PlayStation Store Highlights

PlayStation Store Update 8-21-2012

This week is jam-packed with games of all shapes and sizes, so you’re bound to find something you like. If you’re a Transformers fan you’ll be happy to see that the latest retail offering, Fall of Cybertron, is available the day it launches – in other words, right now. If you’re wavering on whether or not to get it, the fact that you can make your own Transformer might help you decide. Seriously.

Let’s just say for argument’s sake that you hate robots (you monster), but love team-based shooters. You’re in luck. Counter Strike: Global Offensive is the newest iteration of the classic franchise, so regardless if you’re a retired pro or a beginner, now’s a good time to get involved in the community. It’s the last title in the PSN PLAY promotion, which also means that this is the last week to purchase games and earn PlayStation Store credit back. Read more about the event by clicking here.

PlayStation Plus members are receiving exclusive access to the DUST 514 beta this week and can purchase downloadable content for the title at half price. There are discounts galore this week, including: Counter Strike: Global Offensive, a plethora of Natsume PSP titles, and an interesting bundle with Plants vs. Zombies and High Stakes Poker.

  • Will you guys ever lower the price for Valkyria Chronicles 2 for the Playstation Portable please? I’ve been waiting for a price drop and it’s been a year or so since it’s release and I want to buy it so I can play it on the Playstation Vita. It’s relatively cheap now in stores but I can’t play it on a Vita unless it’s in digital form. I never really made a request in the comment section, but I thought I’d give it a whirl…

    A girl can dream, can’t she? :/

  • Why do EU PSN Plus members get the best games and US gets crappy games?I bought PSN+ for a whole year and if this is how you do it I will never renew it so you better listen to us Sony because we are the customers ,if you want our money you better bring all the games EU customers get.

  • Thanks again for another stellar update Morgan and team!

Speaking of team, welcome aboard Kristine! =)

  • @Kristine (response to #35)

Well, yeah. I want to play the full game trial to see if I like the game, but I’ve heard trials permanently add the game to a player’s trophy list. It’s a minor thing, I admit, but I’d rather not have my trophy list filled with games that I might end up not liking. I might end up hating CS:GO, but it would be stuck on my trophy list forever, and I know that would annoy me.

I just wish there was a way around it, like being able to delete the trophies, not add the trophies in the first place, or just having the option to try the game on a different profile.

  • huh WAIT, there is no Episode 3 of Walking Dead?!! C’mon! Telltale games told us that they will releasing it in mid August, the next store update would be next week and that is the last week for this month jeez… -.- anyway downloading my CSGO :)

  • So, why does the Michael Jackson full game trial appear under “New Arrivals” in the PS+ section of the Store, yet the Counter-strike: GO trial does not?

  • Why is the vita game more expensive than the PS3 one? Makes no sense. Also it should be cross buy.

  • It says:

    Last Chance (Leaving on 8/28)

Malicious (20% off) – PS Plus Price $7.99
RESIDENT EVIL CHRONICLES: HD COLLECTION BUNDLE (10% off) – PS Plus Price $24.29

But couldn’t find them in the expiring soon section.

  • Gungrave!!!! yeah!!! finally came to psn. seriously, good old times

  • This month is stacked! I wish I was jobless so I can finish these games. No, not really about the jobless part lol. I regret not ever buying MGS 2 over 10 years ago, now I finally get a chance to play 2 and 3 on my PS3. Also, CS GO is out too and I still haven’t tried out Papo & Yo yet. It’s gonna be so hard to find time for all of these games lol.

  • Now we need Peace walker on the store
BTW, WHERES MY MGS4 AVATARS? can you guys tell konami im waiting for them a long time ago plz?

  • Way of the Samurai 4, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure HD, Metal Gear Solid 2/3 HD Edition!!!!!

since GUNGRAVE OVERDOSE is being release on PSN.

what about the first game?? Samurai Champloo Sidetrack by Grasshopper Manufacturer, Shinobido by Acquire!!!

    more PS2 rare games please!!!!

  • So why in the hell would MGS games be $20 each for Vita but $15 each on PSN? Same games, just one is portable and you want to milk that? The Vita is lacking IMO in quality games and you pull this kind of BS? FFS Sony this is ridiculous charging more for the same games on Vita just because it’s the Vita. Or am I missing something here do they come with extras the PSN versions don’t?

  • I’m curious about Crazy Strike Bowling. Does it have trophies?

  • WHAT THE HELL?!!!! THIS IS DISCRIMINATION!!! AMERICA GETS COUNTER STRIKE: GLOBAL OFFENSIVE AND EUROPE GETS NOTHING???!!!!! WHY? SOME OF US DON’T HAVE PC’S GOOD ENOUGH TO RUN IT AND TO KNOW THAT THERE IS NO PLANS TO RELEASE IT ON THE EUROPEAN PS STORE IS JUST WRONG!!!!!! EUROPEANS DESERVE TO GAME ALSO! WE DON’T GET HALF OF THE DLC CONTENT AMERICANS GET AND WE ARE OKAY WITH THAT. BUT TO KNOW THAT A GAME IS NOT BEING RELEASE FOR US BUT IT IS BEING RELEASED IN AMERICA IS JUST WRONG. SHAME ON YOU, SONY. SHAME ON YOU…

  • Is there a possible way to get Destroy All Humans! 2 on PSN?

  • $10 more for both MGS games on Vita compared to PSN?? I blame my fellow gamers for actually paying these ridiculous digital prices for games. These companies wouldn’t bother to pull this insulting crap if there weren’t suckers out there actually paying more than they have to for these games. Why pass the savings back to the customer if there are suckers willing to pay these inflated prices?

  • Fantastic update – Gungrave is a great surprise, very nice choice indeed! Legasista, JoJo and the TF DLC are also very welcome.

    More like this please team!

  • @Grace Chen, Jeff Rubenstien, or anyone who will listen!

I’m a little sick of having Games pushed out to my system for auto updates that I don’t want. I just booted up my Ps3 and found Avatar The Game, CSGO, and LBPK Beta pushed out to my system. I like PS+ for its auto patches, auto trophy syncing, auto download of firmware, auto pushing my saves up to the cloud, etc. But I hate having these games pushed out with no option to opt out. I say Opt Out because I can’t CHOOSE which GAMES I WANT to have pushed onto my system. I would love to pre-order something on the PlayStation Store, come home weeks later to find say Darksiders II already downloaded onto my system. Or to have that free game or beta I wanted in on already downloaded after I sit down for the evening after cleaning up after dinner. I do not want to sit down in from of my PlayStation 3 and find 2 out of 3 things auto downloaded onto my system so I can spend 10 minutes of my time uninstalling them just so I can install the game I just downloaded myself. Key here is game I downloaded myself here as well, could have preordered Legasista, MGS, or Gungrave over the past 5 days and not a damned one of them is on my PS3 already.

    • ready for good news? You can actually select to turn off “demos and games’ from your auto update settings. This way it just keeps the auto download to trophy syncs, patches, and so on.

System Settings –> Auto Update and turn off Games and demos.

  • Im a PS Plus user but I already bought the mercenary pack for Dust 514.

Buying the mercenary pack didnt do anything for me buying it early. Man I feel ripped

  • So the PS3 version of MGS 2 & 3 are $5 cheaper then the Vita version…. lmao And you wonder why the Vita struggles to get any sales. I have loved my Vita but you guys make it hard to support.

  • Any chance of a PS+ discount on Legasista??

  • SNAAAAAAAAAKKKKE!

  • Doesn’t that suck mgs 2 & 3 hd more expensive on vita and I really wanted to buy it.

  • You know, I don’t think I ever got that code for the missing DLC for the Super Stardust bundle…

  • Been waiting for Plants vs Zombies discount for a looooonnng time, even if it goes free in a month or two for PS+ subscribers, which i have a feeling it will, im still buying it now!!

  • Counter Strike: Global Offensive playable with Mouse & Keyboard. That’s a game I will never play, just for that reason.

  • only good thing on there is the dust beta. which I have been in since april.
I can’t wait to kill PS3 nubs who suck at shooters though, the PC kiddies are getting old.

the dust mercanary pack is a decent deal and I will probably pick that up not that I think about it

  • Why do none of the new minis work on the Vita?

  • What happened to Pulse? I miss Christina Lee!!

  • I want to go shopping at American PS Store! Please, accept the brazilian American Express International!

  • @110, kasa- chances are the current price scheme will remain unchanged for the PS1 update. If anything, we might see more sales now that more PS1 titles will be Vita ready.

Time to outdo my PC KD ratio on CS:GO! Headshots only, hehe…(=

  • @179, cmdr- I expected her to have a great show during Gamescom. Maybe she’s on holiday; everyone needs to getaway! ;D

  • @178, super- yes, 90% of the mini games do not work. Some do though, Google it & ye shall find!

  • Hey Morgan just to let you know I also didn’t get the CS:GO demo automatically downloaded to my system. Yes I have the auto update features all turned on so it wasn’t anything on my side. My system did update the patch for Max Payne, uploaded my game saves, and did my trophy sync but for some reason the CS:GO demo didn’t download. No big deal since I won’t be buying the game anyways but I thought I would let you know that it did happen to other people.

  • Why the vita version of MGS is higher than PS3 ؟
its less size but high price ?

  • it says buy the vita game and get the ps3 version at no cost! so how come i don’t get the ps3 version of rayman? is there something i’m missing or what?

  • Another average week for Plus IMO. I do miss the days when we would get mixed freebies (avatars, themes, MINI’s). Mainly because I knew I wouldn’t already own them and it would be something for my monthly payment.

    This would make us happy:

    [ [ [ O N E ] ] ]
FIX YOUTUBE (As many people are reporting… It skips like mad and no keyboard support doesn’t make sense).
The skipping just makes it plain unwatchable. I would rather go back to the 240p web browser to watch videos, but…. I CAN’T ANY LONGER. :(

    [ [ [ T W O ] ] ]
Increase the Cloud Saves. If for nothing else so I don’t have to turn on my PS3 and see “The following couldn’t be saved” message over and over again. Some game saves are taking up over 10MB on their own.. 150MB just isn’t much these days.

Let us alphabetize our games and sort our Download List. It’s a nightmare trying to find anything with over
1,000 downloads. It doesn’t make sense that we can sort our trophies alphabetical, but not our games.
    What gives?!

I’d really like to hear from Morgan or Kristine on this.. Come on guys. We are your fans here, help us out! :)

  • @luvtoseek, (#181)- lol…I said that as a sarcasm, but yes I hope so, I said this before but..the ps1 games will help with the wait of new vita games to release.

  • Morgan, I hear what you’re saying about feedback takin a while. However, people have been complaining for a little while now about the Plus content. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve gotten my $50 worth and then some. But it sucks that the EU subscribers are getting an even better deal for the same price. Seriously, what games have we gotten here to compare to Dues Ex, Dead Space 2, and Borderlands? These are top notch AAA games that we just don’t see here. What’s up with that? EU Plus is looking more enticing every month. Oh yeah, where’s the Neocom app for Vita?

  • @175 Coda05,
I doubt that Plants Vs Zombies will be free on PS plus within the next two month because it was free on playstation plus a long time ago,and I don’t recall seeing a free game on playstation plus offered more then once as free. So I would go ahead and buy it. Which was in september of 2011 just google

plants vs zombies free ps plus
It will be the second link
and you will see the blog post so thats why I think it safe to buy that it wont be offered free again.

  • I don’t see the Malicious discount you listed for plus…:(

  • All plus members should learn to wait a little, that’s what I do. I see plus members here complaining of games they bought before that are now for free. Learn to wait a litte, PSPlus might discount them or give them for free.

  • really no legend of legaia yet? when will its time come?

  • Good update on the PlayStation Store, a question…

Is it going to be long for the psp game: Midway Arcade Treasures: extended play, available for the ps vita?

  • is EA Sports Central only for the ps3 .ilooked on my vita and saw nothing?

  • I can’t believe how slow the game speed is for NHL 13. This is a huge letdown!

  • @Morgan Haro

Really wish you guys had made that clear in your system updates history.

Still doesn’t fix my second problem though. Sony really should implement an option to allow me to choose things I want auto downloaded from the store. If I want Killzone stuff I should be able to flag it on the store, if i pre-order a game I should be able to download it things like that.

Anyway thanks for the help I had no idea it was buried in the date time setup for the Automatic Update options.

  • The Playstation plus whiners need to stop now, it’s annoying and defeats any arguments you may have. First off, you’re paying roughly $4 a month, if you don’t feel you’ve received that value yet, please don’t renew. Second, and finally, before E3, free games were a rarity and no one whined about not getting more games/free games, etc. but they decided to give plus people more and you’ve rewarded them with more complaining than before. So before free games = less whining, now you get free games = more complaints and cancellation threats. You’re singlehandedly making your customer base out to be one they can’t win with and they will not keep trying.

  • No NFL Sunday Ticket? Will it even come out this year? Great update nonetheless! I wish they’d tell me if NFL Sunday Ticket is releasing this year.
