Resident Evil Revelations Creeps to PS3 May 21 with New Features

Survival horror fans! I’m super excited today to announce that Resident Evil Revelations is heading to PS3 this May. I know a lot of you guys have been patiently waiting for this one so we’re happy to be bringing you the definitive Resident Evil Revelations experience along with some new extras. For those that haven’t heard of RE Revelations, it’s a little bit different than some of the other Resident Evil titles you may have heard of or played recently. Revelations harkens back to the classic “survival-horror” style gameplay where you’ll be exploring dark, creepy areas with little (and sometimes no) ammo to protect yourself from whatever might be lurking around the next corner.

The storyline focuses on Jill Valentine and her partner Parker Luciani as they track down the whereabouts of series standby Chris Redfield and his new partner Jessica Sherawat. Jill and Parker are investigating the last known coordinates of their comrades on an abandoned cruise ship known as the Queen Zenobia when they’re thrown into the middle of bio-terrorist conspiracy full of danger, mystery, and of course plenty of T-abyss mutants.

What’s new to the package? On top of the core campaign and co-op RAID mode experience we’re adding new character costumes and new playable characters and features to RAID mode, providing an even higher difficulty mode called “Infernal Mode” for RE ninjas, adding a new enemy to the mix and randomized positions for all enemies, reduced load times, more save slots, more weapon customization parts, more character skills, ResidentEvil.net integration/unlockables, completely reworked visuals, and of course lest we not forget the fact that you’ll get to play all of this in high definition in the comfort of your own home on PS3.

Resident Evil Revelations will be available May 21st in North America (May 24th for our Euro friends) on PS3 via retail disc or as a day-one digital download on PSN for $49.99. Hope you guys enjoy the game and be sure to hit me up on PSN for some RAID mode!

  • I know I’m a bit late to the party here but I still want to put my opinion. I loved this demo on my 3DS I was very inclined to purchase RE:R when it came out, but the fact that I don’t care for 3D and I really wanted to play this on dual sticks I didn’t buy it and you guys missed out on my $ unfortunately. So I can tell you I have ALWAYS been a Capcom supporter aside from the hearsay on the internet about you guys, because I could care less what people think…if I like the company and games they offer I will buy them period. After reading the reasoning behind why this game will not make it to the Vita I can’t help to wonder if you guys really think we are stupid. There is no legitimate reason why this game could not come to the Vita. I am EXTREMELY disappointed in this and I must regret that from this point forward you have lost a faithful customer. I will not SUPPORT Capcom anymore, this was a blatant slap in the face to Sony, yes I am aware it is coming to PS3 but the bottom line is you guys could have made a Vita port if you really wanted to but decided not to bother. I am done with you Capcom, thank you for all the memories and great games but I really feel strongly about this and will NEVER AGAIN buy another Capcom game.

  • I preordered my vita and my copy of sf x tekken at the same time. Sadly, the copy of x tekken came 6 months after the ps3 and 360 had negative reception with the community.

It would be nice to be just told that this was the reason and that there needs to be sufficient demand.
rather than acknowledging that the content of the game has evolved, the excuse of resolution is just awful.

Or just admitting that revelations has handheld exclusivity would be fine too. Its a lot more plausible than what has been stated.

mr capcom, we don’t like being lied to.

~also, im not sure if the psp content or the ridiculous people who have japanese locale on their vita for mh portable 3g are factored when your board decided on projects.

  • Add me to the list of pissed off Vita owners. I would buy this on day 1 if it was coming out for the Vita. What
    a pathetic excuse, Capcom!

  • this is a huge bummer, i know the vita has low sales but passing on support will do nothing for both capcom and sony, and in the end just makes the fans mad. pick up your game capcom or it will eventually catch up with you

  • you dont port to vita because of the sales, we all know you only care about money, if it is so hard to port to vita, you would never make vita street fighter x tekken or marvel vs crapcom 3!
    you are disgusting!!

  • Just wanted to point this out from those sorry excuses for answers posted on the first page to comment 42.

    1. 3D is doable on two out of the three consoles you’re porting this game to. In your response, you kind of blatantly admit that you all are gimping the PS3 & 360 versions due to the WiiU not offering 3D. With the 3DS version having 3D, you’re effectively removing a feature because of that aforementioned fact.

    5. 3DS and PS3+Xbox 360 infrastructure let alone developing games for them are extremely different beasts. Even just the screens as you mention are completely different resolutions/functions.

Odd reply, isn’t it? That second one oddly looks like yours and two to one says it’s very, very factual. Unless developers over all these years have lied about how hard it is to port games to PS3 due to the different architecture of the Cell processor. Great way to get sales for your game. I for one won’t be supporting this blatant BS excuse nor this blatant ripoff of a title.

But if that’s not enough… $49.99 for a handheld to console port that’ll have been out for over a year and started selling at $39.99!

  • And what’s this about then?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MT_Framework

“MT Framework is an exclusive seventh generation game engine built to be used with “all of the Capcom next-generation games”[citation needed] on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (and later on the Wii and the Nintendo 3DS), as commented by Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Devil May Cry 4, and Resident Evil 5. MT stands for “Multi-Thread”, “Meta Tools” and “Multi-Target”. Originally meant to be an outside engine, but none matched their specific requirements in performance and flexibility. Games using the MT Framework are originally developed on the PC and then ported to the other two platforms. Keiji Inafune mentioned in an interview with 1UP that the lead programmer for MT Framework designed the engine specifically for Dead Rising, Lost Planet, and Mega Man Legends 3, which Inafune has been hoping to make for several years.[1] MT Framework 2.0, which was first introduced with Lost Planet 2, provides better visuals over its predecessor.[2]”

Oddly enough seems like that engine was used for Resident Evil Revelations on 3DS… Plus Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 on PS Vita.

  • Ha. Since I bet that comment won’t get approved, everyone looking for proof of BS simply look up MT Framework. It’s the engine that’s used for Capcom titles. The framework allows then to create on PC then port to the consoles. Resident Evil Revelations on 3DS uses the engine. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 on PS Vita does as well. They could port but are simply choosing not to, giving lazy excuses as to why they aren’t.

  • No Vita version no buy. Yes I can buy it for my PS3, but this type of game was made for the Vita. Playing with earphones/headphones under the covers is much better than playing on a big screen. Thanks for giving us Vita owners and potential Vita buyers the finger.

  • Its said that you guys actually had to come up with an excuse for not bringing it to the Vita. You shouldn’t have said anything. Now you made it worse and opened up a can. Don’t buy this game guys. Or buy it used. Make sure Capcom hears our voices loud and clear.

  • No Vita = No Deal, what were you thinking Capcom? There is no way that porting the game to the consoles is more difficult than porting it to the Vita.

  • “Hey Stargazr, when we were developing Revelations for new platforms we really wanted to hone in on the experience you get with a large format screen, surround sound, etc. This type of setup really helps players get sucked into the horror vibe and enjoy the game to its fullest extent.”

Ah, So why did you guys even bother with the 3DS version? The Vita can handle the port, Capcom can’t.

  • It’s really unfortunate you had to skip the Vita. The Vita is a wonderful system capable of doing “large format screen, surround sound, etc” . Although not as large as a HDTV it is still large enough for a game like Revelations. Not to mention playing this game on the go or if someone else is always using the HDTV. Lots of potential lost. I hope you still consider it in the future.

  • Your company’s decision to not release on the Vita is ridiculous, but your excuse for not doing so is worse, it’s a straight-up cop out. Please admit the truth; Capcom executives did not see profit potential in releasing on the Vita, so they decided not to.

Decisions like this are what is going to hurt the Vita, due to a lack of AAA third party games being developed for it. But, game companies have stopped taking real risks, and everything is starting to suck.

  • It’s great news capcom how about bringing re0 and reremake to psn & live too.

  • The vita is dying its make sense capcom choose not to waste making it.

  • Sorry i ment to write the vita is slowly dying it makes sense capcom choose not to waste time making it.

  • If the Vita is dying, it’s because the BS Capcom just pulled.

Sony takes a good chunk of the blame because they aren’t risking enough for the system. Have some faith in your own system, Sony. Promote it. Give it a new IP from a top developer. Or an exclusive sequel, not spin-off, to a big game. Your head is far enough up Naughty Dog’s rear to get them to crank out a Vita exclusive. Call up Quantic Dream and have them work on something. Better yet, call up Platinum Games. That’s where most of Capcom’s talent went anyway. Have them do what they do best. Make a good game.

    MAKE. IT. RIGHT.

  • @217: Japan Studio is a top developer. Media Molecule is a top developer.

And all that makes a game a spinoff vs a sequel is a number.

  • Umm Hello? Mike? Where are you? Should we assume your silence is because you’ve gone back to your bosses and told them of the backlash your company is receiving for not making a Vita version? Is your company actually going to LISTEN to the fans? Are you actually going to address the anger you’ve received? Don’t you dare say you’ve addressed it by referring back to you original comment because several people here have clearly show how full of crap that answer is. TELL WHOEVER IS RESPONSIBLE AT CAPCOM THAT PLAYSTATION VITA OWNERS WANT A VITA VERSION OF RESIDENT EVIL REVELATIONS.

Otherwise I like many others will have to re-consider whether I want to support your company.

  • That’s just great. It’s fantastic that the best Resident Evil game in years is getting ported to more systems so that more people can enjoy it. But sadly, I don’t have all the time in the world to spend in front of my TV playing games. What with grown-up responsibilities, I’m lucky when my PS3 gets used for more than Netflix. That’s why I was so happy when I heard that UMvC3 and SFxT werecoming out for Vita. I bought them both because they were console quality games. But, apparently, even though you can make console quality games on the handheld, you won’t do it anymore. No Okami and now no Resident Evil. It’s funny how you defend this decision, when Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault, Dead or Alive 5, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, Playstation All Stars Battle Royale and your very own Street Fighter X Tekken have been/are being made so faithful to the console versions. But this one was just too hard. You know something, Capcom: I’m glad I bought RE: Revelations used.
Sony, I do realize that there’s only so much you can do about this. But seriously, you need to do something, otherwise YOUR expensive business venture will cost you more money, and I understand you’ve been bleeding that quite a bit lately.

  • Mike Lunn,

It’s disappointing enough that there will be no VITA version, let’s not add insult to injury. I’m glad that others like myself are speaking out about the lack of support for the VITA. It’s time companies realize what a great device it is and that they need to develop for it. I say get the VITA version started and let’s get SSFIV AE for the VITA as well. Maybe some Bionic Commando too, rearmed would be a nice fit.

  • Leave the lame excuses to yourself.

  • that’s money they aren’t going to b getting for me… and about 4 million possible sales… yeah capcom that smart…yall must b doing great…lol yall don’t need money

  • to clarrify it would have been a day one purchase because i hear it actually goes back to its survival horror roots, and to this day the origianl resident evil trilogy is one of my favorite game series ever (next to legacy of kain), which is something ive been dying for this gen, but with how RE6 turned out maybe its a good thing it wont be coming to vita because it really isnt the campcom we grew up with anymore

  • THANK YOU! CAPCOM

Day 1 buy for me… May 21st can’t come soon enough!

  • This blog it seems has become nothing more than a haven for trolls and overgrown children with an overinflated sense of entitlement.
You Vita whiners represent a very small minority of gamers.. Capcom and the rest of the game developers will not be hurt by your lack of support.
So just go if your going to go.. but do it now and never come back. No more of this ‘one-foot outside the door’ BS.

  • ^Most of us own more than a Vita.

    :D

$60 says I buy more games than you do.

  • here is the prof, watch this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRcmRNGjU1s

they say that is easy to develop for vita, only two weeks to do this demo
what money can’t do… right CRAPCOM?

  • Ohh RE:Revelation~~!!! No Vita? *put money back in my pocket*. Seriously Capcom, only fighting game for Vita? *walking away to the sunset*

  • cant wait to try it out it look bad… i cant wait too play love all the resident evil games i love alot re6 best game of all and god of war too

  • Elvick it doesn’t matter. They will not miss your money if you don’t buy it, plenty are going to so it doesn’t matter.
This blog in no way represents the entire PS Gamer population… FACT is millions will buy this game May 21st.
So do what you want, cry all you want… in the end it will not matter.
The Vita is a dying platform.. no intelligent business will invest in a dying market.
    Deal with it.

  • No one asked you omega. You are part of the problem. Because you and your million buddies will run out and buy this game, that is why Capcom releases incomplete games only to release (maybe) a complete or more complete version. You are why there is Capcom DLC announced/taken out of games and sold to us at a later date. You represent a very small minority gamers, as in your are one of those clueless gamers. Keep throwing money at Capcom. You act like they like you. They will just take your money because you gladly hand it over as if to say keep up the bad work Capcom.

  • I have Every Resident Evil game available so far for PS3 Most are digital ( from pre-ordering Resident Evil 6 anthology) >also the only way you can get most of the games are digital< I have Resident Evil 1-5 Gold edition, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles, Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City, and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X, all digital basically the only Resident Evil disc I have is Resident Evil 6, I have 9 Resident Evil digital games and wanted to get Resident Evil Revalations on one day digital for 3 reasons
    1. I want to have an even 10 Resident Evil digital games
    2. I know I'll be able to get the game
    3. I won't have to wait at a parking lot for pre-ordering ( If possible ) if not I still wouldn't like to drive 20 miles to the closest gamestop.
    Two last questions
    1. When will this be available for one day digital?
    2. Do you plan on releasing any DLC?
(I had more to say but ran out of room)

  • So, Mr. Lunn, perhaps yourself and Capcom have been taking us for idiots supposing that we just don’t know any better or that we’re just sheep. We’re passionate gamers and we know when we’re being dusted under the rug. So, why can’t you man up and flat out tell us that the Vita just isn’t selling well enough and that Capcom just doesn’t care. Surround effect? Are you kidding me? That’s why this game is perfect for the 3DS is because it can do surround sound. The Japanese are smart and they’ve heard of Headphones to give a similar experience, no? Hold on, I’m not finished yet.

  • It really doesn’t take a lot more effort to port from the PS3 to the Vita. Especially with a game like this that really isn’t that demanding. You’re again, treating us like we’re inferior and we’re idiots. Suppose the Vita could have an app that gives it the second screen much like the 3DS has? Then you can have the big screen and the small screen experience simply by given them a Cross-Play App. It would display all the necessary stuff. The Vita can run the game fine, I think Capcom are just to lazy and fearful to speak the truth. Capcom used to be amazing and now they’re just Corporate has-been. They don’t even deserve to be on a Sony platform anymore. Nah, I left Capcom behind a long time ago and adopted something better. I believe everyone knows them best as Naughty Dog. You’re done for Capcom.

  • Omega: apparently we matter enough for you to reply to people’s comments.

You’re missing the point, if the Vita is failing it’s because it needs more SUPPORT. It’s the “chicken or the egg” syndrome. The Vita needs games for it to be successful and likewise developers need the Vita for it to be successful for them to decide to make games for it. Some of this is on Sony’s end and probably they should consider changing their business model, but that doesn’t excuse Capcom from TAKING THE RISK and port a franchise – one that is very popular on a Sony platform, and will help drive more Vita sales if marketed properly. T. They’re making it for the Wii FFS! and that has less of installed base than the Vita!!! They have no reason NOT to port it to the Vita. Capcom as usual is full of crap.

@NeoMahi. Well said. Couldn’t agree more.

  • Sorry I meant to say the Wii U.

  • lol nice 1 Crapcom!! no vita support with the sole reasons of trash & craps =)

  • theres a prof, a video that capcom say that is easy to port to vita, only took to 2 weeks to produce the demo. Watch it:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRcmRNGjU1s

    FEEEEEEEEATUUUUUUUUREEEEEEE!!!!!!!! lol

  • Could Capcom please release DLC for the 3DS version. I always wanted more characters to play as in Raid Mode . Lack of RE characters and weapons made Raid Mode get boring eventually and adding some characters and weapons for 3DS would be great. I would be willing to pay $10 for a DLC like this

  • I would also like a new Resident Evil game for PS Vita, or a remake of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D with more characters, loadouts, maps, etc.

  • I’m not gonna lie I’m dissapointed that this game is not coming to Vita as it is the PERFECT RE for handhelds. I’ve played through the game on my 3DS but I would play it again for better online support (PSN) and for the trophies, upres of the graphics and the already dual analog sticks. I think at the very least it should be released as a PSN game for Vita. I understand its likely Capcom are contractually obliged to do this but it seems sad considering Resident Evil Portable was ditched on the PSP and now they won’t even bring this (which is the best RE in years) to the Handheld. The reason I’ve made this comment is because I want to make it clear, as others have that this game is warranted a PSV version.
Anyways, the new graphics look nice and it will be great to bring this to people who don’t have handhelds, but personally I play Handhelds more than my consoles due to always travelling and so I’m not sure I’ll be getting this in amongst the other AAA titles due in Q1 and Q2 of this year.

  • ONE FINAL QUESTION I FORGOT TO ASK AND AM DYING TO KNOW
WILL YOU BE ABLE TO SWITCH FROM 1st PERSON TO 3rd PERSON LIKE THE 3DS VERSION??????????????????????????????

  • Capcom Capcom, how much I love you!!! sometimes I really try to hate you, but I can’t!! Thank you so much for this awesome news! I have this game on 3DS and also it will be mine on PS3!!

Please please make a collector’s edition with a figure of Jill & Parker (you can also include Raymond, Chris and Jessica)!!!

  • Capcom Capcom, how much I love you!!! sometimes I really try to hate you, but I can’t!! Thank you so much for this awesome news! I have this game on 3DS and also it will be mine on PS3!!

  • i being someone who has played all resident evil’s and grew up as a kid with the horrifying thrills of the exciting new expectations of new releases have seen and expierenced the best being coop features leaving me to play re5 for the several years untill operation raccoon city was finally released and the promise of bringing the horror back to re6 which was a tremendous dissapointment am glad to hear you are suppodaly bringing horror back i hope to see you are true to your word but i am understanding to keep up with the fast pace action people seek today the horror aspect of the series is sometimes lost but hope the best in the transfer of the game :)

  • capcom your dead to me

  • $50?! No way in hell I am buying it at that price. i will wait for it to be $30 at least.

  • Wow…..what a DISGUSTING weak set of BS excuses, Mike. To say I’m disappointed that this isn’t coming to the Vita, like others have equally mentioned, doesn’t even cover how even more pissed I am at seeing such half-assed, cop-out excuses. You must take some of us gamers for a bunch of damn fools…..

Oh, so it’s sooo ‘taxing’ to port from one handheld to another..,,yet you can blow double that by porting it for THREE DIFFERENT home consoles?? My god….did you *really* think that kind of response would flippin’ fly? Y’know, if you didn’t want to port b/c you didn’t think it’d sell on the Vita I think I’d speak for many when I say you just as well had been honest and admit as such. It’d certainly be better than getting slapped in the face w/ such ridiculously intelligence-insulting excuses.

    Lame, Capcom…..super, WTF-status type lame. <_<
