  • Come on guys, Borderlands is years old. Why put that one up? For people like me who own the game, we’ve owned it for YEARS now. PS Plus, since it has been “revamped” has gotten significantly worse. Yeah, we got that big instant game collection back in June, which was cool. But…we already downloaded those games, right? So it’s not like we feel like we have this constant big instant game collection (since those games we download in June are just on our PS3 now, just like any other game we had downloaded free from Plus before). What’s happening is that we are getting significantly LESS each month from Plus, and the instant game collection was a clever way to deceive us into thinking that we are getting more.

Don’t believe me? Look at the PS Plus preview for May. Look at it for April. Same for March, etc. They have way more free content before this “revamp”. I, meanwhile, feel more and more inclined to cancel my auto-renewal.

    • it’s important to note that we used to do monthly updates only; therefore the content was more ‘packed’. these update are currently every two weeks, and by their nature, hold less content that the monthly views. so it’s a bit of unbalanced comparison.

  • @98 I’m with you on the THPS discount tomorrow. I really hope so. It’s the first psn game I’ve seen in a while that I have to buy day one.

@93 Yes, Borderlands has coop voice chat, although it can be unreliable sometimes. The multiplayer can be a pain in the ass sometimes but the game is well worth it!

  • Well this really really sucks.

The last update before my Plus expires and we get: A game I’ve owned for a YEAR!!!! (and can be bought most places for 10$ or so)

This means every PS3 Rental so far except R&C is one I’ve owned. Every PSN Rental game has either been one I bought day one, or one I have ZERO interest in.

In the meantime the EU Plus gets way better content.

I can’t believe I wasted 20$ on a 3 month subscription. I could have bought and forever owned a copy of R&C all 4 one for less than that. (the only game so far in 3 months worth getting for me).

Will you ever offer Plus on a month to month basis/charge for one month at a time?

Not only has the quantity of the content taken a massive dive (Qore, themes, avatars, etc..), but ever since the first update with the new plus, the quality has been terrible as well. Especially compared to the EU staff who seem to mostly do it right.

If you’re going to only give us random OLD GAMES for RENTAL, then please give us several to choose from. The current plus (pre cloud expansion) literally has nothing to offer me now, and I want to give you my money!

  • I know this might sound stupid, but Borderlands will have all the dlc for free?

  • For the record I use to absoluetly love Plus and I was proud to be a member and tell my friends to join up.

Ever since the drastic Plus change, and the far better service the EU is getting, I feel like being a plus member = getting bad-loved with my pants on.

  • I’m sorry, I’m not one to come here to complain, but what was all that about not letting “THIS” happen again?? And by “this” I mean “giving for free games that have already been given with discounts once and again”. BloodRayne, Outland, and now Borderlands, all within a month, and all got plus discounts in the past; and guess what… I bought them at that moment! Either I’ll have to stop falling for discounts or stop paying for Plus; and with all the recent disappointments, I guess Plus is losing.

  • Will there be any more Sega games on sale for everyone, other than Daytona and Space Channel 5 part 2?

  • Bah! I can’t catch a break.

Borderlands: yet another game I already own. In fact 70% of the games offered since July I have owned.
The value in Plus is no longer worth it I feel, and October 4th my yearly sub ends.

Suffice it to say, I won’t be renewing. At least until all of the current line-up of games are gone. Maybe January?

Anyway, I’ll buy Spelunker HD at the discount as a parting gift from you guys.

Looking forward to Big Sky Infinity, and Europe is getting it free. Maybe I’ll get an EU plus sub instead. They seem to keep coming up with great Plus games.

  • @broomskickbhg

We are on exactly the same level. I didn’t read your post until I posted mine, but this is how I feel too.

  • Morgan:

I know not everyone is upset, plenty of people will be getting to try new games.

But after a look at the replies here it’s pretty darn obvious (just like most weeks) that the NA Plus community is very upset with the current plus direction. Not everyone sure, but there wouldn’t be dozens of people posting every week to complain if there wasn’t a good reason to do so.

There have also been members we’ve already seen who continue to post, with the + symbol gone from the avatar, showing you proof that the current system is losing you customers.

I want the PS3 to kick the crud out of the other systems and for a while, Plus was helping to do that. Now it’s making people want to play other consoles, or just give up on plus. Either way these are bad things for Sony/Plus.

I have no interest in being negative to be negative, I want Plus to be great so I can give Sony more money. I know there’s only so much you can do (mostly pass along information). Is there someone else concerned Plus members should contact to voice our concerns?

And seriously, make plus buyable one month at a time. That would keep me a member for now even though I hate the current version of Plus.

  • Will Borderlands 2 be available to buy via PSN on Release Day? Also, if it is, will it include the Premier Club with all those bonuses?

  • and BTW, who gets to choose which games are going onto the Playstation Plus lineup? Cause whoever does, does a piss poor job at it. I mean I’m not hating on PS+, its kinda like a double edge sword, there is some good stuff that comes onto the PS+ lineup, and they’re games that just don’t need to be or I already own this/that game. There should be a rating system that can let people decide on what games should be for free or discounted.

  • While I haven’t picked up many of the free plus titles recently as I have already purchased them or am just not interested, I would like to applaud you on the work you are doing. I understand that you can’t make everyone happy with every update and I accept that, but it is clear that you are trying to add value to the customer with these updates. Plus is a great value and as long as you keep doing what you are doing and trying to improve the service you will win over a lot of customers.

On a side note, I know that EU regions received a temporary price break on a Plus subscription for the month following GamesCom, any similar promotion going to happen in the US soon? :)

  • @vanwinkle
You realize that at the time Sony was giving way more than they promised, right? They only had to give away 1 PS3 games, 1 PSN game, and 2 Minis, but they went above and beyond expectations. It’s an unfair comparison.

  • I have halted all my Vita game purchases until Plus is available. I don’t want to risk buying full price to find out I could get a discount days (or weeks) later…

  • Sony I wanna give you a hug, borderlands is the best thing you can ever give me. I love you!!! Man I feel really sorry for xbox players lol.

  • Hey, updates sound great, but is it possible to get a countdown to when your PS PLUS subscription is set to expire???? Would be really helpful.

  • With my surging interest in action RPGs this year, Borderlands is right up my alley (had never really considered it before). I’m very pleased with this month’s offering, and I’m hopeful that the Borderlands DLC bundle with 50% discount will be less than what the GOTY version of this game often sells for ($20).

  • Has anyone ever considered that the US PS+ might purposely try not to have the same games/deals as the EU PS+, due to the fact that there are gamers (and possibly more soon) that subscribe to both? Cause really, if you pay $100/year to have both programs, you’d never run out of free games, and the discounts would be insane.
So really, don’t expect a lot of what comes out on the EU program to end up on the US program, at least not within the first 4-6 months.

As for this update, very nice. I might buy some of those discounted titles just because they’re so cheap. As for Borderlands, I may have to check and see if my save files will work with the digital version. I’ve already platted the game, so I could see replacing my physical copy with a digital one. Free up some space on my game shelf. Thanks, Sony/PS+!

  • @ heisLaharl: Just look at any content you’ve downloaded for free. It should have an “Expires on” date in the Information tab. Or go into Account Management > Transaction Management > Services List. It’s all on your system already.

  • Im interested in getting ps plus but i have a question, if i buy a game thats lets say 19.99 regular and 9.99 for ps plus when my ps plus membership expires will i lose the game or be able to keep it after the membership expired??

  • I knew it, i knew it, i knew it!! I was waiting for this game in PS+ and now is finally here!! Now, my hopes are high for Deus Ex:HR to finally arrive too!!!

  • good update all around, but i wanted to know when we are going to get the resident evil 6 demo. Is there a date for ps+ members??

  • If I “SAVE” $4.99 by buying Spelunker HD with my playstation plus and it is free next month like the last 3 games that I have purchased. Shank for example which was half off then free the next week. Sony should have a system setup that gives you a credit for the difference. They can’t be lacking that far behind in the IT department, that was one of the first things we learned at school. I will be done purchasing stuff on playstation and get whatever comes free from Plus. Too many times have I purchased a game that Plus was supposed to save me money on and not even 2 months later it is free to plus users. The smart person would just get plus whenever games they wanted went up, beat them let the subscription end and wait until the next good batch comes up. I was stupid and am stuck until 2015. Plus is one of the best things Sony has done and has way surpassed expectations for content, but their execution is horrible. Sony’s biggest flaw like most companies is trying to get new people and not helping the loyal.

  • Europe wins another month. They already got Borderlands this month and now they’re getting Red Dead Redemption for September.

  • @120 Any games you buy discounted with the PS Plus membership is yours to keep, regardless of whether or not your subscription ends. Only the completely free games become unavailable to play after your subscription ends.

  • Uhm, just one game?

Where is Deadspace 2, Darksiders, Motorstorm, etc?

Morgan, can we get some rules and structure in here?

Look at the European service. It is better on every front:

    -Reliable

    -Predictable

-Rules on what comes when and what to expect

-Awesome value, and constant quality content updates.

Now look at the US one:

    -No structure whatsoever.

-Random updates, of completely random quality.

-God knows what is coming, or when.

-Steadily dropping value, and low morale off a much inferior selection.

I honestly don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel. Can we get whoever is in charge of PSN Plus Europe to come handle US PS+?

At this point, I’m done recommending the service, and considering dropping it altogether (and It would be gone was I not subscribed for the year).

This is becoming a joke in all the internet hangouts and for good reason: No value, random updates, constantly letting down the already low expectations.

Seriously, get the Europe guys. They know what they are doing. Ask them for help, increase their salary, and give them the US service because whoever is handing it is running it into the ground, fast.

  • @123 thats nothing. i bought Just Cause 2 for $15 a week before they gave us the 12 free games for PS Plus. They didn’t bother announcing that games like it and Infamous 2 would be free the following week, leading many people to waste money. :(

  • GRRRRR..i usually don’t complain on here about what is offered for free ,but in my move to take my whole collection digital i sold off my blu ray copy of borderlands ,and spent the 30 bux on the ultimate edition on PSN just 2 weeks ago…now the freaking thing is free…grrrrr

  • It’s unbelievable.

I know there is that saying: you can’t please everyone, but this is ridiculous.

You don’t give them PS3 Full game, they complain.

You give them PS3 Full game, they complain.

What do they want? Seriously? It’s getting tiresome that week after week they just continue to complain and complain and complain and complain and complain.

Here’s two suggestions for the brass, Morgan.

    1) Ask these complainers what they want. Exactly what they want. List it. Give it to them. Just one month.

    2) If the people who complains prefer the old Plus is more than the people who does not complain who prefers the new Plus, then bring the old Plus back. I am happy either way. As of today, I have received more than what I paid for from Sony and am very happy with whichever direction Plus is going. And oh, I joined for two years in a row.

  • Dead Island Digital Edition to the IGC!!!! Please?!!!!

  • @129 we want a discount on everything in the psn store. That would please us all. :P

  • Have Borderlands from last year’s deal. Bummer..

  • I guess getting this game for free is okay. I never owned the game but I did tried it on PC and I liked it. I don’t I’ll be planning to get the DLC since I’m not really into the game whatsoever. It would have been better if it was either Red Dead Redemption or Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Should make the next full PS3 game, an RPG.

  • Great news, I just hope borderlands doesn’t weight too much lol, I only have like 15gb left, out of 40gb!

  • Really considering subbing to EU + instead. I really hope they deliver in Mid September. Maybe a discount on Tokyo Jungle, or even for free? I don’t know lol. I just don’t want to be disappointed again. Please? Maybe?

  • @AizawaYuuichi

Have you considered that Sony is currently in 3rd place in the US marketplace and as such has less pull than they do in Europe where they are #1? It’s easier to go to 2kGames and say PS3 is #1 in the market if you let us promote Borderlands (example) as a Plus title if there is a 25% buy through for DLC expect to make 2 million from sales on DLC (just an example). The numbers and buying power favor EU, the numbers who have both is likely only triple digits.

    @Biocross,

The service is structured for updates. Morgan and crew post bi-weekly on Monday’s what is coming the following week to PS Plus. It’s been solid for a few months now since E3. What the content is, however hasn’t been.

    @Morgan,

Just another vote for more themes please.

  • Nice a game I got 3 weeks ago when I got my eu account only one addition at this time awesome y not give 3 free games at once. Abducted any word on wd episode 3

  • @134 I think its about 3.3GB for the vanilla.

  • I’m not going to rage like others here, instead just make a simple suggestion, as I heard they are always welcome.

Borderlands is a rather old game, and many of us already have played it. I think it’s a great idea that when it’s an older full game, we should get a free smaller PSN or Mini for those that already have it. However, if it’s a rather newer title, then I can understand just one free download.

A perception most of us Plus memebers look at is the free stuff and not too much on the discounted price. Even some free DLC is welcome, as I haven’t seen that in a while.

Still, I have a 1 year and my $50 is more than paid off for Just Cause 2, R&C All for One, LBP2, and whatnot, so I’m still a happy player.

  • @Crusher201, how is it an unfair comparison? What difference does it make that they were only obliged to give a minimum if they DID give far more? We used to get a lot more, and now we get a lot less. Them only having to give a certain amount away has nothing to do with it; what they DO give away is what matters.

  • Hey Morgan,

I remember asking you a long time ago about why the Original Twisted Metal (PS1) hasn’t been released onto the PSN yet, but I never heard back from you. I don’t know whether it’s licensing issue or, emulation problems or what, but I’m hoping you could look into it because I don’t know where else to turn to find out why and/or request it’s release here on the PSN.

  • I like seeing that the Vita is getting some plus love plus the added online storage doubling the live amount but what happened to supporting the indie devs with your monthly mini releases for plus members that just disappeared. I hope to see mini games being brought back especially if the Vita is getting plus support it would just make sense no?

  • Also sadly I already own Spelunker HD and Daytona USA, it seems like those of us who buy early are still getting the raw end of it. I’d suggest that when you put a game out on PS + for free you also allow us to be able to purchase it for a discount (i.e. 30% off) at the same time. Because for example I know I wanted to buy Trine 2, but then got it for free in PS+. I enjoyed it and wanted to buy it so when it went on sale later, I was still a PS + subscriber and so it wouldn’t let me while it was on sale. So I missed out on the sale because I was a PS+ member. Just seems a little backwards to me and I wish you guys would look into this, because it’s really annoying.

  • I got Borderlands + all the dlc for $20 last year when it was on sale for Plus, but this is still a fantastic choice for a free plus game Should’ve came out sooner tho imo so people could get hooked for the sequel

If I may make a suggestion, but whenever there is a game that has dlc, could you give that game’s dlc at a discounted price? It happens sometime, but not always. Sure the game may be free, so some may consider that the discount, but the game isn’t owned.

  • I’m not quiet sure what’s the point of getting PS+ with 40GB hard drive only… But ok, it’s not my problem.
I never played Borederlands so I’m pretty happy with the update. Can’t wait

  • Borderlands is cool. The Walking Dead episodes are amazing, and indie games like Outland, Pac-Man and Bloodrayne as well.

However, when the European updates are getting games like Dead Space 2, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Darksiders, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, plus all the goodies we’ve got so far it’s a little discouraging. Now if these games are close to being on the way, then I’ll keep recommending plus.

One of the best things I thought there was about plus (and I’ve been on board since it started), was the fact that you would get something nearly every week. Even if there wasn’t a huge update, I still enjoyed the cheap minis and sometimes was surprised how fun such a small, simple indie game could be. Then if someone already did have a game like Borderlands (which I’m sure a lot of people do), there is something extra for them, even if it’s small.

Just a suggestion, but I wish you guys would start putting up some kind of poll for which game fans would like to see on the next month of Plus, even if it’s a poll for mini games or free dlc.

  • wow a +3 year old super sold psn ps3 game comes to psplus, that ofcourse i alredy have, wont be renewing psplus on september sony, i would have prefered another little game and i would have rebought psplus but these discounts on lame games just doesnt want me to do it.

  • Finally, a PS3 Full Game!! Not quite my cup of tea though, but hey, I’ll take anything and everything!

That being said, if I register this or any other game (by “register” I mean selecting Download from the games’ Store pages, and completing checkout), and the game is removed from Plus before I have a chance to download it, will I still be able to download the game?

Reason I’m asking is because some of these games are nearing 20GB; therefore it takes all day (and a half for some!) for those games to download on my Wireless-N network (yes I know PS3 doesn’t support N). So unless someone can tell me how to make it go faster (ethernet?), I can’t download these wonderful games!

Storage space is another story….I want to delete Record of Agarest War 2 since the trial is over, but if it suddenly becomes free, I don’t want to have to redownload it….

  • Youhou First retail game since …………………… June

This update will not convince me to come back for psn+ sorry (NAH I am not sorry. Sony need to be sorry about their Fail new psn+ offer) and I presume the others games will be crappy psn title.
No more dynamic theme for psn+ ?
