The Drop: Week of November 7th 2011 New Releases

Two of the biggest award-winning franchises return to the PS3 this week with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Quantic Dream’s cinematic thriller Heavy Rain receives a Director’s Cut loaded with DLC, the complete soundtrack, and bonus making-of features (my favorite!). Fans of Metal Gear Solid can look forward to playing MGS2: Sons of Liberty, MGS3: Snake Eater and MGS: Peace Walker with the Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection on Blu-ray.

Io the digital storefront, digital versions of EA’s Fight Night Champion and Dead Space 2 arrive on PSN ready to download this Tuesday. Also on PSN, classics return this week with Chrono Cross for PSone and two new PS2 classics. The PS3 brings yet another fantastic week of blockbusters on this week’s The Drop.

PlayStation 3

Heavy Rain: Director’s Cut (PlayStation Move Support) Heavy Rain is a cinematic and evolving thriller from Quantic Dream, the developer behind the critically acclaimed Fahrenheit (released as Indigo Prophecy in the US). Dealing with a range of adult themes, the game revolves around a sophisticated plot and strong narrative threads that explore a complex moral proposition. You assume the role of multiple characters, with very different backgrounds, motivations and skills, in a world shaped by Bending Storylines – a dynamic narrative design where your actions and decisions will shape your story. The Director’s Cut includes the original game, Heavy Rain Chronicles: Episode 1 – The Taxidermist DLC, a series of eight “making of” bonus videos, the game’s soundtrack, three dynamic themes and more.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 — War comes home in the explosive third chapter of the blockbuster first-person action series set in near-future combat scenarios.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim — The Empire of Tamriel is on the edge. The High King of Skyrim has been murdered. Alliances form as claims to the throne are made. In the midst of this conflict, a far more dangerous, ancient evil is awakened. Dragons, long lost to the passages of the Elder Scrolls, have returned to Tamriel. The future of Skyrim, even the Empire itself, hangs in the balance as they wait for the prophesized Dragonborn to come; a hero born with the power of The Voice, and the only one who can stand amongst the dragons.

Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection Accept the mission and play three great chapters in the Metal Gear franchise with the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. Included are Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. All three games are rendered in high-definition for the first time!

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 (Also on PSP) — LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 builds upon the magical gameplay, lessons and potion-making skills learned in LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 to equip gamers with the tools necessary to challenge a host of new foes and some familiar ones. The game is action-packed from start to finish, including loads of new lessons, spells, and bonus content for hours of family friendly gaming.

Happy Feet Two: The Videogame — Happy Feet Two is a 3D musical adventure game for the entire family inspired by the whimsical Antarctic world of the animated film. In the game, new dangers are threatening the penguin nation, and it’s going to take everyone working — and dancing — together to save them from extinction. Players use dance moves to recruit penguins with unique abilities that help advance the adventure, stun opponents and enemies, as well as manipulate the environment around them to solve co-operative puzzles.

PlayStation Network

Fight Night Champion — Step into the ring for this 2011 entry in the knockout king boxing franchise. Fight Night Champion sets out to define a new standard in sports videogames by delivering the most dynamic simulation fighting experience to date, pushing visual boundaries and redefining the single player journey for the category.

Dead Space 2 — In Dead Space 2, Isaac brings the terror to space. Players will take on bigger, scarier and more epic battles that will keep them on the edge of their seats. Delivering a sensory overload of sound, visuals and action sequences, Dead Space 2 will bring the psychological thrills of deep space to a terrifying new level.

Monopoly Streets — Monopoly Streets has everything you love about the board game, presented as a street level tour of Mr. Monopoly’s fully animated world. Players can experience Monopoly, one of the world’s favorite family game brands, as a fully dynamic, living, 3D world that continuously evolves with the videogame action.

PSone Classics

CHRONO CROSS The sequel to CHRONO TRIGGER, is one of the most ambitious role-playing games ever made. There are over 40 playable characters, each with their back-story, special moves, abilities, and weapons. The story spans two discs and follows the story of Serge, a young man who is able to cross dimensions. Suddenly he is pulled between worlds, trying to figure out his own past at the same time. The graphics are bright and beautiful, utilizing the PlayStation’s capabilities to the fullest. The polygonal character models are huge and detailed, and the pre-rendered backgrounds are immaculately detailed. The music is composed and arranged by Yasunori Mitsuda, and features very realistic-sounding synthesizers.

PS2 Classics

Full Spectrum Warrior — Full Spectrum Warrior is based on a real-time squad-based strategy game commissioned by the U.S. Army to train light Infantry troops in urban combat situations. Soldiers are placed in a tense, hostile, and claustrophobic environment where they must complete a variety of military objectives. Players act as the Squad Leader, providing direction to Alpha and Bravo fire teams. The successful Squad Leader effectively uses cover in the environment and moves his fire teams in a coordinated fashion so they can protect themselves from possible attacks that could come from any direction. Full Spectrum Warrior puts you in the dirt with your men, where danger lurks around every corner.

Stuntman Ignition — Developed by Paradigm Studios and published by THQ, Stuntman Ignition puts you in the driver’s seat as you create spectacular Hollywood moments such as monstrous jumps, fantastic explosions and large-scale crashes. In this second entry entry into the popular series, you’ll live the life of a famous Hollywood stuntman, building your career from the ground up and taking death defying stunts to a whole new level.

PlayStation Portable

Cars 2: The Video Game — Jump into the Cars 2 universe with some of your favorite Cars personalities such as Mater, Lightning McQueen, Holley Shiftwell, and even Finn McMissile in exotic locations around the globe.

  • Nice Drop lots of good games I am looking forward to Tuesday to see what else there is to come

  • Isn’t Stuntman: Ignition already a PS3 game?

  • SNAAAAAAAKE!!!!

    that is all.

  • I think we have a new contender for crappiest week yet will be the worst of this month at the very least. Only decent disc game is MGS. The rest are all trash and download wise you’ve got DS2 which is decent but better on disc and Chrono Cross which I cannot comment on. So Sony I wanted to say good job your falling to the level of the Wii I knew you could do it.

  • Good lord. Picking up Skyrim, MGSHDC, MW3 and Lego HP. Debated Chrono Cross but I felt I wasted 40$ on it back in 1999…why waste 10 more now? It wasn’t that good.

  • YAY CHRONO CROSS!!!!!!!! finally!! so happy!!!

  • Destroying Uncharted 3 on crushing, gameflying Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and then midnight launching Skyrim, and probably never playing anything but Skyrim ever again.

    Boooooooooooosh

  • Dead Space needs some themes and avatars. Please make it happen.

  • Wow pretty lame drop, but it’s ok because you guys had me at Skyrim….you had me at Skyrim.

  • Sweeeeeeeet Dead Space 2!!!! Modern Warfare and Skyrim preordered already. I am happy as a kid is candy store. Oh and lets not forget Metal Gear Solid HD. OMG!!!!!!!!!! Freakin sweet Drop!!!!!!

  • @DragonWolf – Are you on crack? This is one of the best retail weeks you will see all year. Be a bitter hater about Call of Duty, but the games are good. I get that it is cool to hate what is popular, but you are denying yourself a good experience with it. Skyrim is amazing. Out of the list you only mentioned Metal Gear as being good. I am excited for it but I know what it is. It is a game that any real Playstation fan could go play right now on their PS2/PSP. I’ve played through it a ton of times, once more for trophies won’t be as special as my Skyrim playthrough.

  • @DragonWolf well someone is a hater there is skyrim and mw3 are you that much of a hater that THIS week is crappy because your gonna be really dissapointed later in life

  • Also I don’t want to discourage anyone from buying digital copies of full retail games…but how much will DS2 cost? I mean I’ve seen retail copies at 25-30…and correct me if I am wrong but doesn’t the PS3 version come with Dead Space: Extraction for free? Will the digital version on here have that as well?

  • I’m getting MGS HD Collection.

I’m still haven’t picked HR. Do you know if the director’s cut will be limited or it will replace the GH one being sold right now?

  • No I’m not on crack or any other drug for that matter. I just hate crap plain and simple. It’s not my fault that what is popular is garbage. I gave Oblivion a chance I wanted to like it because I liked Fallout 3 but I found it to be incredibly boring. On a personal level I’d advice people who buy Bethseda games to wait they seem to have a bad habit of having way to many game breaking bugs at launch least for my taste. Since I know someone is going to say all huge games would blah blah that maybe be true but it does make it pointless to spend more to deal with all the problems that went unnoticed essentially paying to become a beta tester.

  • How much will Fight Night Champion be?

  • Not sure how I missed that error made to put advise blah you get the idea.

  • HA!!! Modern Warfare 3 isn’t even a contender (nominee) for Game of the Year

  • @Cynicalnerd Only the original version of Dead Space 2 comes with Extraction newer copies do not.

  • I’m feeling masochistic, maybe I’ll pick up Stuntman. By the way it’s the first game not the second. The second was on this generation of consoles.

  • @DragonWofJD

You must not have good tastes in video games.

  • Oh, and I’m exited to see more PS2 games each week. Keep them coming!!!! Please don’t forget how many games are in the library. And make them playable on the PS Vita like PS One games are on the PSP. Make it happen.

  • All the puppets want to speak and tell me I have bad taste oh how sad I don’t share your taste so I must have none. What will I ever do since the twelve year old’s feel I’m wrong.

  • And I’m pretty sure Stuntman was already for PS3.

  • MGS HD Collection!

  • I’m happy for the digital version of Fight Night. :-) And Skyrim, of course. And Heavy Rain. :-)

  • @DragonWolf – While I don’t agree with you, you stood by your opinion and backed it up with a reason unlike a lot of idiots do nowadays.

For me it was the opposite, I got Fallout because I loved Oblivion. But then I couldn’t get into Fallout 3…after 3 or 4 game attempts…I still never far past Megaton. lol

Modern Warfare 3 will tire out quickly but it will be fun at first. Mostly because of the group of friends I play with. I won’t keep it long enough for any of the DLC map packs to come out but I will play it off and on over the next month. I have no problems dropping 60$ on a game that will keep me entertained for several weeks. Heck, I spent almost 50 going to the movies to see some 3D crap…when you add up the cost of tickets, candy, soda etc.

On a PSN game front …yeah this is a weak week. But overall its a huge retail week…even if you aren’t a big fan of most games coming out.

  • yeah mw3

  • Man it’s sad to see someone hate so hard on some good video games. Dude needs a life.

This week is gonna be awesome. Between Skyrim, MGS and Crono Cross it’ll be great.

  • @CynicalNerd

Same here. Loved Oblivion but didn’t like Fallout 3 so much. But for some reason, I loved Fallout New Vegas

  • @CynicalNerd It’s good to see someone here has some sense instead of just getting pissed off like most of the people.

  • Oblivion is/was awesome! But it isn’t for everyone, but the Elder Scrolls series rocks my world. Fallout is good, but the next one will be better with a new engine.

  • Anyone know if Best Buy is carrying the MGS limited edition? Is there a date on Trine 2 yet?

  • Thank you Sony for keeping the PS2 classics coming!

Will try Ratchet & Clank and Rayman Origins demos.

  • This is probably the first time I’ve ever actually been excited for the demos haha.

  • Can’t wait till MW3, but Sony I have an emergency!!!!!!!!!! My bluetooth headset 2.0 I bought yesterday at Wal-Mart won’t charge!!!!!!!!! :( I put it in the charging cradle and it still won’t charge….. PLEASE REPLY TO ME!! If it keeps on acting this way i’ll take it back….PLEASE SONY!!!!!!!

  • Really? I wasn’t expecting any PS2 titles this week but I’m only getting Skyrim because I had to drop $52 on a new PS3 controller. :( Unfortunate swap and they ended up buying a Gamestop refurbished controller and I was unable to fix it with my spare Sony parts.

  • How about you Drop that Ten bucks into my account. That promotion sucked. I spent over the 60 and now I am waiting on you. I keep getting burned by late and pushed back dates.

Can’t wait for Skyrim. Gonna pass on MW3(sounds like a copy and paste of 2)

  • Will the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection be available in the PS Store?

  • SKYRIM!

Getting it on PC boys and girls, sorry!

    :D

  • @bakerarmy did you not get your 10$ back yet? It doesn’t go right into your account, check your PSN messages. I got mine on like November 2nd…most others on the 2nd or 3rd. If you don’t have a message you might wanna contact Sony.

Also you might want to put something in the drop about Skyrim coming out later than everything else. Skyrims release is the 11th, so if people go out tuesday to get it..they will be disappointed.

  • will we ever get the jak and daxter games for the ps2 classics?

  • How much Dead Space 2?

  • To the people saying that it’s a weak drop, you are an idiot. Two of the most anticipated games this year are being released in the same week. The Metal Gear Solid HD collection is a nice gem.

But I am curious to the pricing on the EA games.

If Monopoly Streets is 20 dollars, I am picking it up, I already own a physical copy and not having to lug a disk around would be nice.
Fight Night Champion is worth around 25 bucks from Amazon. So I could see this being at most a 39.99 title.
Dead Space if it doesn’t come with extras, is a 20 dollar game. You can still find a ton of Limited Editions in stores.

If Heavy Rain, Director’s Cut, is Greatest Hits, I will not buy it. If it’s not greatest hits, I’ll pick it up even at 49.99.

Can we please get some decent PS2 games on Playstation Network? Final Fantasy 10, 11, 12, Kingdom Hearts, and some of the older wrestling games would be nice. You got God of War, that’s awesome, but that’s also a PS3 remake.

  • I would definitely would buy Chrono Cross… but I already own it on Disc for PS1…. you know what PS2 classic I would get? VALKYRIE PROFILE 2!! hell yeah.

  • Skyrim makes my week alone. It will be one amazing weekend coming up, and it leads into Revelations :)

  • And when does Heavy Rain come out again? I hope they added nice new content to the game that’ll make it worth buying again :) Also on that ps2 classic Full Spectrum Warrior will it be online enabled?

  • Damn too many good games not enough moneyxd @Dragonwolf you are not a true gamer with bad taste , this is one of the most epic weeks with or without counting MW3 Chrono cross<3 !@#$% YEAH!

  • what! now Dead Space 2 on the PS Store!!
Nice! i have to buy this before this 18 november…

cant wait for MW3 & SKYRIM!!

  • @BShornock
