PS Vita System Software Update (v1.65)

Update 4/3/2012: We identified a symptom that users can not play adhoc play in PSP titles if they download the system software, so we have taken down the system software temporarily. The system software will be available to download again soon.

Hi, everyone. The next PS Vita System Software Update (v1.65) will be released soon and will include the following minor enhancements:

  • A “Notification Alert” option will be added to Settings, so you can toggle alerts on or off
  • “After 10 minutes” will be added to the time options under Power Save Settings
  • An Arrow icon will now appear when PS Vita finds new activities in the LiveArea
  • Caps Lock will be supported in the On Screen Keyboard

Don’t forget: there are several ways to update the firmware on your PS Vita:

  • Select “System Update” under the “Settings” menu and download the firmware directly to your PS Vita over Wi-Fi.
  • Connect your PS Vita to a PS3 or a PC/Mac and update via Content Manager.

  • No mention on a fix for the fairly widespread near error ‘An error occurred’ which requires you to wipe your system to resolve it everytime you get the error? But hey we added caps lock! The priorities of the SONY firmware dev team is REALLY out of wack.

  • Does anyone else run into the following problem:

I turn off the bluetooth because I don’t use it. Sometimes however, it turns back on by itself. Does that happen to anyone else?

If so, Sony please fix that issue.

  • Adding support for PSP Demos would make a difference in terms of purchasing PSP games for Vita, at least for me. If i can try, then maybe i can buy?

    just sayin’

  • Please redo the UI to a more XMB style…or at least offer an option!

  • @47 you on sony’s dic* where have you been, we have waited months for browser improvements, ps1 support, and better psp compatibility, but we get caps lock options and adjusted settings that took over a month to make.

  • @50 yes, my blue tooth does randomly turn on at boot. I don’t understand guys, why not give us more information/heads up. This is a new handheld.. time to start fresh.

  • PSone support + Skype = Sale.

  • Isn’t adobe flash player 11.2 loading ready yet?

  • It would be cool if there was an option for the music app to have a timer so that it shuts off itself like what they had on the PSP

  • Have you guys not learned anything from past updates? They give us the fixes, patches, features that they want us to have. The icing on the cake comes on the next gen system not current. I swear sometimes I think Sony is democratic. At this rate based on what was promised, touted, the Vita is going to have a shorter life span then the OWN network. Just Saying…!

  • ^agreed.

  • Any chance there could be an update to fix NEAR? I don’t want to have to reset my system. Also improve the GPS. Small baby steps. Hope major things are in the works for E3.

  • (Correction) @Stickypower209 Agreed

  • heart_less_angel

Meh, I want ps1 classics and still waiting for them to announce a launch date for FFX ’cause I can’t wait!

  • Stop your crying yall I actually looked at the things it was gonna fix and thought “hey that’s actually some of my biggest complaints about Vita” good job Sony you read my mind the notification alert is really annoying when your trying to watch Netflix and it keeps buzzin up with friends go online and offline I like to disable it on my PS3 too thanks Sony!

  • 1) I’d like there to be a way to delete a game from your PSV without it erasing all your game/save data at the same time. Many times I’ll delete a game (for space reasons) and later want to go back and play it again. The way it is now, if you remove the game, it automatically removes all game/save data as well. That should be fixed.

    2) Fix near please!

    3) Also really miss the ability to see how much time is left on the battery life. I know that it varies depending on what you have running and where your settings are at, but that shouldn’t stop you from adding a battery life time remaining feature that can approximate the remaining battery time based on some of those variables. I also realize that battery life isn’t all that much from the start but I’d still like to see the remaining time. The psp usually only ever had about 4 hours and some change on it, even with a full charge.

    4) Thirdly, in the settings menu, there should be an option to turn off Bluetooth and not turn on by itself without changing a setting. It’s very frustrating knowing that it’s eating my batter life, and I didn’t turn it on, but randomly when I start up the vita it’s on, and I have to manually go and turn it off.

  • how did these things become so important to come first over all the other things that really need to be added or fixed on the psvita

  • Youtube
    Skype
    PS1
    HTML5
and unlock Final Heaven in the 4th core
    Do it NOW Sony

  • 5) Think someone else mentioned this, but I’d like to see it as well. An easier quicker more efficient way of viewing your available memory without having to go deep into the settings app. (Settings=>Start=>System=>System Information) Should create an icon for it that we can add to our home areas that we can view that info with the touch of a button. Also, within that area, allow us to be able to manage or at least view our game saves/data. Like the ability to see what game data/save we have, how much spave they’re taking, the ability to copy/delete/group them.

    6) Concerning the in-game music, for the games it works with, please add an option in the settings menu to turn off all in-game sound from a game when using custom music. It’s annoying listening to a song, then hearing specific sound effects in Hot Shots Golf, like clapping, ball strikes, cheering etc.
    7) Fix the browser to allow support for videos.
    8) Add cross-play function.
    9) Please release some solid RPG’s/Tactics/Strategy games for the Vita. These are my favorite genres for handhelds.
That’s all I have can think of at the moment. Thanks for putting out such a great product. I really am loving me PSVita more than I thought I would. Thanks Sony

  • Sorry if this post duplicates, but having trouble sending the second part of my comment.

  • i could care less about all the other crap thats being mentioned i just want the following

    – possible multi user login so my friends can use my vita w/o interupting my saved data
    – the ability to actually see and access my saved data — the things that tell you to go to settings obviously are useless because the menu is empty
    – psn presence on vita
    – ps vita trophy viewing on the ps3
    – ps vita banner’s dont show on the ps3 either

  • I’m more excited about the caps lock function than I should be…

  • Plz bring more PSP games support, id like to play valkyria chronicles 2 on Vita, also youtube app for vita??

  • Near hasn’t worked since the last maintenance, hopefully this fixes it.

  • @Destiny89, you can totally play Valkyria Chronicles 2 on the Vita, i’m doing it now, no hacks. You just need a PS3 to download it from PSN, and keep it in the bubble, then transfer it over. Just because it isn’t on that master list doesn’t mean it can’t be played. ~_^

  • Where is PSOne Classics support? Why can’t my friends on PS3 see me online when I’m on Vita?

  • And also, PlayStation Plus gifts for Vita. We deserve it =)

  • @MrRender: Thanks!! i did not know that.. going to do it right away.. thanks once again

  • Sincerely hope this isn’t the only update this month. Otherwise the update is basically trivial…

  • ReflectionistBaz

    update is out now

  • More Psp supported games for vita! and psOne classics <3

  • WHEN ARE WE GETTING FLASH AND YOUTUBE, WE NEED THE BASIC NECESSITY AS OUR MOBILE PHONE!

  • Update is now available. I launched Near and the music is no longer available? Can someone else verify that this is the case?

Also, the arrow icon is useless since your friends avatar icons appear whenever there are new activities in the LiveArea page. It would be nice to receive a notification when someone posts a comment on the activity.

  • @50, it only happened to me when I do a hard reset & select “rebuild.”

Here’s my list of req. fixes:

    Full PSP/Mini support
    Browser overhaul
Weekly release of new Apps (like the Nook Tablet)
Option to delete Sony Apps (I’ve already procured 100% of Welcome Park’s trophies… why should I keep it?)
Plus perks for current Plus members
Less “taps” to run an app.
As other have mentioned, creating & organizing folder support.

  • Just updated and NEAR WORKS!!!

  • fix the turn off Bluetooth,is always getting on again.
    ps one classics?
    More Minis Age of Zombies?
Enable the ability to connect an ps3 Arcade Stick or make one exclusive for the vita
Enable delete any icon we dont want to use like Near,Maps,Welcome Park etc.
make an ability to connect to the ps3 an play vita games on TV or an accessory to do that.
drop the psp games prices some of those game we already have it on psp.

  • This must be a minor update for this month I mean seriously why add caps lock when we already have a hard time accessing the browser, I hope next week or the following we see the REAL update we have waited for. Or I am going to start putting this on sale.

  • I hope this update keeps near™ from breaking again. It sucks that I lost 1100 miles and a stockpile of gifts because it broke the last time.

I’d also like to see game saves separated from from games, especially with space limitations as they are.

  • PS1 and PS2 Games for VITA?

    PS HOME for VITA?

  • Why isn’t Where Is My Heart? Mini available on the US Vita? If the game didn’t work at all, that is one thing but the dev said it is working and also working for UK accounts but they are just waiting on you guys. What the heck?!

  • Hidden Update on 1.65 FW

*When you install a App or a Game it will show up a installing bar now, before you get installing.
*New gamecard skins has been added for Vita
*Wifi speed is better now, I download Uncharted patch & it took less then 8 mins.

    More to come later.

  • Honestly I don’t give a crap about any of the apps of anything, I was just giddy at finally getting to play any PS game I want at anytime. Thats why I feel boned when this update comes out over a month later and I still only have a few decent vita games to play, a bunch of PSP games I never heard of, and virtually no actual platform games (including PS1 and PS2 as well as PS3) to play. Basically I payed 250 dollars to have my patience tested and my frustration peaked, makes me sad when I have to hope everyday for patapon 3 or Fate/Unlimited Cheat Codes to save me.

  • are you serious?

    Please Prioritise:

    – HTML5 support for the browser
(Since no flash support, this would be good to implement. Also, when at the bottom of a webpage, clicking on the top bar like on iOS will take you back to the top – it is very annoying to need to scroll all the way to the top if the page is very long, for example PSBlog articles with comments.)

    – PS+ minis freebies fix
(I have a few downloaded and waiting to be played on my vita)

    – Remote Play
(This was a pretty big feature that was demoed for the vita but there are hardly and decent games (if at all) that works with remote play. Even if it is to work only via WiFi for now, please implement! This is one big reason why I purchased the Vita because I since having a baby and crazy work hours – I can only have “bite size” gaming time these days so having to pick up the vita and play anytime around the house when I can is a great bonus and the TV can be free for others to use.)

  • I agree with LpSquall regarding Party, Group Messaging, and Friends all being one app. I also agree with him about receiving a notification when there has been activity in the Livearea.

Regarding Group Messaging, this needs some refinement. I like that I can essentially create a chat room, but everyone is locked in. Let me title the group message since it often is about something in particular. Let me add others after the chat started. More importantly, let myself and others remove themselves from the group messaging so they don’t continually receive unwanted new messages. All of this and the suggestion of making Party, Group Messaging, and Friends one app would make for one solid communication app.

The PS3 has the comment feature for each PSN user. Keep the feature exclusive to the PS3, but allow Vita users to see the comment. Expand the comment to two lines, 20 characters each. The Vita has the panel feature for each PSN user. Keep the feature exclusive to the Vita, but allow PS3 users to see the panel. Those with both a PS3 and a Vita would have a more fleshed-out PSN profile.

  • Less Priority but would be great if implemented:

    – Rearranging vita icon pages
(not just moving icons but moving the whole “Page” of icons)

    – Browse the full PS Store
(I’d like to make purchases for the PS3 on the vita and then later download it when I can turn it on. Being a PS+ subscriber, there are sometimes limited time offers to download discounted or free items and I don’t always have access to my PS3 for days or weeks.)

  • Oh and one other thing, DONT DISCONNECT from online MP when Pressing the PS button! (i like to check the time or the notifications.

  • What about cross game chat … -_-

  • Sigh… another mandatory do nothing update. Why aren’t these tiny updates bundled into an actual release with additional functionality? I mean, seriously, caps lock? I don’t want to spend time downloading this…

  • awesome

  • I’m sure this has been witnessed by someone other than myself, but those with Vitas are often shown in the PS3 friends list at the bottom, constantly updating. This should be fixed at whichever end holds the problem. Also, if someone is on their Vita, they should appear on the PS3 friends list the same as the Vita friends list. It works like this on the Vita.

Let us control our PS3’s with our Vitas, as if they were Bluetooth-enabled remote controls! It could be a PS3 Remote app that would do all that the DualShock controller or the existing Sony remote control does.

This might not even need an update, but include a Sony Reader app! The Sony Reader e-reader device has e-books for sale. Just allow us to browse these books in the PlayStation Store, and read them with a Sony Reader app. Then, do the same with the digital comic books available on the PSP, and bring back the Digital Comic Reader app.
