How to Download PSP Titles to PS Vita

PSP Gaming on PS Vita

PS Vita will begin making its way into gamers’ hands in just a few short days! Day one Vita owners will have many, many games to choose from, with 25 titles announced for launch on February 22nd. Actually, make that 26 — Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus is now a confirmed launch title as well.

If you’re being thorough, however, that number is off by a bit… like by 90%. Hundreds of classic PSP titles and minis will also be available to play on PS Vita on day one via the PlayStation Store. Even better, if you’ve already downloaded a compatible PSP title, you can download it directly onto your PS Vita at no extra cost (please note that some limitations do apply).

There are a couple of ways to get these PSP games onto your PS Vita:

  • Purchase PSP games from PS Vita’s PlayStation Store and download via WiFi directly to your system. If you’ve already purchased a game via PSN from the list below, you can redownload it from the Download List.

  • If you’ve already got one of these games sitting on your PS3 XMB (or have purchased from the PS3’s PlayStation Store), you can connect your PS Vita to the PS3 via the included USB cable, and transfer the game via PS Vita’s on-board Content Manager.

Here are the first 275 PSP titles ready to be downloaded onto PS Vita. Don’t worry if you don’t see your favorite title here now; more PSP titles will be made available for PS Vita play in the coming weeks. We’ll keep this list current and let you know when updates are made.

  • Now they just have to let us download PS1 classics to our Vita, I really wish that was available from the get go but what can ya do. Thanks Jeff, keep up the great work as always!

  • OOH Now I want to get a Vita soon! Monster Hunter FTW!

  • How do I add my UMD PSP games to Vita?

  • Oh, and 3rd Birthday is listed twice. Just lettin’ ya know.

  • Good thing the last year or so, I’ve been buying PSP games digitally when possible. And hopefully PS1 and PS2 games will be compatible soon.

  • Will MediaGo be updated to support the Vita?

  • When will PS3 remote play be enabled? I will buy a PSV but only if it will allow me to play games from my PS3 library.

  • Come on now… Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker needs to be on that list ASAP, Jeff!

    • Just to be clear – this is the initial list. It is by no means final. So for you (and others below) clamoring for X title, you should not think that just because you don’t see it here today doesn’t mean it’s not going to be here soon.

  • Some of the prices are rediculous. Some are still full price dispite having been out for several years.

As an example, MAG for ps3 is 10$ in stores, and 30$ digital.

  • I got them on my PC in Media Go. Do I have to download them again? Also any new psp games coming on the vita launch?

  • no ogre battle?????
    no joan ark??????
    valkyria 2??????
    phantasy star 2?????

  • No MGS: Portable Ops or Valkyria Chronicles 2?

Feels like a heart attack right now! :'(

  • Looking forward to PS1 support eventually. I bought FFVI especially for that.

  • @ XBLRamstein: you can’t

  • I would also like to continue playing my copy of FFVII on my PS Vita :)

  • Will the right analog stick be functional with these games? Much like how you’re able to re-map the controls of PSone classics on the PSP?

  • I could have sworn I saw Dylan Cuthbert playing PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe on his Vita

  • Neither of the Metal Gear titles?! No Valkyria Chronicles? Really? That’s extremely disappointing, especially since people have demoed Peace Walker all over the place, and it’s available in other regions. While it’s understandable you could not offer a UMD passport program over here, this is NOT understandable at all – these are some of the PSP’s most popular titles, not some niche games that most people won’t miss.

  • @18 I am guessing that Japan had a different list of games supported at launch.

  • So… no Killzone Liberation or Mod Nation Racers?? but!…but! those are the only digital PSP titles i have dood!

  • I love that image.. PS Vita can spit out PSPs! :D

  • 2 questions.

    1. why is Angry Birds not compatible?

    2. what about PSOne classics?

  • No Patchwork Heroes either :(

  • @NIGHTRAVEN3: Why not? There are MANY people who supported a relatively unknown product(the first Sony handheld) by buying the PSP in the first place and now we get slapped in the face like this? You just lost a purchase, $ony.

  • Jeanne d’Arc?! :-(

  • There’s no Final Fantasy: Crisis Core :'(,,,,,, I’m specting that one

  • “will be made available for PS Vita[ and Xperia] play in the coming weeks”
    There fixed :P

  • @25 You can still keep your PSP and play your UMD games there. and use the PS Vita for PS Vita games. It kinda makes sense, right!?

  • @Kchow23 it would if my PSP still worked. I was waiting until the Vita to buy another Sony handheld. I know I’m not alone in thinking that the exclusion of UMD support is a grave mistake.

  • Can I download and play Minis that I have previously received for free using PlayStation Plus?

  • Glad Age of Zombies is there. I love me some Barry Steakfries. 6 days to go!!!

  • Awesome all the digital psp titles I have won’t even work yet. Well that just really disappoints me. It also really sucks that PS1 games will not work. Will this be fixed in the future because I would sure love to play my RPGs on it.

  • Looks like a decent start. Whats the PS3 to PS Vita copy speeds? Any word on PSClassics?

  • I have a Vita (yes, be jealous) and I can confirm that both Valkyria Chronicles II and Jeanne d,Arc both work fine. I haven’t had a chance to check Killzone Liberation or LittleBigPlanet yet, but those first two titles can both be added to this list.

Also, the first thing everyone should do when playing PSP games on a Vita is touch and hold the screen to bring up the customisation menu. You will want to turn on bilinear filtering. It is off by default, but turn it on and it makes the graphics of the PSP games look much better. Without it, they are a grainy and blurry mess, but flip that option on and they are really nice looking and only have a slight softness to the picture. Just trust me on this, you’ll thank me later.

  • One of the main reasons I was getting a Vita was to play games like Valk 2. I even pre purchased it. I didn’t realize the system would be so limited. I even got the DLC.

I am tempted to cancel my Vita order and just wait.

  • Thats great, i bought all Digital anyway. Will MGS Peace Walker also be coming?

  • Ok Doods! i just noticed this one

“Here are the first 275 PSP titles ready to be downloaded onto PS Vita. Don’t worry if you don’t see your favorite title here now; more PSP titles will be made available for PS Vita play in the coming weeks. We’ll keep this list current and let you know when updates are made.”

    problem solved? maybe?

  • No Peacewalker?!?!?! Whaaat

  • @30 Yeah, I have GBA games that I wish my 3DS could play… not that I don’t agree that it would’ve been awesome if the UMD Passport made it over, but I knew that it wouldn’t since it didn’t happen when the PSP Go launched. Possible solutions would be to trade/sell your UMD games for PSN cards and then buy them again over PSN or buy a cheap PSP and use your PS Vita for PS Vita games.

  • Oh for MrHeroSlayer, copy speeds to and from PS3 are very good, the same as you would expect for any USB connection moving files to and from flash media.

I checked the list again, and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories isn’t on there, but I’m playing that right now so you can add that on too. Also, GUN: Showdown works, and that is a great game for showing off the remapping of the face buttons to the right analogue stick. I played the original on Xbox 360, and rebought the game on PSP. Face buttons instead of a second stick was very awkward, but on the Vita with the remapping it plays EXACTLY like the big console version. I’m very impressed with that.

  • I bought Gods Eater: Burst and Valkyria Chronicles 2 SPECIFICALLY to play upscaled (and with second analog support) on the Vita.

Why was every piece of press leading up to the release harping on about how you can play “all PSP games downloaded from the PSN” when that is blatantly NOT the reality of the situation? That’s $60 worth of utterly useless software sitting on my PS3 now.

Not impressed. I thought I’d give Sony another shot after my decade long history with them and their repeated egg on face moments last year, but already I’m regretting that decision. Won’t be recommending the Vita to anyone at this rate.

  • Looks like a solid start would be nice to play Jeanne d’Arc and Valkyria Chronicles 2 someday. Any update on the OSX Manager? It will be available next week?!? Would be nice if I could download everything to my work computer so I could sync up when the Vita comes and not wait until I get home.

  • Interesting, I wasn’t aware that the “Hot Shots Shorties” games were considered “Minis”. And I hope that Valkyria Chronicles 2, Ys I & II and Hot Shots Tennis are added soon!

[They still have about a week to get more games up on the list for people who are buying the First Edition Bundle and more so when the PS Vita officially launches on the 22nd.]

  • No mod nation/LBP?
Those were the free games in the welcome back program! the most downloaded ones!!!

and all of them cost too much!

  • @Fifthcore The OSX Manager is out, I have it installed on my Macbook Pro.

  • @ Above, I see that VS 2 does work (according to some ppl posting here).

Has anyone tried Gods Eater: Burst? That’s the game I was most excited to play on the Vita.

  • Just because it makes perfect sense, i’m gonna post what they said… again!

    problem solved?? maybe?? someone??

  • @ 29 UMD is finished. Move forward in life. At some point not everything is going to be backwards compatible. Are you hacked you can’t play NES cartridges in the Wii? Oh Sony my Walkman won’t interface with my PS3, you just lost a BUNCH of cassette purchases!!!! Get real, sir. And yes I realize it’s only one generation, but if your PSP is no longer working, and it’s that important to you, go pick up a used one for $60 and don’t buy Vita. You’re obviously either not ready to let go or you just want something to complain about. Or better yet DO buy the Vita and trade in your UMDs before launch so you’ll have $$ to buy digital copies.

    Love,
    Done with UMDs
