PlayStation Store Update

Hi Everyone –
It’s a banner week for the PlayStation Store with the debut of great new titles, an out of this world PlayStation Plus update, the return of some treasured classics and much more.

PlayStation Store Update

Make your first stop this week with Awesomenauts. PlayStation Plus subscribers know from last week’s May preview that this title is free this month starting today! This colorfully action packed 2D online multiplayer battler with split-screen gameplay drops you in frantic online environments. Unlock loads of new abilities and characters for your arsenal, get in on the co-op action and storm the online arenas in Awesomenauts! Read up more on the game in PlayStation.Blog’s post with tons of info and screens from the game.

PlayStation Store Update

Then power up your PS Vita and download Mortal Kombat. Featuring the same over the top combat and fidelity from the console release, this version brings all-new PS Vita exclusive content (kontent?) like 150 new Challenge Tower missions that incorporate the DLC characters (like Freddy Krueger!), while also integrating the front touchscreen and accelerometer in ways that enhance the complete Mortal Kombat experience. Read more from the blog’s coverage on the PS Vita edition of Mortal Kombat.

This week also offers a healthy dose of the classics. In the PS2 Classics category, two great games are available to download in their original glory: Max Payne and Rayman 2 Revolution. Rockstar’s Max Payne follows a gritty noir tale infused with action packed gameplay. Check it out as a great way to get prepared for the imminent release of PS3 game Max Payne 3 on 5/15. Rayman 2 Revolution delivers an adventure taking gamers to a dream-like world in which they must prevent invasion from robot pirates. It’s fun for the whole family!

Old-school RPG fans won’t want to miss Legend of Dragoon arriving to the PS one Classics section as well. Featuring a classic JRPG story, riveting combat and a unique art style; relive this adventure or experience it for the first time starting today.

PlayStation Plus subscribers, this month’s content kicks off with a bang with the already mentioned free Awesomenauts, but also Trine 2 and two banner PS one classics with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Castlevania Chronicles. You can also now access the hotly anticipated PixelJunk 4am beta. Download the online viewer beta before anyone else and get in on this never before seen (or heard) experience. Don’t forget, PixelJunk 4am releases PSN-wide on 5/15.

There’s much more arriving this week, including PSN Game Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time, new PSN Minis, and all new PS3 Full Games like Battlefield: Bad Company 2! Make sure you check out all the details below and let us know your thoughts in the comments below and come back next week to see what’s new in the PlayStation Store, or join the discussion on the PlayStation Community forums in the Official PlayStation Store Update thread.

  • Sick update!! Thanks Sony!

  • super early, hello Grace. thanks!

  • This is seriously an OUTSTANDING update. Thanks for all the PlayStation Plus goodies!

  • Awesome update, I can’t wait to get that pixel junk 4am viewer. The SSX dlc also looks pretty good not to mention Awesomenauts and Trine 2!!

  • Nice update completely and early. Really wish i had money to get some stuff. Oh wait….I have PS+. Thanks passed me.

And those who dont have PS+ get awesomenauts to help that developer out

  • oh no!!! no new adds-on for ridge racer on vita !!!

  • holy mother of God!!! early update. Legend of Dragoon, here I come! :D

  • I don’t get it, why mention that you can get “early access” to the Ghost Recon Future Soldier Beta if your a PS+ member, and then never release it for non-PS+ users?

  • Hey Great Update !! But i got a question.. What gonna happend if the PS+ program ever the stop working, are we gonna lose all the games PS+ give us???

Hope i made my self clear, english is not my native lenguage !

    Thanks !

  • Wait time out… $40 for the Digital version of Mortal Kombat?

Not $5 cheaper? Great… the one advantage of digital downloads is gone. TO BEST BUY!!!

  • Can we please have it so the Store updates every Tuesday before 1 PST?? It would be very awesome!! I know Sony can do it!! I think I I speak for everyone when saying it’s better to have the updates early!!

  • When are the Sonic 4-2 avatars the EU store got coming to the US? Also on the subject of avatars are there any plans for MLB 12 The Show regarding teams with changed logos such as the Orioles, Blue Jays and Marlins?

  • Disturbed-Hitman

i have had resident evil opertaion raccoon city sense mar20th now still waiting on ECHO 6 DLC full storyline not half its been 3 weeks sense free map & two weeks sense last maps come out just stop playing waiting games with us i just wanna play the SPEC OPS full storyline…!!!!!

  • GT ACCADEMY Its On!

  • And this is why those that don’t have Ps plus need to get it you don’t know what your missing really!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • waiting for mortal kombat to download

  • Nice update!

…but c’mon, guys. The lack of PS1 support. No one knows anything about it, and you guys have flatly refused to even discuss it at all. If it isn’t coming, for the love of everything holy, please just come clean. In this case, bad news would be preferable to no news at all.

The way I see it, you have two choices: Tell us we arent getting PS1 support, or implement it NOW. Stringing everyone along is only further discrediting a company that doesn’t have the best record on keeping loyal fans happy.

  • great update.. free awesomenauts, free castlevania classics and the original Max Payne.. im a happy gamer.. thanks

  • Bought Mortal Kombat at retail today. I’m very impressed and am having a blast with it so far. So much to do and recommended for any fighting genre fan.

  • any chance of letting us know if there will be any more Dynasty Warriors avatars and Hyperdimension Neptunia avatars..

  • Woo hoo early update, and the kids just got home from school. I think I know what we’re going to do today Ferb.

  • Sweet I was hoping Trine 2 would get a sale for use normals. I’m in for 10 and still got the cash left over for Legend of Dragoon.

Thanks for not getting greedy with your classics Sony. Good price.

  • Will the Vita ever play PS2 classics? I’d buy them like crazy if it did.

  • Great update. Downloading pretty much all of the PS+ content. I was going to pick up Legend of Dragoon, but I think I’ll have to clear out my backlog a little more before I pick it up.

  • This is several early updates in a row. Who got a fire lit under their behind?

  • OMG Thank you Sony great day to be a PS Plus member those classic Castlevania games will be mine. Can’t wait to play Awesomenauts looks like fun :D Thanks again for an awesome drop this week.

  • Didn’t notice a discount with MKV, what’s up with that? I’m actually getting the Card-based game since it’s quite large but I’m just curious as to why there’s no DL discount since that has been the trend lately? Interesting…

  • This update is seriously great. First of all, it’s nice and early, the way all updates should be, and we get Awesomenauts and Trine 2 for free! When Trine 2 came out a while back, I held off buying it because I knew it would be on sale at some point, but now it’s free! Then there is Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which I inexplicably never bought, but now I am glad I didn’t. Then there is Legend of Dragoon. The only thing that would have made this update better is PS1 support on the Vita. But Alas! We wait. . .

  • The-Sigma-Alpha

Great update for PS+ owners imo. Can’t wait to play Awesomenauts. I already bought Trine 2 when it was first released but thats one hell of a deal for PS+ owners if you haven’t got it. Especially if your into platinuming your games. Game has 1 silver trophy and 11 golds plus the platinum.lol. I will try out that Pixel junk beta and Velocity also.

  • Trine 2! Great Update! I have a question. Has this happened to anyone else? I went to play a PS Plus game I hadn’t played in a while and it said it had expired so I had to go to the PS Store and download it again. I didn’t have to pay for it, but I had to download it all over again and the info at the bottom said it would expire again in 90 days.I looked at the info on a few of my other Plus games and they said the same thing, “expire in 30 days” etc, But a few of my other Plus games have no expiration date (Sam & Max Devil’s Playhouse). Why do some of the games have expiration dates?

    • This is something we’re ironing out on the back end, but that expiration date is basically the PS Plus expiration date at the time you downloaded the game. If you added more time to your Plus subscription, that date won’t get updated which is the issue we’re working on. If your Plus sub lapses, then you may have to download it again.

  • Yay early update. Downloading the sweet PSN+ stuff now. Time to run out to the bank, drop some money in the bank, and start playing up some Legend of Dragoon :D

  • Where are the Street Fighter X Tekken DLC items that were supposed to be released today?

  • Yay for another PSone Classic! Suikoden 2 please. Keep hope alive!

  • WaveLightning777

Bad news: No Tales of Graces DLC again. Namco, why do you neglect us? But, good news, LoD’s less expensive than I was expecting!

  • smoothboarder540

What happened to all of the Magic DotP DLC? I can’t seem to get an answer from anyone. Please respond.

  • So have the 4 AM performer beta codes gone out yet, because there’s nobody for me to watch right now. Unless that’s just a very small group?

  • I picked up MK earlier today, since there was no midnight release. I am glad I did now that it is full retail price. I just save 3GB off my memory card. Looks like I win after all.

Now if I could transfer Midway arcade treasures PSP over to the Vita that would make my day. I tried, and failed. Thanks for that Sony. No MK I, MK II, MK III on my Vita.

  • Any chance of Trine 1 having a discount? I never played that so it’s nice to have it on sale now that is T2 is being offered for free.

  • man this update is scary early and yay for Legend of Dragoon is finally here

  • I just turned on my PS3 and on a whim went to the PSN store. Imagine my surprise when I saw it was updated already! Great job here PSN staff! Downloading pretty much all the PSN+ stuff. Although I already own the Castlevania games I have wanted to buy Trine 2 for awhile now but held off and now it’s free. Then there’s Legend of Dragoon and the SSX DLC too. I’m glad I had the day off today.

  • WHAT!?!?!?! NO Street Fighter X Tekken DLC stuff… WTH!

And No NEW Soul Calibur 5 DLC stuff? WTH!

Aww come on SONY…. Get us NEW DLC for these games. The long wait each wait is way to long.

    :(

  • Why is Max Payne & Rayman 2 Revolution 4.1 and 4.2 GB? That’s some poor Disk Ripping but oh well better than nothing.

  • A guy could really get used to these early updates…I love being able to start downloading as soon as I get home from work! And thanks for all the awesome PS+ content!

Any chance I’ll be able to play these PS One Classics and Minis on my Vita any time soon? :-)

  • Well MK outs for Vita and while im not a fan its something. ill probably get it when its on sale. Glad to see LoD and will be getting it today! Still would be nice to get PSP titles, but it seems like you guys are done with that. And any news on Ps1 for Vita? it weird we havent gotten any information. is it going ok, is there a problem? the whole “soon” thing is over and done.

  • Mortal Kombat $40.00? And no demo?
Trine 2 is the best of this update

  • Does that mean Max Payne has trophy support??? 10 bucks? Hmmmmm….

    • PS2 Classics do not have Trophy support. They’re the original release only, no remakes; HD support, etc.

  • Wow, awesome early update! And early enough that I can grab everything I want before work. Great job this week, PS.Blog/Update Team!
Sadly, there’s not much for me to spend money on. I get tons of free stuff with PS+, and since I still own Legend of Dragoon on disc (and all 4 of mine work) I won’t be buying it digitally until I can play it on my Vita.
And the two price drops that interest me, Trine 2 and Zack Zero, I bought one of them new or else I’d be getting it free right now, and the other I bought a few weeks ago when it was 50% off, which was a better deal.
Ah well, guess I can’t really complain. An amazing update, the only downside of which is that I buy too much stuff then miss the sales…
Keep up the good work. :)

  • I thought the batman arkham city addon for harley quin was to be today
