PlayStation Store Update

Grace Chen's Avatar Posted by Sr. Director, PlayStation Store

Hi Everyone –
We kick things off this week with two of the biggest PlayStation 3 games of all time are making their way to digital release for the first time. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves are now available to download! Pick up both games as a bundle for $39.99, or purchase individually at $29.99.

The Amazing Spider-man hits theaters next week (and from the sounds of some early reviews, it sounds awesome) but the game is available for download today in the PS3 Full Games category. Navigate through the Manhattan skyline with the return of the fan-favorite, free-roaming, web-slinging gameplay. With classic villains, visceral combat choices, and an all-new epilogue story to the movie, this is a release no super hero fan should miss.

Resident Evil fans have a lot to look forward to with Resident Evil 6, but to satiate the hunger for zombie action, you may want to check out Resident Evil: Chronicles HD. This bundle of two amazing retellings of the early Resident Evil storylines features Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (previously not available on PlayStation consoles), which have been remastered for the PlayStation 3 with HD graphics and PlayStation Move compatibility. It’s available at a discounted price over the retail release and an even greater discount with a PlayStation Plus membership.

PS Vita sees more great functionality with the YouTube App now available for download. With the YouTube application on PS Vita, you can watch millions of YouTube videos on PS Vita’s stunning 5” OLED screen. And with 3G, you can watch your favorite content – from comedy to gaming tips to viral videos – while you’re at home or on-the-go.

The online portion of GT Academy 2012 may have ended, but that doesn’t mean you should stop playing Gran Turismo 5! Arriving this week are two new exciting DLCs – The Twin Ring Motegi Pack and Scion FR-S 12. Check out the dedicated post for more info on this content.

PSP owners take note; there’s some great content this week including Unchained Blades. Featuring the work of developers from legendary games like Grandia and the Lunar series, this JRPG dungeon crawler boasts a unique combat system where teams of four characters battle and unchain monsters to unleash devastating abilities.

PlayStation Plus subscribers get some great updates today as well. You may have seen the news that the Journey Collector’s Edition is coming August 28th. While this amazing package will feature a TON of exclusive content (in game commentary, revealing documentaries, and more) PlayStation Plus members can now snag the core PSN Game Journey with a 20% discount for $11.99. You’ll also see the aforementioned Plus discount on new release Resident Evil: Chronicles HD, for 10% off, as well as 20 free Virtua Fighter 5 avatars to sport on your PSN profile. Note that next week we’ll be talking about the Plus outlook for July, so stay tuned.

Check out all the details below including Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad fishtailing on to the PlayStation Store, and additional content like new Dragon’s Dogma add-ons, and an all new Spy Costume Pack for PS Vita title Gravity Rush. Make sure you check out all the details below and let us know your thoughts in the comments! Don’t forget to check out the PlayStation Store Update thread on the PlayStation Community forums to discuss this week’s releases.

I’m actually a bit concerned about the change to PS+. While i do like that we are getting some pretty good quality games it feels so empty. Despite what they tell us we are in fact getting LESS than we did before the change. After the initial burst we are only getting 3 games a month. Exactly how is this better? It’s not. What happened to PSOne Classics, minis, etc? All we’re getting is 3 games a month. Well I could be overreacting a bit too soon, but it does worry me.

@Sevyne There are currently 3 free minis for PS+ users.
– Orbit
– Kaleidoscope
– Farm Frenzy 2
You should get them before they expire.

Post Pt. 1

I have been watching what people have been saying good and bad about the “youtube” app. Well, I figured I would give my input and see if I could help people out a bit. I have been playing with the app for several hours in combo with my laptop and this is what I have figured out.

Your “Youtube Account:
Make a “youtube” account if you do not already have one…it is important to continue on from here.

Registering PS Vita Youtube App:
Open the app, and then hit the bottom right bubble for options.
Now touch settings and next window simple touch “Sign In”
Now touch “Go to the Youtube Website”
Now sign in with the account you wish to register with your PS Vita and have boxed check to “stay signed in”.
Now simply touch “Allow access” and it will take you back to the black window in settings again.
Now don’t close it just yet.

Using Youtube on the PS Vita:
Now touch “Terms and Privacy Policy”
Now stretch the window to see better, and touch on “My Account” and touch “Yes” when asked about being redirected to another page.
Again, stretch window to better see and now you can see all your account info, including link to your “My Subscriptions”.

Post Pt. 2

Searching Youtube Channels:
Now for those wating to see people’s channels…..move up to the very top of the page.
Use the “Search” box just above “My Account” to search for the specific channel you are looking for.
When you see a video from the channel you are searching for, touch on it.
Again, make window easier to see and you will see the link to the channel you searched next to the video icon, and touch on it to go there.
*You will NOT be able to view video from here.*
Now that you are at the channel you searched for you can Subscribe/Unsubscribe on the right hand side of your screen.
Repeat and rinse for any other channel you are looking for. When you are finished, you can then touch on the “X” on the very top grey area.
Now touch on “X” on the setting area, and touch the “Star” on the bottom a couple of times to refresh.
Now recommendations from your new setup will appear.
I hope this helps some of those having few problems with the new PS Vita “Youtube” app.
Sorry for two posts….its the character count limit for posts :(

@Sevyne Next Monday will be very enlightening regarding the new program. If there are 3 bona fide AAA full games each month, I would consider that better than before. Before the instant game collection, in an average month we may have gotten 2 marquee PSN games, 2 or 3 PS1 classics, and 3 or 4 minis — on top of the full game trials and discounts, right? Maybe on a good month the marquee free game would be an old digital blu-ray game. So if we are now getting 3 AAA full games each month, that would be quality-wise an upgrade. Of course that remains to be seen next Monday.

The way i see it, the biggest hurdle to get over (if the quality of the 3 games is high) will simply be the psychological adjustment to only having something to look forward to once a month instead of every week, but they could fix that simply by making sure the discounts are very good and interesting each week and there are still full game trials. Of course all of this is assuming the 3 games rotating in are great ones.

@Amadeus589 Thanks for the heads up. I think I missed those.

@Squiggle55 If they are great quality games then that’s cool, but one big thing I liked about Plus were getting the PSOne Classics. Removing that is removing 1 good reason for me to keep Plus. Not all of us want the same thing and I could have sworn that is why they had that variety. They are alienating a portion of subscribers by removing them.

When does this update end? Yesterday I got cards for my PSN wallet but I couldn’t enter them; when I tried to enter them it said the operation is currently undergoing maintenance, which I believe is a result of this update.

EchoLocate said:

The same exact thing is happening to me and adding money to your PSN wasllet

Squiggle55 said:

June 28th, 9:44 am

@Sevyne Still speaking hypothetically, assuming the 3 games rotated in are very high quality, and the overall quality/value of the program has been raised, I think most people will get used to it and approve of the new program with high quality full games. That’s not to say I don’t like PS1 classics, that’s just to say that the better value is those full/more expensive games. But if there are people out there who actually only want ps1 classics, they would probably save money by cancelling PS+ and just buying them individually.

Squiggle55 said:

June 28th, 9:45 am

But don’t get me wrong I would love to see PS1 classics and minis tossed in on some weeks.

Uncharted 1. Awesome. Uncharted 2. Better. The Amazing Spider-Man. Epic. Ok now I have a couple other games I’d like to see get a digital version. Which includes many HD Collections, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and Square Enix RPGs. Spider-Man looks pretty cool.

Um give us some PS2 classics.

WE ARE STILL missing Ape Escape from the PSone classics, and several games from PS2 classics thats popular.

Sevyne said:

June 28th, 5:24 pm

@Squiggle55 The value would possibly increase, but you really can’t say the quality does because that’s all subjective. The variety was provided to cater to the tastes of many and not just 1 demographic. Narrowing it down now alienates an audience that could possibly have been day 1 loyal Plus subs. Instead of making Plus more appealing to everyone they have made it appealing to less in the grand scheme of things, unless we haven’t seen the full picture yet. July will tell us a lot about their plans.

I’m also not saying that people ONLY want the PSOne Classics (though i’m sure there are some that would like that). What I am saying is taking them out completely from Plus is a crappy move.

So I downloaded the 60mins trail just to install it and play with it and I was going to buy both uncharted 1 and 2. In a few day and looked at my trophies asnd saw that it had %0 for Uncharted!!!! I hope this is just becase I need to but the game. I would hate to have to go back and get %100 for Uncharted.when I all ready had it.

Morgan, good sales this week, all it takes is one or two games at a good price, and by the end of the year you can have 50-100 PSn games in your collection :) Bionic Commando Rearmed and Flock both at 66% off, 2 valid PSN games on sale, didn’t really play Bionic Commando #1 much but for $4.99 I will pick up the sequel, and Flock was 100% off my radar but for $2.99 its worth a try. See that’s what good sales do! :) i’ll pay a little for games I wouldn’t ever buy otherwise. 66%+ off is a sweet spot!
