Ratchet & Clank Update: Full Frontal Assault and Deadlocked

Greg Phillips's Avatar Posted by Senior Producer, SIE

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault for PS3

As many of you know, when Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault launched for the PS3 system this past November, we announced that the PS Vita version would be coming out later in January 2013 to ensure the best portable Ratchet & Clank experience possible.

Our friends at Tin Giant have been working night and day to bring Insomniac’s PS3 game to the PS Vita system and to provide our fans with a great game. While the original delay has helped us make the game better, we still need more time to bring the game up to the standards expected by our fans.

In order to do this, the launch date for Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault for PS Vita has moved to Spring 2013. We realize that this delay may be disappointing for our fans, but please know that we are doing our best to get the game into your hands as soon as possible.

For those of you who have purchased the PS3 version of the game and are waiting for your PS Vita entitlement, we want to make it up to you as best we can. On the release date for Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault for PS Vita, we will be offering Ratchet & Clank: Deadlocked for the PS3 system as a free download to all of our fans who purchased Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault for the PS3 system (digitally or on disc). The giveaway will become available when Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault for PS Vita releases.

We greatly appreciate your patience as we work to bring you the best Ratchet & Clank experience possible for the PS Vita system. We will update you with a specific release date as soon as it is available.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the update. Just out of curiosity, is there a deadline for when you have to buy FFA on the PS3 to take advantage of the free Deadlocked?

Nope, there is no deadline. If at any point you purchase FFA for PS3 in NA, you will get both FFA for the Vita and Deadlocked when they are released.

Thanks, I was wondering what had happened.

Is there a release date for Deadlocked yet, or will it be released on the same day FFA for Vita comes out?

Little disappointed about the Vita delay til spring. Hopefully mid march, before spring break lol. But super hyped I get Ratchet Deadlocked HD for free. That makes the wait worth it for the Vita version which is why I preordered FFA in the first place. Thanks for the update!

Sad that it got pushed back again but I love the way you guys are handling this. Now I can look forward to both the Vita version of FFA and Deadlocked. :D Thanks, guys!

Do appreciate the update; I’m sure dealing with rampaging fans can be trepidatious. While I’m disappointed to have a wait, I should be glad for the time to try to platinum Sly Cooper before jumping back to R&C

Just get it right, and keep us fans posted as much as possible :)

Spring 2013?????

Next time you decide to release a cross-buy game wait until both are finished before releasing either.

I love R&C but after this mess and finding out it will take months longer, the odds of me buying another R&C game are dropping rapidly.

Love the series but this is unnacceptable, either finish and release both games at the same time or release nothing or don’t do Cross Buy to begin with.

I’ve never played Deadlocked (only one I haven’t) so I don’t know if getting that for free is a good thing or not, at least you’re doing something to make up for this.

But really, no more releasing cross buy games until both are ready, and stop farming out your games, just develop it yourself so we can be assured of the quality and release date, or don’t do it at all.

If I buy Full Frontal Assault right now, will I get Deadlocked too?? Please answer because that would be a good deal.

Yup, if you buy FFA now, you will get Deadlocked along with the Vita version of FFA once it is available.

Deadlocked in HD for Free!, I accept your apology.

Wow, Deadlocked in HD for free? Deadlocked is the only one I never played, so all I can say is thank you! No apology necessary. Keep up the great work guys!

I’d also like the clarification on new purchases. I was waiting for the Vita version to come out to buy Full Frontal Assault. If the free Deadlocked applies to purchases now, I’ll immediately buy FFA instead of waiting.

Oh before someone decides to attack me since that seems to be what many posters do these days instead of posting about the content.

Yes I’m complaining and maybe to some I’m whining but being OCD and buying a cross-buy game… for a while now I’ve had half the game(s) I paid for… having anything incomplete screws up my brain/can’t relax/etc… but it’s far worse when it’s something completely out of my control.

I can’t even look at the PS3 game case anymore I had to put it in storage until the Vita version is out.

So once more, to you or any other DEV out there, only do Cross-buy when the games come out at the same time.

Well, “spring” isn’t really a date, you know?

Still, free Deadlocked is a decent consolation prize.

… Ratchet and Clank Deadlocked HD? …FREE??

Excuse me while I go and immediately go buy Ratchet and Clank Full Frontal Assault *runs to nearest video game store and buys it immediately*

Thank you so much Insomniac for everything you do!

Spring 2013 is a little ambiguous… So sometime in the next 3 months… So for those of us waiting for the drop a week ago, it wasn’t even close to happening… So our 2 month wait is now a 2 to 5 month wait…

Well it is what it is… Please in the future communicate a dropped ball in a timely manner so we can avoid getting our hopes up, getting upset and pre-spending a 20 dollar bill that might have been in a more worthwhile way…

Deadlocked is a good play although Ratchet isn’t a playable character for those that don’t know… A little more on the shooter side and a little less on the platformer side…

Actually, Ratchet is the main character in Deadlocked… the main difference is Clank is not on Ratchet’s back and Ratchet is in a suit of armor for most of the game.

Next time just keep us in the loop with some sort of announcement. It happened with FFA and Sly, geez.

BossmanCCrowder1 said:

Well I am a little disappointed FFA won’t be coming to Vita for a few more months, but a free download of Deadlocked is awesome. I was planning on buying that anyways.

yunus_danis said:

Since the vita version of Full Frontal Assault and Deadlocked ps3 are coming out at the same time, would be very nice to see deadlocked also released on the vita… you know, a guy can dream

jgrizzle358 said:

February 7th, 10:46 am

while I appreciate the free game as an apology I can honestly say, I already platinumed R&C:FFA on the PS3 and haven’t touched it since, and I cannot see a reason to download the Vita version at this point unless it has a separate trophy list, but according to my trophy list, it doesn’t… it’s shared, so I just really don’t know if it’ll be worth it.

This sounds great from a PS3 perspective, but really WTF, this is even worse from the PS Vita perspective. Like when the Jan delay was announced I complained saying that Vita players get screwed and now again they get screwed. Why are the Benefits PS3 benefits when the Vita owners are the ones suffering? How is that a fair conclusion!? Can this please be explained to me cause it doesn’t make sense. What if someone only owns PS Vita, yes they can go on the SEN Store online and buy it now, but they still just get to play only that game on release while the PS3 owners had no issues or anything and and they are just getting more. Think like this I’m buying a Vita game and because the PS3 version isn’t releasing same time I’ll give ppl who buy the PS Vita game free DLC lol, then on top of that we’ll give them a next PS Vita game for a longer delay to PS3. People need to realize PS3 and PSV are seperate systems and you can’t use one to justify disappointment to another.

YungShep said:

February 7th, 10:49 am

dope sauce…but whats the catch? did we have to buy FFA at a specific time frame to get Deadlocked free?

jgrizzle358 said:

February 7th, 10:50 am

@Teflon02 most people who own a PS Vita also own a PS3 and have done so long before the Vita even came out. I really does not make sense to own a Vita if you don’t own a PS3, they go hand in hand.

NinjaMicWZ said:

February 7th, 10:53 am

Please release the Vita version on physical media at retail, so I can order it from amazon. I have a 32GB card and still dont have enough room, plus I’m close to my 100 app limit and just like collecting good Vita games in physical form.

Teflon02 said:

February 7th, 10:54 am

Thank You!! You just proved my point, you can’t do that and expect anything good from it, PS Vita got screwed and the game should be scrapped and make a new ratchet for Vita cause it’s not even worth it anymore, online community is basically dead ALREADY!! And People wanted the Vita version are waiting approx half a year? Why bother, especially if PS Vita people waiting really get no PS Vita benefits. These sound great but it’s still not PSV benefits they are not legit apology gifts. I wanted this game so bad on release but only for my Vita now I just lost so much interest in this joke. I love Ratchet but this is complete non-sense, and again great for PS3 owners especially the ones who don’t own vita cause it has nothing to do with em and they get benefits. But screwed Vita owners. If I’m wrong I wanna here a excuse that benefits PSV not PS3

Danderluff said:

This is a great consolation prize for our hopes, thanks playstation :)

Teflon02 said:

February 7th, 11:00 am

Also the fact is just because you own a PS Vita doesn’t mean you need a PS3 or have one, most have it but not all so that’s no excuse. PS3 Benefits for unfortunate situations for PS Vita isn’t right no matter how you look at it, you don’t give Wii U benefits cause a delay for 3DS you don’t give a Mac a benefit for a iphone delay you don’t give Windows benefits for windows phone delays, that doesn’t make sense even if someone owns both.

Finally, Sony shows face. Thanks for, even if it took you a while, showing us, your consumers, that you care about us.

Sad to see a further delay, but glad to see that you are doing the right thing.

Could you at the very least give us an idea of the size it will be? My 32GB is getting pretty full…

Awesome news. Quick question though… I ended up winning a PS3 copy of FFA from a giveaway Insomniac did on twitter back in December. Would I get the Vita version and/or Deadlocked? I asked Insomniac earlier, but they weren’t sure themselves.

Lord_CBH said:

While I am disappointed it got pushed back, I understand why it did. Just make it the best it can. Also, major thanks for the free Deadlocked, it’s a great game and the HD remaster should be TONS OF FUN!!!

So, if I get it right it means: Buy R&C:FFA (PS3), Get R&C:FFA (Vita) for free. Wait for R&C:FFA (Vita) and get R&C: Deadlocked for free!!! I think it’s a great deal! I don’t mind waiting then! Thanks

What I don’t understand is that the Vita version is a port… Right? I don’t know Tin Giant from the tin man… But has anyone heard of it taking this long to accomplish a port of a game?

Elvick_ said:

February 7th, 11:36 am

I mean, I’m happy that we’re getting something. But I would have been fine with nothing and supporting Deadlocked HD when it released.

Oh well, saves me money. I guess I’ll use that money I would have spent on Deadlocked HD on DLC for Full Frontal Assault instead.

Elvick_ said:

February 7th, 11:39 am

Oh and I’m glad that you guys are focused on making the game good on Vita. I’d rather have a quality port, than a port right away.

saskamazon said:

February 7th, 11:41 am

thanks for finally mentioning the situation; but as others have said, pretty ambiguous time frame … I purchased my copy Day 1 – nice to get the free game – appreciate some recognition of the difficulties …. anyway, hope they are able to eventually release the game – possibly they weren’t up for the challenge. might want to reflect on using them in the future ….

CaptainRadical said:

February 7th, 11:47 am

Like other I’m curious if there is a deadline for this? I’ve been sitting on a 20$ PSN card waiting for the Vita version. I’ll gladly cash that in as soon as I get home if I can still take advantage of this.

bakerarmy said:

February 7th, 11:53 am

I am disappointed. I purchased the Disc for the Vita version. The box had nothing on it indicating a delay in the vita’s release.

I was given a sorry, “stickers should have been placed” on this blog before.

No point in waiting anymore, I will just play the PS3 version. So those empty servers will get at least one more for a day or two.

RoyalXIII said:

February 7th, 11:59 am

Well, if you’re giving us Deadlock for free, I can’t be mad a you. Especially since I need to use whatever money I get to get the new games coming out this March.

dorkgeniuz21 said:

QUESTION!!!! PLease please answer….

1.Why dont you guys just enable remote-play & cross-controller patches for all the R&C games or at the least R&C hd collections or FFA….All we want to do is play Ratchet & clank on or through our vitas in some way…These patches could be added very quick and people would be more happy while they are waiting for the game..

2.Why is Europe getting a cheap game that has absolutely nothing to do with the Ratchet & Clank series? I do not think that is fair for them, why not give them a huge discount on another Ratchet & Clank game etc….

yourmomscoochy said:

February 7th, 12:31 pm

It’s awsome that we get deadlocked for free. But, in reality you would think that they would give that to us now to hold us over. Not give it to us the same day they release the other one. since it is taking so long to get that, it should also be available for the vita too, otherwise why wait.

boboMELOSHE said:

I loved me some Deadlocked back in the day, I’m very happy with this. I originally wanted to play it on my Vita but its been fun on ps3.
