Since launch, PS Vita owners have gained access to lots of great applications on our new handheld, and we don’t have any plans to slow down. We’re rolling out a brand new app that brings many classic arcade games, along with a few new titles that were previously available only through PlayStation Home. We call it PlayStation Home Arcade.

PlayStation Home Arcade is available today and serves as a portal for some of your favorite arcade classics like Centipede, Asteroids, and Frogger. We’re also offering more recent titles, like Icebreaker and the very addicting Scribble Shooter, which was previously only available in PlayStation Home. The PlayStation Home Arcade app is a free download in the PlayStation Store, and you can purchase games from directly within the app, starting at $1.49 each. To celebrate the launch, we’re offering Ice Breaker, WipEout 2D and a demo of Scribble Shooter absolutely free!

If you’ve purchased any of the available titles as arcade cabinets within PlayStation Home, you can download these titles again on PS Vita at no additional cost.

The following titles are available today through PlayStation Home Arcade:

  • Icebreaker (Free)
  • WipEout 2D (Free)

  • Are you guys planning to bring the full playstation home experience to the vita?

  • I always wanted to get Scribble Shooter but didn’t go onto Home very much. This just negates the problem while adding portability.

  • I think it would be very kool if we are playing a ps4 game, earn a trophy and home ask you if you want to set it up on your personal space without having to quit the game, i hope there will be more pshome integration with the ps4.

  • WOW you are charging people actual money to play those games? Ouch.

  • Will try out Ice Breaker and WipEout 2D for sure, will prob get Asteroids for that price too.

Good prices all around for more or less mini’s.

  • All right, another free gaming app. Sony is showing lots of love for the Vita. Between this, Plus, and the free PS Mobile games my Vita is quickly hitting the 10 pages limit. Wipeout 2D was a decent game and I will download this gaming app just for the free Wipeout 2D. Thanks Sony and keep up the support for us Vita owners.

More apps on my Vita would be nice. I like that my Vita is the best gaming handheld ever made, but it could also be just as could as a tablet with some more non gaming apps. With so many tablets marketed around the same price range it would make since to show consumers that the Vita can be app friendly as well. Either way I love my Vita.

    Sold.

    Pole Position
    Rainbow Islands
    ExZisus
    Phoenix
    Return of the Invaders
    Frogger
    Asteroids
    Centipede
    Missile Command
    Pang
    Bombjack
    Arkanoid…
    …Endless Old-Skool List really;)

  • i want mortel kombat and dig dug

  • Very nice. If this could become a full blow arcade app with regular additions that would be awesome.

  • If you can license Robotron 2084, then I’m in.

  • Cool. I love free apps and a few free games is a nice incentive to possibly buy some more. Two questions, what is the size of the app, and does it contain trophies?
    Thanks again!

  • so happy to see this come to us. been waiting sinse i saw it n the eu store. 1.49 isnt too bad i guess.
would love to see home come to vita but idt we will see that. so how about creating another on line community for vita users, our own little vita land, lol.

  • Hi, Don. Thanks for the new App!

Sorry to be off topic, but this seems like a good opportunity to ask you if Sony is aware of the issues with Wake-Up Club since that was your post. Is there any plan to fix it with a patch? In case you didn’t know, when booting from standby, Wake-Up Club always gives you first place no matter how long it takes you to get up, and everyone it pairs you with is already awake, so I’ve never once cheered on another human being, just the placeholder bots.

Wake-Up club seems to work seamlessly when it isn’t launching from standby, but obviously the system will be in standby for anyone using it as an alarm clock so I’m hoping Sony is going to fix it. Ideally it wouldn’t bother asking “do you want to launch wake up club” and just skip straight to the alarm screen. And it would also be nice if the alarm volume was unrelated to the actual volume the system is set to at any given time so you don’t have to remember to turn your Vita volume all the way up at night. Thanks, Don.

    • Thanks for the feedback on Wake-Up Club. I’m on the app myself and I’ve come in 2nd place a few times. I’ve also been providing suggestions to the Wake-Up Club team and will discuss your points with them.

  • This is really cool! I will pick up Asteroids for sure. I would love to see Defender make it’s way to the Vita as well. Just last night I bought Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded for the Vita! It’s a PSP game you can by for $10 on the PSN. You have to buy it on your PS3 and then transfer it to your Vita. Cannot believe I have every Ghost N Goblins, Ghouls ‘N Ghosts game in existence on my Vita now!

  • old games? no thanks.

  • a PlayStationHOME access app for VITA will be really cool…

  • Time Pilot => totally sold

  • So, does playing in the PSVita app allow you to unlock PlayStation Home rewards on the go? If that’s the case, I’m all for it!
Definitely downloading it later today & hope to see more PSHome arcade games hit the app, like any of the ones found in Indie Park!

    • To unlock any associated rewards, you have to play from the arcade cabinets within Home. But while you’re there, bring a friend and earn them together!

  • Good thing you bought a $250 handheld so you can BUY Atari games….really?

The most appealing thing I have seen on Vita thus far was the “Wake-Up Club” for its uniqueness.

Sad to hear that it is not working properly for some…

  • Will more games be added to the app over time?

  • Ya know what would be really nice? Games developed for Vita that actually harness it’s capabilities and not games I played almost 30 years ago.

  • Will there be Home rewards available from the cabinets on Home & will there be trophy support on the Vita?

  • hi don there is one game that i would love to play on home arcade its called CRAZY CLIMBER .
you climb up the outside of buildings using two joysticks ,one for each arm and would be great on the vita .

    • I went berserk for Crazy Climber when it was in the arcades back in the day. Thanks for the suggestion — I’ll bring it up with our PS Home team.

  • Awesome to play these games on my Vita. I hope you don’t have to have your Vita on the Internet to allow you to play the games you bought like Everyone’s Arcade and other PS Mobile games do. It is a portable system, so I am not always on the Internet.

The interface looks less cumbersome than the PSP Capcom collection so I hope it is quick to get me in the game.

    • Once downloaded, you should be able to enjoy these games on the go, with or without internet. The interface is pretty smooth and polished, so once you download any additional games you’d like (or just play the freebies), you should be set for portable enjoyment.

  • Old arcade classics like these never get old for me as I’ve played most of them in arcades during the early 80s. So I am looking forward to giving this a go later today. Any plans on making titles such as Pacman, Ms. Pacman, Joust, etc. available in the future? I’d love to see a version of Crossbow that allowed touchscreen shooting.

  • This seems cool, will try it out. When is Hulu Plus coming to PS Vita? It was announced last year, but not available yet.

  • Thanks for replying about Wake-Up Club, Don. The only time I got second was when I was experimenting with setting an alarm without going to standby. Love the app but it’s just very strange that I’m always first place when launching from standby. I’ve experimented with waiting a long time to hit my avatar and I still get first. And at the same time have never once seen another “club member” still asleep so I can cheer them so I haven’t had any social interaction yet. Maybe it is pairing you only with other people who hit the “launch wake up club” button, so obviously they are awake, as opposed to going straight to the alarm screen where people can cheer eachother on if they are still asleep. Thanks for listening hope it all gets figured out!

  • WipEout 2D was wacky fun. Looking forward to playing it again.

And wasn’t there a version of echochrome too?

  • VITA IS SAVED!!!!!……

  • Hi, I just want to say that I am having no problems with Wake Up Club. I was dead last this morning, and I’ve placed first, last and in between. I’ve tapped on sleeping avatars many times.

Could be above commenters location. I live in a densely populated urban region.

  • I’m loving all the retro action going on as of late. It’s great to see new avenues to get in touch with the “classic” side of gaming. It’s also great to see more Vita support. Plus, I’ve wanted Scribble Shooter for ages, but I’ve never wanted to have to get onto PS Home everytime I play it. It’d also be amazing to see Sodium One’s Salt Shooter ported to Vita. That’s one of the greatest PS Home games. It would be REALLY cool to see most of PS Home’s mini games ported to an arcade app. Not enough people get to see these great mini games. It’d be nice not having to sit and have PS Home take 30 minutes to load, then have to download each individual space. Just load it up on your arcade app. I’d pay a small fee to have these mini games with me where ever I go.

  • i forgot to say “Yay, more Vita games and apps!”

  • ARKANOID AND TEMPEST!!!!!!!!!!

  • @lisatsunami Thanks very much for that reply. That’s very strange, I’ve heard a couple of people say they are having no problems, but I’ve also come across others that are having the exact same problems. I have a wifi only Vita and I’ve bought and installed the DLC too. I’ll try to delete the app and redownload perhaps. But for me personally there is no doubt that it isn’t working as intended.

  • LMFAO you guys actually get away with completely ripping us off and being extremely anti consumer and greedy and charge your consumers for ancient games that should be free and are free elsewhere? Please tell me no one is stupid enough to purchase this.

  • This looks pretty cool. I’ve often wondered why Home hasn’t had a presence of any kind on Vita yet. Not into it myself, but i’t s supposedly a fairly big money maker so some kind of Home compatibility for Vita seemed like a no-brainer.

  • Hey Sony guys. This is awesome and all, but it would be nice if you made this update live before all of NA is having dinner or asleep.

My Tuesday gamer euphoria always wears off when I get home from work and find you guys still haven’t updated. I live on West Coast too.

  • Hey, I use my PSVita during my commute time (2 hours a day), it would be awesome to have an Ebook Reader feature, that way I will only use the PSVita instead of switching devices.

Great to see some new content for PSVita almost weekly!

  • thats a very nice app…. >.> i hope it doesnt take a lot of space LOL

update the store early please :) i wanna buy my Final Fantasy games xD

  • yeah I also second an ebook reader … heck get Google Play on the thing end the Vita’s “misery”

  • This looks fun for the Vita, buying the arcade games at PS3 PS home then downloading them from the Vita at no cost sounds like a sweet deal.

  • I’m on the PS store and I tried searching “Playstation Arcade” and “Home Arcade,” Checked the Free to Play section and was looking through the Apps. I cannot find the playstation arcade. How do I download it? Also, I not only second the posts requesting dig-dug. But I would also, EMPHATICALLY, suggest JOUST!

  • Please expand the amount of pages we can have on the Vita, I’ve hit the limit several times now since I have a 32gb card.

  • I may have answered my own question. Is there a specific time every Tuesday the update takes place on the PS store?

  • ok i saw the arcade cabinets of frogger and stuff are those going to be coming out to the playstaton home soon or what. i really would love to get my hands on them…

  • @Squiggle55, now that you mention it, there is something hinky about WU club. Some of the avatars that I press to “wakey wakey” have odd names. Odd in that they are real names, like John or Suzy. I think the AI generates those if there aren’t enough people. But there are mostly real looking PSN ids also, although I’ve never friended any so can’t say for sure.

I also use a wi-fi only, white Liberation Vita for WU club. Maybe your signal isn’t strong enough and the AI is tricking you? I know a lot of people here say something is wrong with their YouTube app on PS3 and mine is just fine most of the time, but sometmes my wi fi signal is too weak and then I get endless buffering. Same for Music Unlimited, which is awesome 99% of the time.

  • Very nice! Thanks for the Vita love!

  • I have problems with my youtube app for vita. Every time I try to play a video from a channel it craps out.

  • These are actually fair prices to me. I may just buy some of these. Will have to see how it works on Vita first though.

    But you’ve got my interest.
