PlayStation Plus: Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Free for Members

This week PlayStation Plus continues the piping hot delivery of updates to keep you warm this December. Last week, you took the plunge into the underwater world of Rapture with BioShock 2 joining the Instant Game Collection. This week, you’ll be busting out your shoryukens and controlling gravity with two great games: Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition and Rochard!

Don’t have PlayStation Plus? Go to the PlayStation Store on your PS3 or PS Vita or click here to get access.

December 11th PlayStation Plus Update

Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (PS3)

Free for Plus members

Street Fighter IV was already a bonafide hit when it ushered in a new era of 2D fighters. Take that winning formula, refine and balance one of the best fighting game engines, add four new characters (Yun, Yang, Evil Ryu, and Oni), take part in new online modes and you’ve got one of the most complete fighting game packages ever. See you online; I’ll be the guy using this handy guide to my all time favorite fighting game character.
Rochard (PS3)

Free for Plus members

A PSN gem, Rochard brings fantastic puzzle-platforming in the form of taking control of astro-miner John Rochard. Though a humble premise it may be, you’ll be addicted to the gravity control mechanics of Rochard as you solve environmental puzzles and explore new ways to navigate the wonderful trappings of this galactic platformer. It’s a PSN exclusive that, if you missed, you should definitely make the time to play. You can read more on the game from the PlayStation Blog’s coverage. Please note, this title will only be available free in Plus for one week.

That’s it for this week’s update, and remember that the above updates will be in effect once the PlayStation Store updates on December 11th; usually between the times of 2:00pm – 5:00pm PST. Also, for those wondering, we do have PS Vita games on the way in December that will add to the already great library of content on PS Vita Plus. Watch for those to be announced in this space later this month.

  • @Morgan Thank you for the answer, if it isn’t yet possible to get the PS Vita to turn itself on and in this case find my house’s Wi-Fi connection to then download and sync my trophies. Perhaps add the option to automatically turn itself off after the update has been downloaded instead of remaining in standby mode?

  • Holy crap 547 comments on one blog post?

  • Man, I seriously cannot wait until people’s memberships expire in June and hopefully(if they aren’t hypocrites) let their subscriptions lapse and stop coming here to complain about such ridiculous things. I know people will still find something to complain about, but hopefully the number of people will decrease since so many of these unsatisfied customers claim they will not renew.

I cannot stop thinking about how this is such an amazing deal for only $50.

  • god of war beta on the 12th dunno for plus but for me lol

  • all we keep getting are puzzle and fighting games but this fighting game should of been the first and only one we have got, not the other crappy ones, we need updates like bioshock 2 and street fighter every week, and i hope since its christmas soon and you guys are trying to get more people to buy a ps3 you give us some awesome stuff

  • I TAKE BACK WHAT SAID, THEY GET BATMAN REALLYYYY???? WTF??? why do we get such a difference in games like seriously wtf?

  • @dubloon

Actually, I’ve been a plus subber from jump, and planning on continuing with the service. I’m just curious about how many people are legit subscribers and how many with like a month sub that are in troll mode.

Some of the comments bring up some really good points, but there are others that are just so silly they can’t be real.

  • Atleast PrimeroIncognito entertained me today with his pathetic posts, especially about candy fund considering he doesn’t have PLUS xD.

  • FINALLY WIN ONE PLUS IN SUPER STREET FIGHTER ARCADE EDITION ON THIS Is THIS CHRISTMAS

  • Yeah!
I just sold my old version of SSFIV (Euro) in order to buy SFIV: Arcade Edition, cause i wanted this “new” / complete version of the game…
Imagine my suprise when i check the news about “PSN Plus World” and see which game i gonna win for free…
I agree that PSN Euro in this month, until now, have more “appeal content”, but in this week, PSN PLUS USA “made my day”.

  • could have add less add vanquish like what the EU guys are getting :(

  • The only way the choice for this game that has totally been bought by pretty much everyone, can redeem itself is by every single PSN user having the ability to fight either you, Morgan Haro, or Shane Bettenhausen online, on demand.

Since we know there is only the possibility for Haro to really care enough to do it, we can assume we have lost with this latest ‘new game’.

  • i cannot believe the post eclipsed 500 comments, lmao…

other news.. still downloading SSFIV AE TODAY!!!!!!!! WOOOO

  • Nice! Now I will be able to play SSF4:AE without limits with my wife. She loves this kind of games :)

  • i am a 3 month subscriber 2 times in a row now. its now xmas and i have the chance to subscribe for a year. instead i will probably choose to buy a triple a title. i still don’t understand why so many people need to take offense to the fact that i have not enjoyed the rental offerings and i want to voice the opinion to the people offering.

  • furthermore, if i’m going to be spending 20 gigabytes of my bandwidth, i would at least expect a game with story, character progression, not a super fancy super pretty button masher. boring. so when you factor in the fact that my internet bill is taking a huge chunk, now it’s suddenly more like 30 dollars to rent this game.

  • @561 or you could just buy an internet service that doesn’t have a cap on bandwidth…i wouldnt even waste my time with internet service that i couldnt download with bandwidth limitations…

i use clear…love them, uncapped 50 a month and support nat type 2 :) love those guys

  • Not bad :|

Will be one good update, but, fighting game again?

  • I have the perfect solution to everyone’s EU store envy… STOP READING THE DAMN BLOG!!!!! I don’t read what they are getting. I don’t live in Europe. I really couldn’t care less what they are getting. They get Crysis 2? We get Street Fighter. Who says Crysis 2 is the better game? Maybe I hate FPS games, so I’m super pumped for a fighting game, or vice versa. Either way, I still don’t care what EU plus is getting. Most of the games I get free on Plus are ones I passed on in the first place so I’m glad I get a chance to play them at a practically negligible cost. If you really hate Plus so much, stop subscribing. It’s not like its mandatory like an Xbox live account, which is 60 bucks a year and I ain’t got no free games from Microsoft. So really, can everyone just lay off trolling on Plus? Be it Europe or North America? And on a personal note, licensing is most likely why Europe and NA differ so much in content. It’s all about the boring legal crap. Rant over. Thank you. :)

  • Never really cared for Street Fighter, and never really cared for the Team Fortress look a like games. Nevertheless, I see there are people whom like these games, hopefully next weeks’ update will cater an action packed RPG or shoot’em up style AAA title.

So far the only great game I have enjoyed is last weeks’ Dungeon Defenders.

  • WHAT ??? Another fighting game .. and its wayyyyyyyy too big for me to get it soon ( almost 18gig )
im gonna give a try to rochard for sure …

    Bring more vita ………….

  • I like US PLUS more than European. Don’t no why people complaining about US PLUS. Really don’t like all those boring Batmans and Red Dead Whatever.

  • I never seen so many ungrateful people complain about free stuff. Nobody is forcing you to be on psn+. Every month will not be for you. Sony is trying to please millions of people not just hundreds of people. You still can’t name any of Sony’s competition that is giving you free games like this. Try the game out already if you don’t like it delete . we got to be more positive about things like this .

  • I’ve been a member now for a few months, been enjoying all the games since I only got my PS3 this year. Ratchet & Clank has been fun, Renegade Ops was alright, LBP2 I had beat but nice to have, Outland is fantastic, Pac-Man was a kick, I can’t wait for Bioshock 2 (I am almost through 1), Quantum Conundrum was a big surprise. Wasted lots of time on Dungeon Defender’s. I had already bought Uncharted and Gravity Rush, those are very strong titles. Wipeout was short-lived, I suck at driving, but still gave me an adrenaline rush. Final Fantasy Tactics, I am still playing that game. Mutant Space Blob Attack thingy, fun little play-through. I already played Puddle but it was entertaining. Lots of fighting games, which I HATE (but that’s OK! some stuff isn’t for me). I will definitely give Rochard a spin.
All in all I’ve been overloaded with awesome content with my PS+, its awesome! I’m running out of content so it’s a little disappointing when I don’t get a title I’m interested in, but you can’t please everybody, and overall it’s been a great investment. It’s too bad about Big Sky Infinity.
Given that it’s THE holiday season, I would like to see some extraordinary stuff!
    Keep up the good work.

  • Funny how so many people complain about the US plus and the EU complains about theirs. No-matter what goes on plus in both US and EU, there will always be complainers and there will always be people thankful for what they get.

I think the best solution to make more people happy is to allow them to select say 2 different genres (after selected lock the rest) of games they want and get a game based on that genre. For example 1 player may want a shooter and a racing, they get a shooter and racing game while another may get sports or whatever. Just a thought as not everyone has the same taste in games but will receive something that they do like.

  • Oh man that’s going to be a big download haha. Big step up though. I’m wondering how you guys got Capcom to make it free for ps plus though haha. Sony has some Sly Coopers working for them.

  • My original post of this is awaiting moderation. Hoping this one goes through. Anyway, I was a bit bored and decided to break down the games by release date (year) and retail/PSN

    -2008-
    Saints Row 2 (r)
    -2009-
    Borderlands (r)
    -2010-
    Just Cause 2 (r)
    Bioshock 2 (r)
Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition (r)
Lara Croft & The Guardian of Light
    Pac-Man Championship Edition DX
    Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
    -2011-
    Infamous 2 (r)
    LittleBigPlanet 2 (r)
    Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One (r)
    Warhamer 40k: Space Marine (r)
    King of Fighters XIII (r)
    Bloodrayne Betrayal
    Hardcorp: Uprising
    Outland
    Payday: The Heist
    Renegade Ops
    Sideway New York
    Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone
    Dungeon Defenders
    Rochard
    -2012-
    NFL Blitz (r)
    Starhawk (campaign only) (r)
Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown (r)
    Choplifter HD
    Double Dragon Neon
    Quantum Conundrum
    Gotham City Imposters
    The Walking Dead (ep 1&2)

I think this is mostly accurate… not claiming 100%… but the point is that there seems to be a rather large disparity between retail and psn releases by date (among other things). Why is that? And can you please explain why a role playing game is missing from the IGC? Thanks Morgan. (and no, I don’t want you fired).

  • @571

.Did you even look at the comments on the EU store? There is a whole lot less complaining going on I only counted 4 complaints in the first 2 pages, that is a whole lot less then on here. Yea there will always be people that don’t like what’s going on that week, but to have 41% say they don’t like when a Full games and psn game is coming out, then you know something is wrong. Like giving out a 3rd fight in 6 months

    @drGiggless Life is hard.

@dinkin-flicka, That’s why drGiggless is trying to find some solutions by writing in this blog, If you can’t help him then shut up instead of being a, ya know.

  • @ossiecastro5 actually yeah, i play games that can keep me entertained for more than months at a time, most likely multiplayer interesting games, hell i still play 2k11 from time to time…. and yeah its more of a rental service seeing as how you cant keep these games for life unless you keep the service for life. On that note it takes longer to download and install these games then I have fun playing them, except for a couple here and there, i haven’t made my money back more than half of these games been more of a demo to me seeing how uninteresting they are to say the least. i got it, next week will be STICKMAN-FIGHTER-ULTIMATE-PRO VII.. play as the original stickman or play as his son Stickboy in this ultimate fighter edition play as ms.stickman and their daughter stickgirl. Or Puzzleboy-Platinum, Go and take the challenge in this universe of puzzles!!! Really? Really? have a plausible argument if your going to come to me about anything, I might complain but I can back myself up.

  • @Thaddeus6859 – why are they going to stop reading the blog, they want to see how much more they get so they can give feedback to Morgan so Morgan can give the feedback to the team so we can see some results in the future.

  • @Moofboy – yeah we seen these on every post on the blog about 50 times from people, ok… now its annoying

  • @ YungShep I think he was talking about the memory on the system for that one, they say the streetfighter is 18GB. which is ridiculous

  • I’m personally thrilled that I no longer need concern myself with purchasing Street Fighter IV after years of deliberation regarding whether or not to do so. Though I understand the exasperation others share upon the revelation of yet another fighting game. Perhaps offering greater variety would be beneficial in quelling the complaints of your more finicky subscribers?

  • Nice update, I’m going to need a new HDD very soon. I think IGC in PS Plus is for newcomers, such as myself, maybe you could offer more discounts, and perhaps add a racing game for variety.
P.S. I have a question: what would you recommend, buying GT5 XL or NFS MW? I don’t think I’ll buy a racing wheel and I know they are different types of games but I’ve been doubting about buying one or the other.

  • Thanks for the update! While Street Fighter doesn’t butter my bread, it’s a great addition to have. I remember playing the demo of Rochard and liking it, but never buying it. I’m looking forward to that. PS Plus has really converted me from an Xbox fan to a PS fan. I really think this program and the quality titles have shown that the PS3 just has more staying power. I also enjoy the free avatars, themes and misc. goodies. Games are great, but will we continue to get more of the extras? Thanks!

  • For all the people crying that the US has got it bad, well all I have to say is check out Japan’s list.

    http://www.jp.playstation.com/psn/plus/list/

  • @438…I have had gamefly before, and I hated it.
    (1) almost every game that I had in my queue were almost always not available, and this went on for months after the game was released.
    (2) when I did get said game that I wanted and returned it , I had to wait almost 3 weeks for another to return in the mail.
I gave gamefly almost 11 months before i finally canceled it.
They have a great concept, but horrible game rental availability.
PS+ is not a rental service, but for what i pay, its given me way more value for my buck.

  • @500, you’re quoting the wrong comment. get off your high horse anyway. this update sucks, and so does your opinion :P

  • @444, you do have the abality to set your ps3 to auto download if your on vacation or away from your ps3 for a few weeks.

  • @517 demitri_14 – Hate to break it to ya, but Fate/UC was pulled from the PS Store some time ago, IIRC. So, missed the boat on the digital copy.

@566 ArmyGuyVince – Looks is about ALL Rochard would have in common with TF2. Maybe humor, but much of TF2’s scripted material is outside of the game itself.

@570 Istyle318 – Unless you’re really gunning for the ability to back up copy-protected save files (ATTN SONY: Why?! Not even cut+paste for individual users?), none of Plus’s features can’t be done manually. So, the bulk of your bill goes toward game selection. Folks keep reading “free games” and leave off “with subscription”. I’d imagine many folks plopped a year’s worth down on the premise of previous offerings, only to see Plus’s distribution model change so drastically half a year ago.

  • @572 IrishDude2 – Like the Welcome Back Program? (Which, FTR, still leaves me incapable of downloading inFAMOUS from the Store, instead restoring to the quagmire of a Plus subscriber’s Download List.)

@585 onslaughtree – That’s not what you think it is. The will automatically patch things (inc. the firmware), upload PS3 save data to the “Cloud”, and download “recommended” media/games/etc. It does not allow one to make purchases away from the console, nor does it allow one to queue user-determined downloads.

  • True………….you can always try logging into someones eles ps3 and adding said games to your download list for later. Seems like a good last resort.

  • I’m new to the PSN and so far have been really thrilled to see the free games available. I love the PS3 in all with minor exceptions.
I understand that when someone pays alot for their PS3 that they think they deserve more. In all, Playstation/ Sony doesn’t even need to supply free games. Especially the quality of games that are up there. True, I don’t necessarily agree with some of the choices, but when you look at XBox network or the Nintendo network, the PSN is far and above better at connectivity, discounts and FREE stuff.
I bought Suikoden for $5. The disk is more than $50 to buy in the real world. I’m happy to just be able to play it again as it is a great game.
I would love to see more games become available at a low cost. I believe that a lot of us, if given the opportunity, would reinvest into some of the older and beloved games given they aren’t setting us back too far.

Even though there is room to improve, complaining about what is already miles above the competition is silly. It’s like complaining that your car doesn’t go fast enough when the option is your bike.

Thanks Sony, I look forward to what is coming next year.

  • is it me or does sony give me games that anyone can beat in 25 mins this is by far the worst ive ever seen for ps+ overall this year like the instant game collection was great but that was a 1 month release and thats about as good as it got

  • @TWODEEEE – The difference in games comes from its different teams running each store

  • mmm only that 2?? no more freebies? new avatars? geez… well… I’ll download SF 4 AE now… thnks sony by the way…

  • @dark1725 – like i said they probably look at the month with the most expiration’s to get people to lock in for another year they put out the good stuff haha.

  • more like marketing sony makes more money in eu
