Pre-Order Bonuses and Release Date for PlayStation All-Stars

Cristian Cardona's Avatar Posted by Associate Product Marketing Manager, Software Marketing

It’s only been a few weeks since E3, and the Internet has been set ablaze with anticipation for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale! We announced new fighters Nathan Drake and Big Daddy, and that PlayStation All-Stars will have a PlayStation Vita release when it launches later this year – so you’ll be able to take the battle with you on the go, or experience cross-platform matches against your friends whether you’re playing on PS3 or PS Vita.

We’ve been thrilled to hear all of the great responses to the news about the game so far, and have been reading all of your questions and comments on the blogs and forums. While we’ll get to answering all of them soon enough, today we’re going to be answering a couple of the more popular ones: “Why pre-order?” and “When is the game coming out?”

Aside from making sure you’ve got a copy on day one, pre-ordering will snag you an exclusive set of costumes for all of the characters in the game! Here are the outfits for the roster so far, but be sure to check back in with us later when we unveil them all.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Pre-Order Costumes

We’ve revealed eight characters already, but you’ll have to wait until our announcement later today to see who else will be in the ring. We will be unveiling two new characters during our Exhibition Presentation at EVO in Las Vegas this evening at 6:00pm PST. So if you’re in town for the tournament, stop by and check us out or tune in to the PS.Blog for more information.

When the game launches, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to unlock multiple costumes for each character, but these exclusive costumes will only be available if you pre-order. And yes, they’ll be available right when you start playing the game!

I’ll leave you with one last update: PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will be launching on October 23rd, 2012! We’ll have plenty more details on the game — including pricing for both the PS3 and PS Vita versions — soon enough, but we wanted to give you a date to mark on your calendars. Be sure to head over to a participating retailer to reserve your copy today!

Looking ford ti this game already have it pre-ordered. I m also likining the idea of cross-over gameplay with Vita. As for characters in the game, I like it so far. I just hope you guys are planning to bring alot DLC characters to the list.

So a few questions:

– is the blue flame costume asked on anything, or just a cool design?
– are all the characters shown so far available from the start?
– why more than 10 characters? Seems like most people are happy to just have 1 :)

It’s going to take a lot more than some costumes to get me excited for this game. The whole “super attacks are the only thing that matter” mechanic seems absurdly dumb. If you are going to copy Super Smash Bros., then why not copy all of it?

getemlionheart said:

Why do you people assume there are only 10 characters? That’s nonsense, so how about using a little common sense when reading the article. Also the developers have said they will be announcing characters all the way up until the games release. And one more thing i feel the moderater should know an tell sony is this, ON THE ENTIRE INTERNET, ON EVERY GAMING WEBSITE, IN EVERY COMMENT SECTION, THE MOST WANTED CHARACTERS ARE MAINLY FROM SQUARE ENIX’S PS1 AN PS2 DAYS, SUCH AS KINGDOM HEARTS AND FINAL FANTASY CHARACTERS, SUCH AS CLOUD, SORA, SEPHIROTH, RIKU, LIGHTNING AND AURON,BUT HONESTLY ANY AND ALL FF CHARACTERS WOULD BE AN AWESOME ADDITION!!!! So yeah the majority of gamers are begging for these characters from square enix!!!! OOH an 1 more thing yall should look into PYRAMID HEAD to,(from silent hill) that would be an AWSOME surprise!!!

Will Kevin Butler be in the game? Any plans for any real world celbs to be in thier? or even the girl in Beyound: Two Souls?

I don’t currently own a Vita, but currently plan on buying the AC3 Bundle in October. Are there any plans to have a Battle Royale Vita Bundle? If so, would I miss out on the pre-order bonus costumes by getting that?

Thanks in advance, Christian.

Haven’t seen any mention of this, but I figure that I may as well ask.

1. If I buy a digital copy of the game on my PSN account, will it work on both my PS3 and my PS Vita; or would I have to instead buy a digital copy for both my PS3 and my PS Vita?

2. If I do have to buy two separate copies of the game for my console and handheld, will there be any special bundles where you can buy the PS Vita version with the PS3 version for a slightly reduced cost?

Crash Bandicoot was the mascot of the Playstation brand originally. Without him, the lineup seems empty.

Also, the Playstation mascot in Japan is Toro the Cat, who is already playable in Street Fighter X Tekken. I suspect he’ll be announced next.

Are we still able to make suggestions for certain characters and stages to make it on the first roster?

jezuzboy97 said:

I do think you guys should include Kevin Butler as a pre-order bonus, as I think it will encourage more to pre-order. Also, I was planning on buying the AC3 Vita bundle in October like #209, but if you guys make a PSASBR Vita bundle, I will most definitely buy that instead. Some characters I would like to see:

Cole McGrath
Kevin Butler (pre-order bonus)

Another suggestion, if an entire Kevin Butler character is not possible: make him a costume for Nathan Drake!

Im wondering if they will put Crash in Allstars. This is going to be interesting.

ururler said:

No particular order (tho I sorta tried)
1. Crash Bandicoot
2. Syro The dragon
3. Sir Daniel Fortesque
4. Cole Mcgrath
5. Solid Snake
6. A Final Fantasy character
7. Assassins Creed character
8. A Chimera from Resistance

Ratchet and Clank or Jak and Daxter wouldn’t be bad either

I’ll be surprised if at least one of the characters you reveal tonight isn’t one I listed.

Anyway.. A message to superbot, if you get the chance to read this I want you to know that this isn’t super smash bros.- your making a more hardcore fighting game, your target audience (at least if you want to be successful) Is gonna be one a lot less casual, so by saying this i’m hoping for a full retail release, by this I mean I want the game to be released at $60 and not marketed like a playstation move/ HD collection game at $40.

… And… just so you know, If your going to go ahead with making a PS themed brawler (something we all know everyone’s wanted and been waiting for) you have to do it right, by overdelivering. this means taking peoples expectations and going above and beyond them – this is the only way your going to get respect from the intelligent gamers who are interested but who can also smell a cop out.

Are you guys allowed to put snake in this since he was in brawl? Going to be honest here, I hope you don’t even if you can, snake was already in a game exactly like this so you should make all these characters fresh to play as. Also here’s hoping that you put Max from dark cloud 2 in! That would be awesome

Hope you can answer to at least some of these
1) will there be patches to balance gameplay after the release?
2) What do you think of a stamina mode where each characters start off with a bar of health and in order to ko them you have to deplete the bar then kit them with a super, the stamina bar would not refill untill death or item? That way there is a middle ground between have a hp bar and killing with super that will work and be fun.
3) do you all recognize the importance to have crash bandicoot and spyro in this game not only for demand but importance to the playstation history, do you think this could be a sony allstars with one of the bigger characters missing?
4) one other concern I had is the lack of death animation, when you ko a opponet they just seem to zap off screen will that be changed because I like to see some reaction from the character when I perform my devastating ko attack.
5) some worry that the lighting is dull do you see that as a problem?
6) will there be plenty of unlocks and character unlocks?
7) will there be a vita and ps3 bundle soon so I can preorder it?

An important question that hasn’t been answered yet…

Hopefully you guys are aware of the DLC debacle that happened with Capcom vs. Tekken (just ask Seth Killian if you aren’t aware). Since then, Capcom indicated they will change their ways, and Namco came out early and said that there will be no DLC characters sold for Tekken Tag Tournament 2. The producer of the next Dead or Alive game said something similar.

Can you promise us that if you sell DLC, that it will NOT be extra characters? For fighters, it would be terrible if you do because it disrupts the balance in tournies (those who paid for DLC and have experience with them vs. those who haven’t). Usually, DLC characters are banned, and that’s not a good way to start off a new franchise.

Ask gamer at Evo this weekend if they wouldn’t mind paying for DLC characters. They will ALL tell you not to do it. Sell costumes and stages instead.

I know you guys were at Evo with a demo of the latest build and interviewing. I missed you guys segment on the live stream but am really interesting in the title. Is it possible to get that video coverage on the blog? Or even a link would be nice…

also, when are you gonna have a Q&A with some fighting game fans, there’s a ton of questions I have about the combat system, team play, and the overall feel of the combos in the title.

I guess the reason why people are assuming that there would only be ten characters is because October is not too far away and we’ve only seen a select few fighters. There are a lot of potential candidates for this game and I do not want to be disappointed by the lack of characters(fighters).
(I also hope that beloved characters are NOT in the game only the be seen in the background merely as a cameo; for example, TOMBA fighting pigs in the background, or something)
I cannot wait to hear MORE character announcements during the coming months.

Allow me to explain this situation with a simple analogy: Buying a new IP, modern fighting game is like buying your first box of mixed-flavour chocolate (just drop the forrest gump jokes, they’re already lame). You open the box, maybe try 4-5 or maybe all of them, but usually you end up with one or two favourites. Back to gaming, this also explains why capcom or namco usually brag about number of in-game characters in their fighting games prior to release dates. With a huge roster of characters, one or two of them should “fit-in” with the player, which is important especially for online multiplayer.

Now here’s the problem: You’re asking us today to preorder this fighting game, but gave little information regarding even the number of playable characters. Showing eight characters and two “?” characters (now confirmed as heihachi mishima and toro inoue?) and telling us to preorder this game is a pretty risky move. So why the secrecy? Historically “More (characters) are coming” in a fighting game usually means DLCs and DLCs usually translate as partly paid-for contents. I honestly hope this game will be a success but I certainly do not want this game to be another ridge racer vita.

Don’t usually post but I just had to post a real quick rant.

Why the heck do companies keep trying to milk money with costumes, I’m sick and tired of it, why can’t you guys just make actual DLC like arenas/ characters instead of stupid costumes nobody wants? It’s stuff like this that makes me change my decision on purchasing a game…

I know this is just a pre-order bonus not DLC, but I noticed stupid costumes were the bonus and it kind of ticked me off.

Some of the characters I’d want to see, I really don’t have to say them since it’s been mentioned on more than enough occasions but here are some I’d suggest to also add that probably isn’t mentioned much and that’s Sonic (Maybe even Tails as well) and Mega Man.

At least I’m glad they are acknowledging that a bundle deal would be very desirable for people such as myself who has both the PS3 and PS Vita. You got to admit that would be one way to gain some extra publicity. Heck, at the very least, a buy 1 get one free deal could be used as an extra pre-order bonus. Even better would be to price that deal at $40. OK, OK, I’ll stop dreaming.

PLEASE have one of the in-game costumes for Fat Princess be the Blue Princess’ design. She’s so left out. The story mode followed the ‘Red’ princess (she wears pink, but it’s the red team). I love the Blue Princess, and overall her design isn’t *that* different from the Red one, so it’s not like it would be too difficult to change a few things around to reflect her.

And Kat please.

@226: Amen.

Baffles the mind how people can’t figure out the most simple things. Then again, it’s not surprising. Look at all the people who ask questions about stuff, that the articles on here already answered. If people can’t even bother to read, they can’t be expected to be smart either.

cjmp said:

The people I’d like to see in this game are Crash, Spyro, Emmett Graves, Joe Mauer (YES, Joe Mauer but only because he was on back to back covers of MLB the Show), and other characters from non playstation games like Sonic, Knuckles and Shadow. Nintendo did the same thing when they got Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow and Solid Snake in Smash Bros, so I dont see why PS All Stars couldnt do the same or at least as DLC characters. They are terrific fighters that would fit perfectly with this game. And Emmett Graves is going to go down as one of the greatest video game characters in one of the most under rated story modes in video game history. A must have.

@ 239 Elvick_

You assume everyone know the information you know. Again like i said before you need to realize not everyone is update on news for this game, or might be new completely. Had i know nothing of this game, based on the picture along one can assume this game only had a small number of characters. plus its not that farfected as you think. i mean do you do games had as little as 3-5 characters right? granted those are older games, but still a fighter game is a fighter game and their roster was small, so any game can have as many characters as they please. Its sad to see people like you bashing/hating on others just for asking a simple question who probably know little to no information about the game.

This game has piqued my curiosity and will be pre-ordering it. Although, there’s too much testosterone in the line-up, I’m hoping there would be more female characters in the game. I would definitely want to see some if not all of these ladies: Nariko from Heavenly Sword, Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII, Madison Paige from Heavy Rain, Shizuka from Genji, Ellen from Folklore, Claire Redfield from RE2/ RE Code: Veronica, Regina from Dino Crisis, and Catwoman from Arkham City. =D
