Special Launch Day PS Vita 3G/Wi-Fi Bundle Announced

With only 27 days until the launch of PlayStation Vita, we are excited to announce two PS Vita 3G/WiFi bundles. If you were one of the lucky consumers to pre order the PS Vita First Edition Bundle, in addition to the PS Vita 3G/Wi-Fi hardware, a limited edition case, a 4GB PS Vita Memory Card and Little Deviants game, we will now be including an AT&T DataConnect Pass good for one free 250MB data session (a $14.99 value) upon purchase of one 250 MB data session, and a PlayStation Network game – both provided upon 3G activation on the AT&T mobile broadband network. And the best part, you still get it a week before the official launch date.

Vita First Edition Bundle

We are happy to announce today that we will be creating an extremely limited edition PlayStation Vita 3G/Wi-Fi bundle designed to reward those who brave the cold to stand in line on February 22nd (or even those who come in the few days that follow). In addition to the PS Vita hardware, we will be including an 8GB PS Vita Memory Card, an AT&T DataConnect Pass and a PlayStation Network game all for the usual MSRP of $299. This SKU is part of a promotional offer and will sell out immediately so we strongly recommend that you purchase your PS Vita early to make sure you get the extra value!

While the system is a fantastic option, the addition of 3G-network access is perfect for the gamer that wants convenience, community and connection – basically the ability to immediately socialize with your gaming community. Using the AT&T mobile broadband network also allows you to engage in multi-player gaming, utilize GPS location-based digital gifting, stay up to date with continuous LiveArea scores and game ranking news feeds, compete for in-game achievements, engage in PS Vita to PS3 cross-platform game play, cross-game message with Party, and have access to software updates, all while on the go. You’ll also be able to login to the PS Store and download new content and add-ons for some of your favorite titles.

There are lots of exciting updates still to come as we get closer to launch, and we will be sure to keep you posted. Our goal here at PlayStation is to transform every aspect of life into an entertainment experience. We know when you get your hands on Vita you may really never stop playing!

  • Good deal but I don’t want to pay 2 times the data when I can just enable wireless hotspot from my phone to use on the PSV when I want to play online. 3G, right?

  • WTF? I preordered First Edition Bundle, but it seems like now I should cancel it and go for the 3G Version. The First Edition Bundle should include 8gb memory card also!!

  • Canceling a pre-order is not that hard. If you really think this one is better, then just cancel the old bundle and pre-order this one instead. In fact, it takes less time to switch orders than it does to type out a complaint about how you’re getting “screwed.”

  • I don’t think people are realizing the 8GB card is only $30.

  • That being said it does seem weird to have something on the regular model that you can’t get on the premium FEB, especially considering the pack-in game is a game nobody really wants anyway.

  • I am sad

  • What game will the PlayStation Network Game does the bundle include?

  • I mean what game does the bundle include specifically

  • ok so does anyone know what the PSN game will be for the first edition??? or do you get to choose what game you get??? Can you get like Uncharted or Resistance. And dont you get a free game for signing up for the 3g after a month??

  • @lPHOENIXZEROl read Vita specs, it has 512 or mb onboard, it was even in Qore esp 44, it has to have its own memory for the software needed to run the system because normal WiFi ones don’t come with memory sticks, and system needs to be able to play right from the box, or they would never sell any unless they included memory stick. So 512 is good enough for most software and maybe few game saves, I hear games only take up around 1mb for save – coming from someone who has it in Japan.

  • Wow. I really sort of feel cheated. John, I think you need to go back to Sony and tell them they need to swap out the memory sticks and those that are investing in a handheld, yeah a week early, but by then gamers are reporting that the Vita is worth it, or it isn’t giving others a sufficient amount of time to cancel their pre-order. John, if you haven’t been reading the news lately, the PlayStation 3 is suffering in Japan and US gamers aren’t at all happy with the even adjusted prices of the memory sticks. We’re not spoiled Sony. We just want a fair price. What Sony needs to do, is give those venturing out earlier the 8GB and the Pre-Orders and Gamestop the 4GB. Sony, if you can’t comply to the demands of gamers, you’re going to face a similar launch to the 3DS and the PS3. The $250 price tag was great. It was the moment Sony said: “Oh by the way, our memory sticks costs more than a game.” It was in the bag until then. IF YOU DON’T! Mark my words, its going to HURT YOU WORSE THAN in Japan.

  • I cant get the 3g version cause 3g is to expensive for me to pay that much monthly and not get not unlimited.
And it is really sad Sony is not thinking about the whole crowd buying the Vita. Why is the wifi only not getting ANY type of bundle?

  • @303 Wrestlingdude011

Do the math, it’s a $10 voucher for a PSN game. Your choices are likely going to be Escape Plan, Hustle Kings, Super StarDust Delta, Plants Vs Zombies or Tales of Space: Mutant Blobs. But the chances are it’ll be Sony published releases which narrows it down to the first three listed. Games with retail releases will not be included.

To get the “free” game, you have to buy AT&T’s data connect plan for $20 for a month or 300MB of bandwidth, which ever comes first and then after that’s up you get your “free month” which is 250MB. After your month or whatever is up you get to choose the game.

  • I’m still only getting the wifi model.

    wifi model: $250
    8gb card: $30
    Case: $20
    Game of my choice: $40-$50

$340 – $350 way better deal in my opinion.

  • Sony gives you choices, you get mad. I really don’t understand people. I could easily cancel my order and get the new deal but, I don’t care… I’ve pre-paid for the FEB and, STILL happy to have it. I realize the extra money I’m paying is basically just to get it a week early. That’s enough.. Shoot, I’d throw another $50 down if they could get it to me on Feb. 8th. Many would ridicule me for that but, only because they wouldn’t choose to do the same. I understand, we all have budgets, gaming just happens to be near the top of mine (after food, clothing, and shelter). Don’t hate on me because I can work it into my budget or, scream that Sony is cheating you or, being unfair…

As for the wifi/3G debate, I may or may not end up using the 3G features on games enough to justify the monthly fees.. However, I’d rather have the option and decide later not to use it.. Than, find out the games and features that do use it are pretty cool but, my wifi only system can’t use them. It’s a gamble but, a gamble I’m willing to take. If you’re not, then you have that choice.

  • This 3G deal is for Sony to push more 3G units since there’s a huge lack of interest in it. That’s why the U.S. Didn’t get the WiFi First Edition Bundle like Canada (who also get a Best Buy Canada deal for a free copy of Uncharted:GA to go along with the bundle) and why now they’re including a 8GB memory card in the 3G SKU and doing nothing for the WiFi model.

Sony is hoping to boost interest in the 3G model, be it getting new people to order or others to cancel their WiFi pre-order in favor of the 3G model. Though now Sony’s running the risk of pissing off those who pre-ordered the WiFi version but were still a bit on the fence to go through with buying and those who also pre-ordered the WiFi model with ZERO interest in 3G. Top it off, they’ve made it so the only real incentive in keeping the First Edition Bundle being you get it a week early. Someone with no interest in Little Deviants might as well just order the normal 3G package unless getting it a week early is worth it being a worse value.

  • I’m not going to include the “free” PSN game (that’s not really free) or the AT&T crap, however just to make it easier let’s say you’re interest in getting Little Deviants anyway and a hard case.

    FEB:

    3G PSV: $300
    4GB MC: $20
    Little Deviants: $30
    Hard Case: $10
    —–
    Total = $350 and a $360 “value”.

    3G SKU w/free 8GB card:

    3G PSV: $300
    8GB MC: $0 ($30 “value)
Little Deviants: $30 (though you have the freedom of putting that money towards another game).
Hard Case: $10 (might not be the FEB one but you can get a quality licensed case from Hori).
    —–
    Total = $340 and a $370 “value”.

The only reason to stick with the First Edition Bundle at this point is to get it a week early, Sony has basically sabotaged it for people who didn’t get it primarily for it coming early. The FEB wasn’t that great of a deal in the first place but now it’s less so and you are basically paying extra for the benefit of getting it a little earlier.

  • Jeesh why is everybody complaining?? Sony ISNT required to give you anything, they are being generous enough to give us some extra goodies.. THose of us that already pre ordered were obviously satisfied with the deal that was previously on offer, now its even better… I pre ordered the first edition bundle which already comes with a 4 gig memory card= $20, A limited edition case=$20, a copy of little deviants=$30, now we 250mb of 3g data for free, and a psn game of our choice $10-$40!!!! thats almost $100 of free stuff just for pre-ordering… Instead of whining and complaing be thankful that sony is giving us soo much awesome.. I’m more then satisfied…

  • this sud be the bundle if u want to sell it like a hot cake sony.
ps vita wifi/uncharted/8gb memory for 299.00.i bet it would sell like new iPhone lol.

  • Meh… all this hubbub over 3G bundles. Who cares? I’ve got the Wi-Fi model, Uncharted:GA, Dynasty Warriors Next and a 32GB card all paid off, in cash (no paying interest for me). With all the PSP and PSOne games I’ve got on my PSN account, I’ll probably be buying another 32GB card within the next 6 months, just so I can have everything I want to play be instantly accessible with a card swap.
And I’ll be busy playing Kingdoms of Amalur for most of February, so I don’t really need to get the Vita before the 22nd, since as it is right now, I’ll be scrambling to find time to try it out before March rolls around. So many games, so little time.

  • @XFRod: The nice thing about the Wi-Fi only model is that, should I decide to use the online features of any games when I’m not within my home’s wi-fi network, I can just use the built-in wi-fi tether option on my Nexus S phone, which I’m already paying for. No need to pay extra for a 3G feature on the Vita and AT&T for redundant service when I’ve already got what I need. The fact that Sony is completely ignoring the Wi-Fi device is really sad. And their supporters have shown them, FROM DAY ONE, when they announced the exclusive deal with AT&T, how displeased we were with the situation. Yet in the months since, they’ve done nothing but try to shove the 3G model down our throats. Now, I love Sony and will continue to support them, but they’ve decided to throw on blinders and run full speed in the wrong direction on this issue. Kinda like Ubisoft and their overpriced ports. And sadly, they will suffer, in some respect, because of their ignorance and stubbornness on this issue.

  • @310 MOPARFUL99

Sony is required to do whatever they can (legally) to sell their products, they’ve decided that they need to include an incentive for the 3G model because NO ONE IS BUYING IT. Again, that case’s retail value is $10, $15 AT MOST and you’re not getting a $10-$40 PSN game free, you’re at getting a $10 PSN game 30 days after paying AT&T $20 for the initial Data Connect Pass. It’s no where close to a “$100 value”.

And “thank you that Sony is giving us so much awesome”? Really? Sony isn’t doing any one favors, it’s a business and they don’t give a damn about any of us. What they care about is making sales and hitting projections, they’re getting desperate with the 3G model.

No one should be thanking Sony, unless Sony is giving them something totally free with no strings attached. If anything Sony should be THANKING US. THAT is what they’re doing in a PR sense with the 3G SKU bonus, that’s what they were doing with the FEB though both at the same time are also being done to benefit themselves because they want and probably NEED to hit a certain number of 3G sales as per their deal (where they get paid a lot of money) with AT&T.

  • @AizawaYuuichi
Sony didn’t have the choice to change the carrier after it announced AT&T and saw how displeased the customers were about that, they had already formed a contract with AT&T. It’s not like they were going to just be like “Oops, Sorry AT&T, I guess we’re going to go with Verizon.”

And besides, I don’t have a cellphone, I share one with my girlfriend, so she always has it. So the 3G feature is worth it to me. That’s the thing that I Like about Sony, they always give plenty of OPTIONS.
Yes, Options, as in, if I don’t want something, I don’t HAVE to get it.
But by the way most of the people are whining over “getting ripped off” or feeling like “a slap in the face” You’d think that Sony had announced that they were no longer offering wifi, only 3G, and the only place you’d get a 3G signal was a small town in Alabama.
Holy crap, these people need to take a deep breath of reality, put some pants on, walk outside, and get struck by the first rapidly moving vehicle that comes their way.
They really do taint the experience of reading this blog.

  • I hear a bunch of people crying. I don’t care, I bought the bundle, I get it one week early, and no matter what, I love and support Sony Playstation all the way, even if they are having troubles. I can’t wait to pick mine up. ^_^

  • This bundle totally destroys the First Edition Bundle.

    Let’s break it down.

    First Edition Bundle ($350) Contents:

    PS Vita 3g/Wi-Fi: $300
    Hard Case: $20
    4gb Memory Card: $20
    Little Deviants: $30
    Total Value:$370
    Total Savings: $20

PS Vita 3g/Wi-Fi Bundle ($300) Contents:

    PS Vita 3g/Wi-Fi: $300
    8gb Memory Card: $30
    Total Value: $330
    Total Savings: $30

Add in a $20 case and a $30 game, and you’re paying $350. That’s the SAME price as the First Edition Bundle, and you get a memory card that is twice the size, and a game of choice that’s actually worth playing.. and believe me, I’ve played all the mini-game archetypes in Little Deviants, and they’re mostly awful, some mediocre at best.

Essentially Sony has rendered the First Edition Bundle irrelevant, unless getting the Vita a week early is worth a small memory card and lame tech demo in favor of twice the storage and a better game.

  • I’m really excited for the PSV, I already have it payed off and getting it one week early. For the people that feel hosed they aren’t getting an 8gig stick shouldn’t feel hosed. They’re getting it one week early and for the $299.99 version not to be outdone they had to do something with it. And, in this idea you’re basically trading 4gigs for a one week early release. To me it seems like a fare trade, but Sony could have gave them both 8gig cards. But, like I said earlier, the didn’t want the $299.99 version out done to point where everyone is getting it one week early.

  • If this is the case than the Wi-Fi Only model should get a free 4GB as well. I understand they need people to buy a 4GB but way limit the last bundle to have nothing.

I’m still getting the Starter Kit (that comes with a 4GB plus a bunch of other accessories for $40) and than buying an 8GB ($30) but still.

  • I’m gonna buy a 32gig card when I get the chance to. Actually as for individual cards, I’ll only be picking up 32gig cards.

Sony Read this! this is something u might want to take a look! its very/extremely important for u to give unlimited 3G plans to the vita at a GOOD price! I do this bc i love u! LOL!

    anyways @ Nightmare_lord
I just read that in the same article i just posted for sony to read… and …. im very disappointed… whats the point of having 3g then! i wanted it to play online while in work or something not to go to freaking facebook! sigh…

  • The free PSN game is probably worth $10

It claims to offer $55 of bonus content.
    8GB memory card- $30
    250MB/1M Data- $15
    Unknown PSN game- $10

    According to the amazon.com listing…
“Plans automatically renew, so after your promotional session expires, automatic renewal of your 1st DataConnect Pass plan selected will take effect and you are responsible for charges, unless you cancel auto-renewal before the plan renews.”

“30 days after your DataConnect Pass activation, you will receive a game voucher code redeemable on the PlayStation Store.
*For details and limitations go to us.playstation.com/psvita”

…so be aware of the auto-renew trap in there; also you don’t get your free game at lauch (they probably want you to still buy a game at launch)

It still makes me want to buy this bundle instead of the WiFi only model but be aware that if you are running a really tight budget you might not want this due to not having immediate access to the free game.

  • what a joke this new “deal” is…look at the fine print (taken from amazon)

“Your promotional 250 MB session automatically starts upon expiration of your 1st session plan, if you have activated the redemption code. Offer redeemed is for 250MB DataConnect Pass session only, regardless if you are on the 250MB or 3GB DataConnect Pass plan.) ”

“Free game when you activate an AT&T DataConnect Pass*:”

Am I reading that correctly? You NEED to pay for a plan, THEN AFTER it expires you get your free plan? And on top of that you need to subscribe to AT&T to get the free game? oh and the best part is that the code expires in march. The only nice part of it is the free 8gb card.

  • oh, and like the poster said above, you need to WAIT 30 DAYS AFTER redeeming the code for the free game.

  • Goddammit! Looks like I’m picking up the 3G version now… I hate you guys!

  • What a joke, I’m going to cancel my First Edition preorder and get the new bundle instead. Much rather an 8GB card than a game I don’t even care about.

Gotta hand it to you Sony… normally early adopters have to wait til the “second gen” of a product to get screwed… you’re doing before we even get a chance to buy!

  • WiFi only. Not getting one anytime soon anyway (too expensive)

  • @John Koller

I reserved the 3G bundle but now I’m concerned and thinking about changing it to wifi only. Is it true that you have to pay for an extra month after the 250mb expires? I was confused after reading the fine print. Also what game can you download? Is it any game or only one specific game? If it’s a specific game, I’m changing my pre-order to wifi then.

    • The DataConnect Pass provides 250MB of data after you activate and complete your first session. And the PSN game has not yet been announced but will be a $15 value.

  • I am going to be sooooooooo pissed if PSone games are not available for it soon. I am getting one on launch as a leap of faith. This is still the biggest feature I want so I can play them on the larger oled screen!

  • @Dragonchasers

I think people are not valuing Little Deviants at $30 in their head. Something is worth what people are willing to pay for it. If you are a person who was getting the early edition because it was early, but don’t care that much for Little Deviants. Then you might want to rethink the “value” difference between getting it early, or saving $50 and getting a bigger card with the vanilla 3G version. Then you could get the case you want and still save money.

If you DO care about Little Deviants, that specific case, and getting it early, then be happy with your pre-ordered early edition. You aren’t dumb or lame if that is the case. To each his own.

For me the 4GB and the 8GB are too small. I will sell the 8GB and use that toward a better game and the 32 GB card. I couldn’t care less about getting it early. I am 26 years old. It would be social suicide to flaunt the early edition in peoples faces.

  • Just my 2 cents…

Because the memory cards are so important to this system, and because they’re so expensive.. this does FEEL like you’re screwing the early adopters a little.

    This is a fine bundle..

These late decisions that Sony makes is the reason that I haven’t pre-ordered my WiFi only version yet. I’ll wait until a couple of weeks before hand to see if they come out with something for that. ( although I’m not holding my breath )

  • I personally think they should be pushing the wifi model. I pre-ordered the FEB with 3g/wifi, but Sony needs to remember that 3G isn’t available in most places. Just like this statement…

“we will now be including an AT&T DataConnect Pass good for one free 250MB session, and a PlayStation Network game – both provided upon 3G activation.”

This does nothing for me, since 3G isn’t available in my area.

  • Public Notice: To get the “FREE” PSN game ($9.99 value) you need to wait 30 days before getting the code. Which kicks in a new month of data use at $15/ 250mb. So if you did not intend to keep using the data plan you actually are spending $15 dollars for a $10 game.

  • so the games actually come a week early, for those who pre ordered could get the games that week, that means that i can buy a game or two a week before the VITA so i can actually be ready for it?

    • Yes this is true. Games will generally be available in stores starting Feb 15th, so that those who purchased the First Edition bundle can enjoy other games as well.

  • Some love for the FEB would be nice

  • @331 Miacosa

Actually it’s going to be $20 for 300MB, AT&T is raising their prices.

I think I saw that it auto renews also… Can’t wait to see how many pissed off 3G model owners there will be out there because they weren’t paying attention forgot to cancel.

    • The 250MB for $14.99 data plan remains for Vita owners as we originally announced it. The $20 AT&T plan you reference is for other tablet/mobile users – not Vita.

  • Most beautiful company in the world please add Language Arabic

  • Aashbab Please help me to add Language Arabic please please

  • No love for us WiFi only people? Come on, I’ve been waiting and anticipating this just as much as the next guy! I already pre-paid for my console at Gamestop. :( I don’t have the money to pay for an additional fee for 3G every month, I’d never use it. But jeeze man, I wish you’d offer up some kind of goodies for us that have been waiting just as patiently for the less expensive model…

  • Ummmm…Yet again, Sony decided to sweeten the deal for some & they get hate mail by all the rest.

  • #334 – Auto-Renew and Direct Payments are nothing new. If someone isn’t responsible enough to manage their finances to account for auto payments that they signed up for. That’s not Sony’s fault.

  • Today I switched to the 3G Bundle from gamestop, the Reciept says ” >020163 Sony PSVita w/WIF<" Anyone who switched also get that? Im just a bit worried the store sales guy put me for the lame-o WIFI only model instead.

It took 2 minutes to switch I was just like "I would like to switch from the first edition to the 3G Bundle that was announced yesterday, gs guy: the one for 299 right? me: yep." -Gives reciept- so anyone feeling screwed over because they got FEB, it takes all of two minutes to switch it o.e and ur not locked into the preorder on AMAZON till you pay so yeah…feel free.
