The Drop: Week of April 16th 2012 New Releases

Taking advantage of some of PS Vita’s unique hardware features and bringing exclusive content, Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention brings two new characters, new story chapters and quests, new bosses, and new unique GPS positioning functionality. Also on PS Vita as a PSN release, StarDrone Extreme puts you in the pilot seat of an always-in-motion spaceship through 60 diverse cosmic environments, where you’re tasked to survive, destroy, and collect items.

Dropping this week in the form of a full PS3 digital download is Dead Rising 2: Off The Record, which sees Willamette survivor and photojournalist Frank West take center stage as players experience a very different interpretation of events in this re-imagining of the Fortune City outbreak. Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

PlayStation Vita

Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention (Also on PSN) — Disgaea 3 is a sequel to Disgaea, a hardcore, turn-based strategy RPG. The game follows the exploits of Mao, the most honored student at Evil Academy, a school where the tardiest, laziest, and rudest demons receive the highest marks. The son of the school chairman, Mao has never once attended class nor opened a textbook. He longs to overthrow his father and assume the title of Overlord, which he decides he must become a hero to achieve. Join him on his zany adventure filled with witty dialogue, exciting events, and thrilling strategy battles.

PlayStation 3

Deadliest Warrior: Ancient Combat — Based on the Spike TV series that pits two of the most feared warriors civilization has ever known against each other, Deadliest Warrior: Ancient Combat combines two explosive Deadliest Warrior games — Deadliest Warrior: The Game and Deadliest Warrior: Legends — into one package, and also adds a huge arsenal of additional weapons and features found only on this Blu-ray disc.

  • Deadliest Warrior: The Game — Players can choose from history’s greatest warriors, equip them with signature weaponry, and go head to head against the greatest fighters that ever lived. Sever limbs, decapitate foes, and taunt your enemy’s lifeless corpse to build up ranking points and compete on a global scale to become “The Deadliest Warrior.” The game features five play modes, customizable warrior, and true-to-life action with interactive environments.
  • Deadliest Warrior: Legends — In Deadliest Warrior: Legends, take control of history’s greatest warriors and face the likes of Alexander the Great, Attila the Hun, Genghis Khan, Hannibal, Hernan Cortes, Shaka Zulu, Sun Tzu, Vlad the Impaler and William Wallace. With enhanced graphics and nine arenas, new fighting options like grapples, pushes, ring outs, feints, projectile targeting, and new final strikes will expand your tactical options. Also included is a new strategy game called Generals! Players take control of the Battlefield Simulator from the TV show and play one of the nine legendary warrior campaigns and unlock abilities that the actual warriors used to get an edge in battle.

PlayStation Network

NHL 12 (Full PS3 Game) — Experience a fresh new look and feel with all new gameplay presentation, and, for the first time ever, the chance to lace up outdoors under the lights in one of the biggest hockey events of the season, the NHL Winter Classic at Pittsburgh’s Heinz field. This year will be the first to see dynamic goalies in the game; players can knock the net off and make contact with goalies, knocking them down or out of position, as they crash the crease. Watch as goalies fight through screens to make awe-inspiring saves and leave the crease to trade punches with hated rivals during fights.

StarDrone Extreme (PS Vita) — StarDrone is a perfect blend of high-speed physics and pinball action, with strategic elements of break-out and object collection. But this is no walk amongst the stars, as the Drone is always in motion in the zero gravity environment, and the more stellar matter collected, the faster it travels until it is careening across the screen at light speed. Gather enough momentum and enter into Comet Rush where the Drone is impervious to all enemies and obstacles.

Dead Rising 2: Off The Record (Full PS3 Game) — Dead Rising 2: Off The Record sees Wilamette survivor and photojournalist Frank West take centre stage as players experience a very different interpretation of events in this, a reimagining of the Fortune City outbreak.

This alternate storyline means an-all new Dead Rising 2 experience; with Frank facing new missions, new enemies, new combo-weapons with which to defeat them plus a brand new Fortune City attraction to explore. Complimenting the new narrative and action of Dead Rising 2: Off The Record are enhancements to elements such as the save system and the co-op experience to deliver more satisfying gameplay.

The House of the Dead 4 — Slap in a clip and prepare for an onslaught of terror in The House of the Dead 4! Set three years after the second game, the fourth game in the shoot-em-up series featuring House of the Dead 2’s protagonist James Taylor as well as new hero Kate Green, working together to battle untold horrors from beyond. In addition to the run-and-gun-down-creatures gameplay players had come to know and love, the game fully supports PlayStation Move.

  • Skype for Vita?

  • i really wish you guys will be able to add more SNK tittles just like the ones that xbox live has ! like KOF 2002 UM and KOF 98 UM !! that will be awesome ..!!

  • can you confirm that One Piece: Pirate Warriors will be available on PSN Store? I prefer the digital download more than a hard copy.

  • At least us vita owners get a nice little something. Disgaea 3 always felt like a portable game to me.

  • are you gonna release God Of War 3 on PSN as download ?? i already own all of them on my PS3 hard drive and i think will be awesome to have all em in one place !! please answer !! please

  • Does this mean that Vita still doesn’t get any more PSP Classics at the PS Store? Almost all the games I bought over the years on my PSP still aren’t available on the Vita Store yet. I would really like to play some of the them since I gave my PSP to my younger brother. Also when will the Vita get the Comics store?

  • Enjoying Disgaea at this very moment =) Nisa shipped online orders it last week ^.^

  • Papo y Yo?????
    Skype for PS Vita?
    Flash Player or Html5?
    Youtube App for PS Vita?

  • Dudes… I mean I love the hardware of the PS Vita and I already got one and don’t regret it at all, I even got a 32 GB memory… but Sony really REALLY need to add some content for the Vita, I don’t know… maybe an update that allows you to play PS1 and PS2 games on the Vita (not via remote play) or that allows you to remove some icon apps from the interface… but most important, they need to add games really soon… I mean not so long ago they anounced a press conference that they promissed that they will announce A LOT of new games for the VITA, and what do I get? it was like 4 or 5 games… I was expecting a list… I already got Uncharted Golden Abyss and Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus, and that’s it, I don’t like anything else out there in the market… I mean I like Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, or Final Fantasy X HD,or BlazBlue and that, but man if those are comming out to PS3 as well why would I get them to Vita?, if (in my case) I can play them on a HD 3D 1080p screen with a home theater 5.1 DTS why would I wanted to play on the Vita?

  • And yet another dull week. Granted im excited for Disgaea but im not getting it from the psn. its getting shipped from the NIS website since it had a pre-order bonus. you cant get that from a digital game.

Anyway besides that nothing. it would have been a great time adding some psp games, but nope it looks like sony has no means to get it out or else they would be doing it now as not that much vita games are out. or at least give us information about ps1 games since they havent said anything in a long time.

  • Could you please allow us to organize our games on the PS3 more easily.

My list is becoming pretty large and it would be easier if I didn’t have to scroll through my list trying to find the game I want to play.

If you let us make folders like you can do with your videos it would help a lot with getting rid of the clutter. I know that I am not alone in this and that many people would be very grateful if you addressed this issue.

  • Been playing Disgaea 3 on the vita since yesterday thanks to the official Nis America online store :D

Great game, fantastic port, sooo much to do.

Just wrapped up chapter 1 after grinding quite a few characters to lvl 8 in 4 hours or so, good bye social life :(

  • I’m loving my Vita right now, but I hope they add in PSone support soon, in time for Legends of Dragoon at least. I want to play PS2 titles on the Vita too, I’m sure your software guys can do it.

This month is really bare in terms of content for the Vita, but next month is Jam packed! What’s up with that man?

  • @1

PS Store Person said they are planning on releasing skype at the end of the month.

  • “Taking advantage of the PS Vita’s hardware. . .” And yet there’s no Skype app yet. I don’t see how this is taking advantage of the hardware, though. Releasing a regular retail game is expected.

I’m sure things will improve though. It’s just been kind of disappointing since Vita launched.

  • What I’d really like to know is where the hell is Dr. Who: The Eternity Clock.

  • any ps plus discounts?

  • I love my new Vita, when I compare it to other devices, it’s better and less great in some aspect of the console.

    Pros:
-Gorgeous OLED screen.  16.7 million colors.
-Powerfull Multi-Core Processor.  Capable of multi-tasking.
-Amazing Crystal Clear quality sound coming from a Vita headset.
-Dual Analog sticks, well adjusted to be convenient to transport.
-Tons of innovating technologies.  Touchscreen/pad, Motion-sensors, AR camera at 120fps high speed video, multi connectivity B-T With-fi 3G.

It’s really capable of creating innovating gameplay never before seen on any platform.

    Cons:
-Internet connection is required for everything. (Do we need to be connected to transfer pictures/music/videos?)
-Speakers on the Vita are lackluster, they don’t provide an adequate sound power or quality. (Integrate Black Berry Playbook’s speakers, they are powerful, or double the sound capacity.)
-Camera’s MP picture quality is very low. 0.7 MP. (Frontal could have 5.0MP, without 120fps)
-Small buttons. (Some people complain about this, not me, I’m OK with them)
-Battery could be slightly better. (So far, it hasn’t dropped on me at my job listening to music/playing games)

    Overall Awesome Product.

  • @11 (ZERO_169)

What are you talking about? You CAN.
Just press triangle, scroll down to information and enter under album what you’d like to call it.

    Example my folders-
    Demos (11)
    PlayStation Classics (8)
    One Hour Trials (3)
    PSN Titles (37)
    PS3 Retail Titles (6)
    Remastered Classics (2)
    PS miniS (5)

    No clutter!

  • I didn’t get it, what’s the difference between “Deadliest Warrior: The Game” and “Deadliest Warrior: Legends”? It’s two different games, is that it? Thanks.

  • @19 (gm914)

    Are you serious!?!

Have you always been able to do this? because I was almost certain I couldn’t do this the last time I tried. Though I will admit that was awhile ago, I had just assumed they had not done anything yet, because I don’t remember hearing about it.

    Thanks for informing me though.

I now feel like an idiot…… lol

  • I never got around to purchasing DR2: OTR, i will probably download this down the road, how much will it cost on PSN?

  • I seriously should have known about this now that I went back and started making my albums. Cause I have had them put into the preset ps3, minis, psp, and playstation albums since they updated and allowed for that.

    I can’t believe that I missed this!

  • PS Vita Needs:
    1. More apps like Instagram, Youtube, Gmail, Pulse, Google Currents, Shazam.
    2. Sell the apps that i mention.
    3. Better comunications with developers to make ports of greats PSN games like Journey, Castle Crasher, NBA Jam,Flower, Shatter, Magic Orbz.
    4. Flash Player or Html5.
    5. More AAA titles like God of War, Infamous, Gran Turismo, Gran Theft Auto, Monster Hunter, Resident Evil and Call of Duty.
    6.Dynamic Themes or Live Wallpapers.

  • il pick up Deadliest Warrior: Ancient Combat. not first day, but hopefully some time soon after.

  • Will we ever get the PS3 Disgaea games on the PS Store as digital download?
I’d really love to have them.

  • @21 No problem lol.

You could even break down your PSN Titles to A-K & L-Z for even less clutter if your collection is still too big.

Makes the XMB look a lot sleeker having nicely organized Game Folders.

I highly recommend everyone spend 10 minutes cleaning it up.

Hey, you’ll probably find you could delete some stuff you never play for extra streamlin-iness and get some extra HDD space while your at it…

So that’s my good deed for the day. Now I can say-

    Boring Drop.

  • To all you complaining vita owners… Be patient.. burning skies and gravity rush will soon come to your rescue!

  • i want God Of War 3 on PSN

  • PSN Needs:
    1. New Interface.
    2. Sorting List.
    3. At least 2 Sudios exclusives for development of great arcades games.
    4. Subscription Payment Program to cover the expensive cost of the development of features and servers for the Next Gen.
    5. More Features like Cross Game Voice Chat, More Social Apps(Facebook Twitter G+), More Media Apps (Youtube,Vevo,) For the Next Gen.

  • So yeah, Sony made several PSP upgrade, if they are looking for improvement, I would start there.

Btw, Skype is now owned by Microsoft, if we don’t have it in the next 4 month, chances are, we’re never getting it.
And Microsoft is also a major Stockholder of Adobe Flash, each time there is a new update for flash player, PS3 gets the previous version, just enough so that you could never connect to your Hotmail account. Never!

I’ve never liked Hotmail, they always delete and deactivated your account after 1 month of not going on it.
Google is Smartphone/Tablet heavy, so Gmail is the best for Vita.

Microsoft also wanted to buy Yahoo, glad it didn’t work.

YouTube app is surely coming unless Microsoft buys that too.

  • So yeah, Sony made several PSP upgrade, if they are looking for improvements, I would start there.

I’ll tell you, Sony is loosing more than they think by having the Vita Online heavy to the point you can’t transfer anything without even when both PS3 and Vita are connected by USB Cable.

As far as I know, you could transfer data to your PSP no problem with the exception of games and movies*.

Thank God there’s an Offline Mode for Music Unlimited!
That’s a brilliant move on their part. And music don’t take that much space on your memory card.

Personally, I just hooked up the internet not too long ago, I was using my jobs Wi-Fi connection before.

  • @11, he is right. Older games could be put into folders via clicking triangle and hitting information. But now games just sit as a bubble on te XMB, and can only be copied or played. Ever since the update to only being able to transfer games to 2 psp and 2 ps3. Sony needs to fix this.

  • Pay Pal to buy content on the PSN.

  • Ughh. When will Bejeweled 3 make it to PSN?

  • @9
Why would you play it on a Vita?

Well, OLED 16.7 millions of colors on the go.
They aren’t all in 3D, but I get your point.

I’m waiting for Final Fantasy XIII Type-0, it’s not coming on the PSP, but it’ll come to the States on Vita.
    With enhancements for Vita.

The only game I wanted was Dissidia 012, that’s all.

The rest, well, they are good, but my main one was there, besides crisis core…

  • Hey…ummmmm…… will there be a PS Vita update so it has PSONE Classic support? Legend of Dragoon is coming out on may 1st and I’ve been waiting years. I don’t have a ps3 and I sold my psp slim and psp go to pay for my vita. PLEASE SUPPORT HE PSONE CLASSICS BY THEN!

  • @37
    Totally agree with you.

  • Sony should have the Box app.

    Not Xbox, it’s blue.
It’s a cloud based service that allows to user to store 50Gb of digital storage online, to free!

While, I wouldn’t agree to store Games and Videos Unlimited, you could store everything else like pictures, music and videos to/from PS Vita/PS3 or other devices.

Other useful apps could be added.

  • Will we have saints row 3 on PSN this week? On the preview I understood we would have.

  • Finally some games for the PS Vita! Can’t wait for June to come already… and the 19th for that new announcement ;)

  • Gravity Rush demo update?

  • The European PSN got Goldeneye Reloaded, Pure Chess on both PS3/Vita, Pursuit Force 2 and Stardrone Extreme last week.

    Well? What’s the hold up?

  • StarDrone Extreme for me. Will try Disgaea 3 after a price drop.

  • So i’ve had the FEB edition since launch including 6 games, not much of a complainer since my girl got it for me. However, I do think that there needs to be more of a selection when it comes to VITA games not psp, psone or even ps2.
That being said I went in to preorder Disgaea and Gravity Rush today at Gamestop and actually had the employees asking me if I thought the Vita was worth it LOL. Both of the employees working there couldn’t justify purchasing one with the current game selection… It was like i actually had to try and sell them on the product… only positive thing i got out of the whole experience is that they had the ENGLISH DEMO of Gravity Rush… which i think if they have it then the NA/EU should have it up on the store..

    Just my 2bits.

  • the Vita is still new, no consoles really have a solid library in the first 6 months. Wait until around x-mas time when everyone asks for a vita for christmas. this time next year we’ll have a lot of good games :]

  • Still no Doctor Who.

Can we get some more PSP Games for the Vita? It is taking way to long to add them to the Vita PSN store.

Can we get the PSP Yakuza games? just imports would be fine. Number 2 just came out a month ago.

  • PS One support for Vita SOON please!

  • @ ZERO_169

I used the Album Feature. I just put all the stuff in different albums. Just edit the Information and then sort.
If makes nice folders (album Folders) and just keep putting the Album name for each game. I put all my Resident Evil games in one Album, same with Final Fantasy, PSOne games, PSN games, Zombie Games, Full Digital Games. It took a long time, but it was worth it.

  • y y sony keep doing this on psn update they give us stuff wee dont want that bad. how about give ing us ps2 port ps one games skype app more Demos they do this ever week when they can find nun for the vita they try give us some add on in think that cut it
