The Drop: Week of April 30th 2012 New Releases

This week’s The Drop returns with a gangbuster lineup of games on PS Vita, PSN and PS3 — including PSone and PS2 classic gems. Mortal Kombat on PS Vita brings the full PS3 experience and uppercuts it straight into the palm of yours hands courtesy of developer NetherRealm Studios. Packed with the full content of the PS3 game, plus an exclusive PS Vita Challenge Tower, new retro character costumes, all four DLC kombatants, touchscreen fatalities and more.

Hardcore FPS fans will be served with a three main entrees of destruction with Battlefield 2: Bad Company, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops. Both Call of Duty titles come fully packaged with DLC content, and all three FPS juggernauts are PS3 digital downloads. On a special note, make sure to return tomorrow morning at 8 AM PST, and join God of War: Ascension game director Todd Papy, and our very own Jeff Rubenstein for a special live-stream event, straight from Sony Santa Monica Studios.

Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

PlayStation Vita

Mortal Kombat (Digital and GameCard) — After centuries of Mortal Kombat, Emperor Shao Kahn has finally defeated Raiden and his allies. Faced with extinction, Raiden has one last chance to save Earthrealm. To undo the Emperor’s victory, he must strike Shao Kahn where he is vulnerable…the Past.

Driven by an all new graphics engine, the fan favorite series is back and presented in more gory detail than ever before. Mortal Kombat (known as Mortal Kombat 9 by the fans) introduces a number of game-play features including tag team and the deepest story mode of any fighting game. Players can choose from an extensive lineup of the game’s iconic warriors and challenge their friends in traditional 1 vs. 1 matches, or take on several new game modes.

PlayStation 3

Sniper Elite V2 — With an emphasis on learning to handle the anticipation and pressure of the hunt, players are forced to use skill, patience and cunning to achieve their missions as they find themselves facing life-altering choices. The celebrated “bullet cam” from Sniper Elite makes its return and will be more gratifying than ever. Skillful shots are rewarded with a slow-motion sequence of the bullet running its full trajectory from barrel to target as well as featuring graphic detail of the effects of the bullet entering and destroying a target.

PlayStation Network

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 — The Bad Company crew again find themselves in the heart of the action, where they must use every weapon and vehicle at their disposal to survive. The action unfolds with unprecedented intensity, introducing a level of fervor to vehicular warfare never before experienced in a modern warfare action game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops w/ First Strike DLC — Hear the call of duty once again with this seventh entry in this blockbuster first-person shooter franchise. Call of Duty: Black Ops takes you deep behind enemy lines into the world of deniable operations as a member of an elite special forces unit engaging in covert warfare, classified operations, and explosive conflicts across the globe. With access to a variety of exclusive weaponry and equipment, your actions will tip the balance during the most dangerous time period mankind has ever known.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 w/ Stimulus Package — Return to today’s war front with the second chapter in the Modern Warfare series. Modern Warfare 2 continues the gripping and heart-racing action as players face off against a new threat dedicated to bringing the world to the brink of collapse. Playing as as Sgt. Gary “Roach” Sanderson, your international squad of elite soldiers battle through harrowing combat scenarios that range from snowy mountaintops in Siberia to the crowded streets of Rio de Janiero, Brazil and beyond, facing a terrorist force hellbent on redefining the boundary lines of today’s modern warfare.

Awesomenauts — Awesomenauts features the most awesome mercenaries in the galaxy in their fight for territorial supremacy. Awesomenauts brings Space frogs with mohawks, giant robots, and lots of other mighty aliens to the two-dimensional console battlefield. Combining classic platforming-action with modern online multiplayer functionality, the action-packed gameplay offers everything the 16-bit generation and modern gamers love.

Disney Universe — Disney Universe a fast-paced multiplayer action adventure game. In the game, players will experience non-stop action through a mix-up of worlds inspired by both animated and live action films from Disney.

Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time — Lead kooky inventor Doc Clock and his contemptuous robot, Sack, on their first awesome adventure through time to save Doc’s beloved cat from a prickly fate. Test your creative ability by devising ingenious inventions to overcome improbable obstacles. Then push your piloting skills to the limit as you attempt to steer your crazy contraptions through an insane world of spiky pits, icy chasms and erupting volcanoes, all dominated by technophobic hippy robots.

Anyone know what the quality on Max Payne is like? Is it HD? or just a plain port to ps3? I remember playing it on ps2 a while back, maybe 8 months or so ago on my hdtv, and I have to say it looked horrible. I hope the quality is better than it was on ps2. Also, is there trophies?
