The Drop: Week of September 17th 2012 New Releases

On PS3 this week, Borderlands 2 furthers the distinct blending of First Person Shooter and Role Playing genres to create the true evolution of the Role Playing Shooter. Team up with up to three other players for four-player online goodness or go old-school with two-player split-screen couch sharing mayhem as you spend hours leveling up your character and equipping them with one of the millions of badass weapons.

On PSN this week. Tag, grind, and trick to the beat in SEGA’s hit game Jet Set Radio! Fight for control of Tokyo, mark your turf with graffiti, tag walls, billboards, and even rival gang members. Also on PSN as a full digital download, visit the modern day reinvention of one of the most critically acclaimed arcade franchises of all-time, SSX allows players to experience the franchise’s signature fun and adrenaline-packed gameplay across iconic mountain ranges all over the world. Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

PlayStation 3

Borderlands 2 (Also on PSN) — Borderlands 2 is the epic sequel to the ultimate four-player role-playing shooter loot fest. Combining invention and evolution, Borderlands 2 features all-new characters, mixed online/split-screen co-op, skills, environments, enemies, weapons and equipment, which come together in an ambitiously crafted story. Players will reveal secrets, and escalate mysteries of the Borderlands universe as they adventure across the unexplored new areas of Pandora.

PlayStation Network

Jet Set Radio — The government is attempting to silence the kids of Tokyo, but with their Overdrive Magnetic-Motor Skating Shoes, the cops will have to catch ’em first. The Jet Set Radio program keeps the kids unified and inspired to fight for their rights of expression, which includes graffiti art. Grab your spray cans and design your own piece on one of the immense walls in the 3D, interactive city.

You might be forced to protect your territory from adversaries that want to take over your neighborhood. Join up with like-minded hip individuals that will help you keep your area the way you want it. The cops will be after you too, so you’ll have to be quick. The 10 cartoon-style characters are pumped up with polygons so they come alive in 3D. Uniqueness is key to these kids and each character stands apart with exclusive abilities and style. They like to show off too, and with 18 missions, there’s plenty of time to impress. It’s fast, it’s fun, and it’s definitely funky.

SSX — Redefining the franchise, SSX pits riders against both mountain and man. Players explore the story of a team who seek to be the first to descend the faces of the most treacherous mountain ranges on the planet. The team travels the world to face the worst that Mother Nature can throw at them.

From the peaks of the Himalayas, where the air is so thin that riders have to descend through the death zone at breakneck speeds to keep from blacking out, to the solid ice ranges of Antarctica, where a sunlit line is the only survival option when temperatures drop 50 degrees centigrade in the shade. And the mountain isn’t the only danger players will face. In SSX the first goal is to survive. The second, in true SSX fashion, is to look good doing it.

F1 2012 (Also on Blu-ray) — F1 2012 is the next installment in the popular F1 racing series. The game features all new modes of play, including the Young Driver Test mode, a feature inspired by the sport’s real-life testing programme for up and coming talent.

Zuma’s Revenge — Enter an all-new world of Zuma where evil tiki bosses rule the land! Conquer over 60 ribbeting levels by firing stone spheres to make matches and destroy the deadly stream of balls, then take on six tiki boss battles and guide your agile amphibian to victory. The sequel to Zuma features all the fun of the original hit game, plus new power-ups, new agilities, high-definition graphics, and four game modes for hundreds of hours of fun.

PlayStation 2 Classic

Harvest Moon It’s A Wonderful Life: Special Edition — The second PlayStation 2 entry in the Harvest Moon series builds upon the similarly-named GameCube title, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. A few big changes mark the jump from GameCube to PS2 — in this version, you may have either a boy or a girl once you’ve been married, and there are now four wives to woo with the addition of the lovely Lumina, and continued building of your farm is allowed once you’ve completed the story campaign.

River King — Players cast a line and try to hook the big one, in this socially oriented fishing RPG from Natsume. Taking the role of one of four family members, players seek angler immortality by catching the legendary and elusive big fish known as “the River King.” Of course, there’s also much to do between trips to the waterside, such as collecting rare items, trading for better equipment at shops, and making new friends.

  • I’m really getting sick of the way Sony updates the store. People all over are playing RE6 Demo already but here I am as usual waiting impatiently once again until Sony decides to update the store for my area. No doubt I will also be waiting all day long also probably until 9:00pm again and won’t be able to play until 2 days later because I have low signal in my room. Why can’t you just update the store at midnight in everyone’s respective time zones so people can purchase and download and access their content more effectively? Something’s gotta give Sony.

    Truly.
    Loyal but fed up Customer

  • hey rey i have a quickly question. we going to have LBP vita in this PSN update?

  • So you guys just complain about pointless little things up on the blog ALL the time or am I just looking at this on a bad day? Seriously, how old are you guys? You’re the reason why I can’t read my playstation magazine in public, because of pathetic arguments over video games like this. My god, if games make you this heated, find another hobby for god’s sake. Either that or calm down and enjoy your freaking games. Life’s too darn short to be complain about pointless crap like this.

  • I’m excited for one thing today: The RESIDENT EVIL 6 demo! I’m downloading it as soon as the store updates, so please Sony, early store update today!

  • I’m excited for one thing today: Borderlands 2 digital release. With my luck, the store will have its latest update ever, today *sigh*.

  • Once again Sony, D3P and Level-5 don’t deliver our White Knight Chronicles DLC. I been waiting for the 1.02 patch for a long time. it’s not fair to not be able to complete the true ending of this game.

  • @175, I would be more upset with your English teacher.

  • No, I’m actually not easily irritated but your posts are lengthy and poorly constructed. It’s really hard to understand the point you’re trying to make when most of it just looks like a bunch of garbled mess.

In fact, I had to re-read several of your sentences in order to understand the point you were trying to put across. I’m all for your argument, but at least try to seem a little intelligent when conveying it in words. People might take you more seriously. Just saying.

  • its 12:30 P.M. where I live & sony still doesn’t update the PSN store like please do it now! I wanna play Resident Evil 6 so bad!

  • Some weeks are early some are late, Come on Sony with the updates…..Get a set time week after week instead of all us salivating waiting on you guys….Thanks that’s all I have today lol……

  • So Netflix updated before PSN go figure…..lol

  • SOCOM HD PLEASE

  • Waiting F1 2012, this PSN update is so long

  • That update longer. Generally what time finish the updates?

  • It’s almost 6 for gods sake! Seriously I deal with this if it’s s ome boring sale, but I want that second RE6 demo sometime today.

  • As one of the people who have already played the RE6 demo, you won’t be disappointed if you’re a fan of RE4 and RE5. The laser sight is buggy and can’t be seen by your friend anyways so leave it on the crosshairs though.

  • come on when this update coming out???

  • I’ll buy F1 2012, but I’m already about to give up.

  • While many people who have the XBOX or PC are already playing F1 2012, I’m out here waiting on PSN.

  • @191, we usually have the update by now, must be BL2 that’s slowing it down. The demo is worth the wait. If you look, it says 4 PM on our comments since the US Sony runs off of PST time (-8 GMT… currently -7 GMT due to Daylight Savings). They have it done by 6 PM PST so it has to be done within the next two hours. I’m more looking forward to the new Harvest Moon though.

  • F1 2012 ON AIR!!

  • RE6 Demo. What time tonight?! Want to try gameplay!

  • It will definately be by 12:00am tonight. That’s what I’ve been told so far.

  • Cant wait to get my hands on Ókami HD and Killzone #1 HD :D
