The Drop: Week of November 5th 2012 New Releases

On PS3 this week and available for download on PSN, Sackboy returns in a completely new adventure where players’ fast-paced karting skills will be the key to saving the Craftworld universe. Get behind the steering wheel and get ready to race through fun-filled tracks, discover unlockables in open-world environments, and battle in karting arenas filled with pick-up items and LittleBigPlanet-esque weaponry in LittleBigPlanet Karting.

With online cross-platform play and save compatibility between the PS Vita and PS3, a battalion of Viking invaders have landed 1200 years late to the party in a bewildered and bewildering modern day Britain rife with rock ‘n’ roll, polyester, and color television. Unite the townsfolk and fight back against the invasion in When Viking’s Attack.

Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

LittleBigPlanet Karting

(Also on PSN) — Join Sackboy and Sackgirl on the starting grid for a new kart racing adventure! Fire up your engines, jump behind the steering wheel and take on your friends and foes in breathtakingly unpredictable battles through an ever-changing world of content. In order to save the Craftworld universe, players join a fast-paced karting campaign, filled with intense classic kart racing and ultra-competitive arena battles. Beyond traditional racing and battle scenarios are more adventurous driving expeditions, including objective-based missions, boss battles, and mini-games.

On the create side, players can customize their Sackboy, karts, and much more. The new level editor tools will allow players to construct far more than just kart racing games, as they can design their own karting experiences with the ability to make their own game rules, weapons, and tracks that break free from the constraints of a traditional racetrack allowing the imagination to run wild in a completely open environment. Players will also be fully able to share this content with others around the world through PlayStation Network providing access to what promises to be millions of LittleBigPlanet Karting experiences created by the community.

Nascar The Game: Inside Line — Hop in the driver’s seat, buckle up and start your engines for NASCAR The Game: Inside Line. Bringing the true NASCAR experience to consoles, NASCAR: Inside Line will allow players to race with the top NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers, teams and cars, as well as feature all 23 officially licensed racetracks.

When Vikings Attack!

(On PS3 & PS Vita) — In the all-action fighting adventure When Vikings Attack, a battalion of Viking invaders, 1200 years late to the party, are causing havoc in your town! In order to combat them, you form a posse of local citizens — a construction worker, a butcher, a policeman, a pastor, a schoolboy, etc. — and take to the streets together in order to use whatever is on the streets to beat back the invaders. Amass a huge horde and you can work together to rip out phone booths or pick up cars in order to throw massively damaging objects at enemies.

When Vikings Attack features both Adventure and Versus gameplay modes that can be played with one to four players. Adventure players can go through the game’s viking invasion storyline and smash enemies through a crazy storyline of single-player or co-op action. Versus players can play on PlayStation 3 or PS Vita against each other in four-player melee quickfire battles for wild fighting action.

Vanquish — The story of Vanquish is set in the near future. Russia and the United States are vying for ownership of the world’s fast-depleting energy resources and the US has constructed a space station in order to harness energy from the sun. Russian forces capture this space station and divert its harvested solar energy into a blast wave that destroys San Francisco, aiming to force the US into a total and unconditional surrender. In response, the US tasks its armed forces with recapturing the space station before the Russians can annihilate their next target – New York.

Portal 2 — Using a highly experimental portal device, you’ll once again face off against a lethally inventive, power-mad A.I. named GLaDOS. And this time you won’t be alone. Meet an expanded cast of characters as you think your way through dangerous, never-before-seen areas of Aperture Laboratories.

Absolute Supercars — From the racing minds at Eutechnyx comes the definitive auto package for every hardcore driving fan’s wildest dreams: Absolute Supercars! This racing game allows people of all ages and skill to get behind the wheels of some of the world’s most powerful supercars. Take part in quick races, time trials, championships and even an epic Career mode in an attempt to earn the big bucks and fill your Showroom with a cavalcade of stunning motors! From Ferrari, to Pagani, to Aston Martin and McLaren, there’s a car for everyone and a series of stunning tracks to race them on.

PID — PID is a creative, stylish, retro-flavored platforming adventure game designed to turn everything you know about 2D gameplay upside down. You play as a young boy that gets stranded on an old remote planet. He must fight off a variety of malicious robots bent on stopping him and befriend unlikely allies to shed light on a huge conspiracy that keeps the planet mesmerized and prevents him from ever reaching home.

The core feature in PID allows players to manipulate a powerful force that can be used to maneuver around the levels in thousands of unique ways. In PID, two players can experience the adventure together in co-op mode and help one another navigate tricky puzzles.

Toejam and Earl — Funk at last, funk at last, ToeJam & Earl, funk at last! That’s right people, SEGA brings you the game that funneled funk directly from the mothership right here to Spaceship Earth with this downloadable version of the classic Genesis game, provided through the PlayStation Network service.

In 1991, two aliens, Toejam and Earl, were cruising in their Rapmaster Rocket Ship, when ToeJam decided to let Earl drive. Bad move! After crash landing on Earth, ToeJam and Earl began their mission to get back home to Funkotron. Along the way, they traversed this most un-funky planet, avoiding earthlings, hunting down the pieces of their spaceship, and searching for elevators to take them from level to level. In this one- or two-player game, the goal was to find all 10 pieces of the rocket ship, and return ToeJam and Earl to Funkotron.

Toejam and Earl: In Panic On Funkotron — The year 1993 found the popular alien duo ToeJam and Earl on their home planet of Funkotron. Unknowingly, as they left earth for their return voyage to Funkotron, their cargo included a hoard of earthling stowaways. Because earthlings disrupt the Funk balance on Funkotron, the objective was to capture all the earthlings in jars, and ship them back to earth in rocket ships at the end of each level. This side-scrolling adventure for the Sega Genesis took advantage of a completely new layout and graphics engine, and developed a second generation of loyal fans.

Rygar: The Legendary Adventure — The story of Rygar begins with the Island of Argus being plagued by evil Titans. Armageddon has spread over the land, creating chaos as volcanoes, earthquakes, and monsters ravage the countryside. In mankind?s darkest hour, a hero rises from the ashes to defeat the Titans, rescue the princess and restore order to the land. The player will become Rygar and his legendary adventure will begin.

The actions of Rygar rely heavily on the use of his almighty Diskarmor, the hero?s weapon of choice in the game. The yo-yo like Diskarmor is one of the most important elements of the game. Created by gods, the Diskarmor is not just any weapon, it is an essential survival tool and divine instrument for the brave hero. The spiked razor shield will be used for attack, defense, and transportation.

  • Yeah, you guys forgot DBZ Budokai HD Collection. Its coming tuesday as retail, but would be awesome to have it as a suprise digital release as well. Even better would be some DBZ avatars. • I seriously hope GGXXAC+R gets released on US PS3 ‘s. I really want this game.

  • where is the bonus of $ 20 in purchases October?

  • Where is Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus!!!!!!????

  • More PSONE Classics Please!!! Sid Meier’s Civilization 2 would fill an excellent hole in the portable gaming world, not to mention the PSP/Vita in particular.

Also: Our $20? We did our part and bought a whole bunch. At least tell us the day we’re getting it. Not knowing is quite a bit more frustrating, even if the date is multiple weeks off: At least then, those of us interested in getting games now can make an informed decision on whether or not to wait or pull the trigger and end up buying something else with the credit. Thanks!

  • Yeah, my $20 is reserved for Guilty Gear. Can we, at least, get a ballpark estimate of when we can expect it?

  • cant wait to buy little big planet karting!! =)

  • No Guilty Gear? No Zone of The Enders? What is this!? And I was hopping to spend my $20 on that secksy discounted Catherine, but I still haven’t gotten it yet. If I get the $20 when that discount is over I’ll rage…RAGE! I’m writing a strongly worded letter as we speak, because I think you’d end up doing something like that…

  • while i love that you guys are adding more PS2 classics, i always seem to laugh because it’s almost all games that no one ever asked for. :P haha

still playing the Assassin’s Creed 3 + Liberation.

waiting for PS All Stars and Persona 4 to show up on PSN preorder, that would be sweet.

  • Dont bother asking rey anything, he never responds anymore. I doubt he even reads your comments.

  • This is cool and all but I just hope I can find the games on the new PS Store.. >:( You gotta fix the issue of games not showing up in the new store, Sony.

  • @38 It must be an issue with PSN servers. Is this every game you downloaded? I recall this happened with a few 60 min trial games.

  • Also, “Remember, remember. The 5th of November..”

  • Hey Rey,

I was wondering if you could give me some information about PS Vita’s PSP compatibility, or push me in the direction of someone who can.

Will the Vita get anymore compatibility for PSP games?

Back when the Vita was first released, I bought Wipeout Pure (a Sony published game) because I had heard that it was compatible on the Vita. Turns out, it’s only transferable on European accounts, not North American accounts. Since then, it has sat on my PS3, waiting to be transferred (I no longer have a PSP).

Should I keep holding my breath? Or consider it a wasted twenty-something dollars?

At this point, any info at all would be helpful, though I have to wonder why this Sony-owned game is available in one region, but not another (obviously, the hardware is the same).

    Please let me know.

    Thanks a lot!

  • No trolling, but doesnt halo 4 come out this week?

  • I like the SEGA and CAPCOM love on PSN….. so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ask them to release POWER STONE 1 & 2 for PSN exclusively!!!! Also try to get us Darkstalkers!!!

  • Hello Ray, I am sure the guys at the blogcast mentioned Sleeping Dogs for this week digital releases, should we expect it on the 6th?

  • Yay LBP Karting! Had tons of fun with the beta, also hoping to play Guilty Gear this week.

  • FIX THE FREAKING STORE before you update it!

I’m boycotting the new store, it’s a messy unintuitive mess, complete unorganised, slow and painful to navigate. There are no amount of games that can convince me to use the store, nothing, not until it’s returned to it’s former functional glory.

If it ain’t broke, DON’T FREAKING FIX IT!

  • @Supvic
The new store isn’t that bad, just give it a bit of time to get use to it, I still find it a bit confusing and it does take awhile finding something specific but I don’t have any serious problems with it aside from that.

  • @74 Yeah it’s with all games I download just about… a few of them get through okay but only if theyre small games in the couple hundred MBs range..
Also what happens on the 5th of november? lol

  • Bully as Ps2 classic.

    Make it happend please.

  • @86 Look up Guy Fawkes.
I was quoting a line from V for Vendetta.

  • It would be great if we have “Simpsons Hit & Run” with trophies in PS2 Classic session, even better if we could play in PS Vita and PS3 using remote access.

  • @88
I see lol well I never saw that movie so i wouldn’t know

  • Calling it now…the free plus “full” games this month will be NBA jam, Warhawk (Single player campaign only) and CoD classic (single player campaign only)

  • Portal 2 DLC!! I try to always support companies that try to do extra for Sony.

  • @91

    Warhawk doesn’t have a single-player campaign.

  • Epic Mickey 2 Demo! Nice :)

  • Rey, any news about this month Plus content?
And how much will Portal 2 cost?

  • No Guilty Gear yet!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I had to create a japanese account for buy this game last week… ¬¬

  • Is Portal 2 going digital or is this the PS Move add-on? Either way, take my money!

And will we see a Digital Copy of Budokai HD?

  • LittleBigPlanet Kart looks great….. Will take it and Portal 2 if the price is right.

That, and after I finish playing Tales of Xillia 2 and XCOM.
