Star Wars Pinball Launches on PS3 and PS Vita This Month

Zen Studios has been making pinball games for nearly a decade now, and today is one of the most exciting pinball moments for our studio! We are extremely excited to announce that Star Wars is coming to Zen Pinball 2! Zen Studios has been working closely with LucasArts to create an amazing collection of videogame pinball tables set in a galaxy far, far away!

The first pack of tables include Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Beyond these exciting tables, there are seven others in production as we speak, all to be revealed as 2013 unfolds.

Each table features a different iconic moment from the Star Wars universe, with interactive 3D characters and unique gameplay. If you have not yet downloaded Zen Pinball 2, it is pretty easy to do. The free download will give you access to a great library of pinball content, where you can download demos for each table and pick which you’d like to buy. All content is cross-buy entitled on PS3 and PS Vita.

May the Force be with you!

  • Ok, I am a bit confused on my end…I downloaded Zen Pinball 2 for free…the download screen said I got thre full game, but when I play, I have a time limit like a demo, and no tables, like a demo, did I miss something, or do I need to buy all the packs in order to enjoy the free game? Like I said, I am just confused..

    • Although the download itself is free, all the content costs money. Think of the free download as the “platform” for the various pinball tables you can demo and buy. We structured the game this way to allow players to buy the tables and packs they wanted, rather than forcing them to buy ones that they weren’t as interested in before they could get the ones they wanted most. ZP1 required you to buy the game with 4 tables included before you could download any other tables, and we felt that players would rather have the freedom to pick and choose.

We have given PS Plus players the ZP1 and original Marvel Pinball tables for free in the past, too. If you aren’t a member and like free stuff, you really should check it out. One of the best deals going for console gamers.

  • As someone that has Zen Pinball Fx 2 for the 360 , PS3 , Vita and my Galaxy 3. I can say without a doubt , no other studios supports their games more than Zen Studios . Now , I am getting 10 more tables !!!! I could not be happier .

  • As a Star Wars geek I am beyond excited for Star Wars themed Zen Pinball tables. On one of Zen’s previous posts here many moons ago, this was one of my gaming wishes that you guys would get your hands on the Star Wars license. Now I’m keeping my fingers crossed for my other Star Wars/Gaming wish that TellTale gets THEIR wish and also gets the Star Wars license. A TellTale Star Wars game I imagine has the potential to trump KOTOR if it’s as good as The Walking Dead.

    I have 2 questions/requests for Zen Studios

Are you guys considering a “season pass” for all the Star Wars tables? Fans are going to want every single one of these tables regardless of what each table is based on, so it would be nice to be able to pre-order them all at a discount while being able to play them as they release.

Obviously you aren’t going to say what future tables will be just now, but I’d like to ask a general SW geek question about them. Are you guys sticking fully to Movie and TV content, or are you dipping into a bit of the EU content for some tables?

    • ESB and Clone Wars stick pretty closely to the source material, while Boba Fett draws more on the Expanded Universe. You’ll see more and more of the EU in the tables in future pack releases after we cover the big iconic stuff early on.

As far as pricing models go, we’re looking into various options but we don’t have anything to announce yet.

  • This is a really awesome announcement. But I really prefer to buy tables individually. I’m sure you probably already know that though and have good business reason to package them. I would have the avengers table by now if it was individual, and something tells me I’ll be saying the same thing about Empire Strikes Back when this releases. Maybe I’m an odd case but I think the odds of me buying all 3 tables would go up if I could buy them all 1 at a time as impulse buys.

  • This is PHENOMENAL news. As a huge fan of Zen (who has every table on the PS3, 3DS, 360, and soon for the Wii U) I’m super stoked for this. I feel as though us (as a pinball community) will be getting more players that are fans of the franchise. This is nothing but win here guys/gals. I’m READY!!!

Oh and not to be mean, but forget the haters who are whining about the new Star Wars game that supposedly got canceled. It’s not Zen’s fault. They weren’t making that game anyway. This is the pinball version. It has nothing to do with any game that will be released in the future. Just saying…..

  • I sure wish you’d bring Zen Pinball to Playstation Home ! konami just released a bunch of arcade games and related furtniture and clothing and i bought almost all of it . i’ve spoken with many people on Home and they all said they would but pinball machines to play in their apartments and clubhouses on Home . the money is here , COME GET IT !

    • Home is indeed a very cool system, and I wish we had time to get involved with it. But as a small independent studio, we have to focus all our efforts on providing a great experience within our games.

  • Shut up and take my money !!!

  • awesome news ! really excited to see the new tables – I own 14 of the currently available 24 – would love to see a sale / discount for volume buying …. I would happily take them all, but would like to save a bit on the bundle. your tables are fantastic ! just purchased a 3D 1080 HD tv & WOW – these tables on the big screen are stunning in 3D … really great work you guys do … I own your tables on the 3DS too . big fan, thanks for the good news . I’m guessing the 3 pack will be at the $10 mark …

    • We run sales and discounts from time to time, especially for PS Plus members. Keep an eye out and maybe we’ll offer one on the tables you are missing!

  • An individual table for Zen Pinball 2 costs $2.99, so a 3 table pack should be reasonably priced at $8.99, and certainly should cost no more than $9.99, or else Disney is just being greedy.

Glad to see a fairly steady stream of content for Zen Pinball 2, keep up the excellent work, guys!

  • @Pheylan

Yes, in order to play the tables beyond the time limit, and to collect trophies (if that’s what you’re into), you have to buy the tables from the store. Then you are free to play them to your heart’s content.

I did forget to mention above that I have Zen Pinball, Marvel pinball, Zen Pinball 2 (on PS3 and Vita), and I have all of the extra tables released thus far. I really do love these games, and Zen Studio, they are the best.

  • Pretty off topic, but I wish each Zen Pinball 2 table could have more trophies. I hear some of the same tables on Zen Pinball had more trophies, so I don’t know if there’s a limit being set by Sony or what but each table only has 2 or 3 trophies now. In most cases I think it would be cool to have a trophy for each event you complete, as well as trophies for reaching certain high scores on the table.

  • I’m glad to see you came back to reply to a few more of the comments. Thanks, and I’m pleased that you’re going into the EU, as I personally prefer the post ep.6 EU stories, and alot of the Old Republic stuff like The Sith War over even the movies for the most part. Aside from Darth Plagueis and Outbound Flight, I’m just so sick of Ep.1-6 time period. It’s all been covered folks….time to move on to another period. (Yay Episode 7 !!)

If you’re still fishing for any ideas for tables, I’d be suggesting

Han Solo and Chewbacca in: The Kessel Run. Free Chewie and the other Wookies from the Empire Slave Ship. Enter Jabba’s Palace and make a deal. Navigate The Kessel Run. Dump Jabba’s spice and escape The Empire.

Jedi Academy. Recruit [various young Jedi, Kyp Durran, Solo Children, etc]. Discover ancient Holocrons (Sith and Jedi). Kyp turns Dark, stop him from blowing up the Star and turn him back to the light. Enter the Sith Temple and defeat Exar Kun.

Were I a table designer for you guys, that would be the first two tables I came up with. You can have those for $200 a piece for me as a freelance designer. I will accept payment in PSN funds. Thank you. LOL

  • @Zsolt – you say Boba Fett pulls from EU. I like the EU for the most part. There’s a lot of it I like and a lot I don’t like but I really hope you don’t pull too deep from it so that people don’t know what something is. Like New Jedi Order for instance. I personally hate that line of books primarily because the Yuuzhan Vong are terrible villains and don’t fit in the Star Wars universe at all. I sincerely hope you don’t make any tables using them as I will skip those packs entirely no matter what other table is packed with them. Thanks. ^_^

  • @fearmonkey. I can’t say I blame you if NJO put you off the the EU books. It was SOOO dragged out. WHat was it?, like 22 books?, 10 Authors? That was rediculous. But that series did have some good highlights and big events and a few really great books. I wish that series were condensed into just the good stuff in a tight 6 or 7 books. Maybe even a comic series.

But if that series put you off to EU books and havn’t read much since, I highly suggest looking at the Legacy of The Force novels. It’s the best Star Wars story ever. 9 books, 3 authors working together in a cycle. Amazing story, and if you’re into Boba Fett and the Madolorians, in Karren Travis’ 3 books she gets so deep into Mandolorian culture it takes that whole mythos to a new level. It’s so good I wished that series was going to be the basis for Eps7-9 and the original actors would be the perfect ages to reprise their roles (they’re 60-75 in the books).

But from the info “leak” of the Star Wars crew making sets in the same Pyramids they used for Yavin 4 rebel base, I think the new movies are going to be Jedi Academy, which means recasting for Luke and co.

  • Hello there, i have all your tables on my ipad and most of them on my xbox 360.

I have 8 tables on Ps3 and i wantto buy them all! But since i am a ps+member i really hope there will besome discount on these tables soon…

And ofcourse, i will support you and buy all the starwarstables day1 on both ps3 and ipad.

So, maybe you can make us +members real happy with some discounts soon ; )

  • Cant wait for this to release day one purchase. I am sure it will be great and give us tons of days of game play.

  • tables are too pricey in this game.

  • Hello,

Since I only have a 60Gb PS3, I want to free up some space. How do I delete demo tables that I have not purchased?

For example, I have the aforementioned Star Wars demo pack installed. However, since I don’t feel like spending $9.99 for it, I want it gone off my HDD.

    Thanks,
