’ve been very happy so far with the system. I’ve flipped through about 4-5 games (Bears-Saints, Panthers-Packers, Jets-Jaguars, and one or two others), and the picture quality has been pretty good. Better than standard def for sure. At least DVD/480P, and maybe approaching 720P. And this includes the Bears game.

Actually, here in Hawaii the local “1pm” game is the Jaguars-Jets game, but luckily (if this trend continues all season), I can also get the game on the Ticket too, and while the Time Warner HD is a noticeably brighter and crisper on direct comparision, the PS3 Sunday Ticket feed is better than the SD feed from Time Warner.

  • There is anywhere from a 8-15 second delay between game changes, which feels a tad long. There is a freeze for 2-3 seconds every once in a while (I’ve noticed it 2-3 times in the past hour), as well as rare occurrences of the pic quality degrading for 2-3 seconds.

But, like i said, overall, I’ve been really happy. Particularly getting to watch Cam Newton play his ass off (who knew?) and enjoying the RedZone channel (vs being stuck watching the Jets crush the Jaguars).

Hopefully Sony/Direct TV wont rest on their laurels, and get the PQ a tad better and maybe reduce the delay in game changes a little.

  • Well, then either I’m getting a worse feed than you are of the Bears game or your watching on a smaller TV or I don’t know what. I’m getting flickering, artifacts, fuzziness in and out (I couldn’t read the punter’s name on the back of his jersey from the camera behind him at one point.) It will be OK for a minute or two, then it gets poor. Again, as if the compression is extremely bad.

  • I agree with you Slow_Hand and I’m watching the game on a relatively small TV set. I figured I would give it a try on a smaller TV before moving it to a larger one. The Bears game looks like something you would find on Youtube at best. I also just signed up this week thinking that all of the bugs from last week had been worked out. I’m definitely not satisfied considering the steep price.

  • So far so good I’m been enjoying sunday ticket switching back to a lot of games.Green Bay vs Carolina, Saints vs Bears and Arizona vs Washington are main ones I’m watching. RedZone channel is great much better experience from last week keep up the good work

  • I just switched over to the Green Bay game to see if it was just the Bears game, and my non-techie wife said “What is WRONG with the TV???” It was so bad it was truly unwatchable.

  • This is bad enough I will be trying to get a refund and cancelling. Which really sucks, because I’d really like to follow my Bears. But this is pretty unwatchable.

  • We are apparently getting the same feed as the ToGo people (web) – they are also complaining like crazy on the DirectTV forums about how poor and pixelated the video quality is.

No way they should be charging $350 for this piece of crap. My wife just said “Did you tell them that I even complained and I never notice stuff like this?”

  • I’m asking for a refund as well. For the price the product just isn’t worth it. Its advertised as an HD feed and although I wasn’t expecting that I do expect something watchable.

  • This service is utter CRAP I cant even watch the RZC it keeps stopping, and its no way in HD. Sony you should be ashamed of chraging this amount of money for a service that is garbage. I wish this was for the 360 I never ever had streaming probs. like this. Thanks again sony for another horrible sunday of crap.

  • WOW just WOW, now the second game CIn and Den the game is paused but the commentary is still going what a joke FU SONY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Next itme I will just give my wife the Credit card at least she can waste my money in a better way.

  • I didn’t encounter a single problem today. Everything worked perfectly, and the picture on every game was beautiful. I was able to change between games and didn’t lose a thing. Took about 8-10 seconds, which is hardly a cause for concern. It was MILES above the disaster of last week, when there was nothing to see on the screen. For those of you who had trouble, were you running on wireless? I suggest plugging in and trying again if you were, because there is a such a huge amount of data that it is bound to lose something in the wireless signal.

  • Running on a wired connection, 14.5 Mbps measured. The people on the DirectTV forum are angry also, apparently they had the same feed for the To Go service.

  • Same here treid wired almost had 20.mps and not wired I was getting like slow_hand 14.5. I finally had to turn it off it was just horrid I will def be calling for a refund I already turned off the auto charge in the play station account setting. This was one big WASTE of money I would not recomend this to ANYONE. BEWARE!!!!

  • The other sad thing it was no where near LIVE i had cbs buf vs oak (bonus coverage) and there was 21 sec on Direct tv and on cbs the game was over already. cable $75.00 a month and NFL ticket $84.00 now thats is just sad! Not to mention the game on cbs was so clear and the one on Direct was so bad you could not even read the players names on a close up. Like I said before BEWARE DO NOT WASTE you hard earned money for this CRAP!!!!!!

  • No, not live. they clearly are recording it, compressing the crap out of it, then sending it in much lower resolution.

  • Waited, and picked up the Ticket last night. Games streamed really well. Watched the early games on my 22″ 1080p and the resolution was very clear. Switched over to my 65 inch DLP for the 4:15 games and while the picture was not as good, it was still a very good picture. The Bengals vs Broncos game streamed relatively well.

If I can continue to get this level of service from the app, I will be very happy with the purchase. It’s nice to be able watch games from the comfort of the couch instead of some smokey bar.

  • I watched Football all day today. Other than the dolphins getting whipped (which ruined my day) I have no complaints. The stream was not quite HD but considering it’s comming from the Internet it’s not bad.

  • I can’t quite figure out how those few saying it was good quality are saying that, unless they got a special feed. I’ve been looking at forums all over the web, including DirectTV’s own support forum, and there has been overwhelming evidence of how poor the feed was, including photos, at the same time people are showing their pings and D/L speeds (many in the 20+ MBps range – mine ws 14.5 measured.) One guy has a FIOS feed of 50 MBps, extremely low ping, and he was showing photos of his screen with an incredibly poor resolution picture. There have also been reports on news sites of how it was better this week – less pausing, you could actually get the games – but how it was still a very poor picture quality. I’ve asked for a refund, as the quality was not what was stated. I used to subscribe to the Season Ticket when I had DirectTV as my satellite provider, and almost switched back to them from Dish when I recently moved, just to get NFL Sunday Ticket (but I stayed with Dish as their overall prices and HD offerings are better.) So I was really fired up at the thought of getting this, even at this price. But when the picture quality is so bad my wife won’t even watch it, no sale.

  • Well, DirectTV’s support threads on the PS3 Sunday Ticket and Sunday Ticket To Go, which were filled with reports, some with quite detailed information on the problems, customer internet setups, etc. have all been deleted. I can only assume they didn’t want new potential subscribers from seeing the problems. Nice customer service.

  • I would like to see more features in the App. I expect that with such a high price tag development and new features will be coming:

    1) Sony PS3 BD remote does not work for its rewind / play / fast forward buttons – would hope the app would map these buttons so they work. Have to use the L2 / R2 or X buttons on the remote for it to work, and at that point it is easier to use a controller

    2) DVR feature only allows one to rewind back approx. 1 or 1.5 hr worth of video, not to the beginning of the game, or the beginning of when you began watching (if longer than 1 or 1.5 hrs. Even with over 300GB of free disk space on my console

    3) Highlights for the games are not complete! For example the Redskins / Cardinals game in Week 2 did not have the last 2 scoring plays (a TD and a FG) from the Redskins – no way to find out how they came from behind to win the game!

    4) Highlights are not available except during a few hours? Not available all week? WTF? This is not what I read the service description to be before I signed up. Perhaps I mis-read it, regardless, this is incomplete, IMO

    5) Should be able to watch the entire game on demand the entire week, then the next week start with the next week’s games

    C’Mon Man!

  • i agree, this is way to high of a cost to pay, most people only watch one team any ways and if it aint on tv that week i just go to the bar and watch it.

  • Well, Sony would not agree to refund and cancel. I went back and forth with customer service and said I’d be happy to pay if the product was delivered in a watchable form, but even my “Who cares if TV is SD or HD” wife said it was unwatchable. Not just “not good picture” – unwatchable. They said, sorry, you signed up, so you have to pay anyway. Really, Sony? You want to take my money for something you have not yet delivered to me, and for which the one day you did deliver it it was dysfunctional? But you want to force me to pay for it anyway? That’s how you want to treat customers?

  • I’ll give this a shot for one more week but hearing that folks aren’t getting a refund is quite disturbing. I just signed up last week so this is only my 2nd week of service. I have been disappointed with the service so far but am keeping my fingers crossed.

  • I thought we would have the ability to tile the games (i.e. tile up to 10 games at once), but I don’t see how to do that??? Does anyone know?

  • In the spirit of fairness, even though I am really irritated that they refuse to provide a refund (it costs them nothing to stop sending you the service,) the picture quality today, so far, appears to be much better than last week. No changes on my end, d/l and u/l speeds are the same, etc.

  • And in the spirit of “if it ain’t broke don’t be a-tryin’ to fix it”, my service is now working perfectly, I am even getting no-jitter/buffer/stutter 1080p picture finally. But I want that ability to show 10 games at once live like I was told we would have a long time ago (it is channel 702 for regular Sunday Ticket subs I think)…

  • Well, mine still isn’t the quality of what I get when I flip over to the network HD feed on my Dish satellite, but it was very watchable.

  • @ slow hand

Directv is not foolish enough to make the PS3 feeds as good as their Sat. sub. service then no one would order from their Satellite services…

Again,I recommend everyone who uses this service to be hard wired by lan direct or powerline homeplugs…No matter how good your internet service is, wifi is a pain in the neck when streaming LIVE data.

Wifi is good on stuff already encoded like movies but for live sports please get hardwired….

  • My set up is hard wired to the router.

  • Yep, that is very true about wi-fi streaming, which is why I have an ethernet expander to hardwire just about everything (except my Kodak printers, those I use wi-fi for as wireless printing has never caused me any problems). Oh yeah, and my 4th gen Ipod Touch and Blackberry phone are wi-fi connected too, not that it really matters.

  • Will we get to see the games played on Saturday Dec. 24th? Most games will be that day with only one on Sunday asa far as I can tell
