PlayStation Plus: Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Free for Members

This week PlayStation Plus continues the piping hot delivery of updates to keep you warm this December. Last week, you took the plunge into the underwater world of Rapture with BioShock 2 joining the Instant Game Collection. This week, you’ll be busting out your shoryukens and controlling gravity with two great games: Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition and Rochard!

Don’t have PlayStation Plus? Go to the PlayStation Store on your PS3 or PS Vita or click here to get access.

December 11th PlayStation Plus Update

Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (PS3)

Free for Plus members

Street Fighter IV was already a bonafide hit when it ushered in a new era of 2D fighters. Take that winning formula, refine and balance one of the best fighting game engines, add four new characters (Yun, Yang, Evil Ryu, and Oni), take part in new online modes and you’ve got one of the most complete fighting game packages ever. See you online; I’ll be the guy using this handy guide to my all time favorite fighting game character.
Rochard (PS3)

Free for Plus members

A PSN gem, Rochard brings fantastic puzzle-platforming in the form of taking control of astro-miner John Rochard. Though a humble premise it may be, you’ll be addicted to the gravity control mechanics of Rochard as you solve environmental puzzles and explore new ways to navigate the wonderful trappings of this galactic platformer. It’s a PSN exclusive that, if you missed, you should definitely make the time to play. You can read more on the game from the PlayStation Blog’s coverage. Please note, this title will only be available free in Plus for one week.

That’s it for this week’s update, and remember that the above updates will be in effect once the PlayStation Store updates on December 11th; usually between the times of 2:00pm – 5:00pm PST. Also, for those wondering, we do have PS Vita games on the way in December that will add to the already great library of content on PS Vita Plus. Watch for those to be announced in this space later this month.

  • @493 – Amen, bro.

  • you really are a troll arent you??
i’m not gonna bother with anything you said as it’s entirely too asinine for me at this hour.

  • @485

So….you’re disabled, 99% of your money goes to your meds…..which is understandable, that sucks…..so you got Plus….great idea, since for $50 once a year you get new games to play every month without paying anything extra. Sound, thrifty thinking. It’s the best investment you could have made as a console gamer.

Yet, you turn around and complain about the games being offered to you through Plus because hey, they’re ancient and you’ve already played them all? (yeah, because everyone bought ROCHARD and the THIRD version of SF4 especially when they’re poor, right?) That doesn’t add up. How have you played $1200 a year worth of games when 99% of your money goes to your meds?

I swear, I think the M$ Defense Force is back up to their old coordinated trollings. A dozen posts in the LBP post, but 500 in the Plus post, 400 of which are just being rediculously negative?…..Yeah, that’s Xombie M.O.

  • @bamahollis

You’re just mad because you know I’m right.

And now you’re flat-out lying, going back to that “5 hours” claim again even though already showed you that I hadn’t been online that long.

  • “asinine”

Of course. Predictable response. Blah blah.

Even though you’re rejecting me, your subconscious mind knows that everything I’m saying is true. It will hit your ego eventually.

  • @499, i’m not complaining, i’m stating my opinion. games released in 2009 are ancient by computer standards. sorry if thats a problem with you.
i’ve played many games with my friends or via my old computer. is that so difficult to fathom???
and surprisingly enough, 5 years ago, i had some more money to play with..
    Crazy right???

and fighter games are boring to me. after one fight i’m ready to move on. past 6 months we have gotten 3 fighters, i’m merely pointing out that the style of games released have all been pick up and play and never think about again style of games.

  • and again, why does this have to be an argument on why my opinion is so offensive??
i am merely expressing it for the people at sony to register, not some troll to get an erection off of

  • @Darth-Krayt

Of course, he’s exaggerating. He knows he can gain support for his side by pulling at people’s heartstrings. Unfortunately he doesn’t realize that only the weak would succumb to such miserable attempts at pity attention, thus, he could only ever build up a crew of absolute weaklings who’ll never help get him anywhere. It’s a fruitless endeavor.

But what can you do… if he’s dense enough to complain about a voluntary service, he’s also going to be too short-sighted to realize how transparent his tactics are.

  • @Morgan first of all thanks to responding to so many peoples comments this week. Negitive or positive. Second i vited nothing but only because I got rochard free from a recent humble bundle for the pc. Great indie game.

On the topic of updates i think you guys really need to send out a more detailed questionare of plus subscribers because i see a lot of people commenting on the same issue that i myself have. Weekly updares vs monthly. I think a possabke solution to this would be to do a monthly overview of the plus update but save some of the sweeter details for weekly updates.

Now as an rpg fan first and formost i do hope to see something from plus besides hybrid shooters like borderlqnds but for niw. Thanka a lot for uncharted and gravity rush on vitq i was just gonna pick them up when plus updared to include vita. And persona 4 golden is a huge sucess imho. Ive already doubled my vita useqge since it came out.

  • You’re the troll, chunterosa. See I can use that word too. Troll. You’re the troll. You’re getting an erection from complaining over a crumb on the ground.

  • Wow, I have never seen so many comments on any post here before.

BTW Nice update! though now I know how people feel who already own the game that you offer. :) I do have couple of suggestions though:

    1. Try to offer games from all genres, this way people may not like all the games you give, but atleast everyone will get something they like (I would love some RPGs!).

    2. Discounts! Give good discounts on many different games every month/week. This gives much more variety for users, and some people like me prefer owning the game they like.

  • Rochard is a great game by the way. I enjoyed every second of it. A rare gem.

  • Hey Morgan, would it be possible for you to check into the reason why there is usually such a big difference in the EU and US PS+ drops? If the drops were the same in many cases like the limbo, and batman arkham city drops, odds are in favor of a considerable increase of subscribers and people holding onto their PS+ subscription.

It’s not that we don’t really enjoy the games and promotions we receive with the US subscription, but it is discouraging to see considerably better drops at times like this from one side or the other. I also understand that what is “better” is in the eye of the beholder, which is different in all cases, but again, when you look at the value or at least sheer review power of the drops from last weeks EU drop to the one for the US, they received a lot more value than we did.

  • It’s not like Plus has only offered a couple kinds of games. They’ve given us every kind of game aside from like…..REALLY deep RPG. And yeah, there have been a handfull of fighters, but it’s also been a spectrum of fighters from under-ground, to under-rated but the hardcore are into, to now the Ultimate/Complete version of the most popular competetive fighter. And also, alot of American gamers do have a taste for fighting games. It’s died down since the 90’s, but alot of the base is still there.

And it’s also not like Plus has given us only old games. We’ve gotten alot of awesome digital games Day 1 like The Simpsons, Double Dragon, Trine and many others, and if not Day 1, very close like The whole Sam and Max series and the whole Back to the Future series. It’s not like they can hand out full retail games Day 1. Dvelopers gotta eat and Sony can only offer them SO MUCH to give it out for Plus. And this is America, the #1 by far biggest video game market in the world. It’s giving away alot of money in America to give your product away. Less so in Europe.

  • Great I can’t wait to try these games out. I do however wish that there could be some more ps1 classics for free on Playstation plus. Quite a few games were offered for free but it has been months since there has been a new addition. There are several games on the ps2 classics page that would also make great additions to plus.

  • Anybody that complains about PS+ is honestly just ridiculous.

If you took a year’s worth of PS+ content and put it on a disc, the disc would be worth signification more than 60 dollars.
And do you really want REALLY GOOD games? Cause chances are in almost every case, you already own them

  • I suggest you give PS Plus members deep discounts on pre-orders of upcoming games or a limited time discount on new games.

This will give people what they actually want and put great value on the PS Plus system.

The free games are nice, but there are problems. People who own them will get pissed, not everybody likes the same game and finally they are not really free more like a netflix subscription model.

  • Loving the service, been wanting to try rochard for quite some time now, keep up the good work!.

  • I will really love, if it’s possible to have LIMBO as a free game in the US store just like they did in the EU one.
Also I noticed about an online store, in wich EU players can search, view and most importantly buy games and content just like in consoles but in this case is PC.
Could be possible to make it avaliable for North America too?

    Thank you guys

  • does super street fighter 4 ae have trophies ? ive been playing it lately but its a drag changing discs so having a digital version would rock. also i love my vita but the one game i miss from my psp is fate/unlimited codes are there more psp games coming to the ps vita?

  • I’m excited to see SSF4AE, thanks so much! I had to sell my SSF4 disc recently because of hard times and now you’ve made my holidays :)

    Cheers!

  • Hey Morgan, you should work on getting MAG into the IGC. It would be perfect for PS+. Let’s see the reasons why:

    1. Owned by Sony, so no roadblocks to offering it free
    2. Great game, but has a dwindling online community.
    3. The influx of PS+ users would make the people still playing it happy and could make it possible to play the big multiplayer modes again.
    4. It’s older than dirt, we all know how much you guys love giving us old games.

I think it would be perfect as a “secondary” monthly game. What I mean by that is not the monthly headliner, but the equivalent of what Vanquish is this month for EU.

  • LOL wowww these comments crack me up. where is the loveee ? so much violence hahaa.

  • i wanted mortal kombat

  • + PainOfSarrow on December 10th, 2012 at 11:17 pm said:

Well all we ever get is fighting games, 2D side scroller beat em ups, and 3-5 year old PSN games that no one wants. There’s bound to be a lot of hostility in the comments sections of these posts.

  • Nice update, now I don’t have to open my Super Street Fighter 4 disc that’s sitting on the shelf. I’ve already previously bought Rochard, so now others can enjoy that game too.

Here’s hoping the next Vita PLUS update will have ESCAPE PLAN, and sometime in the future some PSN titles, like Rush N Attack Ex Patriot for Plus.

    /wishlist.

  • US Playstation Plus is not worth the $50 price tag. Considering how much more superior it’s EU counterpart is, the cost should be $40. What’s worse? — there are no discounts on the actual PS+ service. Moreover, it’s the Holiday Season and there are no new games with significant discounts or discounts of the Plus service itself.

    EU Christmas discounts —

    90-day PS Plus subscription – $13
    Sleeping Dogs – $23
Medal of Honor: Warfighter – $43

Further discounts on Far Cry 3 and Hitman Absolution to come.

Games like Dead Island, Red Dead Redemption & Mortal Kombat, should’ve been included. With Dead Island 2 and Dead Space 3 coming up soon, I hope you release the Dead Space 2 and Dead Island a month before that happens.

    My 2c.

  • Oh and also the functionality to upgrade one’s account from a secondary account to a master account would be great.

  • What would be great, is to give us the ability to change our Region and PSN ID, for a fee of course. Just like we can on the XBOX 360.

  • I already had Batman AC and RDR retail since day 1 launch, so EU isn’t as appealing to me as it is to others. Although, if I really wanted to I could just create another account and subscribe to PSN+ EU (no region lock is great!).

Of course, there are ridiculous people out there that want to have US and EU content for the price of one. For that I say, spoiled much?

No we don’t want both, we just want what the EU gets. I would gladly pay the price difference for the chance to switch the region of my PS+ sub.

  • @Morgan
Can you use your flaming rail gun (http://bit.ly/UvlQVz) on the people working on the PS Vita System Software and get them to push the 100 icon limit on the system.
PS+ on the PS Vita will really be a joke when you try to install that extra game and the system complains to you….

Oh! And please take some of the comments prior to mine as a grain of salt. Some people don’t realize that PS+ is not meant to give you EU’s PS+ selections, or Japan’s or any other market. And said people need to figure that the games that they are asking for are already selling for a bargain everywhere else!!

    And in another note.
Really thing about which PS Vita games to release. The system is awesome, but the selection of games that it initially got were not, except for Uncharted and Wipeout, which is already on PS+.
If you understand what I mean, most of the people that will benefit from PS+ for PS Vita will be the ones that just picked one up on Black Friday/Cyber Week.
Therefore, throw some polls here for them PS Vita owners that swallowed full price on February and get them the games they really want!!

Also @Morgan, stay classy, hadoken! (http://www.hadoken.net/?p=5414).

  • I can’t afford $4.17 per month! It’s really cutting into my candy fund!

  • @drGiggless So let your US sub run out and get an EU sub. Fixed.

Don’t hold your breath thinking Sony is going to cater to your need of swapping regions on the same account, unless it’s in high demand. Which I highly doubt.

yes we know you can’t afford PS+, yet you still defend it to the death and insult everyone on this blog. go away troll.

    ——————–
I wish I could. My sub runs until middle of next year and I’m not about to reward SCEA’s incompetence by paying for 2 subs at the same time.

  • @drGiggless Life is hard.

  • In Espa~a are very more best games for playstation plus…

  • @drGiggless

I don’t insult EVERYONE on this blog. Only people like you. :)

Notice how I never mess with anyone who doesn’t whine like a spoiled brat?

    @dinkin-flicka

Truly. You think he’ll ever recover from this tragedy? I’m betting on no.

  • we’d better get something good for free on plus for x-mas and new years,

    or im gonna be pissed….

  • Wow, I was about to buy this off amazon a few days ago. Thanks, Morgan for the update!

  • So glad i bought ps+ totally worth it.

  • Oh joy one game I have and one I have no interest in. I’ll be happy when my PS+ expires so I can stop being reminded that I pissed away money on this trash.

  • Also Morgan man seriously just say everything at the start of the month and dump this weekly stuff.

  • @DragonWolfJD

Don’t worry bro, you’ll be alright. Tough times build character. ;)

  • @invalidts2 Post 539 – LOL, Left 4 Dead 2 is an Xbox 360 and PC exclusive ;P

But Lollipop Chainsaw and L.A Noire makes sense.

  • @invalidts2 – some recommendations for this months ps plus
    example
    dec. 25th
    ps plus free games
    lolipop chainsaw
    l.a noire
    mega man 10

But if this happened, then you guys would just complain:

“Lollipop Chainsaw? Why?!?! I hate Suda51 games they are so lame! He thinks he’s so cool! Plus it’s like, so OLD now that it’s been out for 6 months!”

“L.A. Noire?!!? NO!!!! I just bought that during Black Friday! I mean, I know it seemed like a good deal getting the complete edition for $20, but if I knew I’d get it free with Plus I never would have bought it! They should have given it to me earlier! Why can’t Sony read my mind?!!? Don’t they know I’m special!!!”

“Mega Man 10? WTF! Another ANCIENT crappy side-scroller retro piece of crap that NOBODY wants! Why are you so dumb Sony? AARRRGHHH!!! Mommy, can you call Sony and tell them to stop being mean to me?”

  • @PrimeroIncognito

    Haha! :)

Just as long as they offer 1 big selling retail game that’s no more than a year old, with smaller games around it per month, then I don’t think anyone has a right to complain.

  • @ SinisterHealer

I understand. The strategy you speak of here is reasonable. It doesn’t appear to be greedy on your part, nor does it seem to be completely beyond Sony’s ability to offer what you say (although it could be, because they need developer/publisher co-operation with all these offerings).

However, I still think nobody has a right to complain about Plus anyway, as is. Because even if you only got a single downloadable PSN game valued at $9.99 per month, it’d still be more than double your investment back per the monthly cost. But since Plus provides SO MUCH MORE than that every month, I really can’t fathom how or why these people believe they need to condemn the program so vigorously. Repeatedly. And so disrespectfully. It’s chump change.

  • And (I forgot to say), actually, the MAIN reason no one has a right to complain is because Plus is ENTIRELY VOLUNTARY. That alone should exempt Sony (and the rest of us who would like a better vibe on this blog) from having to deal with all this crap from the crybabies.
