  • i love digital content but they’re missing that preorder bonus that i want from retailers. please by any chance sony have preorder bonuses not betas but content for the game it would be really nice and it can bring more customers.

  • I can find much better deals for games in stores, if you expect me to do digital download on retail games, then you better be offering much cheaper prices.

  • We should get some discount for AC: liberation when buying AC3 digitally…or better make it cross-buy like battle royale

  • So all PS3 games are gonna be “Day 1 Digital” from now on. If so great, I was running out of space for my games anyway.

  • Awesome news. Now all you need to make DD retail games more viable are updating the store on Tuesday at midnight and allowing us to pre-load games like Steam. Also, you should make the Store a lot more like Steam when it comes to the way it operates and the layout.

  • Loving this. Wish I knew about it earlier, but digital downloads beats physical media every day of the week. I’m running out of storage space for DVDs, Blu-Rays, games, CDs and books …

  • Also, is this a sneak peek at how the new Store is gonna look?

  • Digital should be cheaper. I agree with #1. Though to expect that on day one release is silly. It should be like how movies are in the theatre to disc. A few months. Day one it should be 25% off (for PS Plus users at least). Sony understands better than the companies they are dealing with, I’m sure. Digital deals need to be better if they want me to spend ALL of my money on games.

  • Sony needs to release a 750gb hdd for $50. People would buy that like crazy. I’d even buy one for a friend!

  • Games that I will be playing for a long time, like Most Wanted and NBA 2K13 are perfect for this Pre-orders cancelled. Will download both of those day one! Awesome!! Thank you, PSN and PS+

  • So, how about the TR (Turkish) PSN users? Can they get %10 discount and can they get the games with these prices?

  • DOOM and Resident Evil 6!

  • Does that mean that people that pre-order over PSN get the same bonuses as doing it at GameStop or Amazon(i.e. the All-Star Weekend with NBA 2K13)¿

  • I preordered the physical version of Assassin’s creed 3 for the steel book. Was also thinking of preordering Need for speed, i’m now considering the digital version for that if the same bonuses are included. I’m really hoping EA is considering on making it Cross buy as well!

  • Do we get ps+ disccount with every game listed here? I ask this because in the post the 007 game does not have a disccount but in posts number 1 and 12, you say every game gets a disccount on day 1 with ps+. Please answer XD.

  • @153 that is not possible because the games are different. If the Vita game was a port of the ps3, I think that could happen.

  • What about the pre-order bonus on NBA 2K13? The All-Star Weekend DLC code will be sent if you buy the game at GameStop or Amazon. Are we getting the code here too?
And if not, anyone knows if this DLC can be bought on PSN?

  • I am starting to prefer digital format over physical copy and that’s because it’s more convenient and I don’t have to put the damn disc into the slot. Welp, need to upgrade hard drive with lots of space.

  • This is a great idea giving us the heads up about being able to DL the game. My only grip is the waiting for the store to update to get the game on release day. My patients is really poor :(

  • Looks like they are saying PS+ members only get a 10% discount on some of these during the first week and others only when you pre-order? Is that the case? If so, do we get a demo or a 60 min trial before we go ahead with it? I would hate to loose out on my 10% discount because I wanted to try it before I threw down $54.

  • if possible you should also list the file size for these games as well since HDD space is a concern for some people

  • This is really good and interesting, it’s good for the customer to choose if they want a digital or physical copy of the game from day 1. However, the digital copy should be cheaper (at least $5) for everyone, that way you can get more people getting interested. Otherwise there is no a big reason to buy digital over retail.

  • Why doesn’t Assassin’s Creed III have a discount?!!

  • what I want with PS4 on launch day if it’s not asking too much.
A system that is capable through emulation to fully support Backwards Compatability through both Physical and digital Distribution.
All PSN related stuff is transferable to the PS4 including PSN ID, PS Store games and all.
All PS4 models including a possible PS4 Slim to have Full BACKWARDS Compatability through both Physical and digital Distribution even if you have to pay $10 to have it.
    Cross Game Chat for PS4.

  • Falaut said: “From what I understand, the disc, box, packaging and printing that goes into a retail release costs about $5, give or take. So if there is none of that associated with a digital release, how come the end consumer is not seeing any of the savings.”

But digital distribution requires constant maintenance for the servers providing the downloadable content. One cost replaces another. Honestly, I wouldn’t expect too much of a discount in the future, even when games go 100% downloadable. People never think about that. I guess that’s because you guys just like to complain about anything.

  • GREAT!! Thanks Sony you are the best now am going to buy 4 of the above titles Day 1 :)

  • Sure, you can’t sell a downloaded copy and get some money back, but that only benefits you if you’re the type of person who never plays a game again once you’re done with it. But most gamers like to keep their games.

Pros to downloading games are actually quite numerous:

    1. You get to keep it FOREVER. How many times have you gotten rid of a game, then a couple years down the road you crave playing it again. Crap, now you have to shell out money once again. With the downloadable version in your purchase history, you can just click and download it again. Just look how many people are gushing over GTA 3. I wonder why they ever sold it in the first place if they love it so much.

    2. Can’t get damaged, lost, or stolen. That’s 3 benefits in 1 actually…

    3. They don’t wear down the disc drive/laser. Of course the hard drive will get more work, but as of now, not only are hard drives cheaper and easier to replace, but they also seem to be more reliable to begin with. Personally, I like a mix of disc and downloaded games so I don’t wear either one out too soon. Although I tend to go more for the disc, I won’t be complaining when the industry goes to 100% digital distribution.

  • What do downloadable non-psn games do?
-They hog hard drive space. I think the highest the ps3 can go is 640gb? And the fact that an announcement was made that his ps3 console will be supported through 2015, the earliest the ps4 will come out will be 2014. Sony needs to do something between now and when the ps4 comes out to support a bigger hard drive in the ps3 than 640gb at 5400.
-They are still cheaper to buy on ebay. That is really true plus you will save the hard drive hogging downloadable’s.

  • Nice option. I would rather buy the physical copy though.

  • 4. No tax! (In most areas) This actually does make the game CHEAPER to buy it this way!

    5. You don’t have to leave your house to get it! Lazy bums! You can sit on the couch in your underwear while making the purchase. You can’t go down to the store in your underwear. Well, you could… but please don’t… unless you’re a hot chick.

    6. Supplies never run out! You won’t go down to the store only to get turned away and feeling irritated because the last copy was just sold 5 minutes before you got there. You know you hate that feeling…

  • Also they are still cheaper on ebay even if you are a ps plus subscriber

  • Damn you guys broke up my list… :|

    Anyway, continuing…

    7. As a certain troll here loves to point out (and he’s actually right), currently with downloadable purchases you can play the game on two separate consoles, whereas the disc only can be played on one at a time. If you’re have a gaming party/session at your house on multiple consoles, you’ll need a disc for each console! The downloaded versions will require half that many purchases. Of course, this is only for now, as the rules may change in the future…

    8. More to come later. I just can’t think right now.

  • you also can’t sell games that you download. At least with a disc you can get some kind of a return on your intitial investment through ebay or some other place…Too bad you can’t sell psn games that you buy and finish..

  • 10% discount…that’s hardly a discount at all. And Bethesda should be giving away Dishonored or Doom considering what a broken piece of crap Skyrim was for PS3 owners. And still no Dawnguard as well.

  • I like this but still the whole price point is wrong. When I think of digital I think of keeping it forever that means it would have to be cheaper for me to pick it up. Why would I drop 60 on a digital game when I can buy it cheaper in the store later on soon after its release???

  • So Resident Evil 6 gets… nothing at all? If that’s the case, they can at least allow us to pre-order it and pre-load it so we can play at midnight. Europe is able to do that for Resident Evil 6, so why not us?

  • @PSN Community team

Where is XCOM Enemy Unknown? Please add that.

  • @ Morgan
I’m excited to hear you guys are listening and plan on allowing us to download pre-orders at midnight. That’s a big deal to me. PLEASE do it for DOOM 3:BFG Edition. And please announce it soon. I’ll happily cancell my physical copy pre-order and switch to digital for that game (as it’s a game I would never even consider getting rid of), if I can get it at midnight with a discount from PSN.

And Thanks to iD and Bethesda for making releasing the game digitally on Day 1. DOOM3:BFG is one of the few disc based games I’m excited for in the remaining 2012. Thumbs up.

    @177
The biggest positive about digital copies of games over physical media is environmental impact. I’m not even one of these people who believe global warming is caused by man (every planet in the Sol system are heating up at the same rate, even Pluto), but we sure do pollute. And games are a big contributor between all the plastic processing for discs and packaging, paper for the manuals and other ads in the box, not to mention fuel consumption and all the other enviro. negatives associated with worldwide shipping.

  • Lame that the US Playstation Store doesn’t have RE6 available for Pre-Order unlike the EU Store. EU Store’s pre-order came with all of the bonuses.

  • They should add the download size of each game in this post

  • For $36 I’ll pick up that DOOM 3 BFG edition for sure. Always good to have the DOOM games on your hard drive.

  • I agree with 187 as well. X-COM: Enemy Unknown would be a great game for digital release as well.

  • You’re 100% right.

I hadn’t thought of that yet. I’m sure I would have eventually though… I just haven’t eaten lunch yet so my brain isn’t functioning at full power right now. :)

I sure do hate pollution. Air pollution specifically drives me bonkers. Any possible ways that our big industries can produce less pollution is definitely worth exploring and is extremely important.

  • ^^^ That’s for Darth-Krayt.

You are 100% correct, sir. Sorry, forgot to mention your name. Damn I need to get some lunch.

  • This is frustrating.. Please stop charging full price for digital downloads. Please listen to us, this is nonesense!

  • Life just got easier for us military guys oversees. No more waiting two weeks for US games to make it through customs.

  • Will there be a PSN pre-order for Black Ops 2

  • WOW! GREAT NEWS! I was going for the retail copies of RE6 and Dishonored, but this will save me PLENTY of cash and make my life easier. We need more events like that.
Can anyone tell me if the games will be available only in october or the offers will be permanently in PSN?

  • How does day 1 digital work? Do I need to join something or download anything or will the games just be there october 2nd like Resident Evil 6? Thanks Morgan Haro ^_^

  • 10% off is nice but a number of those games will be $50 in a matter of weeks at retailers, if not less thanks to Black Friday a little over three weeks later. Hell, my pre-ordered copy of NFS: Most Wanted is $53.52 (there was a price drop at some point with my pre-order) on Amazon with free shipping and I’ll get it on release day, likely before the PS Store is even updated, unless there’s a pre-download and it can be unlocked at 12:01AM.

I get having to make retailers happy and they wouldn’t be if there were huge undercuts but until DD can manage that on a closed platform like the PS3 and Store (never compare DD options on PC to consoles, two totally different beasts) that greatly benefits consumers it’s hard to justify going that way outside of DD exclusives and the occasional good deal that does pop up. There’s a whole bunch of other issues with DD still but I don’t feel like writing a novel ATM.
