PlayStation Store Update

Hi Everyone –
We kick things off this week with two of the biggest PlayStation 3 games of all time are making their way to digital release for the first time. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves are now available to download! Pick up both games as a bundle for $39.99, or purchase individually at $29.99.

blogheader_spiderman_150_062612

The Amazing Spider-man hits theaters next week (and from the sounds of some early reviews, it sounds awesome) but the game is available for download today in the PS3 Full Games category. Navigate through the Manhattan skyline with the return of the fan-favorite, free-roaming, web-slinging gameplay. With classic villains, visceral combat choices, and an all-new epilogue story to the movie, this is a release no super hero fan should miss.

Resident Evil fans have a lot to look forward to with Resident Evil 6, but to satiate the hunger for zombie action, you may want to check out Resident Evil: Chronicles HD. This bundle of two amazing retellings of the early Resident Evil storylines features Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (previously not available on PlayStation consoles), which have been remastered for the PlayStation 3 with HD graphics and PlayStation Move compatibility. It’s available at a discounted price over the retail release and an even greater discount with a PlayStation Plus membership.

PS Vita sees more great functionality with the YouTube App now available for download. With the YouTube application on PS Vita, you can watch millions of YouTube videos on PS Vita’s stunning 5” OLED screen. And with 3G, you can watch your favorite content – from comedy to gaming tips to viral videos – while you’re at home or on-the-go.

GT DLC

The online portion of GT Academy 2012 may have ended, but that doesn’t mean you should stop playing Gran Turismo 5! Arriving this week are two new exciting DLCs – The Twin Ring Motegi Pack and Scion FR-S 12. Check out the dedicated post for more info on this content.

UnchainedBlades

PSP owners take note; there’s some great content this week including Unchained Blades. Featuring the work of developers from legendary games like Grandia and the Lunar series, this JRPG dungeon crawler boasts a unique combat system where teams of four characters battle and unchain monsters to unleash devastating abilities.

PlayStation Plus subscribers get some great updates today as well. You may have seen the news that the Journey Collector’s Edition is coming August 28th. While this amazing package will feature a TON of exclusive content (in game commentary, revealing documentaries, and more) PlayStation Plus members can now snag the core PSN Game Journey with a 20% discount for $11.99. You’ll also see the aforementioned Plus discount on new release Resident Evil: Chronicles HD, for 10% off, as well as 20 free Virtua Fighter 5 avatars to sport on your PSN profile. Note that next week we’ll be talking about the Plus outlook for July, so stay tuned.

  • Is there any chance the PSP versions of Final Fantasy I & II will ever come out on PSN? I don’t know why North America’s PSN doesn’t have them, but they’re up on the Japanese and European PSNs.

    Thanks!

  • when is hulu coming to the vita?

  • Awesome update!

Are there any plans to make more PSP games become playable on Vita?

THE ABSOLUTE HIGHEST PRIORITY two are some legacy titles; Brave Story and Phantasy Star Portable 2.

I know they’ve been removed from the PSN, but people who already paid good money for them can download them still… and are cut off from doing anything with them if we upgraded from PSP to the wonderful new PSVita.

I’ve seen video proof that Phantasy Star Portable 2 works flawlessly on the Vita (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQG__C4fUI0)… so with it out in the open that it isn’t a technical issue, isn’t it only fair that those of us who paid good money can play it on our Vitas?

I’d definitely love to continue getting my $39.99+tax worth since I wasn’t one of the lucky few that got it for $14.99

  • @ Morgan Haro

    Awesome! Thank you!

  • Europe is in WEEK THREE of its amazing Vita sale, but expect Morgan to once again ignore this comment and avoid why US users have had ZERO Vita sales.

  • SONY WERES THE DOCTOR WHO GAME FOR THE VITA?
WEVE BEEN WAITING FOR A LONG TIME.

  • Hey Morgan, the Journey sale for PS+ doesn’t show up for me. Even though I already own it, it doesn’t have any sort of special PS+ price for to show that’s on sale like it should. I had to use an alternate US account for it to finally show up, so this seems like a bug that you might want to alert the PS Store team about. I know it’s not a big deal, but anything that’s on sale should show up as being on sale regardless of whether I own it or not. I bought it while it was on sale a week early for PS+ people if that helps pinpoint the issue.

It seems to be like the weird bug that causes Wipeout HD to not show up outside of a search and even then, I can’t look at the game’s page in the store despite owning it and the Fury add-on. I shouldn’t have to dig through my download history to get things that haven’t been taken down from the PS Store.

  • Why is it that after five years of being able to use my credit card on the PSN store, that my credit card details are all of a sudden ‘invalid’. I know I’m not the only one with this problem and customer service suggesting I purchase PSN cards is downright ridiculous. Not too bright to try to sell me on a Vita during the call either – if I can’t purchase anything digitally, why the hell would I even consider one?

Until this gets fixed, the PSN store will unfortunately not be seeing any of my money.

  • Another week no Vita sales while Europe has had major sales on PSN, RETAIL, and PSP vita games

  • PS Vita Games Discount o Freebies any time soon?

  • The lack of Vita-compatible new releases of PSP games is kinda disconcerting. Did we literally hop on the ‘all digital PSP titles will be backwards compatible’ bandwagon too early and get burned for it?

  • May I ask why Unchained Blades was allowed to come out with out Vita certification complete? It is frustrating enough that not all PSP titles previously released are on the PSN for download…but a NEW title? (Even if for NA territories) Seriously, why?

  • Anyone who complains about PS1 games really should look into getting a Japanese PSN account, getting points for it isn’t hard either.

It has Rival Schools, that alone should justify giving it a chance.

  • Pinball Arcade is listed twice for both DLC. Both are the download for the Vita. PS3 version is missing. Store is full of errors.

    PS3 Add-ons-missing

THE PINBALL ARCADE ADD-ON 2: CIRQUS VOLTAIRE AND FUNHOUSE ($4.99)
Add-on Pack 2 for the Pinball Arcade: Cirqus Coltaire and funhouse. Purchasing this content entitles you to both the PS3 and PS Vita versions!

  • I bought the new Pinball Arcade DLC packs, each downloaded a 100kb keyfile for the PS3. When I load the game, the new tables aren’t there. I want to play what I just spent $10 on!

  • Not to be overly picky, but the Elevator Action HD add-on is listed as $1.99, with the second line in the description stating “This completely free update”.

Other then that looks like a great update, can’t wait to see what’s coming to Plus in July for Instant Game Collection.

  • You knew Vita releases would be slim the first year so instead of stepping up PSP compatibility to make up for it, you just sit on your hands. Still waiting for that 2nd round of PSP games for Vita that was promised months ago. LOL!

  • you forgot to add on the list the youtube app for vita

  • Thanks for the update Morgan, much appreciated!

Two more weeks until Rainbow Moon, really looking forward to that game. The 12-game PS+ collection, along with July’s perks next week, it’s a long satisfying gaming summer!

Keep up the great work! =)

  • Morgan, not sure if you read or post replies to page 3 comments, but I would like to state my concern with the PlayStation Plus setup.

When the announcement came about the instant game collection, I was pretty pumped. Getting 12 full fledged games is sweet, no two ways about that! But having them all drop in one update, then have very little to no free PS+ games for the remainder of the month….just “feels” like a let down. Let me be clear, 12 free games a month is sweet, but if you plan on continuing the 12 free games per the “Instant Game Collection” idea, maybe try dropping 3 every week. That way it “feels” like we’re getting something all month long.

If for some reason 12 isn’t going to be the number moving forward, that would be disappointing after this months start. I’d like to see the instant game collection to build EXTENSIVELY over time, for paying PS+ subscribers. Obviously most gamers are much older titles anyway, so most gamers willing to shell out for PS+ are the true gamers, that have already played these games. But it’s an effective way to “replay” those titles or cleanup missed trophies. Hope this feedback helps. And if there’s ever a position open on your team, I’d love to join!

    • i’m working on a report right now that is examining when the best timing would be to place new content into the instant game collection. this report takes into account community feedback of course. the # of games should not dip, but you’ll see more of a rotation aspect to new content rather than a building on top of the 12. There are costs associated to maintaining the content and to continue to build on it would result in complicating the $$ analysis, which we have to be aware of as well.

    • also, i always go through all comments =) it might not be in the first hours of the posts, but i do get to them

    • PM me in the forums as well if you’d like to review a hiring opp with our team. ID: mochuuu ; but note that it requires at least 4 years of experience in marketing/community management, specifically with in gaming.

  • DUST 514: Bundle With Mercenary Pack ($19.99)
The DUST 514 Mercenary Pack Bundle contains everything new recruits would want to make a name for themselves. Download it now and make your mark on the galaxy!
    File size 1.91 GB

    Is this game out???!!

  • Will read up on Unchained Blades. Looks fun.

So why not $9.99 for Journey? That is the effective price for it on the Blu-ray.

Why the way higher digital prices. Blu-Rays are 99.99999999% cheaper most of the time.

  • Please tell me there are big games (like LBP2 and Infamous 2) coming next week for PS Plus. I really want Full PS3 games, I don’t care about PSN games. And I still don’t get how the new Instant Game Collection works; will we get 12 new games each month or will we only see 2 or 3 games rotated each month and the rest would stay the same?

Also, please make sure we get more discounts. the two main things I want to see more of in PS Plus are: FREE FULL PS3 GAMES (preferably a blockbuster a month) and massive discounts (like 50% on AC Brotherhood last week, which I bought instantly). I’d really appreciate 50% and more discounts.

I wish you would do the same with games like Jourmey, as a 20% discount isn’t much, if Journey was for about $7-$9 in today’s Store update, I would buy that in a heartbeat. BNut 20% won’t do, unfortunately.

Anyways, please try to clarify my Plus question about the free games each month, and take note of my feedback, I’m one of the passionate and long term Sony fans. ;)

    • check the plus post next monday for incoming good news. and think rotation-based. also, good discounts coming soon. also, i’m biased so take with grain of salt =)

  • @ Shadow-Man_4

LittleBigPlanet 2 and Infamous 2 are already available for free via PS+ and have been since E3.

  • Still no Sonic avatars v.v

Otherwise, I am curious why it took so long to make Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves appear on the PlayStation Store, I mean it has been years since their release. I find it odd that it has taken so long to put them up especially since they are developed by Sony. Shame that you didn’t put Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception on the online store with the other two, I own all three so it doesn’t really bug me that much.

Also it is nice to see Resident Evil Chronicles HD hit the PSN store, as well as many other things. I am glad to see these new additions to the PlayStation Store, thanks to the people who make it possible. ^-^

  • What happened to the doctor who game for vita? Hopefully it will come out sometime soon!

  • American_Cheese4

Hey Morgan how do you get dust514? Is it in beta or what? And why is there already dlc for a game thats not out? Other then that great update! Can you put killzone or resistance on there next time that would be great!

  • @StealthReborn, I know, I’m giving examples based on previous free Full PS3 games for them to take note. =)

  • Morgan is Dust514 Out?
You guys put DLC for what I thought was still in beta.

    Is this game out???!!

  • Really good update. The Journey deal is great. I bought that game full price at release and never regreted it. If you haven’t played the game, it’s worth considering it… although with the Journey Collection nearing release, I’d probably go that way. But it all depends on your interest in the other games, Flow and Flower.

The RE Chronicles look good, I’m interested in those, but the price is just a bit higher than I expected. I will still get them eventually, and probably full price, but for now I still have a serious backlog, so I’ll check them in the future.

    And I have a PS2 Classic suggestion: Mega Man X Collection. =)

  • How big is the size of the Dust514 bundle if you Already Have the closed beta?

im just hoping i don’t have to re-download the same 1.9gb i am doing right now

    -Thanks

  • I’m disappointed to see that we’ll only get four new games next month, which is half of what we’ve averaged for the past 10 months or so.

  • @Morgan Haro

anything on the PS1 games on vita yet? or the next vita update 2.0?

  • Morgan,
MegaMan Maverick Hunter X was on the Vita store since launch, now that it is on sale it is no longer compatible?

  • Will we still get psone classics on plus? I really hope so.

  • Just can’t ever find something to be happy about with these updates.

Madden 12 is 41.99… what? I just cannot comprehend that price.

Really need to rethink the pricing on PSN. Especially the PSP content.

Really have to reiterate the call for new psp releases to have day 1 vita compatibility. Such excellent games released and soon to be released that should have priority. I love that companies like Atlus, XSEED, etc. are getting these titles over here but you got to help them out SCEA. You pushed the Vita/PSP compatibility because the PSP is practically a dead system over here. I hate having to play these on my uncomfortable psp while my Vita just sits on the desk.

Morgan you do a good job man but light a fire under someones arse. Get them to seriously start thinking about this stuff.

Also a set date for PSOne classics on Vita would just be super if you know it or could perhaps obtain one.

  • Sweet fast update! It was so cool when you guys were coming out with the old genesis games and ps2 games (viewtiful joe would rock) for download. I know theres alot on your plate with all the vita people freaking out every two seconds, so no hurry. But yeah more of that stuff, please and thank you.

  • @Morgan Rendermonk described the problems with the new PS+ perfectly with post #120. He described it politely and pointed out wisely that nobody is complaining about getting 12 games at the beginning of this month, that was fantastic, but it was clearly a one time thing. I look forward to the news on July’s PS+ that you say is coming next Monday. It will certainly shed some light on the new structure, and make or break it. If we are rotating in 2 or 3 AAA games, that will be another great month, and, depending on the games, will be practically on par or better than what we have come to expect. Maybe you could get on a schedule where 1 big game is rotated in every 2 weeks? But Rendermonk described it very well when he said that the last 3 weeks “feel” like disappointments. Even if it’s more psychological, something to look forward to every week was and is a good feeling. I don’t think that minis, full game trials, and ps1 classics should be taken off the table completely. Please take that into consideration. Thanks for reading! and I look forward to hearing about next month.

  • I wish I could play PSP games on my PS3…

  • Excellent Update! Greatly appreciate the YouTube App for PSVita, glad to know SCEA is listening. Any info on the PSone compatiblity on Vita?

  • cant wait to watch amazing spiderman next week. i tried the 3ds demo of the game and it was really good, cant wait to try the ps3 version sometime. and i want those virtua fighter avatars but i lost my plus. resident evil darkside chronicles is an awesome game, gonna try that later even if i got the wii version.

  • For us Plus members:

When you ‘rotate out’ a game for the instant game collection, will it be like every other free PS3 game we’ve gotten in the past? As a member it will be out of the game selection area, but still free to DL from our download list?

Or is this new free game service just a temporary game loan?

Please answer, I haven’t seen this mentioned and it’s important to know before I renew again.

    Thanks.

    • as long as you have downloaded, or even just clicked the Download button when it’s in rotation, it will be accessible to download even if it’s out of rotation, as long as you’re a Plus member.

  • was going to get Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 untill i saw a review that it needs internet connection to play… PASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • Thanks for the update on the Pinball Arcade patch, Morgan. I really appreciate it!

  • Gravity Rush DLC and the PS Vita Youtube app make this a pretty good week. I can’t get enough Gravity Rush been looking forward to the Spy Pack since finishing the game.

  • On the list is says Pinball Arcade DLC is available for PS3. I downloaded it and there is only the Vita version. I loaded up the original pinball arcade, I assume that is how you would access the new pinball games.

  • Not much is going to interest me since I’ve got a lot of games and got back into PS Home! (Which has been super fun). But the highlight for this week was 4.20! Very very happy! =D

    Oh you’re checking the comments?
Ah I don’t want to seem like an unsatisfied gamer or anything, I’m satisfied. Free DLC with Plus is something that kind of disappeared… but with that.. I haven’t even seen discounted DLC either!

I want to note you something. If you hand out discounted DLC (like with Motorstorm R.C. and Escape Plan) I’ll buy it! (which I did!) Even when I don’t have the game (I have the Free R.C. vita version). Now that I have that DLC for a steal… (and not the game) what am I going to do? Go out and buy the Vita and the game! If I’m entitled to cheap DLC, I’ll more than likely be obligated to buy the game and use it. I’ll be getting a Vita maybe this Black Friday and as soon as I get this wi-fi issue fixed in my house.

Discounted games are cool and all, I like discounts but the thing is… I have so many games…
I’d like it if Plus got back to discounting DLC or giving some away for free. (for good games too, not bad ones that got low ratings). I’m also all for dropping content weekly rather than all at once.

  • No Plus preview?

  • Any news about resistance burning skies avatar Morgan? I’m still wait for those.

  • Hey Morgan, will PS+ acknowledge the existence of the Vita?

    • yep. we’re working on it, but before we do anything with this, it has to be good from all angles and we don’t want to launch it half baked. thanks for your patience.
