Will the PSVita ever get any custom theme`s like we have for the PS3 and PSP?

I love the touchscreen menu and all but adding only a start-up wallpaper on my choice on a screen that i barely watch doesnt feel very custom :(

Hey Morgan,

Thanks for the great work! I think i have spent a thousand so far… i ran out of space on my 320 GB PS3 and my PS+ subscription will expire sometime in 2014 :D.

I’m willing to spend more if you guys support the Vita even better. Have been enjoying the smaller device recently… maybe you should make a PS++ for Vita users.

Is any one else having issues connecting to PSN? It seems like ever since the latest firmware update it times itself out when trying to connect!!! I know it’s not my internet connection as everything else in my house works fine! When I run the internet connection test on my PS3 it passes, just never passes the PSN test! Grrrr, so frustrating!

Dungeon Twister is fun!
I’m also glad to see the + content.

Can we get the PS Store content, along with the video content, with the Video Unlimited preview app interface? It is a great way to find new content and the categories would work well with games and videos combined. The current PS Store is forward and backward, but the Video Unlimited preview app feels as if you’re exploring a broader location (all while being better organized!).

@135: For every gaming hardware manufacturer, the first year is very crucial in order to build recognition, fame and ultimately demands for the upcoming financial year. If the hardware doesn’t sell as intended, the software companies will be reluctant to develop games for that particular hardware.

It’s quite inaccurate to compare PSV position today and 3DS position last year. When 3DS released last year, practically there wasn’t any competition. You could argue that at the time the NDS and PSP were selling more than 3DS, but they are sold to a different type of customer. For the gaming and tech-savvy customers, most of them were either selling or letting go the old hardware in order to make way for the new generation of handhelds and 3DS was the only player in town.

Now PSV is launched at the time when 3DS is already climbing in popularity and unfortunately for Sony, this time gamers do have an alternative. And that alternative is gaining quite a momentum in the past few months. That is why in my opinion, Sony need to concentrate more on PSV if they plan to catching up with the 3DS popularity. Because software makers are cautious about the hardware sales too, maybe even more cautious than us. PS: I do not own a 3DS

Any more word on when we might be able to access more of the PlayStation Store when we’re away from our beloved PS3s? You mentioned to ‘keep your eyes open’ a while back. I’m out of the country and would hate to miss the opportunity to update my account with the Instant Game Collection. And I’d be buying stuff that’s on sale so it would be ready for me when I got back. But all I have with me is my Vita and whatever I can access through Media Go. I’d really love to get full PlayStation Store access from either my Vita or my computer! Thanks!

i gotta say im impressed. although ill admit Atlus probably saved this update for me. i love the persona games and have i believe 1 and 3 digitally, nice to see 2 on sale, and will probably end up getting that. I honestly dont see why they didnt mention Atlus having a sale for this week. i mean did they just ask them today? ps+ wise im kinda interested in impostor. i played in beta (although not for ps3) and it was somewhat enjoyable. so ill probably download that.
Still sad to see no update, or anything new on the Vita, or when ps1 support is coming, but i guess its ok with the sales/deal for this week.

A different type of customer? The 3ds was aimed at nintendo fans, specifically DS owners. The price was high, the software underwhelming and the system was sinking like a lead balloon worldwide. Nintendo was forced to slash the price, an unprecedented move for nintendo this early in the life cycle of a new hardware offering.

To make the claim that most of the gaming and tech-savvy customers were selling their systems to pick up a 3ds is nothing more than unsubstantiated conjecture on your part and completely contradicted by the poor sales of the 3ds prior to the price drop.

“Now PSV is launched at the time when 3DS is already climbing in popularity and unfortunately for Sony, this time gamers do have an alternative. ”

Sorry, but the 3ds is NOT an alternative to the psvita. Not for me or other adult gamers like myself who place value in the many capabilities a handheld device should provide, none of which the 3ds offers. The 3ds is for kids. I’ve accepted this. I keep it around for the odd nintendo based title, but this is mediocre dated hardware with a 3d gimmick nobody gives a rat’s ass about anymore.

The general misconception around here is that sony has somehow abandoned the vita. It is simply impossible for a system this early in its life cycle to compete with its older sibling, in this case, the ps3 and its offerings. Sony is targeting ps3 customers as its best bet for sales of the vita.

The vita, by the end of this year, will feature a far more robust and diverse offering of software than the 3ds.

iTofuMan said:

@ massimodo
please tak off those fanboy glasses. both the 3ds and Vita are great gaming consoles. claiming the 3ds (and probably nintendo in general) is “kiddy” is ignorant, and untrue. there are a lot of mature on their system so how exactly does that make the system kiddy?

To me at least Sony seems to abandon the Vita on the sheer fact they do little to nothing for the System. Look at Japan and Europe. they are doing something to help boost up the Vita. one is having sales/deal, the other is finally putting Vita content on ps+. what are we doing?

Yes everyone knows the first year (mostly the first couple of years) is hard, but its really only hard when the company itself does nothing. do you know why nintendo and the 3ds sold well? it actually catered towards consumers. if you bought a 3ds all your ds games worked on it. how does sony handle that? unless its on the psn (which isnt much) your SofL.

All im saying is dont be afraid to call out when Sony is getting lazy, they obviously need us to tell them what we want. if you keep praising them for all their (lack of) work you are telling them they can be lazier.

Anyone else having issues with adding funds?

Trying to buy Infamous: FOB and it gives me error 80023102, and “cant add funds to wallet”. on the sen site its trying to say invalid card yet it was last used on the 30th of last month, and I used it on the 3rd or so last month to buy Walking Dead season pass.

If this screws me getting I: FOB and renewing my PS+ later this month I’m going to be annoyed as hell :/

Hey Morgan, first time posting to the blog, so hi there! I just have a few simple questions that I hope you’ll be able to answer. I was under the impression that we, as plus users, were to be getting 12 “instant game collection” games per month to chose from per month for free, am I wrong? Also, I was wondering if we could make suggestions as far as what we want to see as far as free games go? Not 60 min trials. I think we all would like to see better choices for the freebies, is everyone in agreement?

To your question, it was never stated that there would be 12 new games every month; that’s not a path we’re taking at this time. as far as suggestions; everyone has their favorites, and we’ve got a team of gamers just like you and me who are working with publishers to get great content into the collection. but also as a gamer, it’s tough to deny that the plus free game offering hasn’t improved; there’s a lot more to love but we want to keep the collection compelling for everyone and make that Day 1 experience of Plus just as good as Day 1000. thanks for posting!

Oh, and I’ve wanted to say to those people who keep bugging for cross game chat, NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN! It is exclusive to SuxBox. Copywrited to Microsucks. So, please get over yourselves and be happy with the FREE service that the DEDICATED people at SONY are working so DILIGENTLY to make better.

Is it safe to assume that the EU PSN goodies will be ours in time?

I know a lot of the EU guys want access to R&C All 4-1 too.

Why divide us? Dont make me hate my brethren across the seas by treating them differently.
Dont you love us both just as much?

Also a great PS2 game to put on PSN would be Dark Watch. 2player FPS with a vampire twist, had lots of fun with that if I recall correctly.
Other PS2 suggestions:
-Matrix: Path of Neo (One of the best movie games ever made)
-Starwars Battlefront 1/2. (These should have been the first two PS2 games to make it to PS3, poor Pandemic)

I also suggest a solution to make PS+ a better deal for all PS3 users, not just those who dont buy their own games at full price. I say this as I constantly find PS+ tryin to give me a free copy of games I already own.
If you guys cant say for sure which games will never be free or discounted then I propose the following:

It’s not safe to assume that EU Plus content will come to US. Different regions, different publisher approvals; not a question of how much we appreciate everyone, we heart all PlayStation gamers! But I definitely want to manage that expectation there.

-Give me the option of accepting the free game you have selected or trade it in for a 5% or $5 discount on an item of my choosing. If the value of what I choose is above $20 I can get $5 off, if its $20 or under I get 10% off or something.
The values would not stack, so I cant save the discounts from month to month, must use or lose per month.
This encourages further spending every single month, as i would lose the discounts at the beginning of each month.
Everyone wins and can be happy.

Historically I have spent a lot of money on PSN, too many times though it is in vain and i regret my purchases due to them later being discounted. Its like I am being punished for making full price purchases, this is the wrong message to send and as a result I no longer spend any money in the PS Store, at all. Check my history and see you guys have lost a steady $20/month from me ever since stealing my 3 activations away coupled with the above.

This feedback is more concrete, thank you. It’s a good idea, but the system is currently not setup to be able to do this automatically. I like the idea, and I’ll make sure it gets to the team to consider some sort of manual implementation. But there are many, MANY other things to consider if we were to do something like this, so any thought along these lines would take time to implement, and that is of course if it even were to be implemented. but again, great idea

Tons of people feel the same way and are being turned away from PS+ as a service that is not meant for them.
It can be a service for everyone regardless of how much money we spend.

Why send the message that those who spend lots of money are less valuable customers? You must see the flaw there.

I have subscribed to Qore since it started, now I been with Plus since it started, and I am constantly feeling like a second class customer, or at least like I have fallen out of the target demographic.

Dont single me out, embrace me as I have embraced you before my offer expires.

A full PS3 game given to me free should be worth a measly $5 or 5% off a purchase of my choice should it not?

Even if its a limited selection of PS3 exclusive content that my discount applies to it would at least provide an option for those of us who already own and continue to build on our own a extensive library of disc or digital based games.

Philliblunz is speaking a lot of sense. If a PS+ member already digitally owns a game on their account that is given away for free that month, they should be able to buy something else at 5 or 10% off or something along those lines. That makes good sense and would be a great gesture to people that buy a lot of content.

it’s good feedback. it’s not something that the Store can do automatically at this time, but I’ll relay the feedback to the team.

If half the effort spent on improving the store instead of these fanboy sockpuppets there wouldn’t be any complaints as all that’s currently wrong could be solved. Morgan & Grace should take the hint.

I’d love to see more PS1 and PS2 games with PS+. I’m not even talking to have PS2 for free but at least with some sort of discount. PS2 has the greatest game library and we do not even have 20 games available.
Other than that loving PS+ so far!!

I’m afraid my focus is on PSN, and not so much Vita, so I must be upfront with you and let you know this isn’t something that I can pass along as I need to focus on core PSN.

Since, by your statement, vita is not part the the core psn, or your focus…who’s job and focus is it? I could go on, but I found this post to be poorly thought out and irresponsible to vita and ps3 owners who are part of the PSN.

I’m loving the free psn games. Especially so soon after the free twelve games. I’ve been wanting Pac Man for awhile. PS Plus still isn’t getting enough free avatars though. Surely that can be improved on right? Personalization is important and most people won’t pay for avatars though they will pay for PS Plus!

SpooNManX said:

I agree with #183. It’s disappointing as a PS Plus user to see the 2 games being given away I already paid full price for. As a user this makes me think twice about buying new games when they hit PSN because I don’t want to buy them only to see them given away in a few months.

This happened with Ratchet & Clank All 4 One, which I bought the disc for just a week before, and this week with both Pac-Man Championship DX and Renegade Ops.

If they gave us the option to download those or apply a decent discount towards another game that I don’t own.

Otherwise it’s like you are rewarding us NOT to buy anything on the store. I’d even be into seeing a radical change to the way this is handled such as no free games each month, but instead a credit applied to our wallet to spend on anything we want. Thought I’m sure the latter will never happen.

I’m sorry I was wrong. I must have heard the E3 conference incorrecly. It must have been just about the 12 free games given after E3. As far as what I was talking about with giving us choices for the games, I was thinking maybe give us 5 or 6 choices to choose from at the end of each month before the next PlayStation Store update and let us vote on… say… three of them to be given as freebies. Just an idea. But, I’m assuming that my idea would be too difficult to implement anyway. Thanks for the response to my questions, though.

I can’t seem to get an answer from the EU Blog, maybe I’ll have better luck on this side.
Why won’t Sony allow The Studio (makers of artsy themes and avatars) to make music visualisation for PS3/Vita/PSP?

@ Grace Chen / Morgan Haro

This is my first time posting and I appreciate very much the price reductions, especially on Catherine which I had on sight for some time.

I was giving it some thought about the PSN Store since Sony gets several important advantages when we buy from the PSN Store that should translate in better prices for us.

For Sony:
– Zero manufacturing costs (no cases, no printing manuals, no pressing disks)
– Less distribution costs compared to physical media (no shipping to retailers, customers, etc.; just bandwidth costs)
– Zero time from RTM to distribution (no need for devs to finish months in advance to meet a deadline)
– Games bought from the PSN Store cannot be resold, cannot be lent and can be digitally killed by Sony at any time (not that you exercise the right, just that you can).

For us:
– Can buy games from any place at any time.

I’d love sales and price reductions as much as the next guy, but I’d like better prices from the get go. Gamestop’s prices are always lower and when Sony gets benefits from digital downloads, it should promote them by giving us a price advantage, not just the convenience advantage.
