Journey Collector’s Edition Blu-ray Coming to Stores August 28th

Journey, thatgamecompany’s most recent and largest project to date, represents three years of intense collaboration and growth for our small studio. As such, in conjunction with Santa Monica Studio, it is an honor to announce the Journey Collector’s Edition, launching for the PS3. This is our first disc-based release, and will be available at retail outlets across North America for just $29.99 on August 28.

Journey: Collector's Edition for PS3

From the simplicity of flOw, to the beauty of Flower, to the awe of Journey, this special Blu-Ray bundle features thatgamecompany’s three award-winning PlayStation Network-exclusive titles, paired with exclusive new content and previously released digital content.

Journey: Collector's Edition for PS3 (Flower)Journey: Collector's Edition for PS3 (flOw)

The complete set of bonus flOw, Flower, and Journey content includes:

  • Thirty-minute behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of Journey
  • Creator Commentary playthroughs of all three games
  • Three exclusive mini-games from thatgamecompany
  • Concept art and screenshot galleries for all three games
  • Original soundtracks for all three games
  • PS3 dynamic themes and wallpapers
  • PSN avatars including eight exclusive new Journey avatars never released before
  • Official game trailers and developer diary videos
  • Reversible cover art

We are particularly excited about the Creator Commentary play-throughs of all three games, because we get to share with fans insights about flOw, Flower and Journey straight from the minds of the designers, artists, engineers and composers who worked together to make these games so special.

Journey: Collector's Edition for PS3

Another really great treat for fans featured on the disc are the three exclusive mini-games. These were born out of a tradition we have here at thatgamecompany: the 24hr Game Jam. As the name implies, each of these games was created start to finish in just 24 hours. For the first time ever, thatgamecompany’s mini-games Gravediggers, Duke War!!, and Nostril Shot, will be available to play outside of our studio. We share these extra treats as a “thank you” to our players for supporting us over the years. In case the names didn’t already give it away, these mini-games showcase thatgamecompany’s lighter side with screwball competitive multiplayer action. We hope you sincerely enjoy their silliness as much as we have.

Please enjoy the official trailer for Journey Collector’s Edition, which highlights what’s in store for fans when thatgamecompany’s first Blu-ray disc release hits stores on August 28.

  • 29.99? AWESOME! I will be getting it at that price. BTW the art box looks great! :)

  • Excellent package. Just curious, will the disc release feature new trophy sets or same trophies as the PSN releases?

  • UGH. Might do want. But, I have much of what’s on PSN already. Can we “digitally upgrade” (packaging aside), haha?

Actually, how would this work, were it to come to PS3 Full Games?

  • All that *and* one month of PlayStation Plus?? You’re too good to us. *bow*

I do have the Flower + soundtrack + dynamic theme, but this will still be a very worthwhile purchase.

Any chance you could pack in a voucher for the PSP flOw too? Eh? Yeah? (Okay, I’m being greedy…)

  • (figured I’d jump in as typical “didn’t read the damn article before I post” blog visitor. Hopefully heading off the inevitable…)

    KeWl!!!!!

    HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?!?!?!?

    WHEN DOES IT COME OUT?!?!?!

WILL IT HAVE REVERISBLE COVER ART?!?!?!?!?

CAN YOU TEACH ME TO READ?!?!?!?

    /snark

  • This may be the closest thing we get to a Criterion collection edition of a game. Thank you.

  • Well I very much like this pack. But I have a question / complaint.
Will the extra content I will be available to users more loyal than we did with these great shots from day 1? I would not mind buying them both and I think most fair and appropriate. At the end of the games are in digital and I like them so. Would consider more fitting that the company should of giving this content to users in the game that we have them in digital.

Hopefully give us an alternative to acquire the material for digital via which we have already enjoyed, and we want to continue doing so, these wonderful games.

  • I already own all three games but I WILL be getting this.

But I have a question, though. I guess the dynamic themes, wallpapers and avatars will be given to us through a download voucher. But will the soundtracks be on physical CDs or will we get a PSN voucher to download them from the Store, too?

  • Quick question: will the digital versions’ save files work with this? I’ll likely buy it anyway, but it would be cool if they worked.

  • I’m assuming… the soundtrack is ONLY playable from PS3…?

  • Question, are the 3 minis exclusive to the bundle or will we see them released later on in the PSN?

  • This is horrible. I bought all of these on release day and I demand…

…bah, who am I kidding? I’m in for one! See you August 28th. :D

  • Jenova, thanks so much for this update. I had heard some things about this about a year and a half ago, so I was wondering if the focus had changed. Glad to see it’s not only seeing a release, but is packed full of every bit of extra content I had put on my wish list.

That said, I’ve purchased the digital games but would love to pick this up anyhow simply for all the extra content, and to support one of my favorite studios in the industry. My concern, however, is in the install method. Are these small enough that we’re able to play them all from the disc, or do they require the installer files and are loaded directly to the PS3’s HDD?

Thanks so much for your time and passion…we love these games, the team and the copious talent that has been involved with their production.

  • dammit, now I have to buy this even though I already own Flower and Journey xD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I‘m assuming this will include Flow for PS3 only…I‘ve already got all of the games and soundtracks in digital format but would love to have them on disk anyways.

Will the DLC be provided via a PSN voucher individually or all-in-one.?I‘d love to gift the soundtracks and themes I already have but would like to keep the avatars and things that I don‘t already own.

Could the voucher work as the “welcome back program“ did (where you could choose amongst some of the downloads)? I would rather be able to get the PSP version of Flow as I already own all 3 soundtracks and the Dynamic themes for Journey and Flower.

  • This is quite the bundle. Thanks for putting together a package like this for us. It is an absolute no-brainer for people that don’t own any of these games yet, but I think you’ll also convince a good amount of fans to double dip.

  • Fantastic! ♥

  • Will the extra content be made available to loyal fans who purchased these 3 games on day-one through the PSN?

  • So wait let me get this straight so all 3 full games will be on that if so and i’m reading that rite then there was a good reason waiting..

  • Well, this is an easy impulse purchase! LOVE thatgamecompany!

  • Will buy, disagree that the box art looks good. I understand you want to show that Flow and Flower are included, but the focus should remain Journey. Too many uses of the word/symbol Playstation and it’s derivatives. You have a PS logo (remove it, put it on the spine), you have a PS3 branding (keep that, maybe add in the only on part before the PS3), you have a psn logo followed by Playstation network (remove Playstation network wording and either put PSN under the logo, or redesign logo so people get it), the only on Pl/aystation tab should be removed or altered as above. If you are going to advertise all three games on the cover than the inclusion blurb on the front is unnecessary in my opinion, put it on the back. It would be great if all cover art was free of all logos/ratings/text and all the info could go on the back (probably not going to happen, but the fact remains that a lot of talent creativity has been created with these games and the addition of these descriptors if you will is a bit disheartening).

Or there is the other possibility to create new artwork that seamlessly blends the three titles together, like that one piece of fan art that combines Journey and Flower and looks stunning.

  • Any word if the avatars will be release on psn for those who already owned everything but don’t own the avatars?

  • I hope they put an alternate cover in the inside of the sleeve. I love when games have these!

  • Hey, what about Cloud?

Thanks for the info though, been waiting for details on this since E3.

  • This is great, but can we get an artbook with that concept art in it? there’s something really special about being able to see the artwork on paper, shown off like it deserves to be.

  • I am confused by this. Seems to be that this package is being released, ostensibly, for the “fans.” But, wouldn’t thatgamecompany’s fans already own these games? $30 seems pretty steep, then, for the scant exclusives also offered here–especially when I cannot gift my existing digital copies of these games to a friend or family member to ameliorate the cost of the double-dip.

  • You guys also said that we would get a FREE month of PS Plus with the Limited Edition of Starhawk, but we never got that. Any comments?

  • @1 & @2- my thoughts exactly! You guys have great taste!

    @6, derp! Intelligent comparison spotted!

I own Flower, I’m not too sure about Flow- the objective looks abit vague to me. Nevertheless, heard it’s promising. Never had time for Journey; but that will change come August!

    Best of luck, TGC!

  • Is it wrong that I want to buy this despite already having the PSN versions?
TGC really deserves an extra investment.

  • I already own all three or I’d be all for this!

  • Umm this is kind of unfair. I was a day one purchaser of Journey and I would have easily grabbed a collectors edition for the sound track which btw I also bought and the added making of materials. Could you at least make this available with the Journey specific items available to those of us who early adopted. I can’t justify paying for disc that contains games and soundtracks I already own in addition to content that I would have loved to have had.

To add insult to injury I’m already a PlayStation Plus member, look to the left please. Are you subsequently telling me that this 50 dollars a year I’m paying doesn’t at the very least allow me exclusive access to all of those materials if I desire them.

  • i already got journey, it was fun and nice and the sand was beautiful but i wasnt as touched as many other ppl. great music to but thats realy all for me. flower demo was very wack to me, flow looks slow. this looks GREATT the ppl who dont got any of these games. i want to try those 3 mini games i must say. welpp, back to Shank 2 i go.

  • Is the sidetone fix for the stereo headset ever coming? Its been near three months since you announced the fix, and four weeks since it was announced it would be coming “very soon”. I was very disappointed when I bought this headset and heard all of the noise around me. The only reason I didn’t return it was because I saw there was going to be a fix for it. Had I know in was going to take so long, I would have retuned it. Unless this firmware includes a ton of new features it cannot possibly take this long to fix. If someone was to jailbreak the current firmware Sony would have a fix out in five minutes.

  • Wish Sony bought that game company, you know ThatGameCompany. lol

No more exclusives from them. :(

  • man i was hoping for something better. already have the other two.
still waiting for journey to go on sale or an extra discount for ps+ members

  • PLEASE bring this out in the UK/Europe to! :P :P :P

  • Already own the digital copy and soundtrack. I’m still going to get this due to the massive level of amazingness this game holds.

  • Glad I have waited to buy Journey and Flower. I love Flow, but having on BluRay will save me the whole 90MB’s on my HDD…

  • I’m also guessing the soundtrack would be installable onto the PS3, which from there you can copy it to a USB stick, just like the other soundtracks on PSN.

  • Does this mean the Digital Version of Journey will be getting a price drop???

  • Wow this is amazing it’s outrageous!

  • Never bought or played these games, they intrigued me, but there were other games on the backlog to purchase. But with this, I might just pre-order it as soon as I can!

  • Wow, that’s really what a collector edition should be. I can’t wait for the release!

  • Looks like a great package, I own all these but this looks like it’d be worth the double-dip for all the extras. However, since this is marking the end of the TGC’s first chapter as it moves on to whatever’s next, I would like to see it two more things that would make it complete as I could imagine:

    — PSN version of Cloud (I know that game is rough and might be tough to convert, but it’s quite captivating)
    — PSP version of Fl0w voucher (I know another studio re-developed it but was a fitting version and the only way right now to get that TGC experience away from a console. Side-note, will the Fl0w Expansion Pack be included as part of the disc release of Fl0w?)

Also, for those of us with the digital download versions, it’d be cool to have the extras (soundtrack, documentary, commentary, minigames) available as an app purchase instead of having to rebuy everything as a disc. There’s certainly enough in this package to make it a worthwhile digital offer as well as a boxed product.

  • Jenova, I am a fan so I have all of your games digitally but I will buy this. Can’t find it on Amazon yet. I guess this is a parting gift, now that you’ve bought your freedom. Best wishes to one of the true artistic geniuses in the industry.

@5: very funny post. Funny because it’s true.

  • AWESOME day one for me :)

  • very cool bundle.

I already have all three games and they are great. Not sure I will get the disc, but if you haven’t played these games yet, you really can’t go wrong for $30.

    highly recommended!!

  • I already have all 3 games, but it sounds like a good deal for the extras alone, plus it’s a physical release and that’s always a plus in my book.

  • Oh god YES!
