DIRECTV’S NFL Sunday Ticket Returns to PS3, Launches in September

NFL Sunday Ticket on PS3

Hello PlayStation Nation!

SundayTicket

NFL SUNDAY TICKET is returning in time for the NFL‘s regular season opening weekend on September 9th.

All existing DIRECTV subscribers who have the NFL SUNDAY TICKET MAX plan will be able to download the PS3 application from PlayStation Network for free, and live stream every out-of-market NFL football game every Sunday afternoon this season in full HD.

In addition, you will have access to DIRECTV’S the RED ZONE CHANNEL at no additional charge. RED ZONE delivers the final yards of every scoring drive and other exciting moments from all Sunday afternoon games as they happen, and it’s a great way to stay on top of the day’s highlights.

For all of you fantasy football aficionados, the NFL SUNDAY TICKET app also includes up-to-the-minute stats to help you keep track of every play on the field. If you play NFL.com fantasy, you can follow your fantasy team in real time while watching games Sunday afternoon.

PS3 owners without access to DIRECTV will also be able to receive NFL Sunday Ticket and live stream every out-of-market NFL football game this season for $299.95.

We’re very excited to see the return of the definitive NFL football app on PlayStation Network. Keep an eye out for the launch of NFL SUNDAY TICKET with the PlayStation Store update on September 4th.

  • I’m not complaining about the price, I paid more last season. My beef is the lack of installments this season. They need to figure out a better way of running things.

FYI to tcarrw1 .. so you have 8 home games at least each season X $300 each game = $2400 for 8 games, not including your teams initial PSL fee, and season ticket price, thats more then likely going to set a person pack about 3500 a year to watch a games…I have mortgages and bills to pay, Installment are my only way.

    Sorry , Im rambling…lol

  • I applaud Sony’s effort to bring the NFL Sunday Ticket to the PSN. However, for DirectTV to charge $100 more dollars for the service (for non-DirectTv subscribers) is ridiculous. I used – USED – to be a DirectTV subscriber a few years ago and will never be a customer of theirs again. Almost from day one I regretted switching from cable. The nickel and diming, the ridiculous charges to upgrade equipment, etc. Once you sign their contract they could give two ***** about you. I played holy hell trying to cancel and return my receivers, too. Somehow they managed to get return boxes for my standard receivers but couldn’t, despite repeated calls, get a return box to me for the HD receiver. Then they had the nerve to try and charge my credit card $200 for the unreturned receiver! Well, I disputed the charge and that was that. If they were charging the same price for the Sunday Ticket I would most likely get it, but I’m sick of DirectTv’s greed and will not pay $100 more for a stream. Better luck next year maybe.

  • Slow_hand hit the nail on the head with his theory that the single payment plan seems meant to eliminate the “partial” purchase. I was one of those customers who opted out of the final 3 payments last yr because the picture quality was poor. I VERY much want this product, but I’m not fronting $300 without an assurance that I can obtain a refund (NOT credit) if unsatisfied. And it would need to be an unqualified refund – even if the issue is with my internet feed, I would still expect a refund if I cannot properly use the product. If Sony can provide such an assurance – or preferably, allow me to sample the product before buying – I will happily purchase. I want to act in good faith; I would hope Sony would also.

  • Just spoke a customer service rep, she “claims” as of last week the wallet limit has been raised to $350. Take that for what it’s worth, as sometimes the csr don’t know what they are talking about. We’ll see Wednesday. But for those like me that want to pay without giving them your credit card info, this is what I want to hear.

  • I hope the increase is true. I only use psn cards.

  • I do have to say I’m at least really happy that the service is even being offered. I LOVE the NFL. I just wish the price were a bit lower as unfortunately there’s no way I can afford this while going to college :( but it’s good to see some love for the NFL from Playstation nonetheless. Now we just need some NFL avatars for me to buy :p PLEASE!! There’s MLB team logo avatars, time for NFL team logo avatars :)

  • I have a few comments ,first last year we paid 84.99×4 Total=339.99.Hmmmmmm thats 40 bux less this year.I understand how alot of you may have a problem with the one time fee but i see it this way,if you can afford to shell out 60 bux for a game 85 bux average per month for internet just so that you have the ability to stream, then by golly 300 bux isnt really that much i say BITE THE !@#$% BULLET AND BRING ON THE SEASON !!!!!!

  • AND BY THE WAY ITS THE 4THHHHH WHY CANT I BUY IT YET SAYS NOTHING TO BUY AT THIS TIME AND YES I KNOW IM YELLING YOU MADE ME WAIT TOOOOOOOOOOOO LONGGGGGG SELL MR MY FOOTBALL ALLREADY LOL thank you

  • 2 corrections 1:TOTAL=339.96 AN EVEN BIGGER SAVINGS YEAH 2: ME NOT MY
    THANK YOU!

  • This is a rip off, what happened to the $149.99? I can see if there was the monthly installment plan, but you have to pay $300 up front! I am a huge Lions fan living in Wisconsin and I was almost stupid enough to buy this, what happened to caring about the fans!!!? In this type of economy do you really expect people to pay $300?? I hope this is a complete failure so Sony learns and Direct TV learns a lesson. I will watch the games online for free or find a bar with Direct TV… I bet Microsoft would have a better deal!!

  • when is the psn store gonna update?

  • Just spoke to a Playstation Rep was told as soon as the store updates it will be avalible .Im on the east coast and they are on the west so its only 8:30 am there.Im sure as soon as more people get to work somebody will flip the switch lol.

  • I’ve been looking on my system and I just got a software update but I still am not able to see the app and download it. What could be the problem?

  • Almost 10am MDT…Still not available to purchase/download.

  • Based on how they have worded this, does it mean that if you have DirectTV “AVAILABLE” in your area but you do not subscribe to it, you will not be able to purchase the NFL Sunday Ticket for the PS3? I suppose I could order DirectTV to get it but I have Time Warner for my TV/Internet & I am happy with them. I don’t want to order DirecTV JUST to get the NFL games. I would imagine that DirecTV is available almost everywhere in the US(unless you live in an area that does not allow you to erect a satellite dish).

  • It is worded that way, jrotten. I’ve been told that they will ask you this and just say that it isn’t available and you can still download it. Come on PS Store update!

  • @jrotten…

From everything I have heard the way this works is you buy it through the PS store and simply have to check a box that says “I can’t get directv”. There does not appear to be any type of verification. I think the fact is, they (DTV) waits until this late to announce it, they figure they have captured all the new subscriptions they could…why would they not accept $300 from someone? But if you need to have an excuse ready, I suggest the “Trees are in the way, I am not allowed by HOA/landlord etc. to install a dish. I guess we will find out later today if the process is like last year…good luck.

  • I am a total newb on the workings of all things PS3. I only bought one to do this NFL ticket deal. Can anyone tell me how/when the store updates? Is there a set time? DO I need to do anything? TIA…

  • Why does it cost $50 more to watch on the ps3 than it does on the computer? What a rip!

  • I really hope they reconsider that “one lump sum” payment. I can’t get Directv with my apartment complex and $300.00 is way too much for me to pay. I almost bought it last year, but I can’t even justify buying it ths year. It’s an awesome idea and service though. Right on PlayStation! Whodat!

  • I think the ps3 is more expensive because it also gives you access to viewing the games on ur tablet or phone

  • “I think the ps3 is more expensive because it also gives you access to viewing the games on ur tablet or phone”

If you buy this on the PS3 without a DirectTV subscription you do NOT have the ability to also watch the games on your phone or tablet – just your PS3. Just to clarify in case someone gets confused and then disappointed.

I’m going to take a chance again this year, even though I know if the service is bad, the picture quality is poor, etc. I will have just lost my $300. Trying to equate it to the cost of going to an NFL game, etc. really doesn’t make sense – you just have to decide if it is worth $300 to be able to watch any game you want this season. For example, in my area, I’d MUCH rather watch Luck and Indy and see how he does against the Bears this Sunday (and I’m a Bears fan too, but I’d still want to see Luck in his NFL debut, and also how Manning does at Denver) but my CBS station is showing the Vikings game instead.

  • Mates, I just went out and bought a PS3 solely for Sunday Ticket. I already have a full XBox 360 setup (games, etc) and so this was 100% b/c of my love of the NFL. I don’t really enjoy being treated like a red-headed stepchild here (poor rollout information, still not available as of 2:30 Central Time, etc) and I’ve never seen an entity so uninterested in taking my $300 before.

  • Oh – just for information – I have the MLB.TV app on my Xbox 360 and it’s fantastic. The games aren’t very glitchy at all (unless a rare problem with my ISP) and all load to be a nice HD feed within a minute or so of run time (the game that you select usually starts in SD and you can see the quality improving a few times until you have the HD feed from then on). Also you can do half-screen and watch 2 games at the same time which is nice – pause/rewind/ff/live options, etc.

Did NFL Sunday Ticket on PS3 have these features last year? I’ve read a few comments about “poor quality” and that has me concerned, mates. Very concerned.

  • This was a great deal last year and is a great deal last year. Going out to bars is expensive. I can get a rack (12 pack) of beer for 10 bucks, this works out to 17 bucks per week, and cooking burgers at home is like 15 bucks for 4 burgers.

  • Has anybody seen it available in the Playstation store yet? Please somebody call back and get an update if it’s not too much trouble – I’d do it but I actually have to do some work this afternoon :)

  • Nope, it’s not available yet. Should be up soon though, I hope…I’ve been waiting all morning to see it and breathe a huge sigh of relief.

  • still cant download. wtf?

  • There are 24 hours in a day. Ya’ll have some real patience issues.

  • My NFL Picks:
    Division Winners:
    Saints, Packers, 49ers, Giants
    Texans, Ravens, Broncos, Patriots

    Playoffs
49ers over Falcons, Eagles over Giants
Bengals over Patriots, Broncos over Titans

Saints over 49ers, Packers over Eagles
Bengals over Ravens, Texans over Broncos

Packers over Saints, Texans over Bengals

Packers over Texans in Super Bowl XXVII

  • Yeah, I do. I WANT ME SOME FOOTBALL! (Even though tomorrow’s game will be on TV and I won’t need this service yet, so you may have a point there with the patience issue.) :D

  • Can anyone compare the “online” version to the ps3 version? Directv’s web page states that the “online” version is not compatabile with apple tv, does any one knowif the “mirroring” function would show up on the tv in HD?
    Thanks

  • Who Dat, cajunlou?

  • Who dat! It is a little hard to swallow the 300 for the ps3 version, last year the footage was grainy and did freeze many times, but I am going to buy one of the two versions just to watch he Saints. I’m hoping to determine which one will be better for both traveling and home viewing on the tv

  • I’m a Saints fan – just moved to downtown Milwaukee for work. There’s lots of Sunday Ticket options in bars around where I live, but I can’t stand not having the sound – either trying to sync it to WWL radio feed or at least having the FOX or CBS sound. When you go to sports bars they usually have the Saints on mute which is frustrating.

  • Plus like somebody else said – the app will pay for itself from alcohol savings alone. $30 on a bottle of vodka will last me 4 weeks whereas I’d easily drink $30 a week in a bar.

  • Hey LiveMike504, I am a Browns Fan and I am also in Milwaukee for work(have been for 12 years now). How tired do you get of hearing about the Packers? I am gonna pull the trigger on the Sunday Ticket for PS3 this year & hope that it helps turn my team around! Can’t get too much worse!

  • hopefully it is taking so long so that they can add a payment option

  • So it’s September 4th, my app from last year updated to version 2.00 and when I click on purchase subscription, I am getting the :there is nothing you can purchase at this time message I have been getting all summer…what gives? Is anyone else having the same experience?

  • I know everyone is excited about the return of Sunday NFL ticket to PS3 because I am too. I just got off the phone with a DirecTv representative and told them I was interested in buying NFL sunday ticket through PS3 and she told me the app would be available today on September 4, 2012. I asked her if i decide to purchased it through PS3 will i be able to access the games on my PC or mobile since the playstation version is considered to be NFL Sunday Ticket Max? The Directv representative told me…”YES” i would be able to access my mobile or PC but I could only log in one device at a time. She gave me an example if I am on my PS3 and want to leave to the store i miust log off my PS3 fully then log on my cell phone to resume. The online price through DirecTV is $250.00 but it only covers PC, Tablets, mobile phones. PS3 version is $299 which added 50.00 to make it the To-Go- package. That is why the PS3 is $299. That is what the Representative told me. I call a second time and another Agent told me the same thing. So i hope they are right because I was a Directv customet last year and I use the PS3 a couple of times and my PC and Phone. But this year I am not a Directv customer so I made sure it was available

  • Spoke again to a Playstation rep was told that the store part of the update has until midnite pacific time to finish updating tis why its tsking so long

  • Hey guys. I saw some people said on here they have the app but it doesn’t have a way to pay yet. I’m not seeing the app at all. Is it in the playstation store? Thanks in advance, i’m pretty much a newbie when it comes to downloading stuff on the ps3.

  • Hey Coltsfan, I’ll try to help ya, even though the colts screwed my boy Peyton last year….LOL. Look under TV/Video Services. Thats where the app is for me. I don’t think it is in the store.

  • I guess to be more specific, look under the MY SERVICES part of the TV/Video section. It should be there along with all the other junk you can get. Hope it helps…

    GO BILLS….

  • “The Directv representative told me…”YES” i would be able to access my mobile or PC but I could only log in one device at a time. If you are a DirectTV subscriber and and you purchase it through your PS3, THEN you can watch it on your tablet and phones. There is an option, when you sign up on the PS3, to purchase as a DirectTV subscriber and to purchase if you don’t have DirectTV. If you purchase through your PS3 as a NON-DirectTV subscriber, the app is activated on your PS3. But Sony doesn’t give you another app for your tablet or phone – all you get is the app on your PS3.

  • Nothing in the tv/video section or ps store for me. I also made sure I had the latest update.hmmm.

  • So how do I get this app? I do not have direct tv, and have been going onto psn and cant find the direct tv sunday ticket anywhere.

  • @sbandy12, if you have the NFL Ticket app on your PS3 from last year, just go to update on your Ps3 and update the software. Then click on last years app and it will update the app.

  • from what i understand it wont be under video unless you downloaded it last year when its available it should be in the store under media/apps still not there yet

  • Any idea if they are going to be able to accept 4 $75 payments? Or do you have to pay all $300 at once? I read somewhere that they will accept payments but I am not sure.
