Okami HD Coming Exclusively to PS3 With PlayStation Move Support This Fall

Tristan Corbett's Avatar Posted by Marketing Manager, Capcom

Okami HD for PS3

Grab your Celestial Brush! I’m pleased to confirm that this fall, gamers will be able to return to the land of Nippon in Okami HD, exclusively on the PS3 with PlayStation Move support. Initially released to critical acclaim on the PS2, Okami HD has the player take on the role of Amaterasu, the Japanese sun goddess, who inhabits the form of a wolf. After a tyrannical monster, Orochi, turns the world into a ruined, colorless wasteland, Amaterasu must use her magical abilities to restore the land to its previous glory and defeat the demon in charge of the destruction.

Okami HD brings Amaterasu’s epic tale to the PS3 with fully integrated HD graphics and widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio. I did not think it was possible to make the game look even better, but when I saw it for myself, I was a believer. The trademark sumi-e ink art style lends itself perfectly to HD, allowing players to experience more of the awe-inspiring world displayed in more detail than ever before. Check out the trailer above to see what I’m talking about!

To create an even more immersive experience, you can take your PlayStation Move motion controller and use it as your own Celestial Brush and naturally make brush strokes to defeat enemies and solve puzzles. That said, if you’re just in the mood to relive Okami in HD with the same controls as you had on your PS2, you can also play with your traditional PS3 controllers.

To top things off, we know everyone loves Trophies, so Okami HD will support PS3 Trophies, (including a Platinum) giving you new challenges to face and feats to complete. Okami HD will be available for download exclusively on PS3 in North America and Europe this fall.

Hey Tristan, thanks for bringing this over. I still have my original PS2 copy but I might be interested in this. I would however rather a Vita version.

What I really want to see is this: Please include an option that lets you turn off the “voices” when they talk. Please say that you will try and include that option. Please.

This makes me SO HAPPY!!!
I’m so going to get this! I thought it wasn’t possible.
This brings me hopes for sequels. Now…
WHY WASN’T IT REVEALED DURING THE E3 CONFERENCE? I would’ve peed my pants in excitement!

@49: … and now I realize you wrote Okamiden, not Okami. My post is no funny now. ='(
I need to brush up on my reading comprehension.

Yes!!! Thank you Sony!

Please tell us this will be getting a physical disc release — if not in North America, then somewhere in the world (Asia perhaps?).

The original PS2 “Okami” was an incredible game, and this updated version appears to up the ante for the PS3 era.

However, like many others, I despise download-only titles and avoid them like the plague. Hopefully Sony will be wise enough to cater to both markets with this title… (And yes, to add another voice to your recent survey, I’d happily pay slightly more for a physical disc release.)

Many thanks…

Unlike RE4, will this have a platinum trophy?

Wow about time! Looking forward to playing this with Move (are the cutscenes HD as well?).. also a new Okami game would go very well with the PS Vita.

I am glad Sony, now make it ‘transferable’ to my PSVita that I just bought! >:(

AbsoluteHu said:

I don’t usually get all that excited over game announcements, but I holy hell this is awesome. Day one purchase. Thank you so much and now we can hope for a true sequel!

SoulReaper69 said:

By transferable, I mean ‘Transfarring’, so if I buy one version of the game, I should be able to cross platforms with it, meaning be able to play on my PS3 while at home, and PSVita on the go, or when I don’t feel like getting out of bed.

AWESOME!!! I didn’t have the chance to play this game the first time around, so I am definitely buying this! Other than the hd visuals, trophies, and PS Move support, is there anything new? Or is it too soon to ask?

This makes me so happy. I couldn’t be more excited, because I actually missed this on PS2 and Wii. Which, is surprising because I absolutely love the genre, the style, etc. I’m behind by about 20 games, but I’ve been wanting an excuse to play this so when it hits PSN, it will absolutely be hitting the top of my priority list!

Some ask why HD? This game is exactly why! New gamers will certainly enjoy this and those who may have missed the first time around as well.

Excellent news. Let me make one suggestion:

Okami HD on blu-ray disc
steelbook case
Okami soundtrack
Okami dynamic theme
Okami avatars

Sell it for $10 more than the digital version, make a lot of people very, very happy.

(NOTE: A steelbook case isn’t “necessary”, but it’d be very cool. Also, the dynamic theme could go from “dark world” to “rejuvinated world”, or it could simply be a nice scene with cherry blossoms falling.)

Regardless, very happy to see one of my favorite games get the HD treatment.

I’m agreeing with most comments here, that this would rule supreme on the Vita. Is there any chance of a Vita release after the PS3 release?

Falaut said:

June 19th, 8:03 pm

Thank you thank you thank you. I actually suggested this on the blog quite awhile ago, I’m so glad its happening. Now lets give this a try ;)…

You know what would be awesome, and Okami remaster for VITA so you can do all the painting with the touchscreen.
