There’s more good news, because as a special gift anyone who purchased anything from the first batch of DLC will get unlock the Gran Turismo Racing Kart 125 SP and five New Car Refresh cards in the game for free. The refresh cards will take any car back to being ‘as good as new’ while maintaining any modifications or paint jobs you have given your motors. To take advantage of this offer, you’ll need to install the new downloadable update hitting next week.

GT5 Car Pack 2 DLC - Opening Move

The free downloadable update coming next week will also add several new enhancements to GT5 as well as correcting some reported issues. A few examples of the benefits of update 2.02 include:

  • Users can now change wheels on Standard cars
  • The settings sheets will include a new ‘copy’ feature
  • In GT Auto, players will be able to see how the oil changes, aerodynamic parts, engine overhauls, and racing modifications will affect performance points and engine power, before and after their application
  • Free coupons have been added that allow you to wash cars, change oil, overhaul your engine, or refresh the car body in GT Auto (10 coupons will be distributed for free to each of those who have downloaded the 2.02 update)
  • Pressing the Square button in the car coupon selection screen of the Car Delivery will now allow you to exchange all car coupons at once, rather than doing one at a time
  • In screens where the [Garage] and [Driver List] buttons are displayed in the A/B Spec events, Special Events, and Seasonal Events, pressing the Square button will now show the [Garage], and pressing the Triangle button will bring up the drivers list
  • In My Lounge, the room settings will feature a new ‘Max. number of participants’ setting
  • In the event selection screen of seasonal events, there are now ☆(star) marks that show the number of Gold Trophies attained in each event
  • Improved racing sound effects
  • Elements of the steering assist controls (used when using certain controllers on Racing Karts) have been tweaked

As an additional gift to players this holiday season, everyone who downloads the 2.02 update will also receive the stunning Toyota FT-86 2012 to add to their in-game collection.

One more note: Those who purchased the course and/or vehicle DLC that was released in October will be able to download Family Upgrade unlocks for free from the store. This means that if you bought the Racing Car Pack, Course Pack, or the ‘Complete Pack’ that contained both of these, by downloading the free Family Upgrade items, the content will now be accessible to more than just the user account that purchased the content. Family members or friends using the same PS3 can all use the courses and cars. Note that the upgrade doesn’t apply to the Racing Gear Pack or Special Paint Pack, and starting next week, new purchases will not have the restriction in place.

And don’t forget, there’s only one week left to compete in the special GT5 Time Trial Challenge and unlock a special edition Nissan GT-R for your garage. We hope you enjoy the free game updates, new cars and new batch of DLC. Drive safe!

  • Nice but I thought the toyota ft 86 was Subaru sti any way the update is great!!!

  • Sounds great! One quick question though:

I thought there was talk of adding the DLC cars to the dealership (for those who purchased the DLC) so that we could have more than one of each DLC car. Will this be coming with the update?

  • New cars are always welcome but i would have preferred to see new tracks, specially some from the older grand turismo.

  • Once again weak DLC, weak cars, Where are the newer cars? And What Developer releases a new track (SPA) and no new offline content to use it on? PD are so behind the times. GT5 is over a year old and they are still putting things in t should have had at launch (Changing rims on standards), and still don’t have all features that were advertised on the box (Leaderboards, Damage)

  • I agree, new (old) tracks would be sweet. I remember really enjoying Grindelwald (sp?) from GT3 (I think), and there’s always room to add new tracks. Infineon Raceway in Sonoma County California would be a nice touch too!

  • It would be great to get an answer as to why can’t have unlimited paint chip usage. It doesn’t make any sense why we can’t. You use the DLC paint once and then it’s gone.

I don’t understand the logic in this.

  • What no tracks ?????? seriously we got 1 cars the last time now we get less , and i dont see any tracks , another nissan really as if we dont have enough of those … i was actually looking forward to this but im not so sure, seems i might have waited 2 months for a dissapointment. i hope theres some tracks or i might not get it. so far im not impressed

  • How is the Buggatti Veyron still not a premium car?

  • Sigh…
More cars I dont care about. Im tired of seeing nothing but foreign cars in about 1001 didnt ways.

There are so many domestic cars that are not included in the game. Many that were in previous iterations of the game infact. There are barely in Pontiacs, ZERO Firebirds. Few Camaros & Mustangs. Where did the DMCs go, original and/or remake? Know what, how about the 2 cars I have always wanted to drive but they never made it to production the 2003 Trans am SD421 and Camaro SS 427? PLEASE!

Oh well who am I kidding not like anyone really cares about my feelings because im sure they sell. :(

  • I cannot believe Sony let their flagship title slip so bad in quality especially compared to the competition, the Single Player game is one of the worst I have seen in an modern racing game with the worst AI and structure.

Then, they release a track and add NO events for you to race them in. Then they release new cars no one cares about, another Nissan? LOL.

  • What abour GT5xl? announce that already

  • @mastorofpuppetz: Damages are there. Not in all modes but there.
@lowender75: Grindelwald was in GT2. Nice track indeed.
@ChaseHammerJ: DMC is in, but it’s a standard car. Forza is an american game with a lot of american cars; GT5 is a japanese game with a lot of japanese cars. Surprised?
An incomplete update for my advice, but better than nothing…

  • Yet another nissan… Not only am I disappointed with the car selections, but I must say that new tracks are far more appealing than more cars (given that they aren’t unique compared to what we already get non-stop…).

I hope to see this radically improve in the future.

  • Yes! Keep the updates coming!

  • @MasterOfPuppetz some of us saw it coming even before release with delay after delay after delay year after year and the poor quality when it did come out. Luckily I wisely passed on this but some of my friends (well 2 of them) didn’t and ended up barely playing it. but its true they should’ve adressed many problems before release, its not like they were short on time since they took far longer on this game than most others do on 3 games. And yes those who say the choice of cars is really bad have valid reason for saying so.

  • Awesome update! Can’t wait to find out what the “improved racing sound effects” are like. All you need to do now is add Koenigsegg, and the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport and this game will be perfect!

  • Oh, and thank you for lifting the DLC restrictions. Those were the whole reason why I didn’t purchase the first batch of DLC, now I can! :)

  • LOL @ the Xbox fanboy mastorofpuppetz, trolling so desperately hard in every story.

Must be so bitter to be stuck with a piece of garbage GT wannabe like Forza and its junk arcade driving model and cheap cartoonish graphics.

  • @12 damage is a joke and not in the most needed area of the game the entire Single player A-spec, along with the worst AI and boring race setups known to man. Again, its appalling Sony let their flag ship game release in such a state. Some mis-management going on at PD. Even Shift has a longer betetr career mode with actual AI that fights to win the races.

  • The update is nicer than the DLC, for sure. And like mastorofpuppetz said, we want SPA in an event!

Stop with the endless Nissan GT-R versions and focus on other cars. Give us Koenigsegg, Bentley and a nicer Veyron.

What’s with the car refresh cards? You want us to pay for cleaning up our existing cars after the five free ones?

  • @18, I dont even own a xbox…… I have higher standards for the PS3 flagship title, you should to. Good thing Gt5 had good physics, because its garbage at everything else.

  • I agree sony is letting there flagship go down the drain , they shoulda done alot better this is a measly 4 cars when the first dlc had 11 & 2 new tracks , now it not only costs less, but you get another stupid GTR i have tons of, 4 NEW CARS I DONT CARE ABOUT ,& NO NEW TRACKS ,
i dont get it , pd has the lic to all the old tracks but yet there stingy they wont refresh them and add them heck ide just like seattle . i bought the 1st dlc but the kart car i could care less about, looks the same as others .
this is a horrid dlc pack. i expected better from pd & sony but got dissapointed and at christmas nice gift guys .
i dont get you guys this game could be so awsome if you would go outside the box and listen to people and what we want but u wont so the game will suffer .
i will be like tons of other people i know and not buy this 1 they will have to fix this 1 big time before ill buy it . by adding older tracks . we dont want cars we want tracks , these tracks we race all the time there old. givwe us something ,el captain, seattle, thats no xmas gift getting a stupid kart car , u can do better .
    shame on you guys sony!

  • Can we paint cars?

  • woot woot i was hoping they would put the black edition in, 0-60 in 3.1 seconds. what happened to the people who bought multiples of the dlc get a special “gift”. i like the update, i finally get to change the looks of my standard cars.

“In GT Auto, players will be able to see how the oil changes, aerodynamic parts, engine overhauls, and racing modifications will affect performance points and engine power, before and after their application” final-effing-ly

“Elements of the steering assist controls (used when using certain controllers on Racing Karts) have been tweaked” umm how about no and make it so we can use the SIXAXIS

and as for the paid dlc, all i like is the gtr. it’s nice i get to have my car in the game but i dont give a crap about MINI’s and VW’s

your damn company screwed me over by making me believe i had to purchase the dlc again, when i called, for it to work. where are the free gifts to those people who bought multiples

  • While I am happy for another update, there needs to be a better variety of cars. There are way too many GT-R variations. I would prefer focusing on the game’s core problems rather than GT-R updates every two months. Why not fix the sound or add more tracks, or even let us use Spa for A-Spec or endurance events?

  • I for one think the wheel change for standard cars is HUGE! I’m looking forward to this! :D

  • I’m very happy that PD is listening to the fans in regard to changing rims for standard cars. Couldn’t be more happy. I will be buying the DLC for the volkswaggen Scirocco R which looks very interesting to drive in. This DLC is better than the first one!

    Thanks Polyphony!

  • @1 your complaing about car damage get to higher level of play within the game. you see alot of car damge.. You have to repair the cars in this game its not fun paying off a ferrai and damaging it and have to pay 450k$ to get it fixed or more..

The higher level of play means you have more $ credits to fix what you damaged. Why should anew gt gamer struggle and lose intrest becuase you want the cars like burnout. GT5 is not about damge of the cars it about smooth racing. You may want to try out motor storm or burn out if u like damage

  • Looks amazing!
Hope they throw in some Gran Turismo 5 avatars too.

  • I meant @21

  • Nice, but i’d like to see the Ferrari F-50, is one of my favorites and I was a little dissapointed to see that it wasn’t on the ferrari’s list

  • That GTR 2012 looks slick.

  • Awesome can’t wait! All the cars in this update look like fun to drive! I also like the copy settings sheet.

  • @28, No I want a sim, how can a game be a sim when I can run my car 200 MPH ina wall and my car gets no Mechanicla damage? And no, damage is not there even at lvl 40…Im at lvl 40. Its not about damage its about realism, ther eis no consequence for smashing into other cars or being a dirty driver in Gt5, its a joke.

If Gt5 wants to be takern seriously it needs a total overhaul, and damge needs to be properly implemented. Its a joke right now.

Also, having to repair your car in GT auto is a joke of a feature, it has NO discernable effect on your car.

Gt5 is the least realsitic sim i ever played. Hell even older GT games had At least qualifying for races, gt5 is like racing around pylons with no car if you play bumper cars around the track and no restrictions.

  • asdsdasds

  • @28 The damage is non existent at even level 40, also what kind of moronic decision is it to have to UNLOCk damage? Damage is a part of racing, wake up. GT5 is about realism yet you can run 200 MPH ina wall without fear and smash your way pass the dumb AI all day and no mechanical damage. Newflash, damage and crashing are a part of racing.

Any sensible sim needs mechanical damage to e taken seriously. It’s 2011. I’m lvl 40 and no, damage is still not there, I can crash 15 times and still drive around the track no problem, it’s a joke.

A game that tries to be a realstic sim without this is insane.

Paying to repair your car does nothing, its another poorly implemented feature in a long line for gt5. And no, I dont want burnout, Motorstorm, I want a decent GT game,a s Gt5 is not it, its lacking in so many areas to list.

  • Disappointed at the new cars in the dlc, but the update sounds great. Thanks, PD.

    A few questions:
Since we got the GT 86, is the Subaru BRZ coming too?
These refresh cards, will we be able to purchase more with in-game credits?
And what about re-buying the DLC cars at the dealership? I remember Kaz tweeting something about this.

  • @mastorofpuppetz

Play online, visual damage appears in all forms and shapes and it’s caused even with the slightest bumps. It’s also a lot more present in Rally cars (special events). They didn’t want to make it a part of A-spec for whatever reason, but it’s all there. Honestly, A-spec is not significant part of the game, at least not to me, maybe it should be more serious, but it’s not. The are only a couple of serious challenges in A-spec, I think they are all in Extreme races, one of them being the Formula Gran Turismo Championship. The meat of the game is in the Special Events. Other than the weak A-spec mode I have no qualms with the game, and since that’s only a small part of the game I couldn’t care less, I used it to enjoy driving many different cars, get to know the tracks and even had some very challenging races at the end, but once it’s over is not like I’m going to look that way ever again.

  • Polyphony Digital Thank you so much for the constant awesome driving action that Gran Turismo 5 offers! Feedback: Any chance we can change body parts on Standard cars next in the upcoming features… Also How about that rearview mirror feature.. No Im kidding about the rearview mirror feature, we can all dream right!? I will be downloading as soon as this hits! :) Thanks and keep up the amazing work!

  • Calm down, you’re going to burst into flames. One thing to remember here, fellas; It’s a game. IF you’re not having fun, don’t play it. :)

  • @mastorofpuppetz are you one of the people that were complaining SO BAD! back in August 2010 in wanting the game rushed out! IT was not finished! They are working on it each and every day to bring the best experience possible. Stop complaining.. It seems unfinished because people like you were wanting it NOW if you may.. Gran Turismo is not about damage… Its about how realistic a car stacks up to its reallife counterpart.. NOT how the hood deteriorates when impacted… its how the shocks and coilovers press up against the inside panel wall when a wind downforce hits the front of the car as it enters an apex turn. Hope this helps!

  • Oh! Cars that actually interest me! Awesome! Gotta love the new Mini and the Vdubs.

A pack I would like to see in the future: A Scandinavia pack, add some more Volvos, like the 850 of course, and the ’95 850 BTCC race car, and the P1800S, the longest lasting car ever, add Saab and Konigsegg as manufacturers, get some of that classy swedish goodness in there. Then maybe a British car pack, add a premium 90’s Cooper, and one of the old fashioned Cooper Rally Cars, maybe a few Bentleys and Nobles. And just stuff like that.

Another idea, maybe begin converting Standard cars into Premiums a little at a time with these updates. It seems like that wheel change feature, and allowing cockpit view with the last update are good step in that direction.

I’m glad they are finally adding stuff to this game on a regular basis. It renews the experence and makes me pick up the game again

  • @38, A-spec is by far the biggest part of the game, only a fraction of the buyers who bought play GT5 online. Lets not even begin to talk about how pathetic the online is in GT5, no matchmaking, no leaderboards, etc… 8 years behind. It can take forever just to find a room./ On top of that when you finally find 1 an hour later you finally get to race only for everyone to smash into each other. Online is as bad as a-spec.

  • @41 dont speak for me I was NOT one of those screaming for them to release it, lots of other great game to play. Fact is I knew GT5 was in trouble long before it launched for it to be so delayed as it was. I would rather wait 1-2 more years and even then PD still has a half arsed product.

  • Ok so sold your GT5, wait for GT6, and let us take pleasure with our poor game…

  • @ mastorofpuppetz
Really damage needs to be improved? It’s a video game and damage is an un-needed feature, I also don’t recall you’re suppose to be crashing anyways. And are you kidding with the online being terrible? leaderboards; un-needed because I don’t recall myself ever caring about that, matchmaking? this isn’t your generic Call of Duty. Oh, you’re probably the guy that joins all these randoms rooms from Brazil and has no friends. If you want a challenge, get some friends host a private lounge like I do and race.

  • This DLC is really is a real let down. Ok, they put a Golf and a Sirocco that’s good. This game needs more tracks so me and my friends don’t have to play the same old tracks day in and day out. I still have my trust in PD to bring some more tracks, because making tracks takes time.

  • Fix the rolling x2 file start glitch at Daytona and Indy I’m getting tired of pressing start twice to get up to full speed.

  • Awesome, AWESOME UPDATE! Two things come to mind…

1; I would like to see an option for an oil change in online lobbies. If it’s not possible, that’s ok. But if it is, I know the majority want this to be available.

2; Please, PLEASE hook up the NASCAR fans with at least one new track. My personal choice would be a short-track. Preferably BRISTOL! :D

Awesome job GT! I have never gotten more for $60 from any other game. P.S. Even with the daily % increase, money is hard to come by. Perhaps bring the seasonal payout up a little bit.

  • @46, Damage not needed? Everyone crashes sometimes, in real life, gt5 is the most unrealistic sim ever. A real sim needs mechanical damage, not to mention all the other areas GT5 is sub par.

Matchmaking COD, Any game the last 5 years worth its salt in online has matchmmaking. The mish mash of rooms and people getting kicked for being good , and the punters smashing into everyone online is a joke.

Only a blind GT5 fanboy says Damage in unnecessary, its essential for any real racing sim. Every other game has had it for years and the worlds biggest game doesn’t is a joke, Gt5 reviews were poor for a reason.
