It has been a big weekend for us here at Naughty Dog. We revealed a brand new trailer for The Last of Us at the Spike Video Game Awards on Friday along with the most important news for any fan – that The Last of Us will be released on May 7th, 2013!
This is our second trailer release and our first since announcing The Last of Us at least year’s VGA show. If you didn’t catch the show when it aired live or the Spike video stream, you can watch the full, uncensored trailer at the top of this post. We’ve tried to keep the trailer as spoiler-free as possible, while giving you some hints at the tense, emotional narrative the development team has crafted for The Last of Us.
That’s not all – we are also excited to announce details on the bonus content you can get for pre-ordering your copy of The Last of Us. Participating retailers will offer the Sights and Sounds Pack, which includes:
- The official soundtrack of the game
- A PS3 dynamic theme featuring the cover art
- Two avatars for your PSN profile – Winter Joel and Winter Ellie
We’ve also worked with GameStop to provide exclusive bonus content in addition to the Sights and Sounds Pack. Pre-ordering at GameStop also nets you the Survival Pack, which includes:
- Bonus experience points for multiplayer
- A multiplayer melee attack booster
- Some extra starting in-game cash
- Special customizable character items for multiplayer
- Two special bonus skins for Joel and Ellie which will be unlocked after your complete the single player campaign
Multiplayer, wha? We’re not quite ready to talk about it yet, but stay tuned as we’ll be revealing more details on multiplayer before The Last of Us is released on May 7th, 2013.

Not sure why everyone is complaining about multiplayer. I understand how some games have half-a**ed, tacked on MP, but this is Naughty Dog we’re talking about! Uncharted’s multiplayer is amazingly fun.
Which leads me to my suggestion: Please try to implement some kind of rank system so that whenever I play, I’m not up against an entire team of people wih no lives who totally destroy my team. I can’t play Uncharted 3’s MP anymore due to this. Not everyone has countless hours to invest in learning every little trick of MP until they’re unbeatable by anyone who doesn’t know every little trick as well.
Any chance of a multiplayer beta?

I really cannot wait for this game, i don’t even have to play it to know it’s already going to be my favorite game.
I dont really get why people hate the idea of multiplayer its just even more gameplay for an incredible game, what i am hoping for is that the multiplayer is rather slow paced like the single player game and you dont have tonnes of bullets
This game looks spectacular. I was really disappointed when I saw it was a PS3 exclusive, guess I’ll wait and get a it when the PS4 (or whatever the next gen will be called) comes out.

Make the multiplayer have a mode called survival,like dayz or warz but dont leave out the other stuff like Team deathmatch.

whenever there would be a collector’s edition or game of the year edition for the last of us, it should have all the pre-order content. also, i hope that there is a way to control the amount of vulgar language(F*#%) and the graphic(m-rated) amounts of blood, if there ever are any graphic amounts. the controlling should be changeable at any time by pausing the game and it should be on a scale of 1-3: 1(none), 2(reduced), 3(normal). also, please let there be earnable tweaks for infinite ammo, rapid fire on all weapons, and no longer having to reload. it would be nice if at least the infinite ammo tweak is available from the start of the game, however. p.s. please get the actors from the uncharted game to play their characters in the uncharted movie.
Has there been any talk between Naughty Dog and Sony making a game or a spin-off of sorts for TLOU for the PS Vita? If Naughty Dog did so, I’d definitely buy a Vita if it came bundled with TLOU – that would be totally awesome!!! The Vita needs all the help it can get these days, and I’d like to see their sales take off and a game like TLOU bundled with it – and a 10% to 20% price drop – at least on the Vita itself, would be make their sales shoot into orbit!
Anyway, it’s exciting to hear more news about The Last of Us – I can hardly wait for its release!
@212 I don’t see unlimited ammo, no reloads, rapid fire etc being available in this game. It completely goes against the entire survival aspect in the game. They’ve said this isn’t going to be a game about shooting zombies, but about the characters. Adding ‘tweaks’ that make it play more like COD and BF will ruin all of the tension and struggle the developers have been working so hard to create.
can we pre-order the game in gamestop now?
I’m not expecting less than greatness from Naughty Dog, I’ve been playing their games since PS1 days.
This game looks great, and really can’t wait to put my hands on it .

The only thing I’m worried about is that if TLOU has multiplayer, it will have trophies revolving around it. If it does, please don’t make them hard I want to try and platinum when It comes out. Can you confirm if there is going to be trophies for MP or not?
