Gravity Rush Launches Today on PS Vita – Get the Inside Scoop on DLC

To help celebrate today’s U.S. launch of Gravity Rush for PlayStation Vita, I’m excited to share this new trailer which will give you a taste of what the game has in store for you:

Gravity Rush Launches Today on PS Vita – Get the Inside Scoop on DLC

Gravity Rush was based on the inspiration I received from the artwork I saw in a magazine when I was a teenager. When I joined the industry, I thought that someday I would want to create a game with a world setting as vivid as that piece of art.

It’s been awhile since Japanese videogames have carried the clout that they used to in our industry. When I began my career, I was striving to find a way to break through. I thought about making a game based on the top global marketing strategies, major genres that were popular at that time, and even based on a character that would be widely accepted in the Western market. However, none of those concepts produced the results I desired, which is when I realized I was trying to put the cart in front of the horse.

After that, my ideas began to gain more momentum. The Gravity Rush project started with the simple idea of ‘making something based on my original vision,’ a game that has a brand new and exciting mechanic, gorgeous visuals, a captivating setting, fascinating storyline, and lovable characters. The goal was to deliver a game that contained each of these aspects. If you think of it, that’s what most games are targeting, and it makes sense to go back to the basics.

During the production process, we faced a few challenges and there were times when the game was misunderstood. However, thanks to the potential of PlayStation Vita, we were able to create something completely unique to the market. The path we took was similar to the character Kat’s, where she started off unsure of herself, but slowly gained the trust of her peers and became accepted and admired.

We’ve been receiving a tremendous amount of feedback from players since the title was released in Japan. I was both surprised and overwhelmed by the amount of comments I received. Most of the feedback was positive, and one comment that really touched me was: “It’s been awhile since I enjoyed a game like this that is truly innovative, and I believe that only a Japanese developer could have created such a work of art.” I really feel that my vision fit what the players wanted to see, and that I have truly achieved what I was striving for. That comment almost brought me to tears. This assured me that our thought process wasn’t wrong. I feel a state of fulfillment, and I’m sincerely hoping that everyone who plays the game will have a similar opinion.

Gravity Rush Military DLC

With Gravity Rush launching today in the U.S., I wanted to not only take this opportunity to reflect on my experience creating the game, but look to the future and share that we have a great lineup of DLC on the way. First, I’m pleased to announce that if you purchase Gravity Rush for the first week on PSN for $35.99, you’ll also receive the Military DLC Pack for free (this promotion will run from 6/12 to 6/19).

Gravity Rush Spy DLC

In addition, on June 26th we’ll be releasing the Spy Pack. For just $3.99 you’ll receive a Spy Costume as well as two exciting new Side Missions and two Challenge Missions to unlock.

Gravity Rush Maid DLC

Then, on July 10th, you’ll be able to download the Maid Pack. Priced at $3.99, the Maid Pack offers a stylish Maid Costume and two additional unlockable Side Missions and Challenge Missions.

If you miss out on the Military Pack during launch week, you will also have the opportunity to purchase it starting on July 24th for $3.99.

I hope that you enjoy experiencing Gravity Rush and these three DLC packs as much as the team and I enjoyed creating them!

Im REALLY trying to like my Vita.

I mean, I’ve put my 3DS aside since I’ve got my Vita (at launch, mind you).
Since then, I’ve bought almost every reasonably worthy game available. Honestly, I’ve been hooked only by 3 of them (Wipeout, Lumines and UMvsC).

I’ve been waiting for Gravity Rush for months. Why cant Sony do right even the most mundane stuff like updating a frigging store?

Cmon Sony! Dont make me wish Ive have bought Resident Evil Revelations instead.
You know, that 3DS title everyone have talked about? Ive skipped that title because I want to support YOUR titles.

Now I have to go to sleep. No Gravity Rush for me. Maybe tomorrow I will turn my 3DS on again and see whats going on.

(sorry for any english mistake, Im not a native speaker)

  • Gravity Rush launches *tomorrow* on PS Vita :)

  • See you next Tuesday Sony.

  • This is ridiculous. I wanted to actually download the game on the day it’s supposed to come out so I can hurry up and get it’s god awful download times out of the way and still have time left in the day to actually play the game.
I’m going to bed soon because I have work tomorrow morning. I’m very dissapointed. Is Sony always like this with updating the PSN Store? I’m a bit new to this but Steam, Xbox LIVE, and Nintendo almost never have these problems.

  • 10pm Central… Still no Update. This is bad… nex week the Update will be in Wednesday :'(

  • this makes valve time look good

  • Next time a big release is coming out, I hope you guys have you stuff together. I was really looking forward to Gravity Rush and wanted to support you guys in the digital space, but this is ridiculous.

You know we guys want instant gratification so why are you even having problems? This is the type of stuff you plan weeks ahead for.

Maybe now you will drop the stupid 5pm update crap and just update the store at midnight like every other service does. This is just another reason why people tout Xbox Live as the better service.

  • Hopefully, it uploads at 10 central so I can play in the morning.

  • (has anyone noticed that the millitary outfit has a red armband)

  • Y’all are some impatient folks. I assume that none of y’all have ever been part of something that had problems at a critical time. Stuff happens. It’s not the end of the world. Lighten up. Oh, and Gravity Rush is freakin’ awesome (ordered from Amazon with release-day delivery). ;)

  • If it reaches Midnight EST…..
I’m sorry Sony, you failed BIG TIME. Honestly, it’s making me think of using PSN. Ever.
In Fact, The only game I’ll get in ages is Gravity Rush anywase.
If it does reach Midnight, either EST or whatever, that’s a large problem.

  • @208 Yeah, of course you don’t care, you got the physical copy. I will continue to complain. If this was just an occasional thing, it wouldn’t be a problem, but it happens way too frequently.

  • way to frequently….
next tuesday it is…or friday for mgs then…smh
    ps1 classics NOW

  • Uh yeah, this is kind of usual with PSN. It gets updates at random times.

  • @212
But, it’s Almost MIDNIGHT. It’s 11:27. THAT is some serious problems, being about 6 hours over the “usual”.

  • i think its being updated now because i tried to enter the store and i get (an error has occurred) 80023017

  • Your PSN team is a mess. How difficult is it to load content early and offer it on time every week? It’s not like this is the first year of the store. It’s 2012! Get with it! This is annoying.

  • Hm…lets see.
    Currently waiting for:

    1) Gravity Rush
    2) MGS Collection

and oh yeah….Persona 4 from the JPN store which is set to release on 6/14 on the JPN Store……

If this same problem reoccurs during that moment, well…..I can’t say….

  • @214
    I just got in…
    We shall seee!
    =D

  • @217 nothin

  • This is so Sonyish. no answers, no info… apologies maybe?

  • I still hiting “New Releases” but nothing happens… :/

  • Grrrr…..11:37.
    Better by by Midnight!

  • Currently watching nba while waiting.

  • I have owned the Japanese copy of the game from its release date in Japan. Due to this fact I’m a little more lenient in terms of waiting for the U.S. release of Gravity Rush.

However, I must admit that this, by far has been the largest error I have experienced as far as digital gaming and this is from sole experience of having owned every console released after the game cube, thus including Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, 3DS, DS, DSi, PSP Go, PSP, as well as a gaming desktop (you get the idea).

I have received a stellar performance from the Xbox 360 and PS3 via their own online services. However, this is the first hiccup I have run into, and by far this is unacceptable for a company “once” known for their excellent services.

  • sony,
    ya got 20 minutes

  • I thought gravity rush was out today??? did it get delayed i don’t see anything on psn but the release date says the 12th of june…maybe it’s july 12th. ahh well i will check again in a month.

  • i live in colorado and i am praying i will get it around 10 please sony please

  • This is really pissing me off, I’m exhausted but want to be able to play this game tomorrow morning.

  • still nothin

  • Hey SCEA. How do I apply for a position on the PSN team? I have no experience and would be totally incompetent , but from the looks of your current team I guess that isn’t really a deal-breaker for you guys.

  • just bough my retail version! thanks for the DLC! hope more free DLC keeps rolling to keep the game alive as much as possible! I said day one and day one was it! I will support the Vita and the Awesome games it will release!

  • @224
It’s SUPPOSED to be released to do, But….You know, Sony is having some Probs.

  • i think i’m gonna spend my money on something else. not gonna wait.

  • I’m glad I’m not an avid PlayStation gamer. Seems like every time I even give something PlayStation-related a chance, something goes terribly wrong on Sony’s end.

  • same error 80023017 lmao…

  • OMGZ Gravity Rush is finally on teh psn store!

  • which is what i’d be saying when the update finally works

  • A individual purchases a console for a certain positive aspect of it.

In my case that would be the console exclusive [Hit] titles.
In this case, however the hit title has sunk a little from my point of view.
I acknowledge that I will have a change of heart and will not care when I have the digital copy at my disposal, but I will now think twice of purchasing digital copies off PSN no matter how lamentable it may be (for me).

  • @234
    Dangit. Made me check…….

  • been counting hours since i woke up

  • @239. Agreed.

  • @238
