  • I really like the weekly updates. Hope to see more full retail games for free in the future.

  • I would also love to see PS Plus actually get advertised either in the box art of a game or on TV along with games that are releasing this fall and the new PS3 Slim..

  • QUESTION:
i have a PS+ voucher, and would pre-order Need for Speed on PSN right away but my hard drive is limited. How big is the file?

    • Not sure, but to be clear, you’re not downloading the game when you preorder. It’s simply an entitlement that will get you the Limited Edition version when it releases next week. So you should be able to preorder now, get the discount, then download it when you’re ready for the space when it releases next week. As far as how big it is, I’m not sure at this time

  • Regarding the question that you posed last week regarding PS Plus updates being changed to month to month. I think that biweekly updates would be better than weekly updates. However, I think it would be hard to go back now that it is a weekly update.

  • Hey, Morgan After I spend a 100 do i get A Email this month or next month, also does it count if i bought the 2 year protection plan for my playstation

    • You’ll get the voucher code on or around Nov 7. And if you bought the protection plan on the Store with funds from your SEN Wallet, then yes it counts,

  • Long time reader 1st time commenter…So I was wondering if EA said anything about NFS:MW is gonna be a cross buy game? That would so be a deal sealer for me. Thanks!

  • Sega’s $1 game is the only thing this week for me.
Also @Morgan, I actually appreciate the comment that allows me not to get my hopes up for next week. I really look forward to every Monday’s Plus Update, but I appreciate the early warning that no free game is planned for next week. And I really can’t wait to hear what is planned for the Vita.

  • @Morgan Haro
“We’ll have to agree to disagree here. I think it’s an important step in the industry to offer these AAA titles Day 1 on PSN the same day they’re available at retail. It set an important precedent; thus giving us the runway to improve further. Trust me, there’s been things/features we’ve held from releasing because it’s just not right/ready. But sometimes, in order to get the needle moving, you have to take the first step; imperfect though it may be. But from a functionality standpoint, we were able to offer great content same day as retail within the current framework we have. Progress!”

You may be offering it day one, but you offer it with none of the perks. You don’t get the per-order bonuses, mid-night release, huge discounts (up to $20 off), and you don’t get the game in a timely manner.

No offensive Morgan, but I don’t trust what you are saying because it’s your job to say that. Put yourself in the customer perspective; would you rather buy a day one release on Steam, Amazon.com, retail, or the PlayStation Network?

As a tech, I understand progress. As a consumers, I don’t want progress. I want it to be release with all the perks.

  • @ Morgan Haro

im a huge fan of all your feedback and info that you post on a weekly basis however after reading the conversation between yourself and the it guy that was complaining about day one releases i do have a huge question that i would love to understand.
why is it we cannot on the NA store have day one midnight releases yet on the euro store they can pre download it and your able to play it at release launch?
now i did double check on my euro account before posting this question to make sure i do have my info straight.

maybe i should by on my euro account so i can play at launch instead of waiting to dl on my na account and still get the same perks

    • it’s something we’re looking at very closely, but I don’t have any ETA to when it might be possible on our end. That aspect is one of a few key takeaways from the community on the Day 1 Digital event that I’ll make sure we present to the teams.

  • HATE IT AFTER THIS MOTH IM NOT RENEWING MY SUBSCRIPTION AT FIRST THEY GAVE THE INSTANT GAME COLLECTION GOOD GAMES LIKE INFAMOUS2 BUT THEN YOU GET PLUS NEXT THING U KNOW THEY GIVE AWAY BAD GAMES AGAIN AND NO FREE GAME THIS WEEK PLUS SUCKS LIKE STARHAWK I WANTED THAT SENSE MAY THEN THEY GIVE IT AWAY I WAS SO HAPPY THE I SAW IT WAS JUST THE CAMPAIGN I WAS STILL A LITTLE BIT HAPPY THE I PLAYED IT BEAT IT IN ONE DAY I WAS MAD AGAIN IT WAS ONLY TEN MISSIONS THEN THEY GIVE AWAY ALL THE DLC’S SO YOUR FORCED TO BUY THE MULTIPLAYER PLUS I JUST A SCAM SO YOU WILL BUY MORE GAME THEY ONLY GIVEAWAY GAME SO U WILL BUT=Y THE DLCS AND STUFF THEY GAVE BORDER LAND(I HATED THAT GAME THE SECOND I PLAYED IT) SO U WOULD BUY BORDERLANDS 2 THEY DID THAT WITH SAINT ROW 2 AND THEY ONLY GIVE GAME THAT ARE LOW IN SALES OR OFF THE TOP LIST

  • @BlooodyCow Refer to my post #143. You are right about everything you say except when you go so far as to assume that you are entitled to a certain price on PSN. What you are asking for would *obviously* result in more sales for Sony. That can’t be debated. But that’s their problem, not yours. It’s up for them to decide what’s best for their bottom line. All you have to worry about is deciding what the best deal is and buy it from there.

  • I think it’s important for Sony to get the day one digital release right. So far, base on their lack of effort, they are doing nothing to get it right. We live in a society where almost everything is instant with all the perks. Look at Steam, at 12:01 midnight, I know I will be able to play my game. Look at the app stores, at 12:01 I know I will be able to download the latest app’s. How can you have day one digital release when you can’t download the game 17-22 hours after everyone else who it from other sources. The version you are getting doesn’t come with all the perks as the other sources and you are paying more for less.

As a customer, why should I wait that long for less while paying more? Morgan, can you answer that question?

    • Like I said, plenty of room for improvement =) I just don’t think those to-be-realized improvement points should be used as a reason to not release the games on PSN. So in short, if the option is not quite for you, the retail options are, and will continue to be there for ya while the digital gravy train continues to roll along. It’s a continuously evolving service for sure that will get better and better.

  • @134, neuropunk, did you notice that a Dark Souls patch was pushed this morning? Can’t be a coincidence; they’re getting us ready for the DLC. I read on the wiki that NPC health has increased. Oh, no, like it wasn’t already too hard to kill some of those MF’ers!

  • You’re doing awesome stuff with PS+, keep it up. Been a happy member since the start.

  • @Squiggle55
I don’t think I’m entitled to a certain price on the PSN to be honest. I was just trying to prove a point on how flawed Sony day one digital release is. I actually want Sony to get their digital release right because I, and more consumers, would actually support it.

As DBD-Dark (comment 159) pointed out, the European PlayStation network is able to pre-download games before release. Why can’t the US be able to do that?

Look at steam for example. I was able to download Torchlight 2 weeks before release and was able to play it at midnight of release. Guild Wars 2 is another example.

  • @ Morgan, it is a great and funny commercial. I’ll be picking it up on the PS3 and the Vita. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Tomorrow and the 30th will be great days for the Vita and PS3 this month. Also, when will Superbot be on the Blog again? I want to know why are they releasing Playstation All-Star Battle Royal in Japan on the 8th and the users in the US have to wait until the 20th..

  • @BlooodyCow

You’re wrongly putting the blame on Sony for this. A lot of the PS3 versions of these games aren’t ready for download weeks before release. Look at the Steam examples you’re using, those are both PC-only games, and it took a while for the PC to get to that point. It’s going to be the same way for consoles.

Retail is still a huge factor on why Sony can’t drop the prices more than they do on PSN. If Sony doesn’t keep their retail partners happy then they have to worry about their consoles not getting shelf space. Valve doesn’t have that problem with Steam. It’s going to take years of slowly chipping away at retail for consoles to be able to match to the same benefits that Steam provides.

  • @BlooodyCow You shouldn’t! You shouldn’t wait longer for less while paying more. That’s the point. Buy it somewhere else. That is Sony’s problem. I guess you can poke fun at Sony for their very lopsided business model for digital (who knows, maybe it’s working great for them), and you can try to reason with them that certain changes would boost sales. But you can’t actually be mad, can you? Just buy the game at retail.

  • What happened to getting Red Dead Redemption for free.
I have been waiting for it now for over two months!!

  • Morgan (or whoever is available), I know I seem to complain a lot, and I apologize for that, however there’s something that you said on the 1st page in response to midnight deliveries, that sort of irritated me.

When you guys first announced the Day 1 Digital, you implied that some of the titles would be available for midnight delivery, saying you were “looking into it”. Despite my reservations in paying so much for digital releases, I bought Assassins Creed III and Need for Speed Most Wanted, and part of the decision was the possibility of a midnight delivery.

Now you’re saying that these don’t get it, and it appears that Dishonored and Doom 3 didn’t either. that only leaves Medal of Honor and….something else, I’m thinking…name escapes me, as games remaining that you would be “looking into” the midnight delivery.

I think it’s incredibly unfortunate that you would imply that there might be a chance of midnight delivery to throw in as an added incentive to paying for the digital pre-orders (for which there is no refunds, I imagine) and then pull that option out.

  • (PART 2)

I’m a big supporter of Sony, and have dumped an unGodly amount of money into my experience with both retail and digital (mostly digital). I don’t write this as a “troll” or someone that is just trying to stir up dissension or whatever. You can see by my avatar that I’m also a PSN+ member, which I have been from day 1.

That said, there are things about the service that is unfortunate, to me, and I think that it comes off as if there’s really in interest in rectifying things. I’m riding with Sony until I’m not gaming anymore, and would never even contemplate going to the competitor. But I would like to see a bit more user friendly attitudes, rather than ignoring almost all criticism in the comment section while almost always responding to butt kissing posts about how awesome you all are, and responding to other questions with the most generic responses possible that don’t actually say anything.

Just my thoughts. Apologies if it offends anyone.

    • Well, as you mentioned, and as was stated, there was a “chance”, which, by definition, is not a sure thing. I do apologize that we weren’t able to deliver midnight releases.

Also, an important point: I don’t ignore the criticism. It’s collected, and weighed, along with all the other feedback, and passed along and presented and most importantly, fought for by yours truly. However, understand that I can’t reply to all critiques as, well, there’s not much I can do! =) I’d go crazy if it was my job to convince people to turn a critique around. You’ll usually find me replying to a handful of negative comments, and often times, that’s my response for the majority of any other critiques since it usually trends along the same topics. For example, on this post, I’ve replied to comments about there not being a free game this week in Plus, Day 1 Digital woes, and this one right here. There’s simply not a lot of justification to type the same thing over and over as it starts coming across really weird, know what I mean? =)

I don’t think you’ve offended anyone though, it’s all in the spirit of sharing your thoughts, and that’s always appreciated.

  • Ditch trials until you use Gaikai to stream them. Otherwise, they aren’t worth the effort to download and play for such a short time.

And if that never happens, please send my laughter to SCEJ. Because that is a missed opportunity, and a damn obvious one.

  • YO morgan

when i be able to receive my 20 box ? i know its in november , but do you know when exactly ?

PS : i’ve pre ordered DISHONORED and MOST WANTED , does it count to get 20 back , i mean the pre order ?

    thank you .

  • While I can’t say that this Playstation Plus Update has very much for me, I can understand that someone else might be well excited for it. Either way, it’s good stuff. This week’s “Drop” is full of things I’ll be getting. My poor wallet will be crying after this month is over.

On the topic of the Day 1 Digital releases, I can agree with what BloodyCow is saying, although he’s a bit aggressive about it.

To give the opinion of a consumer, I’m willing to do digital downloads for all of the games I’m interested in (specifically for PSVita) and I would love if there were digital pre-order bonuses available for such a thing. I know that physical goodies would probably be a pretty far stretch, but downloadable things like costume packs and what-have-you would not be bad to offer.

I’m actually going to take the hit on the costume packs for Street Fighter x Tekken Vita, clearly because I don’t want to carry a cartridge around, so I’m going to just download it for convenience’s sake. But it’s a bit sad that I won’t have the costumes available, but I’m wagering on a PS Plus discount for those later.

  • @170: No offense, but you bought those games based on PR fluff and should blame yourself for not WAITING to see if they would actually announce anything concrete.

Hopefully you now realize you shouldn’t commit to buying something based on a possibility.

  • @Elvick I disagree. I love Full Game Trials. I don’t ever hit download and sit there and wait a couple hours to play. I just play them later when I have time. I have like 10 full game trials just sitting on my PS3 waiting to be played now.

  • But I certainly agree that Gaikai would be great for trials and I also sincerely hope it develops into a rental service. I just mean I don’t see any reason to get rid of full game trials in the meantime.

  • I have a question. Are the ps vita ps plus and ps3 ps plus going to be seperate things. Id hate for the vita stuff to take over my psplus. I think they should be seperate. Other than that ive rejoined Plus for the discounts. Good job and keep them discounts comming!

  • @Tahldon Beginning with the Vita, I can finally see why the digital alternative can be attractive. I honestly think that during development Sony tried to consider how to make changing a cartridge as difficult and annoying as possible. =)

  • I like digital games because I’m lazy. I hate having to peel myself out of my chair & pop a disc out. I like digital because I can move my game to different PS3’s (I have 3) with minimal physical exertion. Cloud saving makes it a no-brainier.

I still buy discs a) if I have to & b) if it comes with sweet bonuses. I buy almost every Vita game digitally. They rarely have bonuses (other than my highly anticipated Persona 4 Solid Gold bundle). We all make judgments over what option is best for us. Nothing is perfect for everybody. Nice that our lives are so good that we can put so much angst into such trivial matters.

A year into his job & Morgan is still pretty cool about answering. I know you may think it’s his job, but it’s not only his job & he’s the only one of 5 community staff that consistently replies, despite what rude *sses some of you are.

  • I would also want to see the same preorder bonuses as retailers… LBP Vita had both of them if you purchased the game on PSN. Also, please add PSP DLC support for PS Vita as well as finish up the list of PSP supported games.

  • Full game trials on new releases are quite cool. It’s a trial yes, but compared to a rental I’ll take this any day. Get to know the game & purchase it if it interests you.

  • ya……another great week…..why does playstation europe always get kick ass freebies and over here in america we get just enough to keep us hungry for another week just to be let down again on another tuesday….what gives…..america made gaming popular on soooooo many levels….so give the most supportive game consumers semi close to what a TERRIFIC UPDATE. not just an appetizer…..

  • Just to make my point heard again (i hope) we need more variety in the genres presented in the free games we get… not everyone is solely into fps’s, fighting and sports games.. for crying out loud.

And have you looked at how un-enticing the current “instant game collection” looks like to potential new “plusers”?, i know for sure i wouldn’t enroll with such a bad lineup.

(i hope that for once a post of mine would get a reply)

  • Soooo is Medal of Honor gonna be a full game download by tomorrow??? If not then F U SONY for putting this under the day one launch… If its not a day on launch game then that should’ve been said awhile ago, so that I would’ve went ahead and pre-ordered the game…

  • FYI: I looked here hoping to see discounts on a few games I’d like to purchase, but not seeing them I thought I’d air my complaint. I would very much like to convert my library and future purchases to digital PSN versions, but the disparity between PSN and retail prices is extortionate. I very nearly purchased a few PSN titles but stopped because it felt like I was being ripped off:

Hot Shots Gold World Invitations: 19.99 Retail, Including the Sony Store. 34.99 on PSN
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker: 19.99 Retail, 29.99 on PSN
Lumines: Electronic Symphony: 29.99 Retail, 35.99 PSN
Hot Shots Golf Open Tee 2: 19.99 Retail, 29.99 PSN
God of War: Origins Collection: 19.99 Retail, 39.99 PSN
Mod Nation: Road Trip: 19.99 Retail, 26.99 PSN

I would purchase these given equitable pricing. I don’t understand the differences. This doesn’t even touch on the used-game issue where I can recoup costs or make an even cheaper purchase of which Sony gets no slice. This is immensely frustrating for me, and I’m sure I’m not the only on. Given the loss of more profitable direct sales, it’s not a winning situation for Sony either. So, please pass the message up the line.

  • Can us Canadians get access to PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale.
You come here to buy our poutine and beaver tales but then forget all aboot us when you cross the border :I

  • thanks for the reply morgan.

  • Hey, look at me, I’m going to complain and act as if I don’t get my way then I’m going to cancel.

    Am I fitting in now?

  • Regarding the lack of digital pre-order bonuses, I have a couple counters(?):

    A) IIRC, Gravity Rush didn’t have a digital pre-order, but for the week of its release, all digital purchases included the retail pre-order DLC. So, bit of a time-frame skip, but the same value in that department.

    2) The ugly truth for me is that I often order games for their pre-order bonuses, then return the game itself. These LittleBigPlanet franchise bonuses, for example. I have LBP1 on disc and LBP2 from Plus, but I haven’t a Vita and I still have hardly gotten into ModNation Racers, but aside from cross-compatibility, there’s the possibility these bonuses won’t be available on the Store later (the Knights costumes from LBPV will make an appearance, but in a different color scheme). I feel un-genuine doing so, but if that’s the way companies play the sales, then that’s how I’ll have to cope.

  • @180 blah…blah…blah. we get it. You accept anything Sony does blindly. So freaking predictable.

@171 i agree but theres not much hope for Sony improving their digital service anytime soon. I’m hoping to see improvements like midnight release and preorder bonuses more active hopefully next month when they begin adding Vita to Plus.
They will also reveal the November list of Day 1 digital games soon as well, so maybe at least Playstation All Stars Battle Royale will get a midnight release, considering its SONY’s biggest release this year.

  • @180 and i love how you’re acting all high and mighty when addressing people who criticize Sony’s decisions, yet you confess to being excited to purchase an overpriced Special Edition of P4 Golden with nothing but crappy stickers and a pouch. You’ll have to forgive me for not taking anything you say serious.

  • Hey Morgan!
Thanks for the update as usual. I have a question: Will the Assassin’s Creed III Season Pass hit PS Store in time before the “Buy 100$ Get 20$ back” promotion ends? I really want to spend the rest of my 100$ on that =D

    Thanks!

  • @ #186 – Promethean

In places like Gamestop, the prices drop after a period of time. Sometimes it’s dependent on “what’s hot and what’s not” on how much the price goes down. And these price drops are even for brand new games. The games available for Digital sales are a bit cheaper than the original price of which the game came out.

Though, you make a very good point. I wonder if Sony is willing to match the prices of games in places like Gamestop. If a game has been out for over a few months, in Gamestop, it usually gives a price drop. I suppose, being as though digital is competing with retail, that the digital sales should get that same treatment.

That’s the “why” of the price difference, but still… it would be interesting to see price drops along the same lines. Great point.

  • @194: I’m basing these prices on what Amazon says is the MSRP, or the Manufacturer’s suggested retail. So, I don’t think it’s a case where the “real” price hasn’t actually dropped, at least when every traditional retail outlet lists the retail price as 19.99, as is the case with Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational. In the case of Amazon, the games are often even cheaper, but they list it as “savings of X% off retail price of 19.99”. I take your point though: It doesn’t really matter what the “official” retail price is. If Sony is selling the game, parity with the price of traditional retail availability, regardless of the “official” nature of that retail price, would be appreciated. Honestly? I wouldn’t even mind paying a dollar or two more: The convenience of having it all on a memory card to avoid cartridge switches is worth it for me. I just don’t want it to be a blatant rip-off of $7, $15, even $20 more expensive.

  • Ryumoau, blah blah blah, we get it, you’re just a spoiled brat who whines because everything isn’t absolutely perfect. So freaking predictable.

Every post is the same. As soon as I see your avatar and your name, I know I’m about to read a disgusting post full of whine, uneducated/biased opinion, and entitlement. When is it going to sink in that you can’t always get what you want?

Other than the opinionated stuff that’s specific to her life, everything Lisa said was right on target. Maybe she really likes stickers and pouches? Is that a problem with you?

  • where is the console version gameplay trailers of Medal of Honor? They always show pc version. Great way of marketing…

  • @193, Hope that gets answered too, I just need about $25 to qualify.

  • Nice! By the way, could you tell me if you plan to release Valkyrie Profile as a PSOne Classic? Please please! That would be AWESOME!

  • @Promethean raises a very good point concerning PSN’s very slow reaction time to match retail price drops. It’s a ridiculous, seemingly indefensible pricing strategy from Sony, but it still just boils down to that being their problem. The wise consumer should just buy it where they can get the best deal. I think Sony is just counting on people that don’t know any better paying those prices on impulse.
