My name is Matthew Harper, and I’m part of the recently-formed PlayStation Digital Platforms Community Management team. Our mission is to keep you better informed about everything that is going on in the wide world of the PlayStation Network, to make your voice heard within the company, and to ensure that you, the gamer, are at the heart of every development across PSN. Together, we will help guide the future of this platform.
I’m here today to let you know that we will be performing routine scheduled maintenance on the network on Monday, April 16th, starting at approximately 6:00 am PDT / 9:00 am EDT. This maintenance will last roughly 13 hours, concluding around 7:00pm PDT / 10:00 pm EDT. During much of this time, users won’t be able to access the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, Account Management or play online. PSN enabled websites will not be able to service users, including this one.
We will continue to provide as much information as we can regarding any future maintenance we need to schedule.
Keep your eyes on the PlayStation Twitter feed for a notice when PSN is fully back online. We look forward to gaming with you all when the maintenance is finished on Monday night.

@Stacie_Raven4 Sony has a record and movie company. Sony Music Entertainment and Sony Pictures Entertainment. This is why they are for SOPA. People are taking their movies and music for free and uploading it and making copies of the music and movies and selling it. It has nothing to do with playstation games. Hope this helps.

Still having trouble getting on home
If they made u pay a fee for every ps3 game u wanted to play on your PS vita.. it would be good for Sony but not so fun for us. The fee would be for copyright issues if there were any and it would be to pay the developer to update the game. But the fee would not cost too much. Less than the game itself costed initially.

I dont know why everyone gets so upset when this happens……I understand its frustrating when u cant play CoD or BF with ur friends but u know wat matt and his team are doin all this too prevent another incident happening with our personal info and CC info so people need too quit complaining about the maintenance issues and just enjoy that Sony is making it where all your info is safe and cant be touched. And as for letting us know about wat the maintenance is for, it could be a multitude of issues that they are resolving so they cant give us an exact answer on wat its for and why it just has too happen any huge company will tell u this Apple, Microsoft, even Dell. So stop the complaining and just enjoy that knowing ur still a gamer and ur info is safe from future hacks.

Anybody having an issue getting on battlefield 3 multiplayer? EA online fails to connect.
OK. Online it says that the maintenance is complete. I’m on Central time. It’s about 10:42 pm and I still can’t log into PSN and NetFlix. :(
Hmmm. There’s a system update available from 4/11. My system didn’t automatically update as it should. Had to search for the update and its currently downloading/installing. Obviously, its not my internet connection like the error messages keep suggesting. We’ll see how things go after the update completes.
Well, the update is complete now and I can log into PSN but, apparently there is an issue with NetFlix. Time to look into that now.
i also think sony needs to step their game up i mean since the psn went down due to hackers psn just keeps going under maintenance and also i would like to let sony know they need to find a way for us netflix, hulu plus, and amazon instant users to watch what we pay for without having to sign into playstation network… That i do think is alot of bull cause we pay out of our own pockets for the services and cant use them when psn goes under maintenance …

how about BackWards Compatibility for the ps3??? how about Skype for ps3? How about a TV channel? XGC? Able to see ur PS home Avatar next to ur game card? Able to see PSvita trophies on ps3? Able to see friends on the vita online on the ps3….
BTW… I first tried to view this article via the ‘Whats New’ link in the XMB. Came up with a certificate error. When I viewed the certificate it was issued by Twitter and issued to somegroup called USERTRUST. The entire data was long and such and there were more names in both the issuer and the issueey. Didnt see PSN, SCEA, SNE or anything that looked Sony related though. Ida posted it on the forums but Im tired of getting fanned and flamed when we take security concerns there.

this is the most pathetic company i have dealt with, 13+ hours of downtime and not tell anyone why, goes to show you how much they care about the customer. to Matthew Harper // Sr. Manager, PlayStation Digital Platforms, unless your here to actually post things that matter and to actually tell us what these updates are for you might as well quit giving this for an answer ( While I don’t have more details to share at this time regarding the downtime, I will certainly work to include more info in future posts.) is about as good as dirt. why am i a plus member if i wont even get what are updates for. would you Mr Matthew like me to tell you here eat this and not know what it is? did not think so…once again you keep shiiting on your loyal customers, maybe you should learn something from microsoft xbox 360 and apple, one has a great console which supports the players and is NEVER DOWN for 13 hours and apple has awesome customer service….
also dont think we should be thanking SONY for doing there job, they should be thanking us for still paying for a crappy service…

It’s good to see that in just a little more then 2 weeks you feel good changes
The way this company operates is abysmal. We as “consumers” are not here to worship the cult of sony out of blind devotion or act as the companies bottomless bank machine. This service IS paid for by us the gamers as part of the products & services we pay for. Therefore we expect it to operate in an efficient manner. This is clearly not happening. I thought I and others would’ve made it abundantly clear by now but it must be stated again. Continue to P**S off your customers and very soon you’ll have none left. All you have to do is look at the financial statements over the past few years and the losses in tHe BILLIONS stand out. Performace for your customers and your financial gain are irrevocably linked. But its painfully clear to all this company is mismanaged and will not correct itself in time. Best we can hope for now is at least the videogame division, whatever it calls itself this week, will be acquired by another large firm and operated properly for a change.
I thought that you wouldn’t be able to sign into playstation network at all. I was able to sign in on my ps3, but unable to go to playstation home, playstation store, and unable to sign into this website. What was the maintenance for?

i could not agree more with 281, they should start a new and fire all those incompetent losers and money hungry marons. ill tell you this much sony products are great but it serves them no good when there total dou che towards customer, i got a vita and im about to get rid of it, cause till this date nothing if fixed like always broken promises, i refuse to get anything sony after i got the vita, poor pi ss service, dam updates in which they dont tell me what its for, and im a PLUS member, so pretty much all im paying for is to get screwed and be held in the dark by a money hungry company thats does not know the principals of doing good business with consumers. i just hope this company falls and fails and at this rate ill be making the transition to another console manufacture, one that knows how to update and keep there players informed and not in the dark….

I see that online play and the such seems to have been restored but I still cannot access the playstation store. When I login I get a message saying an error has occurred. What’s even stranger is that if you go to the featured downloads that show up before you sign into the store (i.e. Tom Clancys future soldier beta or shank 2) you CAN access and download those games! Also noticed that the future soldier beta does not work. Shows no other players online at all.
On an unrelated note I’ve heard rumors of Sony making a pay to play network to help generate revinue? Is this cost aside from ps+? If so I hope there will be more incentive otherwise you may end up loosing money. I haven’t been a ps+ member long but have really enjoyed the benifits. But aside from that your free online play is a major factor of why I don’t own an Xbox. Maybe just charge a lil more for extra ps+ features? Ps++? Lol
