As you may recall, we had postponed our scheduled PlayStation Network maintenance session from last Thursday to a time to be announced. It is now determined that maintenance will take place tomorrow (Sunday, March 4).
This significant PSN maintenance period is expected to start at just after noon Pacific and will last for several hours, until approximately 2am Pacific on Monday, March 5. Unlike typical maintenance events, consumers who are already signed-in to PSN will be signed-out, and consumers will be unable to sign in for the duration of the maintenance window. During this time, users won’t be able to access the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, Account Management or play online. PSN enabled websites will not be able to service users, including this one.
Please stay tuned to the PlayStation Twitter feed for a notice when PSN is fully back online. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Just brilliant Sony – do your maintenance precisely when it will inconvenience the maximum number of people instead of analyzing your usage metrics and doing this when the fewest number of people will be inconvenienced. Why is MS and every other online service able to do maintenance without bringing their service down but Sony still can’t figure this out?
This is why I buy almost all of my multiplatform games on 360 and use PS3 primarily for exclusives. So many apologists here; Sony will never improve if their customers don’t let them know when they’re not meeting expectations or keeping up with the competition.
And on a friggin’ Sunday. Enough reason to never buy your gaming products again.
Please FIX/IMPROVE:
1) The Internet Browser (It’s so clunky and not very user friendly)
2) Put Crackle in HD and under TV/Video Service right next to Netflix
3)Change the XMB layout (time for an overhaul)

Whatever this is, I hope its important. I’d really love to see an upgrade to the friends list, such as a bigger color palette for the box around your ID. Or even a customizable palette. :)

@100 GMFC0311 I really doubt sony can just change the XMB without a firmware update and even then i question whether they have the necessary ram for a change. seems unlikely at this stage we’ll see a new XMB design closing in on 6 years the PS3 been out
Many issues with the Vita-PSN to iron out and Mass Effect on tuesday(Got mine on pre-order). Their dedicated servers are going to be full with multi-player games, better to test it now than to try and fix it after a crash !!! You can still play, just not online. And you will still be awarded your trophies ! Oh and here is something you can also do, “GO OUTSIDE” enjoy that big bright ball of fire in the sky !!!!
I think I will either rack up some Dynasty Warriors next trophies or maybe go back and try to play through the freeze ridden game save im trying to complete on New Vegas.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it WAS a FW update for Vita/PS3 capability. I truly hope so! Once compatibility is fully up and running (via cross play and PS3 gaming), it will change my whole gaming life.
I am rather hoping the PS3 gets a party chat system just like the Vita has, I think it is quite sad that a HANDHELD system can have this but not the oh-so-powerful PS3. If xbox can add this system while the console is already out it obvioulsly doesnt need that HUGE of an overhaul

I am really beginning to wonder about Sony…these scheduled maintenances are becoming more and more…I wouldn’t mind an update that changed things up a bit but damn all they ever do is piss people off and take things away…this is why I’ve gravitated towards my iPad…sorry Sony this fanboy is about to bail…

Not a problem for me. Can’t wait to see what this significant update brings to the table. Sony has been doing a great job with the updates.
I hope this Maintenance addresses some Vita/PS3 issues like..
– My PS Vita trophies not being able to show up on my PS3.
– Opening up PS3 Library so I can play some PS3 games via Vita’s Remote Play.
– My friends on PS3 can’t see im Online through my Vita system.
-Receiving PSN messages. (We don’t get them straight away we get them after 15 minutes!)
-Vita save datas being attached to the Game data. (I accidentally deleted Uncharted and had to start all over again)
I’m up for maintenance if the following issues could be addressed:
1. Chat, friends and messaging should be one app on the Vita.
2. The Vita browser is crippled. I can’t even sign in on this site with it, I’m on my iPhone
3.Please, please fix PSN messaging for the Vita; it takes hours to get a message.
4. Please, please,please add Phantasy Star Portable 2 to the list of PSP games that WORK
5. Support for new PSOne classics: Bushido Blade, Rival Schools..they’re all on the JPN PSN

this should be announced earlier. We as a clan for playstation GT5 has events on this date, announced one week befor the event. so i can tell my members to get a new date for the race. But we are not important… thx sony once again!!

most of you do realize that during the day where you are is the middle of the night for others. why should it always be the euro players suffer with daytime downtime. do you yanks think you are the only one that play online.

Playing online is fun, but not a life ..
Why do you have to take away all of the network? OMG what am I going to do with out being able to be in the chat rooms???? My phone bill will be just a tag higher now. lol
Oh well, I’ll just be playing on xbox live like I always do. I’m sure glad I don’t have to depend on my Sony for all my constant gaming. Its there for a good blu ray player and maybe playing a game once a week. This is why even the limited Wii sold more untis then they did, let alone the mighty xbox. I almost bought the Vita, glad I didnt because of that little sly trick they pulled.
What’s with the people complaining about the frequency of maintenance? The last time we had a decent downtime the PSN crashed and that was quite awhile ago…all other maintenance times are actually quite short. Most places tend to do weekly maintenance for security purposes. Educate yourselves, it won’t hurt you to read up on things before asking pointless questions.
I understand the complaints, but a company that serves as many time zones as psn can’t hope to please everyone with scheduled maintenance times… just sayin

I live in Uk and this is in the middle of the night so thanks Sony!! and tbh whichever time they do the maintenance its going to affect some-one some-where, its a free service so stop complaining, its just over 12hrs, maybe go outside???
I hope they’ll make the Vita’s PSN store a little more organised, more like the PS3’s – I really dislike that you NEED a PS3 if you want to buy certain content like avatars, I have none, so either I get over to my mum’s and occupy my little bro’s PS3 (which is obviously loves) or I just don’t have access to certain features at all.. and it would also be nice if they added more PSP games to the Vita’s store. And added an option to show all Playstation Plus content in a category of it’s own. That would be a neat feature for the Media Go program as well.
I also demand PS2 classics for the Vita, it’s hardwaere should be powerful enough to support those, right? RIGHT? I’d really like to play some of them on my Vita.
Also, more remote play games please? :>
The real question is, who are they forcing to do work on the weekend lol? I’m sure those people would like to be at homr playing games too. :p
How about add the ability to play music for ANY game while online?
I hope sony will get things fixed during the maintenance like fixing freezing problems on wi-fi networks, possiably add more psp games to be downloadable and copyable from ps3 systems to ps vita systems as well. Also fix freezing problems for playstation home, anything to prevent ps3 systems to be freeze. no game systems does NOT deserve to be freeze at all ever, that’s for sure. Sony will do everything in their power to keep their network servers totally 100% secure and safe as well.

I can’t be too upset about this because PSN is a free service. But I do pay for my Plus membership. Maybe a day could be returned to my accounts credit for that. If not, oh well. But it is a shame they are taking PSN down during a first party developers double XP weekend (KZ3). I assume this update had to be done ASAP that is why their doing during such horrible hours for us weekend gamers. All in all, it is what it is.

Are there really that many people who can’t appreciate that PSN is used WORLD WIDE and that a ‘prime time’ in one place is not a ‘prime time’ in another place. I agree that the whole Sunday thing is a joke though.
I wouldn’t mind that it is going down… if the not for the fact I missed playing online for a week and a bit because of waiting for the sky broadband the other day xD.

Wow the whole entire day, on a Sunday? WTF Sony… why not on a monday in the morning when everyone is sleeping and Working. I can only play on weekends due to my busy schedule during the week. I dont understand why you would pick today but I hope once it’s done, The PSN is perfect and well worth the wait. Come one sony make us happy.
