New NIS RPG Legasista Coming to PSN Tomorrow

Howdy, doods! I hope everyone has been having a great summer! Ryan from NISA here, dropping by to talk about Legasista’s release tomorrow exclusively on PlayStation Network! For those unfamiliar with Legasista, it’s an action/survival RPG developed by Nippon Ichi Software, Inc. and System Prisma (ClaDun and ClaDun x2). We wanted to talk a bit more in-depth about some of the game characters, features, and more – so here we go!

First off, I’m sure a lot of you are wondering about the origins of the name Legasista. Well, the name is derived from combining the words legacy and sister.

You see, the main character, Alto, is looking for a way to save his sister, who was turned into a crystal by a curse. He discovers that the artifact that can do it lies in a ruin called the Ivy Tower. While searching the tower, he meets Melize (an ancient weapon), Leina and Shout (a witch and another ancient weapon that was rebuilt from junk parts), Mimily (a dragon-human hybrid), and Volks (a justice-loving thief).

Now that we’ve covered some of the characters, let’s jump right into a few of the noteworthy game features. Legasista utilizes a roguelike dungeon-crawling action/survival RPG battle system. You make your way through dungeons floor by floor, killing monsters and grabbing loot. Beware the poison traps, though, as there are a full dozen different symptoms you can come down with! There’s also a Ran-geon (Random Dungeon) system where you can get better equipment drops and fight stronger enemies to level up faster, but the dungeons delve deeper and you have a higher risk of dying. However, dying isn’t all that bad. Sure, you lose all the equipment that you would’ve looted from that dungeon, but you still get to keep half of the experience you earned from fighting. And you can try again, only you’ll be slightly stronger this time!

One of the awesome points about the game is how much character customization is available. You can create your own characters by choosing their Name, Job, Personality, Voice, what they look like, and more. Once you create your character, you can head into Edit Mode to personalize them even more! You can also export your character’s graphic template, load it into your favorite image editing software on your computer, draw your character precisely how you want it to look, and then import it back into the game (digital photos are fair game too). You can even edit your weapons’ appearances! Not only that, you can trade your characters with your friends to spread the madness! Whew, I got a little excited there…

We’re definitely stoked for Legasista to launch tomorrow on PSN, and our European fans will be happy to know that Legasista will be available for download on PSN in Europe this Wednesday! With a ton of customization, loads of dungeons to crawl through, and awesome action-RPG elements, we really hope RPG fans all over the world will really enjoy what Legasista has to offer!

Before I leave today, I also wanted to provide everyone here on the PS.Blog with an exclusive battle trailer for our upcoming PS3 title Mugen Souls! Hitting store shelves soon, Mugen Souls is a turn-based RPG that touts the ability to do billions of points of damage, has tons of quirky characters bent on world dominance, and features the beautiful art of Takehito Harada (Disgaea series).

This trailer should help you get acquainted with the flow of battle, which plays out in a turn-based fashion and with free movement on the battlefield. Notice how you can knock your enemies around the battlefield like sentient pinballs to break item crystals and get extra items!? You’ll also see the awesome “Moe Kill” command in action, where Chou-Chou turns her enemies into subservient peons. Did we mention the gigantic spaceship battles!? We just did, dood! Thank you for reading and be on the lookout tomorrow on PSN, as Legasista will be available for purchase! We’ll be back in about a month to go a bit more in-depth on Mugen Souls! Later, doods!

  • inb4 Mugen Souls censorship butthurt

  • Problem: NIS games are grind-heavy (the worst gameplay element there is)
The max level in their games is 9999, where other RPGs max out at 99.
Even if you leveled up every other battle, that still means you have to do more battles than many other RPGs combined.

  • “Partial Nudity”, eh? That alone will make this game very popular with the virgins. You’ve got a smash hit on your hands! Congratulations, you’ve fully achieved mastery in marketing to your target audience. I’m sure Leina will be everyone’s favorite character… hee hee hee…

  • That character editor, please tell me they were smart enough to support USB mouse controls?

  • ill wait for a price drop thank you

  • Will buy. Now please put the entire NISA PS3 JRPG catalog on the PSN please my Prinny Overlords. I bought MK2 soon as it landed and I’ll buy everything else.

Any chance of Mugen getting a digital release?

    • Hi Christian399,

I really hope we can continue to bring previous retail-only games to PSN like Neptunia mk2. I don’t have any new just yet, but my fingers are crossed!

      Best,

      Ryan

  • @5 Did they even announce the price? I think its like $20 for a fully fledged JRPG with a Platinum. That’s not a bad deal.

  • There is no reason this isn’t on the Vita as well.

  • Great!

@Ryan Phillips: Any chance I can get a code for Legasista to review the game for PS3blog.net?

  • Looks like a fun game. Not sure if I’ll be day one buying or not, but I’m sure I’ll end up with it sooner rather than later.

    Already have Mugen Souls pre-ordered.

Personally, one of my favourite things in some of the NISA games is that they are/can be a grindfest. Sometimes that’s exactly what I want from a rpg, and it doesn’t seem as common these days.

Any game I can grind for hours in, is also a game I can play while listening to music/watching tv/sports etc… if I don’t mind losing in game sounds.

    Yay NISA.

  • Will Legasista be available on the Vita in the anytime in the foreseeable future?

    • Hi Jesszman,

We don’t have any plans for a Vita release for this at the current moment. It would look pretty awesome on a Vita though! If we have any news on that we’ll definitely be back to chat about it!

      Thanks!

      Ryan

  • Ryan, can you comment on the Amazon price of The Witch and the Hundred Knights dropping from $49.99 to $39.99 recently? Is this an official price drop?
I don’t mind less expensive games, but in the case of something like The Witch and the Hundred Knights, which I was really looking forward to, a price drop like this does affect the ‘perceived quality’ of the title (much like what happened with The Cursed Crusade by Atlus, which dropped in price before release and turned out to be terrible).

    • Hi boxmyth,

Thanks for pointing this out! This is a special offer through Amazon.com at the moment. At launch the game is set to sell for $49.99 (standard retail) at retailers. I’m not exactly sure how long it will be up for preorder at this price, but it’s a great deal!

I can assure you that the current lower price has no correlation to the perceived quality of the game.

      All the best,

      Ryan

  • I am really eager to play a new rpg game. But i really think $29.99 is very overpriced, considering no effort was put into english dubbing and the animations look limited. There are other psn rpgs that also offer a lengthy experience at a reasonable price (Rainbow Moon).
Will PS Plus members get any discount at all? Also will there at least be a demo available for the game?

    • Hi Ryumoau,

Thank you for your feedback for Legasista. Unfortunately at the moment there is not a demo available. A lot of factors do weigh in when we decide not to dub a title, and it just wasn’t possible for Legasista. At the moment I’m not quite sure if there will be a PS Plus member discount, so I will have to get back to you on that.

      Best,

      Ryan

  • Few Questions:
    1: Price?
    2: Length?
    3: Bosses?
    4: Depth of Customization?

    Thanks.

    • Hi ZereoX,

      1) $29.99
      2) For standard playthrough 10+ hours – before rangeons
      3) Some levels have larger than normal mobs that are more difficult to defeat, so in that sense there are bosses.
      4) There is a lot of customization for the characters & character creation. Shortly there will be video walkthroughs and reviews that go over them on the web ^^

      Thanks!

      Ryan

  • Btw, my last comment was about Legasista. As far as Mugen Souls is concerned, i really find the whole ‘Moe’ culture very off putting and the video for it gives me vibes of Neptunia which had some of the most obnoxiously cliche and boring characters i’ve ever encountered.
But i’m sure some people are into games that shallow. So to each their own, i guess.

  • @13

Legasista is a full PS3 game that they are just releasing digitally because its far too niche to dub and give a physical release to. They could easily charge 60 bucks here since it was full price in Japan, but they aren’t. You should be happy its only 30 bucks.

  • will buy when released on vita

  • @16
i had no idea this was a full retail game in japan. That makes things worse. Japanese gamers shouldn’t have had to pay full price for this type of game either!

  • Excellent, I will be buying this. This game seems like a good candidate for PS3/VITA Crossplay

  • Also on the topic of Mugen Souls, I already have the 100 dollar Premium Edition preordered. I can’t wait for it!

    • Hi RyanSaotome,

Thank you for your support! We’re definitely excited to see how much everyone enjoys the game!

      Best,

      Ryan

  • Looks awesome. Can’t wait to play it. Already have Mugen Souls pre-ordered. Nothing wrong with a good grind, as long as the gameplay is fun and interesting. Looking forward to more great games from NIS. Excited for “Witch and the Hundred Knights” too.

  • Of course it’s not on the Vita. Sony gave up on that handheld a while ago. We’re lucky to get PSOne games if that would ever happen. And they won’t respond to questions about the Vita. Just let it go and trade it in while it’s still worth something.

  • Wow! 30 BUCKS!? I love JRPGs but I’m sorry this game just doesn’t look like a $ 30 game. I will wait until it cost 15 bucks.

  • Prinny <333 PRINNY FOR PLAYSTATION BATTLE ROYALE!! :D

    • Greetings UnleashedMonkey!

That would be totally awesome, dood! We haven’t heard any news yet though on that one.

      Have a great night!

      Ryan

  • this game look more like a mini game.

hope it will drop to 15~20 bucks.

and… what’s about the Mugen Soul censorship you guys talking about?

  • Legasista looks great. Question about importing other NIS characters though: will we able to import characters from Hyperdimension Neptunia? Would love to play through this with Neptune.

  • @10 I agree with you, grinding is not bad at all I do the same.

@ Ryan, why not made this also for Vita? I would love to play it on the vita while watching anime on the crunchyroll app, the same I do with my Disgaea 3.

There are plans to port Disgaea 4 as well? and other NIS games? because I believe your games are the best, I have almost all: Hyperdimension Neptunia, Xedge, Disgaea 3, 4 (On PS3) Disgaea 4 on vita and so many others, I’ll love to play them on the vita, at least in remote play, is this possible?

Best regards from one of NIS biggest fans

  • Another wish: Disgaea and Disgaea 2 for Vita

    • Hi Sowulo,

Thank you for your comments and for purchasing so many of our titles! Unfortunately we were not able to get this title to be remote-play friendly. If in the future we can get it on the Vita, I’ll definitely let you know!

At the moment we have a lot of cool stuff planned for next year, so unfortunately I don’t have any news of any further ports of our previously released games to the Vita. Again if we do, you know I’ll be back to chat about it, dood!

      Best,

      Ryan

  • I would have liked to know the price, If it’s under $20 I’ll buy it right away.

  • lol no vita support

  • I would love to play this on the Vita

  • Is Mugen Souls going to be censored?

  • @cano74 God I hope so.

  • This is such a no brainer insta-buy, it’s not even funny.

  • Wait, they censored it for the US audience? God I hope not. I AM 35 FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!

  • Game looks awesome…but $30 might too much for me. I will definitely pick this up after a price drop though.

  • I almost freaked out when I did not see this game on the drop this morning. I’m picking it up tomorrow no matter how much it costs to support these kinds of games coming out in the states. I love the beautiful hand drawn 2D graphics. I haven’t seen a new title with this kind of gameplay in a long time. I don’t mind grinding when I’m in the mood for it either.

  • @32 and 35

Yes they censored Mugen Souls for the North American audience. It is why I cancelled my pre-order and imported it. But now if the game was about flaying the skin off of young looking characters and wearing it as a hat, it would have no problems in America apparently.

  • I agree that there’s no reason not to also put this on the Vita. The independent fellow doing Retro City Rampage said that putting a game onto the Vita is technically very easy by comparison. I look forward to the day when games like this are put on the Vita where I would love to play RPGs with graphics like this.

  • ill be 2 busy playing fall of cybertron 2 care

  • @2 Techni-I can go from level 1-9999 in 10 seconds in Disgaea 3 and 4. Once you get far enough, levels are easy.

To NISA – Yes 5000円 =$63, but $30 is still too high for what the game is, even for me, an avid NISA supporter.

And a heads up, Mugen Souls PS3 – Limited Edition plus Figure Set has less than 50% stock left, preorder soon before they’re all gone!

    http://store.nisamerica.com/Games/Mugen-Souls-Limited-Edition-plus-Figure-Set

  • A heads up, The Witch and the Hundred Knights on Amazon is a preorder price incentive. Amazon does this all the time. It is not a price drop. I got the Official PS3 Headset for $59.99 instead of $99.99 through a preorder price guarantee. I would still rather order directly from NISA for the Collectors Edition, preorder bonuses and free shipping. Plus I earn points on all purchases, I have a $5 coupon with it’s name on it since I preordered Mugen Souls PS3 – Limited Edition plus Figure Set.

  • I think I’ll buy it next month =D But I have some questions…

    1) Will Legasista have a platinium trophy?

    And out of this context:

    2) You will release the first hyperdimension neptunia game in psn? ( Because this game is very difficult to find in my country, in 6 months i have never found it in any store =X)

Sorry for my bad english XD And I’ll be happy if I recieve an answer ^^

    • Hello Vdemyx,

      1) Legasista will have a platnium trophy!

      2) Unfortunately we don’t have plans to release the first Hyperdimension Neptunia on PSN at this point. Hopefully this is something we can do in the future, but at the moment I don’t have any news on that.

      I hope this helps!

      Ryan

  • I love Nisa stuff, but unless it’s on physical media, you’ve lost a sale.
Try considering all of your audience next time guys.

  • If this game is released on vita I would definitely buy!!!

  • Awesome, I cannot wait. Definitely buying this game tomorrow since I love EVERY NIS America published game and anime.

Thanks for making this post like you said you were Ryan (I was the one who approached you between panels at Otakon 2012 saying how I remembered your PS Blog posts).

    • Hey ManaKnight!

Thanks so much for the support and for being an awesome fan!

Also it was great meeting you at Otakon! The panels were definitely fun and it was great meeting fans from the East Coast! I hope you had a blast at the rest of the con – we had to fly back out later that day to CA ><

      Have a great night, dood!

      Ryan

  • $30?, Oh Darn. Also, will there be avatars?

    • Hi Pedro408sanjose!

At the moment no avatars are planned, but maybe it’s something we could work on in the future!

      Best,

      Ryan

  • Wow 30$ is a lot more than I expected when I saw the trailer/images for this game.

And hearing MS got censored sucks.

But I’d rather have a censored game and support NISA than an import.

I probably will buy this on release despite the high price just to support them now that I’ve thought about it.

Anything that makes NISA money hopefully increases the odds of more games coming over.

  • wow….are people actually whining about them cutting out useless scenes of underage animated girls doing things? Is that really what the NISA fanbase has become?
Reading things like this just makes me embarrased to have any interest in some of these jrpgs. I enjoy the NISA games because of the fun gameplay, not the bland oversexualized cardboard teeny boppers that qualify as ‘characters’ in some of their games.
If the content cut has nothing to do with the actual gameplay, why do you care?

  • I shall pick up Legasista when I can.

Also will there be an available soundtrack to download for Legasista? The music is so beautiful and smoothing.

    • Hi AmaterasuOkam1,

I too would love to own some of this music, it’s pretty catchy! At the moment we don’t have any plans to release a soundtrack, but if we do we’ll definitely say so in our website’s newsletter!

      Have a great night!

      Ryan
