The Drop: Week of December 3rd 2012 New Releases

On PS3 and as a full digital download on PSN, travel beyond the reach of civilization and find a lawless island ruled by violence. This is where you find yourself stranded, caught in a bloody conflict between psychotic warlords and indigenous rebels. Discover the island’s dark secrets and take the fight to the enemy; improvise and use your environment to your advantage; and outwit its cast of ruthless, deranged inhabitants. Beware the beauty and mystery of this island of insanity… You’ll need more than luck to escape alive in Far Cry 3.

Also on PS3 and PSN, BioWare’s award-winning sci-fi trilogy is bundled together for the first time in this compilation from Electronic Arts. Equal parts role-playing and third-person shooter, the series features squad-based combat as protagonist Commander Shepard travels across multiple galaxies in a starship while making a name for the human race. In each game player’s choices impact the entire storyline as save files can be transferred between games.

Enjoy this week The Drop.

Far Cry 3

(Also on PSN) — Beyond the limits of civilization lies an island, a lawless place ruled by piracy and human misery, where your only escapes are drugs or the muzzle of a gun. This is where you find yourself, trapped in a place that’s forgotten right from wrong, a place that lives by the principles of violence.

In Far Cry 3, players step into the shoes of Jason Brody, stranded on this mysterious tropical island. You dictate how the story unfolds, from the battles you choose to fight down to the allies or enemies you make along the way. Slash, sneak, detonate and shoot your way across the island in a world that has lost all sense of right and wrong. You’ll need more than luck to survive.

Resistance Collection — The Resistance collection packs together all three console releases in the Resistance first-person shooter series. featured are Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance 2, and Resistance 3. Also included in The collection are downloadable content packs for Resistance 2 and 3, including the Aftermath Pack and skin bundle from Resistance 2 and the Brutality and Survival Packs from Resistance 3.

Mass Effect Trilogy (Also on PSN) — Experience all three award-winning Mass Effect titles with the Mass Effect Trilogy. This action-packed RPG saga follows the rise of Commander Shepard from Alliance Marine to becoming the galaxy’s most elite soldier — the only soldier who can lead an all-out galactic war against an ancient alien race known as the Reapers.

Heart-pounding action meets gripping interactive storytelling as players decide how their unique story unfolds over all three games. With a team of loyal soldiers at their side, each player decides how they will save the galaxy, from the weapons and abilities they utilize to the relationships they forge or break.

UNCHARTED: Fight for Fortune

(PS Vita) — Uncharted: Fight For Fortune is an action-adventure turn-based card game featuring the heroes and villains from the Uncharted universe. The core gameplay in Uncharted: Fight for Fortune involves creating a team of Faction cards featuring heroes, villains, and mercenaries from the Uncharted universe, then using that team to defeat your opponent while defending yourself from their attacks. Each Faction card can be equipped with powerful Resource and valuable Fortune cards, which enhance their stats and give them special abilities. Once you’ve selected and equipped a card, it’s time to head into battle! During combat, attacks either reduce the health of opposing Faction cards or the health of your opponent. Defeating an opposing Faction card removes it from play, while reducing the health of your opponent to zero wins you the game.

This downloadable game connects up with the hit PlayStation Vita game Uncharted: Golden Abyss for players who want to further expand their card set. Using the 300 artifacts that can be found within Golden Abyss, you can go to battle with other players as well as AI opponents. The game can also be played independently of Golden Abyss, so owning the PS Vita title is not required.

Mass Effect — Set 200 years in the future in an epic universe, Mass Effect places gamers in a vast galactic community in danger of being conquered by a legendary agent gone rogue. A spectacular new vision from legendary developers BioWare, Mass Effect challenges players to lead a squad of freedom fighters as they struggle against threatening armies to restore peace in the land.

Mass Effect is the first in a trilogy of games with an overarching story. As the first human Specter – sworn defenders of galactic peace – your mission is to halt the advancing armies of a legendary agent gone rogue. But as you lead your elite team across hostile alien worlds, you will discover the true threat is far greater than anyone imagined.

Page Chronica — Page Chronica mixes vibrant 2D platforming with vexing word puzzles. As well as guiding the main character Topaz through enchanted storybook worlds, players have to collect the magical alphabet floating about. Collecting and rearranging letters into words correctly lets Topaz unleash spells and attacks, which she can use to take out the evil infesting the stories.

Rotastic — In Rotastic, navigating each course is quite simple – press any button to hook your rope to the nearest anchor point, spin around, gather momentum and release the button to fly from point to point.

While the controls are dead-simple, Rotastic features a wide range of levels and gameplay to challenge your skills! Various goals include collecting gems, escaping deadly traps, battling other players, smashing bricks, perfecting acrobatics, smashing chickens and flying through speed-runs! The solo campaign features nearly 70 levels, offering hours of swing ‘n’ fling fun. Replayability is another big feature; do you have what it takes to earn a gold helmet on each course? Pit your skills against your friends around the world by competing in the leaderboard challenges!

Under Defeat HD Deluxe Edition — Classic shoot ‘em up title Under Defeat lifts off in high definition and with a host of upgrades. Take to the skies to avert the oncoming war and protect the possibility of peace in the empire. Rumbling tank suspensions, massive explosions and dark clouds of smoke, the new HD version presents a further refined iteration of the original with improved artwork, textures and shadowing.

Guardians of Middle-Earth — A shadow grows over Middle-earth as the greatest armies of the Third Age prepare for the coming battle. Take up arms in the clash over Middle-earth with the most powerful heroes from the greatest fantasy epic of all time.

Inspired by The Lord of the Rings saga, Guardians of Middle-earth brings up to 10 players together in five versus five competitive multiplayer battle arenas in the epic setting of Middle-earth. The game offers more than 20 iconic guardians, including Gandalf, Sauron, Gollum, Thráin and many more, for players to control in player versus player (PVP) matches. Gamers will have the ability to connect with other players via an in-game voice communication system, as well as access to a comprehensive online stat and leader board system where they can track friends’ victories and defeats, and more.

  • @64 Have no idea what’s in store, so you’ll have to check tomorrow for PS+ update.

  • Was not expecting the Ni No Kumi Demo, really excited to try that out. Also DJMAX Technika Tune FTW! So happy this is finally coming out ever since they took out the Technika machine at the arcade where I live.

  • @Rey, why would you put a limited edition box for DjMAX TT? thats just mean, just reminded me that i have to wait for my game even after the release of psn version

  • Seriously where the hell is guilty gear?

  • Zanac X is the sequel to my absolute favorite game of all time! This game is stupid expensive on the secondary market (japanese only) this might be the best drop ever! I want to download it right now!

  • Ni No Kuni Demo? OMG!!!!!

  • can you guy put star ocean the last hope international on psn please?… and if you can ask capcom why is there no onimusha hd or something like it?

  • NI NO KUNI: Wrath of the White Witch – was unexpected, at least for me :).
But most of the titles like ME Trilogy and Resistance had already the release dates posted before by respective publisher. Nothing good on PSone and PS2 Classics, I hope will get some goodies for PS+. See ya inside the Game.

  • I am also pleasantly surprised by the news of a Ni No Kuni demo, especially so far in advance of the release date, at least Amazon’s stated release date. I haven’t heard from Namco Re: my CE in what seems like months. But I agree with @95, I’m going to skip the demo, too. I’m happy to see so many people are excited for the demo.

Since this seems to be the place people ask for things entirely outside Sony’s control, I wish Studio Ghibli would hurry up & release all of their masterpieces in blu ray.

I may eventually get Mass Effect 1, since all the xbots say it was their favorite, but not until I overcome my growing backlog. Or I’ll be playing the next Skyrim DLC.

  • Hi Rey,

    thanks for the heads-up!
You guys are doing a great job!

Still, I hate begging but just a couple of questions:

Can you add the following games to PSN because they are so much loved:

    – SSX Tricky (PS2 classics) –> Really this is the best of the series and would be so much free cash for PSN
    – Dragon Quest VIII (PS2 classics) –> also a great hit, would be bought immensely often!
    – Onimusha 2 (PS2 classics) –> regarded as best in the series and because of the lack of Onimusha this gen it would be very succesfull on PSN

Furthermore, I am still waiting for these games to become Vita-compatible:

    – Final Fantasy V (PSOne classics)
    – Chessmaster (PSP)
    – Shift (mini)

I know you aren’t miracle workers but hey, it’s nice to want things.

  • Where is the crackle app and Hulu + app for vita that was promised as coming soon at E3? Furthermore where is the ESPN app as seen at E3? I also want an NBA app and NFL/MLB/NHL app on vita.

  • Chulip. Oh baby.

  • So many of those PS3/PSN titles should also be receiving day-one Vita versions. Why aren’t you making this happen, Sony? The Vita needs content BADLY, especially now that CoD Declassified is a piece of garbage.

  • PS Vita Folders Please!

  • I’ll definitely be checking out the Mass Effect Trilogy and Resistance Collection in the future.

BTW can we get Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops up in the Vita store since Europe has it on their store?

  • where is PS Vita Plus free games???

  • Dear Sony Guys and Gals,

    Quick question…

Why can’t we ever see a console release for the DJ Max Series?

By the way, thanks for re-releasing Chulip. <3 That game is really cute, adorable and hard as hell. It's a really, really niche game that every PS2 owner should play – With that said, will there ever be a guitaroo-man re-release? Or will you guys just skirt around the must play / must own games with other really, really obscure games like Under the Skin and Firefighter FD18?

  • Holy **** great week in the store, i want Technika Tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @fergussen- check back in about 3-4 hours for the PS Plus update.

  • Mass Effect 1, here i come (im assuming you can purchase it seperately)

  • Where is Guilty Gear? -_______-

  • Oh, Playstation…
My advice to you is come out with better classics, or better games. Not to mention, ps2 on vita.
No kingdom hearts on vita? No borderlands, skyrim, fallout3, or basically any 3d games worthwhile that are not ps1 classics? Not to mention the psp, and ps1 downloadable games on the psn network fro ps vita is greatly limited compared to a ps3 and psp.
Just quite honestly, the ps vita does NOT offer what it could, and what it should. It has so much more potential, that you need to release and make it happen.

  • Ni No Kuni!!!

  • i cant wait for tomorrow and FINALLY PLAY MASS EFFECT 1!!!

  • Final Fantasy IV PSOne Classics! Please :)

  • Is NI NO KUNI: Wrath of the White Witch on the Vita?????

  • Definitely happy about that NI NO KUNI demo!

  • Nino Kuni FTW!!!

  • Ni No Kuni demo that seems like fun. Can’t wait for the Resistance collection…funny before I had heard of this collection I was trying to buy all three… What a relief.

  • @ fecks
Yes you can purchase Mass Effect 1 separately on PSN as a digital DL. Price should be $14.99.
I will be picking it up as well.. can’t wait! :D

  • NI NO KUNI: Wrath of the White Witch Demo. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve wanted this game for the last year, and I get to play a demo. OMGYES.

The game releases in January, why such an early demo release? Gather interest? Well from the OMGBBQSAMMYWAFFLE comments I think interest is high :)

  • OMG!! O_O
I just watched the E3 trailer and some actual game play for Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.
This game is like a dream come true for PS3 fans who love Anime. Especially those of us who cherish the works of Studio Ghibli. It really reminds me of their work.. don’t know if they are involved in this or not.
But no matter, I am definitely looking forward to Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch when it is released!
Thank you Sony for the demo.. I hope it is a long demo! :D
    <3<3<3 WHAT A GEM! <3<3<3

  • Can we please have a digital release of the old Tony Hawk Games PLEASE?

    Tony hawk Pro Skater 3
    Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4
    Tony Hawk Underground
    Tony Hawk underground 2
    Tony Hawk American Wasteland

For the love of God please!

  • Anyone else disappointed with seeing game play of Far Cry 3’s Shadows issues on the PS3? I’m still getting it but the dithered Shadowing looks horrible. The rest of the game is looking great but this is just sad that they couldn’t fix that and thought it was up to par to be released with such an issue. Games like this the shadow effect make a difference.

  • I’m glad the PSOne and PlayStation 2 releases are outside of the norm, but a brief write-up on each of them one what kind of game they are might be helpful. And a PS+ discount on them would be even more incentive to me.

  • Yeeees I’m really glad with the demo of LBP Karting being released…I know that its great but I missed the Beta and I still don’t have the money to buy.I’m also looking forward to Farcry 3,I hope for a demo too…and damn no demo for Page Chronica??.BTW people who dont have or never played Resistance series please buy that amazing collection you won’t be disappointed.

  • LEMMINGS!!!

  • Oops wrong address, lol here is the big difference in the freebies we get in the US to Europe: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=24800

  • Is the Resistance collection gonna b on PSN ?

  • I hope Level-5 help us get more WKC2 DLC. I’m glad the Ni no ku ni demo was released early.

  • Ni No Kuni!!

  • So… No plus this week?

  • Here I thought today was the update and I rushed home to download Mass Effect 1 but it happens tomorrow. I thought the blog meant the 3rd of the week meant today? They should just label the week of the 4th since they release everything on Tuesdays!

Just kind of misleading, you know! Especially if you waiting for a game that you been waiting forever to be release on the PS3!

  • I was hoping Silent Hill HD collection was coming out this week, since it just hit xbox. Any news on that?

  • hey it almost 4 am est and where the bloody hell is Far Cry3 for download . i didnt stay up wait to fine out me and the rest of the world have to wait till you people deside to update the store and an other thing Sony, the new store looks like you told a little kid to come up with the idea in other words either put it back to the old style or make it look better. thats all i got to say .

  • @ #116: “where is PS Vita Plus free games???”

They released all six of them at launch, which is the maximum (compared to PS3’s 12 rotating games). None of them are likely to rotate out until after the holidays, to make sure everyone that gets a Vita for the holidays will still be able to access all of them.

In other words, there may be the occasional sale, but there won’t be any new free Vita content through Plus until 2013. This won’t stop people from indignantly posting, “Where’s my free stuff?” every week, of course.

  • DJMAX Technika Tune is finally out! YES!

  • Monkey_KING678 where??? I don’t see it!!!!!!
