PS Vita System Software Update (v1.65)

Update 4/3/2012: We identified a symptom that users can not play adhoc play in PSP titles if they download the system software, so we have taken down the system software temporarily. The system software will be available to download again soon.

Hi, everyone. The next PS Vita System Software Update (v1.65) will be released soon and will include the following minor enhancements:

  • A “Notification Alert” option will be added to Settings, so you can toggle alerts on or off
  • “After 10 minutes” will be added to the time options under Power Save Settings
  • An Arrow icon will now appear when PS Vita finds new activities in the LiveArea
  • Caps Lock will be supported in the On Screen Keyboard

Don’t forget: there are several ways to update the firmware on your PS Vita:

  • Select “System Update” under the “Settings” menu and download the firmware directly to your PS Vita over Wi-Fi.
  • Connect your PS Vita to a PS3 or a PC/Mac and update via Content Manager.

  • I want to be optimistic and say Sony is probably working on it, but they take forever with the ps3 as well. So the people complaining about having stuff fixed probably shouldn’t hold their breath.

  • WOW! It’d be nice to play my UMD psp games, but you can’t $ony.
I haven’t noticed any issues with psp games after this update.
    Will not be updating again.
    lies, incomplete bugged, clearly useless

  • Two entire months and all you guys do is add a caps lock button and some stupid alerts?! You even goof on the patch and it makes AdHoc on the Vita non-existent.

Until you guys are finished with the much NEEDED patch, I am no longer buying anything until Sony fixes the Vita’s many problems.

This really makes me wish Microsoft had a handheld so that you guys at Sony had to keep us happy rather than just doing what you want, when you want.

  • Two entire months? I really hope you’re just over exaggerating. I agree with moistly everyone else though it would be nice if all they worked on getting all PSP, Minis, and PS1 classic to work. I’m sure that update shouldn’t too far from now.

  • PS Vita YouTube App or Flash/HTML5 support?

  • i was mostly hoping that i can play Spyro The Dragon Games On My Vita But That Is Hanging on by a thread because i found out by calling Sony a PS Vita Specialist told me that (i dont think he knows what he talking about) The Company That Create The Games Have To Change The Game Format From What The Game was released On PS3 Or PSP To A Format That Will Work On The Vita

  • @ 252 do you think they care that they’re losing out on your 40 dollar purchases …. they don’t

  • A number of questions…

What for those that have already downloaded the update and wish to play ad-hoc psp titles?

When will remote play & youtube be available?

    Final question ps1 support?

  • @TuttiCicero

How dare they release a product and do what they want with it. Those self-entitled jerks. LOL get out of here.

  • SEVENTH-INFINITE

His point is that if there was competition maybe they would listen to customers more. I just realized there is not ONE reply on this thread from them but other posts about the Tester and such has many replies or a t least a few

  • You do realize that there is plenty of competition for the Vita right? And its a wonder why there’s no replies. All these people making smart remarks and people demanding an answer to something that has already been addressed several times. They’re basically demanding to play nearly 15 year old games on a nearly 2 month old handheld, knowing that most of them have a PS3 right in front of them or run emulators on a PC.

  • @dilbig5 Heaven forbid the people want the features that were clearly advertised/marketed, not implemented, and seemingly ignored.

  • Hell communication sucks so bad here, that people had to find out why the update was pulled by going to the EU psblog.

  • @dilbig5 It was sarcasm. Obviously Sony is looking into stuff being fixed and added in but for the time being they’re giving us the smaller fixes they’ve finished along the way.

Anyways, I’m still not buying your products Sony, not until you add a bubble wrap app. to Vita PS Store.

  • #260 I do be-leave that the people that won’t these apts are probably 20 to you 1.Just because you 1 don’t care about them doesn’t mean everyone shouldn’t.Replaying older games on a hand held is the best way to do it.It’s the mane reason I bought my psp. That and Crisis Core. Which also isn’t available. If they ever git there act together it will be the reason I buy a vita.My ps3 is for the high dollar games.

  • Lol @20 – hopes it’s out of beta soon – best troll ever. That’s exactly how I felt as soon as I got the Vita. What is this, a beta console? My PSP had a better internet than this! There’s 1000 more settings on PSP. And the PSP games, and the PS1 games… I the only games I buy are PS1 games ok, so I were mad when I learnt it wouldn’t play it yet. ARRRG! Making a super small update like this feels like you guys are playing with us. Common, that’s just…

I’ve always prefered PlayStation to other consoles, but in the last 5 years I almost regret buying a PSP, a Vita and a PS3. Every single good thing you guys make, you remove it in the next console. What made PS2 genius ? Backward compatibility. What’s not on the PS3? What’s not on PSPGo? What’s not on Vita yet? Preblem?

  • @Sevyne

The only feature that was advertised that isn’t on the Vita yet is Skype. Sony decided to add PS1 support in a later patch. They never promised it as a launch feature. Most people that have a Vita probably have a PSP or a PS3. Use those systems for those games. Use a Vita for Vita games. It’s a dedicated gaming device, not an Ipad/phone.

  • @TuttiCicero

Sorry if I sounded like a jerk. But a small patch that fixes stuff already avaliable is ALOT better than a patch that adds new stuff with all the other current stuff still messed up. Hypothetically, It’s like if Sony said “We’ll give the PS Move ball thing a new color but the calibration problems will be fixed at a later time.”

    And bubble wrap App?

  • @fantasyplayer

If you have a PSP, play PSP games on it. If you have a PS3, play PS3 games on it. If you have both, play PS1 games on them. If you have both and a Vita, play PS1 games on the other ones and play Vita games on the Vita.

I would much rather have newer content then to be able to play 3 generation old games. I don”t know about most people but I buy a new gaming system to play new stuff, not buy a new system to play stuff I’ve been playing. But I see where you’re getting at. The would much rather get money for going backwards instead of getting little money for going forwards.

It’s also kinda weird when people say that want the interface to be changed back to the XMB or use the buttons to go thru the menu. They knew fully well that it is a touch screen based gaming device.

  • Actually many people got rid of their PSPs because Sony was supposed to be fully supporting it’s PSN PSP library over a series of short term updates to which they didn’t honor at all. They had one initial update for launch to get things rolling and then abandoned it completely it seems.

Let’s not forget the people who are new to Sony Portables, and Sony is missing a great opportunity to make money off those new Vita owners who may want to experience some of those PSP games now.

Then it’s quite hard to believe that it’s infinitely less powerful previous portable can actually do more than the Vita. Hell it can play the entire PS1 classics library and minis without any issue, so why is this a problem for the Vita? It’s just really confusing.

  • dont forget the ability to play multiple account’s games on one vita! dont forget that

  • Do keep in mind that I’m not saying/demanding these be brought to us this very minute (would be nice though), but these are things that they advertised even in commercials, interviews, etc. What I am saying is that there has been no word on any of this since launch, only dead silence. It just feels like one of those “If we don’t say anything long enough, maybe they’ll eventually forget about it” kind of things, and nobody is going to forget.

  • are we getting amazon instant video on the vita?????

  • I can’t wait till the homebrew community crack this baby open. It seems they are the only ones capable of giving the users the options/features we want. At this point my PS Move controller gets more action then my Vita, And I don’t mean for gaming…!!!

  • PS1 games on Vita is much needed.

  • and video recording time extencion!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That’s what I don’t understand about some people. They say sony did not say these things. But they did way in advance. Then at the last minuet they pulled it.Look up the past reviews for the year or so.

  • And by the way I don’t have to just play psp games on my psp.I can play psp,ps1,and a good many ps2 games on it.Poor vita.It must be envious.

  • So far this PS Vita has been an EPIC FAIL. Sony get your damn act straight. No wonder Nintendo wins in everything. I enjoy my 3DS way more.

  • what are you talking about … the Vita is everything BUT fail… I got mine beginning of March… i have nothing but bliss with it.. cos instead of whining I just enjoy the product and the games that are on it

  • uh… i just saw that there’s a FW 1.66 available?

    obvious troll is obvious.

  • I would like to know when the online status and now playing status will be visable on the ps3 I really dont like that it shows you offline with a blank space underneath also great to show that you on a vita also would be great if trophy compare on ps3 includs vita trophys as well sine vita includs ps3 trophies aand the latest trophy earned is shown as well if it was vita or ps3 on ps3

  • well I guess it’s clear from the last page alone the vita must have brought over the Micro$oft crowd

  • Boycott All Vita apps, games, everything, until something is done or publicaly anounced. Youtube? Skype?thats shown in videos from last year? what gives!!? Boycott,I have, complaints shouldve been heard and handled by now

  • Yeah clearly all of those posts from people who have Plus memberships are the “Microsoft crowd”. Gotta love how when people are unhappy with a service (or lack of) they must be Microsoft kids.

  • 9 times out of 10 they are because if you’ve had playstation for awhile you would know they do their best to fix problems you and everyone else here are wasting your time crying

  • BTW PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FIX THIS AUTO DIMMING BULL F ING S HIT WHEN I’M PLAYING A GAMES CUTSCENE!!!!!!! wHY!!!! lol

  • You waited for months for a new Vita update? You were expecting more PSP titles, a decent browser, PS1 compatibility, or other cool stuff? Well, how about caps lock support in the keyboard? It’s not enough for you? Come on, caps lock on a keyboard is pretty cool man… Ok then, how about an update that breaks adhoc game on PSP titles?

What, still not happy? Well, how about we cancel the update so that you really feel like you wasted time updating?

  • especially on this page that never gets a reply

    ARE YOU SERIOUS?

  • Glad to know I’m wasting my time on their website, maybe we are all just wasting are time with sony is what you mean.

  • on one website is says my vita browser is from 1996 lol and shows and old man lol

  • PS Vita FW update “1.66” is live…!

  • the update 1.66 is up people… go get it!

  • This new patched fixed my adhoc problems from the 1.65. THANKS! Never thought they will fix it in just a day.

  • updates up people 1.66 …. we know before Sony posts about it lol how about that ….

  • People have every right to b17ch about purchasing a product that doen’t function properly, much like their $100 wireless headset. they can’t even fix the hiss/feedback issue with those since Feb 7th, no way was I gonna drop $300 on a vita (obviously broken too!) when they can’t even fix a fkn $100 headset. and for those saying to them that only Skype was advertised and not there…get the fk outta here with your BS half-truths! yes, Skype was promised at launch, was it there? no. but they’re ALSO right, that the majority of PSP/Mini games would be able to play on the Vita, which it can’t.

  • here sony fanboys/consumer trolls, read this:

    blog.us.playstation.com/2012/02/16/ps-vita-the-ultimate-faq/
“Additionally, there will be a selection of 275 legacy PSP titles available to download from PlayStation Store at PS Vita’s launch and 117 PlayStation minis titles, with more legacy PSP and minis titles to come in the future. See the full list of currently supported PSP and minis titles here.”

full list according to Sony: blog.us.playstation.com/2012/02/09/how-to-download-psp-titles-to-ps-vita/

  • that seems like a rather large library that is inaccessable, so with maybe 25-35 games available for it, and nothing new within the last 2 weeks for the Vita, I’d say they got every reason to b17ch, considering these were promised, and have not been delivered on.
