  • 18gb for SSF IV?!?!?!? Does it come with the Uncharted Trilogy tacked on???? I have a 750gb hard drive and it’s only got 50 gigs left… well, now just 32gb.

  • Freshh23: “PHYSICAL version (which cost more to release)”

Not necessarily. At this point, printing more copies of optiimzed game code to dirt cheap DVD-ROM probably costs next to nothing. The ports on the other hand, take time to work on. This takes the work of talented, knowledgeable people, who need to be paid. Then, of course, digital copies require servers which need to be paid for, and the subsequent constant maintenance of those servers to keep the product available to consumers requires technicians… who, you guessed it, need to be paid. Electricity is required to run those massive servers all day every day as well, which also costs money.

  • In the case of GTA: SA, musicians royalties are also an included cost. This ups the price. You ask why the physical copies are cheaper then? That’s because the musicians have already been paid for the number of copies that have already been manufactured, and at this stage, the product has aged to the point where Rockstar is able to (and must) liquidate the back stock of products that are no longer moving the number of units necessary to justify holding a spot in their current promotional rotation.

The digital versions are a NEW version (technically), thus, the laws that entitle musicians to their cut of any newly released product that contains their property comes into play here. They need to be paid, legally, (blame the laws if you don’t like it) and that’s why the game costs $14.99 on PSN/XBLA.

  • the max payne 3 dlcs shouldn’t be free for whom bought the season pass?

  • Freshh23: “For the idiots who think PS2 BC was removed to reduce costs, Sony THEMSELVES said that wasn’t the reason.”

The main reason was to put the focus on the future, going forward with the PS3 and it’s constantly growing library, encouraging developers to invest time and energy into the console. This is good for all parties involved, including us gamers, and ultimately for the progression and survival of the industry.

However, there’s no denying that it would definitely require an extra debt to include the Emotion Engine and any other required parts to run the PS2 titles properly.

The PS3 model which played PS2 games through emulation also didn’t do so entirely accurately. This, combined with the OBVIOUS fact that Sony SHOULD receive their cut of the profits from any classic game sales being played on their hardware (instead of stores like GameStop), makes it understandable that they decided to remove emulated BC as well.

  • @202/203 Primerolncognito

No wonder all this CRAP is in video games today. Pretending everything you said is true (I’m not saying it’s not, I just haven’t done any research yet) that still doesn’t justify a $15 price tag. Also, there are things that say otherwise from what you say because SO many times has ports of older and newer games been released to other consoles/platforms, physical and digital versions, and they have been cheaper. There’s no excuse.

  • I have a bit of a problem. I have 34GB of free space on my PS3, but it won’t let me download Street Fighter, which is 18GB. What’s going on?
(And on a related note, how can a 2D fighting game take up more space than Infamous 2?! That’s NUTS!)

  • @207

You’re gonna have to free up 2 more GBs dude…you need at least twice the amount of space available before it will let you download…just delete something and re download it…why it’s so big, I have no idea…capcom would have your answer.

  • Oh, and while I’m here, is anything being done to make the PSOne Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games playable on the Vita in NA? I dream of playing Crash 2 on the subway…

  • @208: Thanks! I had a feeling this was it. Needs room for the install file and the installed game….

  • @205

    Wow, such a damn shame.

Having PS2 BC wasn’t/couldn’t and won’t/can’t hurt the PS3. Where is the proof that supports that it would have? There’s proof that BC doesn’t hurt the console with said BC and it’s history, none of the consoles with BC have been hurt by having BC.

PS2 removal was not done to reduce costs, Sony THEMSELVES said it!

Your last statement is way too much. Makes me want to disappear you from the planet, or at least of the products I’m a consumer to because you’re the type of people that make everything bad and worse.

What the hell are you talking about?! Sony and all the companies already made the profits from the PS2 games we owned and own. To you we should pay for them twice? WTF?! There’s nothing wrong to have “Classics” on the Store for people who want to have a digital version, but it SHOULD NOT be the ONLY option and PS2 BC SHOULD NOT have been removed.

Less options is HELL, more options is what’s BEST. Wake up drones.

  • @195 (Freshh23): Why the heck do you have to re-buy your PS2 games if you already have them on physical disc? It’s not Sony’s fault that you sold your PS2 or that it died. They did not tell you to sell your PS2 and if it died, the PS2 is over 10 years old and no company in the world makes a consumer electronic product that lasts forever and can’t be held responsible when it will eventually stop working. Just go out and buy a new or used PS2 for dirt cheap and you don’t have to re-buy any of your PS2 games. Why is it so essential that they must be played on a PS3? You do realize that you can hook up more than one console to a single TV, right? So stop acting like Sony is making it impossible to enjoy your old games.

  • @207 im not really sure. my best advice is to erase a disk based game off but not the game save. save the in game save to your ps cloud or just keep it there.. and erase the game off and add the sf4 . when you want to start back on the siad game you can without starting back over.

I dont why the game files are so big but it says its the acrade version and that has to be huge if its from the actual arcade. LOL . << thats a joke btw

    >Pretending everything you said is true (I’m not saying it’s not, I just haven’t done any research yet)

soooo……you haven’t done any research and yet you still feel compelled to rant about things you haven’t researched?

1: they removed backwards compatability due to consumer demand that they reduce the cost of the ps3, not including the Emotion Engine for the ps2 shaved off cost

2: OF COURSE physical is cheaper, these are DVD’s printed a long time ago, their costs have already been paid, PLUS retailers are motivated to move them off the shelves so they are no longer taking up space. you can go to Walmart and they will pay you to take PSP games out of the store, it is taking up valuable shelf space that they could use for a larger Skylanders display

  • cont’d

3: there are benefits to digital that do not exist in physical. go buy a disc of GTA:SA, then scratch it, now call the store back and ask for another copy and see how long they laugh before they hang up on you. the same title bought digitally can always be re-downloaded in case of ps3 exploding, theft, little brother erasing it to save more hentai on the HDD, whatever. Plus, you can have it on multiple ps3’s at the same time. try that with a disc, let me know how that works out for you.

4:Rockstar sets the price on GTA:SA, not Sony. You mad about $15, go to Take Two/Rockstar’s website and rage against the machine there.

  • It’s a combination of things, and I for one am quite content with Sony’s decision to take those matters into their own hands, not allowing places like GameStop to rake in all the profits for themselves from classic titles that consumers are still interested in playing. You should complain about GS if you’re going to complain about anything here. Don’t worry, GS still gets theirs… from the very same sales that continue to come from those who’ve kept their PS2s. GS has their place in the industry, but at times it feels like they’re trying to put the entire business in a chokehold…

As a bonus, you get 2 copies of the game with your digital purchase, and you’ll essentially have it “forever”. If you get sick of the game and delete it, but then feel the urge to play it again, it’ll be there for you to download again at no extra cost (which you’ll be happy about if that happens), rather than what’s been happening here, which is, people getting tired of a game thinking they’ll never play it again, sell it, and then years down the road when they get the itch, they not only may struggle to find a copy of the now older game, but have to pay for it again, when they could have just held onto it and avoided all the stress.

  • Hey Morgan & Kristine,

I’m going to be out of town Christmas week without access to my PS3, as I’m sure will lots of other people. If you guys have any input with this, I’d like to suggest that anything that comes out the week of Dec 18th (like a new PS3 free game, or deep discounts on anything) be kept up for more than 1 week. I’d hate to see a bunch of stuff get released next week and know by the time I get home it will be gone and I’ll miss out on something I’ve been waiting for.

  • @212

You’re either a kid or one of those adults that don’t see the whole picture and just see their own little bubble.

Short answer: There are products that are older than PS2 that still work, all my consoles that released before PS2 still work and my PS2 still works. Play on PS3 means upscale and convenience, you know to consumers, US! YOU might not care but that doesn’t mean PS2 BC shouldn’t be there. Stop looking at your preference or personal opinion and look at the big picture, how things actually are, outside of your bubble.

Stop caring more about the companies than yourself. Remember companies just care about themselves and don’t give a rats *** about you AT ALL. They just to make as much money as possible from you, even if it’s greedy, ripping you off or anti consumer, they will push it as far as you let them.

  • @211 a few scum bag gamers used piratied games in that area and were exploiting the console , that why they removed it. it sucks but it beats being sued by 15k+ devs. It would costed them more to support it in that state with the said actions going on than to remove it.. and go the port / hd route which is a safer route or everybody.

I think it would be great if Sony answered you, don’t you think? I don’t know why people take it upon themselves to be public defenders of the Sony name…if Sony cares soooo much, they should be able to take the time to actually defend themselves I think…i don’t know, just an opinion. Not saying I agree or disagree with you btw, I’m pretty indifferent on the BC issue but I understand the desire for answers at least.

  • @218 freshh23

  • Wait, nobody commented on this when McButz78 said he’s been a Sony fan since 1947?!! C’mon, that can’t be true, that’s right around the time WWII was still a huge sore wound in the American consciousness and nobody was a fan of anything made in J-land. And, McB, you can’t really be that old, right? And a gamer?

Primero: I’ve been really busy at work for 2 days so haven’t been able to keep up with the weekly whine festivals known as PlaystationPlus Update and Store Updates. I appreciate your fruitless efforts to convince these tweeners to be a little more realistic. BTW, I think your Goofus is a girl. Fights like a girl, anyway.

‘Night, Uncle Morgan and the rest of you. I’m in the middle of building my palatial estate in Skyrim and I need to find more iron ingots!!!

  • Woop! Free SF4 Arcade Edition! I always wanted to try that game, I only played the original release of SF4 and it was great, can’t wait to try out the new characters, quite the lengthy download though 18gb? :O Pretty high for a fighting game. Good thing I have that 320gb, though with all these awesome PS plus games I might need to upgrade to a 500gb in the near future. I love you Sony :’)

  • @Freshh23

You must have a reading comprehension problem. Apparently, you missed where I pointed out that you should complain about the laws if you don’t like the effect it’s had on prices of certain games. I didn’t make it up. I’m stating what is…

I didn’t ever say BC would hurt the console… it doesn’t. Hell, we’re discussing a PS2 classic here that runs on emulation code! I simply pointed out what Sony’s philosophy was with going forward, which coincidentally was another thing they had said themselves, as well as their decision to (rightfully) acquire any profits available from classic game sales being played on their current console.

But when you said, “Makes me want to disappear you from the planet”, I just realized you don’t have the intelligence required to understand what I’m trying to tell you. I was really only trying to help you understand. Now I feel like I just wasted my time. Crap.

  • @211 (Freshh23) – Just go out and buy a used PS2 at a pawn shop for dirt cheap or buy a used PS3 fat that still has BC if it is really that essential that you play your PS2 games on a PS3 because of stubbornness or because you’re too lazy to hook up a PS2 and PS3 onto the same TV. If it makes you feel better, Sony won’t see a penny of the money spent on used hardware.

Saying that PS2 classics from the PSN Store is the only option is a flat out lie.

  • @lisatsunami

Hee hee… you might be right about Goofus… I don’t know why I didn’t think of that. :)

Thanks for the kind words too.

I’m done here for the night. Peace.

  • No they cut backward capability so they could redo and sell ps2 games again for a profit. Plain and simple. GTA:SA is15$ because they know they can sell it for that. More profits. I not dumb enough not to think sony does not have anything to do with what goes on there psn to sell. There hands are in the cookie jar too. There is things we wont and haven’t been addressed in months. They show they do not care and I for one am going to show how much I could care less too. I only bought 3 used games for ps3 in 2012 and not very much for my vita. So for 2013 until they start caring a little more I will only buy used games then also. And only what I will play at the time until buying another. Mad, not at all. Just tired of filling like between me and sony I am the only one who is trying to make this all work out. Sorry sony but you need to show us as gamers buying your products that you appreciate us giving you our money to keep things going for you.

  • I hope we get a better Christmas gift for plus!

  • Why is the price of San Andreas different than from the post listing all the PSN drops before? Kinda feel cheated at the fact the price changes at the last minute.

  • Grace, morgan, or anyone else,

What is going on here?! NO PS one classic support for the vita, psp games still dont come to the vita. WHY IS THERE NO VITA SUPPORT?!

This is getting too much honestly.

  • A bit off topic, but am I the only one whom absolutely HATES the new store layout?

  • @231 Bigcalv2002
Nope, most people hate it…or at least a large chunk of people.
They’ve replaced efficiency and functionality with …well…pictures randomly strewn about the screen…gets slightly better with use but still sucks pretty hard.

  • @222 im a buisness man gaming is just a hobby.. and yes im old what want me to do grow tomatos in the back yard and watch paint dry . i rather play playstation :)..

To be honest with you in those times every one was buying japanese things and other country things. No one was buying american till after ww2.american products where crap even back then, nothing has changed really but inflation of products and decline in quality. to keep folk impulse buying “apple iphone anyone”

I still work 14 hrs a day, if something keep you feeling young , then keep on doing it as long as it positive. Just exercise. drink water. eat wheat bread and vegitables stay away from pork and coffee. You’ll live a long time.

No, you are not, the new store is pretty terrible, it is harder to navigate, more visuallu cluttered, and incredibly slow. It really is awful, and I am shocked they are using it in it’s current state, rather than pull it and work on it. I see what they intend to do, what they envision, but it is far from ready, it is really terrible.

  • @201 It requires double to install, then the original gets deleted.

  • @182 Did you try relogging here? Seems to be a caching issue, but if you’re a plus member on psn itself, should be no problem.

  • For all those hating on the new store layout, I think it just all comes down to people’s general “fear of change”. Face it, the old store was extremely dated. Also, in terms of difficulty to navigate?? Honestly, if you can’t use the search feature and type 2-3 letters for what you’re looking for, then im sorry but its not the store that’s “slow”, its YOU.

  • @237
So, people just aren’t allowed to have a preference at all…that’s it…just whatever is new is better, no arguments no complaints…haha…um, okay…btw i can use the store just fine…doesn’t mean I have to like it…and no i’m not afraid of a store…hahaha…seriously why people take offense when other people criticize inanimate objects just cracks me up.

  • Perhaps if their “complaints” were actually legit ones, it would be more valid and worth looking into.

    As #234 stated:

Incredibly slow.? No, its rly not, its actually like butta! Perhaps that person should check their own net speed.
Hard to navigate? Search feature is your friend and takes mere seconds!

So, if your gonna complain, at least have legit reasons, otherwise deal with it and cease your jabbering.

  • The DLCs that released for Assassin’s Creed III and Borderlands 2 respectively:

    BL2
Is the Collector’s Edition pack part of the perks that came with the Mechromancer pack or another pre-order pack?
Is the Creature Slaughter Dome apart of the Season Pass DLCs?

    AC3
Is the Hidden Secrets DLC apart of the games Season Pass DLCs?

… I don’t want to basically buy the same things twice for these titles.

  • @240 You might want to ask Gearbox about BL2 Season Pass. Same goes for AC3 Season Pass

  • @239

Well my complaints are simple…every page has different sized boxes for random pictures…it’s a layout that makes no sense and only serves to make things look snazzy…it serves absolutely no other purpose….here’s a giant box here, here’s a tiny box there…oh here’s one you can barely see in the corner…in the old store you clicked new releases and there was everything in a nice and neat format…maybe it wasn’t all BOOM in your face great, but everything was uniform and pleasing to the eye. I’ve heard people complain about load times…I haven’t had that issue…I also don’t mind the search function. Also, it didn’t take me through 4 or 5 screens just to check out in the old store. The new store isn’t impossible, it’s just inefficient….no it doesn’t bug me that much but I don’t like it.

  • What does bug me, btw, is the fact that I can’t sort my download list which has nearly a thousand items…it’s a product of having my ps3 since near launch and i honestly don’t even know what I have anymore…but that’s not the new store’s fault and I’ve given up on any kind of solution to that problem.

  • @243, it has already been stated several times that Sony are aware of the DL list issue and are in the process of implementing a list search feature.

  • @244
Well that’s good to know…and I haven’t heard that even though I’ve asked several times and never gotten an answer, you’re the first person that’s ever relayed that information to me….it’s honestly my biggest complaint…if I was really unhappy I wouldn’t use my ps3 as much as I do…which is a lot.

  • You can find the comment in the new PS Store walkthrough vid. Eric Lampel mentions it towards the end.

  • @246
Well thanks for the heads up…it’s something I’ve been hoping for for quite some time now.

  • My pleasure. Happy Gaming!
