PlayStation Plus Update – Launch Week Discounts and More

Earlier this month, we delivered a big update to your PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection with the addition of great games like Gotham City Impostors, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, and Renegade Ops. These three games continue to be free for Plus members, in addition to nine more free AAA games, like LittleBigPlanet 2, inFAMOUS 2, and Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One. That’s not all for this month, though! To round out July (and even getting a bit into August), we’ve got even more goodness for Plus members!

July 17th PlayStation Plus Update

Dyad – 20% Off: Dyad is an abstract game that is influenced by many genres, including racing games, fighting games, puzzle games and classic arcade shooters. The Games (PlayStation Store Promotion): Start Your Training. Once again four years have gone by in a flash, and the world is getting together to compete in The Games. Hey Morgan,

For some of the gamers who actually pay for plus, can we get some of the games such as Dyad a little earlier, say one day before the release. I just saw a review of the game, and I’m feeling a little left out that I can’t play it yet.

The vita is a great device I’m not trying to seem like I’m trolling I’m just stating facts through my own experience with it twice. I’d love to get one keep one but the support isn’t great on it even after being out a total of 7 or so months counting Japan and apps are being released too slow it took them months to get the youtube app out and you can’t even upload vita made video’s to youtube from the app, you have to do that from the computer. I mean I can upload, edit my videos on my 8 gig Ipod touch and put them on youtube without the need of a computer a Vita can’t? I mean its small things like that as time goes by that makes me not want another one. But man its a great device but at 300 bucks its not intended just for art or a paper weight. We want the features promised and games to play that are vita exclusive not just ps3 ports. The sticks are needed for my gaming needs but if those sticks can’t hardly be used cause the games and apps aren’t flowing out on the psn like Apple apps are then the ipod suits me better for now minus its touch controls that I really hate only having the option for on ipod but on media the ipod kicks a vita in the dirt. That’s not trolling that is fact.

Hmm I just skimming through stuff here, I just want to say to Renegade, I see that you are not a playstation plus anymore, so good thing you bought Infamous two when it was on sale for PS plus members since you not ps plus anymore now you can play it forever, which is one of the things thats good about ps plus and receiving those discounts, we getting 5 free games this month counting the 2 ps1 titles that are being added, I been plus since day one, I never downloaded and watched the core episodes but saw them free, so that does not matter to me, lets see what else having 4 or 5 free games a month is better then it used to be,plus some of the ones left over on their from the month before incase I forgot to grab one or for even new people who decide to join ps plus and can get their hands on those games. .

Sometimes I think the complainers would still be complaining with 20 free games a month even if they were all different every month, but they have the right to complain even though it’s annoying seeing it all the time, also I have my vita with me on the go and my phone and I see something awesome happening that I want to record why im playing my vita I can record it on my phone and upload it to youtube that way and continue playing my vita why said video is uploading. Also adding more ps1 games with plus is good, it will give people more ps1 games to play on their vita’s when the compatibility arrives that everyone is wanting. Keep doing the good things that you are doing with ps plus Sony

Will have more games for free this month? Playstation Plus europe users will receive two free games on July 18, and they won a game better than the three we received.

Hi Morgan haro,

First of all I would.like to say this is my first time posting a comment I have always been a loyal Sony consumer. And have burnt through 3 ps3s lol. I have been a ps plus subscriber since the begining I feel like this is a huge deal for gaming the instant game collection was such a good idea I rate the game collection at a 10 outta 10. I def feel like you are the best writer that posts articles on here everyone else seems not to reply as much. Bit you guys are awesome with so many game for free and they are all quality game. With a bunch of full ps3 game n psn. Yes ppl will complain about some stupid.stuff , i get the fact ppl want ps one classics but I do not understand psn n ps3 should always take up the majority of the collection. Maybe a ps one or ps2 , or some psp every few months. But should never take over the spot of a.psn or ps3 game. Ps is such a good deal for any Gamer I dnt like Microsoft, I feel like the consumer isn’t taken care of as much as Sony but keep up the good work n keep the amazing games coming

I have an unrelated Playstation Store question: How come the Japanese store has videos or at least pictures of pretty much every downloadable game, even the PSOne Classics and other emulated games, but I have to Google for screenshots of U.S. games?

PS+ needs better games in the instant collection next month…Deus Ex Human, Motostorm AP, Crysis 2…We also need free avatars and dynamic themes…The only game I enjoyed from this month’s INGC was PAc-Man…you guys can do better…how about alone in the dark?
I do appreciate what we get but it’s been slow lately…Medieval 2, please? :)

Also are there any plans to leverage the “One Sony” concept and allow free movie rentals or even full movie downloads for PS+ members?

  we want to keep Plus gaming centric for now, so I wouldn’t look to things outside of gaming for the time being. We’re closely looking at Cloud Storage Space as well due to the community feedback, but it’s a decision not to be taken lightly, so please be patient on this one. Thanks!

weak update,2 old ps1 sports games and 20% discounts on games that cost like 15 bucks lol with 20% ull save like 2-3 dollars. honestly i rather get a psn or ps3 game insted of theese lame ps1games. also it should be 50% discount for plus members 20% for regular members.

Psn Play is looking great, can’t wait for dyad today then next week malicious!!!!! Having Ps Plus is most definately worth it.People need to stop crying & be thankful.That’s the problem with americans there not appreciative & take things for granted.I like the Psn Play lineup is superb!!!!!!!

So, the Vita has just been dead for the past 2 weeks (no releases at all), and ur plan to revive it is to release 1 game. Soundshapes looks pretty good, but it’s not a 30+ hour game (i don’t think the vita has any of those, and no, games we’ve already beat years ago don’t count, *ahem* MGS collection)

:/ kinda regretting my vita purchase here guys, seriously. I know some good games are around the corner, but i don’t wanna wait several months in between good vita releases. the attention paid to ps3 in it’s last days is 10 fold what’s paid to sony’s brand new console :/ where are the plus discounts for vita games, the instant collection for vita, the 60 min game trials for vita, psOnes, PS2’s (I’m sure it’s possible)?… where is remote play (a working version)?

i know it’s a young console, but i am afraid this is gonna be a repeat of the PSP, where a lot of things are promised, and they never materialize. i keep hearing all over the place that the vita is doomed and it’s already dead. I now see why people are feeling that way. I know whoever reads this probably can’t do anything about it, but that’s just how it feels :/ I’m just wishing the Vita gets the attention it deseves.

You know I have 1,200 sitting in my pocket right now and been on the ball park of buying a vita for the 3rd time today and giving it a 3rd chance but I have kept a CLOSE eye on its support up till today from when I last had a vita in May and man the support isn’t good that it’s had. I’m complaining about vita and then I read the blogs on the internet and on here and its tons of people mad and complaining about vita and hundreds of people daily returning the vita or trading them in at gamestop, “which is stupid they give ya nothing for trades” lol anyways, so people are constantly mad weekly in here with their vita’s and tne I hear the screen problems of blotchy spots and screen lines you can see on certain laoding screens or dark screens and I hear that is wide spread cause they glued the screen to the plastic facing and that glue shows up as it gets hot through the display and looks all blotchy and it is on all vita’s its just the patterns are different on all vita’s. Some worse than others. So I may just get a iphone and say that is my final handheld.

Once you guys ate Sony fix the blotchy spots on all vita’s cause you used a strange bonding glue and glued the vita screen to the plastic facing of the vita and when it gets hot it shows weird blotchy spots on the screen that you will see if you know what and where to look. But even then you don’t have to be looking for it its clear as day during the grey loading screens or green menu screens or dark black screens. Its annoying to me I know that and it ruins my gameplay on the thing. It shouldn’t be there and you need to fix it were their is no need to GLUE the screen to the front facing plastic cover. That was a mistake and I’d love to hear from the idiot that decided to do that? It gives that beautiful screen defects from the bonding glue and is annoying and not worth having to deal with after spending over 300 bucks on it. I want a clear screen no matter what I’m looking at. No blotching!

Since it was brought up.

Regarding cloud storage. If for some reason increasing the very small/limited about of storage we’re getting is difficult, is there something Sony can to do make sure Game Devs limit their file sizes?

As much as I’ve enjoyed FFXIII-2 for example, the 30mb save files fill up that small cloud space very fast.

There are ways to get far more storage space for free via PC and random internet sites so why is the space we get for cloud so small? (half the pc programs I download paid or free come with bonus/free GBs of cloud storage).

I do think it’s better to have a little than none of course, but 90% of the save files I’d want to upload/back up simply won’t fit.

They need to give all owners of a ps3 with a psn account cloud storage for free cause its not our fault that the developers are getting stupid by locking the save data to the console. Who wants to be forced to pay for plus just to be able to back up your locked save data on games you already payed 60 bucks for I mean what is the freaking logic is this to lock the save data to a console. Consoles won’t last forever and when they die or the hard drive goes bad and we need to replace the hardrive we will lose that save data if we can’t back it up to our flash drives. SO what do they do, they bring about cloud storage and say HEY you can now back up locked save data but you have to pay us a fee to do it. I mean that is another slap in our face. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist for 90% of these developers to know that you can lock the save data to that persons psn account like some games already do and we are able to back up our save data to a usb flash drive and move it to any ps3 as long as its copied back to the psn account it was from but no. They are now completely being lazy and blocking the save data to the ps3. Its pissing me off man.

Um Sony should everyone buying a vita or already has a vita worry about this article I found on a tech website about OLED screens?

Everybody got all hot and bothered about Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) screens a year or three ago, but the darn things still don’t seem to last much longer than 2000 hours.

(Well, technically it’s just the blue OLEDs that don’t last very long; green lasts a lot longer and red lasts for ages. But people don’t seem all that crazy about paying for a TV that turns yellow, then red.)

Which is a bit of a problem. We can already make desktop-sized OLED screens, as well as the tiny ones you can buy on some phones and cameras and MP3 players today, but nobody wants to make desktop OLEDs if the things can still be expected to die in one year if you use them for 5.5 hours a day.

Some companies allege they’re well on the way to big commercial OLED displays, to be manufactured as soon as this year, and we’ve seen some impressive prototypes, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

Not the PS1 games I would choose but I do appreciate the variety. Plus, more games to play on the go on my PSP, definitely a good thing.

Also, one of the reason I refuse to get a Vita yet. Until it does things that my PSP already can (such as play PS1 games) then I’m not interested. Why should I buy a new system for less features ? I already can’t use my UMDs anymore on Vita. Now you want to take away much of my digital library of games. No thanks.

On the bright side, you got me to spend money to get an extended life battery for my PSP and a bigger memory card to better utilize it. All the free PS1 games from Plus+ have given new life to an old system I hadn’t really been playing much.

I’m curious, but more inclined to play this in Vita (if only because the releases have been so sparse)
but would be bummed to pay twice for this title.. any word on the availability of the Vita version on the US store?

This is kinda nice. Also, ps plus subscribers should have gotten acces to LBP Karting. We subsribe too for early beta acces and no having LBP Karting as a early beta for plus members is a disappointment. I hope this trend doesn’t continue.

I realize that nothing is off limits, but what are the chances of recieving older ps3 games? And have you thought about this beforehand.

I know some gamer will be angry at me for this statement.

So here goes; Playing older games don’t bothered me. I played Dark Sector a couple of month ago and had a blast even without trophy support.

I believe most plus members would be happy with older full-ps3 title, such as Dark Sector, with or without trophy support.

Of course, you’ll always have those gamers who will complain about a game being old. They complain about a “free” game being 1 year old.

I want am a PSN Plus member and I keep seeing free themes such as fireplace and fish take are free but ending july 26 but I dont see those themes free anywhere . anyone else have that problem. Also I would like to see psone title Warcraft 2 again in the shop. And the Psone Diablo 1 up for sale.

I have really enjoyed my plus membership. I have had a subscription from the first day that I bought my PS3. I do not think there has been a month where I felt i didnt get my moneys worth. Of course there have been games that I do not play but I have never felt the need to complain. I think for those people out there that do complain should really take a look at what the game stores and toy stores sell some of these games for I can pretty much promise that you well get paid back for the price of your subscription and so what if some of those game you do not play personally,. I get a kick out of how some of these people who have complaints think they make up the majority of the gaming world, there are other people out there that do like those games. I have tried to get all of my friends and family to join the plus membership. And for those of you out there complaining and want to go to Microsoft, good luck getting any type of offers like Sony has. I mean hell with an xbox you have to pay a monthy fee just to watch netflix or play online

I have only had my ps3 for 2 month’s going on 3. I have been a xbox player for the time before that. I bought the ps+ 3 month deal because I took one look at the store and saw 35 dollars worth of free games right off the bat.
plus the complete deal of all my favorite final fantasy games too, I am happy no matter what you put up, I’ll be a Playstation fan 4 ever, you have a lifer, congradulations, lol
