Gravity Rush for PS Vita: Everything You Need to Know

Greetings! As you’ve seen lately, we’ve released some additional information here and there on Gravity Rush and I wanted to give you all a bit more info on this PS Vita exclusive.

First off, if you haven’t already, meet Kat:

Gravity Rush for PS Vita

You’ll be assuming the role of our cel-shaded heroine, who wakes in a strange city with no memory of how she got there. While exploring the town, she encounters a black cat (clever, huh?), who grants her the ability to control the gravity around her.

From there, the story unfolds across multiple chapters as Kat uses her newfound powers to not only help a city that’s (literally) breaking apart, but to figure out the mystery of her past and what (or who) has brought her here. Using the PS Vita, you’ll be able to release Kat from gravity’s hold and shift her center of gravity to completely change her perspective and gain access to previously unseen areas of the stages you play in. Whether “falling” towards the side of a tower or virtually any visible surface, Kat can be brought back to a floating state with a simple trigger pull, or be forced back to following the laws of real-world gravity by deactivating her skill, dropping her down to the ground without a scratch. I think you can see how this will give a whole new meaning to the term “world exploration.”

Aside from her name and her look that definitely shows she’s not from around these parts, there isn’t much she knows. What she does know, however, is how to fight.

And fight she will. Little is known about the entities that show up as she explores this new world, but they definitely have something to do with everything that’s going on. Combat is going to occur differently as gravity now plays a pretty important part in how you approach enemies. While she can punch, Kat is far more adept at kicking. She can amplify these attacks by implementing get gravity-based skill to target enemies before allowing gravity to take over and deliver a stronger attack. We have to admit, there’s something about being able to use gravity to plant Kat’s feet into a enemies’ face. As you go through the game you will gain more combat abilities. Some of them are going to add to your basic stock combo, mostly kick-driven. Because, well, Kat’s a kicker.

You really can’t understand how beautiful it is until you see if on the PS Vita’s OLED screen for yourself and we can’t wait ’till you do.

Don’t cry, Kat! If you keep an eye out here, you’ll find out more information in the coming weeks.

  • Sounds like a pretty cool game can’t wait to buy the Vita so I can see for myself, its nice to see a new game with originality.

  • This game looks totally amazing. I can’t wait to buy it. I hope it’s early off in PSVita’s launch, but not rushed either.

  • I was about to say “Not another gravity based game,” but this actually looks pretty damn cool – intriguing story, nice art direction, more immersive graphics than similar indie games and super mario galaxy, and it sounds like combat will be pretty fly too. May be a reason for me to get into handheld gaming.

  • Sounds like a real adventure game. Haven’t seen that in a while. I hope it’s great. Shame it’s on the wrong system.

  • @54

And which system would you rather it be, maybe one or two that I refuse to admit exist? Come on with the control functions in this game I say that it is on the perfect system, other wise it would be just an other so-so game with no originality. So I say it is on the perfect system and I dare any one to prove me wrong.

  • And when I say another so-so game I mean standard issue. Which means just regular controls (unless they decided to go with the move controller which could of been cool imagine controlling her flying with the move as if you are holding onto her or as if you are inside of her pulling the strings) and in my opinion with a game like this there is just to many possibilities that could of made this game cool (as it is on the Vita) which I feel would be stifled on any other system. So it is on the right system and it is worth getting. Though I still say PlayStation move would of been cool as well.

  • making great games is sonys job and this one proves that its a job well done.cant wait to see more on the game

  • So can’t wait for this game to release!

  • I like how the PSP Vita’s lineup is looking really really strong. You’ve got some great established franchises making the leap as well as fresh IPs. I’ll definitely be looking forward to more info on Gravity Rush.

  • Any plans for a ps3 version? seems pretty cool.

  • Why do I read some people saying this will be a PSN title? They had the box and game card on display at their booth. Also Sony, don’t think I did not notice those Vita’s in the case that were painted different colors…I want them, don’t make me beg.

  • Gravity Daze actually sold me on Vita. Uncharted GA still wasn’t enough to convince me but this game truly is a game changer in portable gaming. As it will be released by March 2012 I assume it will be a western launch title *nudge*. If GD releases as a launch title on our shores alongside U:GA, then PSV is a definite d1p for me.

    Can’t wait for new information.

  • I wounder if there are a few dozen skills you can learn if their are then that would be great and would get this as soon as possible.

  • I so can’t wait for this game. I really hope its a launch title since it is going to be my first Ps vita game.
