The Drop: Week of September 12th 2011 New Releases

Kratos returns this week when his classic PSP adventures Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta, receive the HD and stereoscopic 3D treatment with God of War: Origins on PS3 and PSN. If you missed out on Bulletstorm earlier this year (shame on you), here’s your chance to “kill with skill,” and download it on PSN.

PSone Classics and PSone Japan Imports both offer PlayStation nostalgia in the same week. Stretch out your trigger finger and enjoy The Drop.

PlayStation 3

God of War: Origins (Also on PSN) — This double-pack of carnage contains both origin chapters in the God of War franchise — God of War: Chains of Olympus & God of War: Ghost of Sparta. Both games are remade with high-definition graphics displayable on 3D HDTVs.

CHAINS OF OLYMPUS: As many who know the tales of the God of War know, Kratos, after being deceived into killing his wife and daughter, denounced his service to Ares. In order to seek absolution from his past sins, the Ghost of Sparta pledged himself as a champion to the Gods for the years to follow – these brutal crusades, in the name of Olympus, became legendary throughout the ancient world … Experience Kratos’ journey during the 10 years of servitude to the Gods of Olympus. In God of War: Chains of Olympus, Kratos will venture to lands that no mortal has ever walked upon.

GHOST OF SPARTA: Set in the realm of Greek mythology, God of War: Ghost of Sparta is a single-player game that allows players to take on the powerful role of Spartan warrior Kratos. This new adventure picks up after the first God of War concludes, telling the story of Kratos’ ascension to power as the God of War. In his quest to rid himself of the nightmares that haunt him, Kratos must embark on a journey that will reveal the origins of lost worlds, and finally answer long-awaited questions about his dark past. Armed with the deadly chained Blades of Chaos, he will have to overcome armies of mythological monsters, legions of undead soldiers, and amazingly dangerous and brutal landscapes throughout his merciless quest.

BulletstormBulletstorm brings new furor to first-person shooter action thanks to its signature ‘kill with skill’ gameplay. The game tells the story of a futuristic confederation protected by an elite band of mercenaries: Dead Echo. When Dead Echo members Grayson Hunt and Ishi Sato learn they’ve been working for the wrong side, they’re betrayed by their commander and exiled to the far reaches of the galaxy. In Bulletstorm, Grayson and Ishi find themselves surrounded by hordes of mutants and flesh eating gangs in an abandoned paradise. They have two objectives: get off the planet alive, and exact revenge on the man who sent them there.

Players step into the role of Grayson Hunt complete with an arsenal of over-the-top combat moves and outrageously large guns. Bulletstorm’s array of distinct ‘skillshots’ produces unprecedented levels of frantic gameplay and yell-inducing satisfaction. The skillshot system rewards players for inciting mayhem in the most creative way possible. The more insane the skillshot, the more points players collects to upgrade their character and unlock weapons, which then allows them to execute even more creative moves and exaggerated skillshots.

From DustCreated by famed French videogame designer Eric Chahi, this mysterious game tells of a world in terrible disorder, one that only you can set right again. Commanding the world around you as a child in a sandbox, players will help their people resist, expand and migrate so they can accomplish their quest to find a safe place in a land ravaged by the violent and catastrophic ways of Nature.

Gameplay in this innovative game is based on advanced technology that allows the entire world to act dynamically. The ground, water, and vegetation are all yours to interact with — breach a lake open, dig open a crater, set loose a lava flow … your powers are great, but how you choose to use them will determine the fate of this society.

Ferrari: The Race ExperienceThe official Ferrari licensed videogame experience, Ferrari: The Race Experience features the world’s most desired sports cars, including the Ferrari 458 Italia and Ferrari 599XX. Choose from an impressive stable of 34 Ferrari motors and race across 17 racetracks, including the street circuit Riviera and the ultra cool Fiorano test track. Players get their choice of GT Road Cars, GT Race Cars or Classic Cars. An all-new Assisted mode allows gamers of all skill levels to enjoy a Ferrari.

Elemental Monster: Online Card Game — Emerald Monster is a battle game where you the player make use of cards to summon beasts. Create your own deck of cards, then select three cards and place them on the battle field. You then select a monster to summon from one of these three cards. Each monster can be made to perform one of two attacks, or if you feel a slight imbalance against your opponent, you can recall your creature and send out another in its place. This PS3 entry in the franchise features over 10 hours of play in Single Player mode and online battles (with a pay-per-play system) for networked multiplayer bouts.

Renegade Ops (Demo Available) — Renegade Ops puts players in a mobile commando unit sent behind enemy lines to defeat Inferno, a madman intent on global domination. Defeat enemies across a range of stunning environments using a wide variety of vehicles, from dispersing electromagnetic shock waves to the deployment of a huge Gatling gun armed to the teeth.

PSone Japan Imports

Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness — Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness is a fighting game produced by Capcom in 1994 where the pilots of mecha battle each other. The game is a sequel to the scrolling fighter Armored Warriors. The game only had minimal distribution in arcades outside Japan, and none of the console ports were released overseas. Tech Romancer (ported to the Sega Dreamcast) is considered a spiritual sequel for this game; Jin and his BX-02 Blodia are present in it as an unlockable bonus character/mech.

PSone Classic

Pong — Pong on the PlayStation takes that original idea, adds a super clean and smooth 3D and physics engine, and hammers out dozens of new ideas only a 3D game could possibly do.

I’m with the last guy…… Gimme some old FF games. How about the Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions on out PS3 console?!

    Come on Sony….

  • Bulletstorm had one reason to buy — Gears of War 3 Beta Access !

I sold mine shortly after the Beta ended.

There is NO Co-Op Campaign, no Co-Op “Reflections” or whatever the extra Campaign Mode is.. and the MP needs fixed badly!

Bulletstorm could have been awesome but, IT’S NOT!! =)

  • No, PlayStation Portable titles? Pong for a PlayStation title release onto PSN?! What a lame arse week. Seriously lame and dull. Nothing worth “mentioning” or even speaking of that is releasing either. Well, atleast we get a PlayStation title and Pong is better then anything coming out this week.

  • Needs more cow bell…

  • Not a bad week Sony. I want to say thanks for getting back on track with PSOne Classics and Japan imports. There are still so many titles people are waiting for. On the import side, PLEASE work with Konami to bring us Gradius Gaiden. On the US side, PLEASE work with Konami to bring us Suikoden 2. I know a lot of people want to see the PSOne Final Fantasy collections as well. (Origins, Chronicles, Anthology). That would be great too. The emulation on the PS3 has issues when I play my FFIV disc. Hopefully that can be fixed in a digital version. It would be nice to see Wipeout XL, Rage Racer, Dragon Warrior VII… Maybe we can get BOF III now that IV is out.

Looking forward to the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus re-release as well… Resistance 3 is one I’m going to pickup too.

  • How much does the God of War Origins on PSN cost?

  • + BIELERIC on September 12th, 2011 at 2:40 am said:

From DUST, 14/09 at EUROPE PSN, 27/09 at USA PSN

Wrong. From Dust was pushed up to the 13th for USA release.

    Read it.

  • Wanted PsOne Classics, Ehrgiez, Einhander, Fear Effect, Brave Fencer Musashi. A start on these would be great. Maybe it’s just me but I would freakin love some Fear Effect most.

  • White Knight Chronicles II I must purchase. I like having two games on one disc. I guess the same could be said for the God of War collection. The non-Jaffe games are the best in the series.

  • So GOW Origins will be available on the store Day One? That’s amazing.

I really want to be able to buy more titles day one digitally, I have no space for physical games anymore and most of my 500GB HD in my slim is free. Awesome!

Also, Renegade Ops having a demo is amazing as well. We need it to be a standard on PSN to have demos on day one, desperately.

  • White Knight Chronicles 2 sounds awesome! Hopefully the review will be better than the first.

  • God of War!!!

  • You know I check the PS site every Monday and Tuesday and it seems that all I see are people complaining about when certain games are going to drop or whats the price for them. Plus some people talk real rude to ray because they don’t get what they want. Dude it’s just a game! You will get the info and price when Sony gives it to you stop whinning! I know there are alot of games other countries have that we don’t if you want those games so badly go get the original system for it and buy them or get an account in that country. Let the drama go. most of you are grown men crying like six year olds. You are worst then WoW players………..Well maybe not as much, but just as bad. If ray doesn’t answer your question it’s probably because he answered it in another post weeks ago. serioulsy get off the gas and enjoy the games you have. P.S. Ray I love the post your doing bro. Keep it up.

  • Anyone know when we’re getting Castlevania and Rock of Ages?

  • That’s great Fifa 12 demo and pro evolution socccer 12, but will there be a batman arkham city demo?

  • …………… Pong ???? FFV FFVI Chrono Trigger have been rated for months now, and we get PONG???

  • Another week without Harmony of Despair.
Oh well. At least WKC2 comes out this week.

  • @Rey,

OK so you finally included From Dust (as I pointed out to you in Comment #2), but you still haven’t included Demo Available. Come on!!

In the very article I posted on Comment #110, on THIS VERY website, Alex Monney from Ubisoft replies that there WILL be a demo.

So is this MORE Ubisoft BS lies, or does your research not even go as far as clicking to a page on your own site?

Phoning it in again, man….Step aside. I’ll take it from here. SRSLY Where’s the job application?

  • FIFA 12 DEMO, YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH. ……oh ya, Pro Evo Soccer 12.

  • Whoo! Ace combat assult horizon!

  • The only game I’m really looking forward to is WKC2. Played and enjoyed the first one and can’t wait to play the second, but I probably wont get it at launch (have too many RPGs in the backlog). But will definitely get it down the road! Hopefully D3 gets to publish the PSP Dogma Wars title as well. Really sad that SCEA dropped the ball with this franchise even though SCEJ and SCEE both support it well. Level-5 is really showing their strides these past few years and it’s a shame North America get’s shafted just cause it’s a JRPG :(

  • Can Dan from Amrich post the rezzurection update with the times and other stuff this week

  • Can Dan from Amrich post the rezzurection update with the times and other stuff this week please

  • What time will the PlayStation Store update happen?

I really want to try out the new FIFA.

  • Sweet Fifa 12. ill have to try pes 2012 too.

  • I woud buy God of War Origins on day one since I havn’t played those God of War titles but $40 is too much for HD Collections so I’m going to wait until there’s a good sale.

Also, Santa Monica should support God of War 3, the levels that got scrapped from all the God of War games should be released, it would be great and a lot of consumers have wanted them. Just don’t be greedy with price LOL, and if they can or should be free release it free wether via patch or download from the Store.

  • @DEMOCRAC-Y Yeah I hate how they keep shoving GOW down our throats. I for one don’t care for the game at all; besides I know my girlfriend would love the Kingdom Hearts Remastered in HD.

  • I want these for the PSN –
A remake of Super Mario 64 for the PS3.
Gears of War 4 before Xbox gets it.
I want all the Final Fantasies 7-9 + tactics rereleased in full 3D with sharpshooter support!!!
A wrestling game involving Cabela, Rapala, Method Man, and Ron Paul, with super realistic physics!
I want the prices for all the games mentioned, with there combined value, and the values listed with tax, also the prices of each game with a side order of fries.
I want games that are coming out on the 27th released last week, and games for this week 75% off!
I demand that the background of the PSN Store be very artsy and have deep symbolic meaning.
I require free donuts be sent to my house for every purchase I make that is over $25.
If these demands are not met I will complain on these forms and discuss my disappointment with such things not happening! I say stuff and stuff happens…got it? Good!

Oh and I want the full collection of Little House on the Prairie in 1080p HD release for $79.99 or some price close to that! Make it so!!!

  • I demand you ignore my spelling and grammar errors!

    DO IT!

  • Renegade Ops and GoW origins…this is gonna be a good week!

  • Hey….where’s Rock of Ages? :(

  • From dust is my pick. I’ll eventually get it, very soon. It seems original, although flawed, but right up my alley.

  • Why are there no reviews for Renegade Ops? I was excited about this game, but I have to say, the PSN PLAY promotion seems to be a complete flop. When XBLA has their ‘summer of arcade’ all the popular blogs are all over it ( Joystiq, Kotaku) reviews and hype for Bastion were everywhere. Meanwhile… PLAY barely gets any ink. Not to mention that none of he PLAY offerings are exclusives. C’mon PSN… step up your game! I’m sick of watching my favorite platform become less and less relevant.

  • I am completely addicted to Plants vs. Zombies. Along side Critter Crunch, it’s probably my favorite PS Plus drop! Nice!

  • Sweet, can’t wait for Renegade Ops today. Only game I bought from the PLAY promotion.

  • forget all the Mini’s we are eagerly awaiting the release of GRAND THEFT AUTO: SAN ANDREAS HD FOR PS3

  • …renegade ops disappeared from PSN store a couple days ago even though most information states it has been available since Sept 12th, wtf?

  • bulletstorm, 39,99$ and from dust, 11,99$ psn+

  • from dust normal at 14,99$

  • renegade ops, 2,5gbs and from dust 0,9gb

  • @ 83 KoRnX18: Relax. I was just telling you what I read. The release date now says September 2011 on IGN, it was probably the 30th as they didn’t have an exact date, but it should be September, perhaps the last tuesday as IGN is usually pretty reliable. Even an announcement by Sony could be changed at the last minute but this gives us some hope for C:HoD!
