The Drop: Week of September 17th 2012 New Releases

On PS3 this week, Borderlands 2 furthers the distinct blending of First Person Shooter and Role Playing genres to create the true evolution of the Role Playing Shooter. Team up with up to three other players for four-player online goodness or go old-school with two-player split-screen couch sharing mayhem as you spend hours leveling up your character and equipping them with one of the millions of badass weapons.

On PSN this week. Tag, grind, and trick to the beat in SEGA’s hit game Jet Set Radio! Fight for control of Tokyo, mark your turf with graffiti, tag walls, billboards, and even rival gang members. Also on PSN as a full digital download, visit the modern day reinvention of one of the most critically acclaimed arcade franchises of all-time, SSX allows players to experience the franchise’s signature fun and adrenaline-packed gameplay across iconic mountain ranges all over the world. Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

PlayStation 3

Borderlands 2 (Also on PSN) — Borderlands 2 is the epic sequel to the ultimate four-player role-playing shooter loot fest. Combining invention and evolution, Borderlands 2 features all-new characters, mixed online/split-screen co-op, skills, environments, enemies, weapons and equipment, which come together in an ambitiously crafted story. Players will reveal secrets, and escalate mysteries of the Borderlands universe as they adventure across the unexplored new areas of Pandora.

PlayStation Network

Jet Set Radio — The government is attempting to silence the kids of Tokyo, but with their Overdrive Magnetic-Motor Skating Shoes, the cops will have to catch ’em first. The Jet Set Radio program keeps the kids unified and inspired to fight for their rights of expression, which includes graffiti art. Grab your spray cans and design your own piece on one of the immense walls in the 3D, interactive city.

You might be forced to protect your territory from adversaries that want to take over your neighborhood. Join up with like-minded hip individuals that will help you keep your area the way you want it. The cops will be after you too, so you’ll have to be quick. The 10 cartoon-style characters are pumped up with polygons so they come alive in 3D. Uniqueness is key to these kids and each character stands apart with exclusive abilities and style. They like to show off too, and with 18 missions, there’s plenty of time to impress. It’s fast, it’s fun, and it’s definitely funky.

SSX — Redefining the franchise, SSX pits riders against both mountain and man. Players explore the story of a team who seek to be the first to descend the faces of the most treacherous mountain ranges on the planet. The team travels the world to face the worst that Mother Nature can throw at them.

From the peaks of the Himalayas, where the air is so thin that riders have to descend through the death zone at breakneck speeds to keep from blacking out, to the solid ice ranges of Antarctica, where a sunlit line is the only survival option when temperatures drop 50 degrees centigrade in the shade. And the mountain isn’t the only danger players will face. In SSX the first goal is to survive. The second, in true SSX fashion, is to look good doing it.

F1 2012 (Also on Blu-ray) — F1 2012 is the next installment in the popular F1 racing series. The game features all new modes of play, including the Young Driver Test mode, a feature inspired by the sport’s real-life testing programme for up and coming talent.

Zuma’s Revenge — Enter an all-new world of Zuma where evil tiki bosses rule the land! Conquer over 60 ribbeting levels by firing stone spheres to make matches and destroy the deadly stream of balls, then take on six tiki boss battles and guide your agile amphibian to victory. The sequel to Zuma features all the fun of the original hit game, plus new power-ups, new agilities, high-definition graphics, and four game modes for hundreds of hours of fun.

PlayStation 2 Classic

Harvest Moon It’s A Wonderful Life: Special Edition — The second PlayStation 2 entry in the Harvest Moon series builds upon the similarly-named GameCube title, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. A few big changes mark the jump from GameCube to PS2 — in this version, you may have either a boy or a girl once you’ve been married, and there are now four wives to woo with the addition of the lovely Lumina, and continued building of your farm is allowed once you’ve completed the story campaign.

River King — Players cast a line and try to hook the big one, in this socially oriented fishing RPG from Natsume. Taking the role of one of four family members, players seek angler immortality by catching the legendary and elusive big fish known as “the River King.” Of course, there’s also much to do between trips to the waterside, such as collecting rare items, trading for better equipment at shops, and making new friends.

  • Awesome! Borderlads 2 on PSN! Great week!

  • Now it has become apparent why Borderlands became free on PS+. Walmart (in Canada anyway) is giving away a copy of Borderlands with every copy of Borderlands 2. I think we deserve a different PS+ full game perk.

  • @2 Not really….SONY shudnt be responsible for what one retailer is doing in one region of the world

    @PlayStation
Can we pleeeeeeeeease get ACIII on PSN day 1 as well. Maybe bundled with Liberation for cheaper?

  • pre-ordered borderlands 2, might buy f1 2012, and i am glad that SSX is now on psn

is there a date yet for the ratchet: deadlocked psn release?

  • How can we access the store when the firmware 4.25 having a bug that can kill our PS3?

Why don’t just make it an optional firmware for now? so we can access the network until you can fix the bug.

  • Borderlands! Can’t wait for the midnight release.

Also, the old Tony Hawk pro skater games and Digimon World games would be nice additions for psone classics. ;)

  • I really enjoyed Borderlands, looks like Borderlands 2 will be even better!

  • Will Borderlands2 be the Premiere Edition like the EU PSN?

  • Really looking forward to F1 2012!
    Codemasters never cease to amaze!

  • Hi.

Anything about the pre-order of FIFA 13 coming to the store this tuesday, and the lauching at 25th?

  • Daaaamn, I bought Borderlands 2 pre-order (the media). :-( Daaaamn, daaaamn, I would buy the PSN version. :-( I’m happy and also pissed of with Sony. You should make it clear it will be in PSN, so I wouldn’t buy the media. :-(

  • Yay for RE6 demo

  • Show some Vita love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • can’t wait to play the resident evil 6 demo and buy borderlands 2 great week

  • @ 13 and 5 what bug?….and has anyone experience this?…RE6 can’t wait!

  • Will buying Borderlands 2 on PSN make us eligible for the free Mechromancer DLC? Or will we have to pay $10 still?

  • What happened to Need for Speed: Most Wanted on PS2 Classics, It completely disappeared from the Playstation Store. I want it back please.

  • A new harvest moon for the PS3 or Vita (or both, transfarring ftw) would be great. I would buy that in a heartbeat

  • The only thing that really interests me this week is the RE6 demo. I plan on picking the game up day 1 on Oct. 6th so I’m probably going to pass on the demo.

  • i wish we would get fear effect 1 and 2 its been on the eu store from some time now

  • Any word on if the US is going to be getting Ecolibrium?

  • Borderlands 2. If I wasn’t already buying the physical retail copy this would be exciting news.

  • I’ve never heard of most of these PS2 classics.

Still hoping to see some of the more widely known PS2 titles to come onto the PS Store.

  • Remember when I said that borderlands being a free PlayStation plus game was a marketing plot for the month of September to make you want to buy borderlands 2 well now it’s confirmed the borderlands 2 will be up on PSN :-/ instead of giving us the same things as the European gamers got like red dead redemption dark siders and borderlands. Pretty sad Sony. Stop treating us like mindless cattle that you can brainwash!

  • Looks cool..
But how much space is Borderlands 2 going to take?
And we should’ve gotten a preorder option with some bonuses :/

  • @21. yeah some people download 4.25 and now their ps3 is messed up ! So they blame the update for it !

  • Borderlands 2
    & Resident evil 6 Demo
    Great week!

  • Finally the demo for RE6.

Maybe we can get Mega Man Legends 1 and 2 and The Misadventues of Tron Boone some day.

  • Is the VITA getting a port of Borderlands 2?

  • LOL so hard @ SnakeEyes

C’mon dude. What do you think you are some Nostradamus-esque prophet of the business world who just came up with some amazing revelation on some conspiracy in the business world? LOL

Welcome to the world of marketing in which people/companies are trying to earn your money. No offense to you, but any 15 year old with even the slightest awareness of business would tell you that Borderlands 2 is coming out later in the month, so a decent way of marketing that would be to give away Borderlands 1. It promotes awareness of the product all around. And it’s also giving gamers like me, who really had/have no interest in the franchise a really good look at what they may be missing. IF I love it, and I know the sequel is coming out that everyone is saying is even better than the first, that’s another potential sale right there. It’s not brainwashing, it’s marketing……not to mention good business in the form of good will from people who actually appreciate getting the whole original game for free.

In fact my money would bet on even Gearbox being the one who came to Sony and said hey, BL2 later this month and you’re looking for games to give away……you fill in the rest.

  • Oh, and just to add a bit. Not only does giving away BL1 possibly stimulate sales of BL2. But there’s another aspect to giving it away as well. I don’t know what BL1’s sales were, but I’m SURE they could have been better based on how good people say the game is along with how many potential FPS customers there are (some 15 million based on CoD sales). So ALOT of people havn’t even had a taste of the quality of Gearbox’s work itself. Just the craftsmanship they put in a game regardless of Borderlands. So giving it away puts the game in the hands of MANY people who otherwise wouldn’t have ever even played Borderlands otherwise but are playing it now thanks to Plus. And even if those gamers don’t even particularly dig BL1 and aren’t persuaded to get BL2…….it at least gives those gamers a taste of Gearbox’s workmanship…..which could possibly stimulate sales of Gearbox’s other game, Aliens: Colonial Marines.

My point is, this is just good, common logic business practices that at least have the possibility to help stimulate sales across the board for Gearbox and the platform it’s being given away on.

Sorry for the rant, but your comment got me in the ranting mood.

  • I was gonna renew my plus subscription for a year, but I’m definitely gonna get Borderlands 2 instead, one of the best games I’ve ever played, after that I’ll buy the season pass and after that I may renew my subscription

  • CANNOT WAIT FOR TUESDAY!!! Got my Ultimate Loot Chest Limited Edition preordered and awaiting pickup! Too bad there’s no midnight release.

  • Hey Rey, any chance of the first Darksiders game coming FREE to PS+?

  • @ darthkrayt
Look if you like being a sheep go right ahead and get borderlands2 as a digital copy I’m not saying it’s a bad game even though part one has no story gearbox says part two does so I believe them what I’m trying to say is that they tried to deny it when they knew that they were going to do that from the word go. Sony I’m talking
Just remember if you don’t speak up though keep on doing it to us but if you like getting treated like a fool don’t say nothing!

  • You know I have waited patiently for too LONG for the dang Nascar 2011 to get on the USA psn store that I want to pull my hair out in rage and beat the living fire out of Dave the developer for nascar 2011 for dissing us Americans by making the game then only putting it digitally on the UK psn over 4 months ago and giving the USA the middle finger. Since you idiots at psn blog team and them are so lip tied to not talk to one another to get it on the usa psn then screw you both. I’m sick of not knowing a dang thing is ever coming. Its like you nim rods dont want my money so I’ll keep it and give you the middle finger. Dave you can take Nascar 2012 and shove the DISC where the sun don’t shine. No digital means no sale. I swear you companies can never make your minds up over digital its pathetic. I’m tired of this crap. The digital people get the shaft too much. Screw Disc. Shove the disc games up your wooo who. Can not believe a american racing sport nascar game is on the UK psn and not here. So sick of digital shooters. Yet digital F1 hits the usa psn??? We want NASCAR. Screw you dave and Sony. I’ll keep my money.

  • I am loving my lbp vita from earlier this past week. I really hope one day all of the .hack gu games get uploaded. And an hd remake of Kingdom hearts games comes out.

  • Drop clock tower, nightmare creatures.. psone.

  • @snakeeyes211 go back & read @Darth-Krayt posts again, he doesn’t disagree with you, he just points out that anyone with an internet connection and a bit of common sense could see that for themselves. You acting like it was some great revelation on your part only makes you look silly.
I also agree that it makes good sense for Sony & Gearbox to give it away before the release of BL2 even tho I was a bit xcrewed over cause I already own Borderlands on my PC (Where it belongs IMO)

  • Please bring..

    – Final Fantasy
    – Kingdom Hearts
    – Onimusha

Oh yea and uh.. How come BestBuy.com doesn’t have God of War Sagas?

  • @ Darth above…….. Well if thats true on boarderlands then Nascar 2012 comes out in Nov on elections day so get the dang Nascar 2011 on the Dam* usa psn then and for free since us americans got the digital shaft all this time. Nascar 2011 should have been on the usa psn last year for crying out loud. Man who runs the show on digital releasing? They need to be fired or listen to what we want for once. Its like you idiots take a huge bucket of games to a field and poor them out and close your eyes and pick a few to release digital every other week. Its pathetic. Say a game has 5 series to it, well you idiots will skip the first 2 and put 3 and 5 on the store and charge more for 3 than 5. You guys are idiots. If you cant release all the series together at the same time at decent pricing then go work at 7eleven.

  • @30 LOL you remind of some of the posters I see on another video game forum called Gamefaqs you may have heard of it you are just being silly and annoying.

  • It would be awesome if we got a early update on Tuesday, the sooner i get to play re6 demo the better 8)
