PlayStation Plus Update: Vanquish Joins Instant Game Collection

We’ve got a monster update to the Instant Game Collection today as not one, but two fantastic games are coming to PS Plus members for free! By now, you’ve got your hands on last week’s addition: Closure. Dungeon Defenders is still free in PlayStation Plus, and has a PS3 Community XP Event coming up this Thursday (register here for more info).

With tomorrow’s PlayStation Store Update, you’ll be able to download Vanquish and Mega Man Maverick Hunter X free if you’re a PS Plus member. We’ve got more including special content for Dust 514, and a launch week discount; so without further ado, let’s get to the goods.

Vanquish (PS3)

PSN Price: $19.99, Free for PS Plus members

Celebrate the release of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance by playing one of Platinum’s finest action titles: Vanquish. The same studio that’s bringing you Raiden this week, also delivered one of the finest sci-fi shooters in Vanquish. Check out its fast and fluid combat system, experience the visceral melee combat, and download this PS3 Full Game free as a PS Plus member.

Mega Man Maverick Hunter X (PSP and PS Vita Compatible)

PSN Price: $9.99, Free for PS Plus members

An enhanced remake of the classic Mega Man X, complete with 3D character models, remixed music, and all new unlockable features, this is classic Mega Man turned up to 11. When Sigma leads a group of Reploids in a revolt against mankind, it’s up to X and Zero to protect the world from ruin. You can download this title free as a PS Plus member and play it on your PS Vita, or PSP.

One feedback: I think you change Plus weekly update to a monlty update like our European brothers.

Vanquish is 3 YEARS OLD!!!!….. and why are people so quick to thank and praise Morgan for the updates they like but when others criticise the updates they’re quick to say ”leave him alone its not Morgan’s fault”???

Also, @morgan…. why do you always say that we no longer get FULL monthly updates for upcoming games because there are ”last minute changes possible” yet other sites post what games are coming well before the blog does. I asked a moderator of one of those sites and they said that the games are picked out a month or two before hand, so there are no last minute changes. The real reason cause Sony knows that future potential subscribers would wait or not even subscribe …EVER,if they knew the crap they were going to be getting.

I know its not your fault, but you’re a gamer too. So, if you didn’t work for Sony and had to wait around and pay for these ”free” games, would you honestly always be happy with crappy old titles??

im sure you’ll give the typical ”Sony employee” answer, cause if you were to tell any of us the truth, you’d probably lose your cushy job and actually have to pay for the PS+ service. And then you’d really understand our frustration!!!!

  Other sites do not post what Plus content is coming before this update. Not sure who your sources are my friend, but I’m the closest person to the Plus program that discusses this stuff with the community. And I’m afraid moderators at other sites are not a good source of truth for how content in Plus gets set up. I mean….cmon.
  
  Second, listing out monthly content would be a great way to show everyone what a great value Plus is. No one here is scared of the community thinking giving a monthly preview is bad because folks wouldn’t like the content.
  
  That said, we’re exploring ways right now to give a month outlook, however, it may or may not be something we can do.

Remember playing the Vanquish demo. It seemed chaotic. Will be nice to play it.

Nice. Looking forward to Vanquish. Enjoyed the demo a long long time ago, but never got around to picking it up.

Guys thats what you’ve all been complaining about week after week LOL that the EUR PS PLUS is better …

What this week has proven is that we can also get the kind of content UE gets.

Major improvement over the recent dumpster updates. However(brace for eu comment), Europe got vanquish AND arkham city in the same month, back in december. Everyone is now like “OH EM GEE A DECENT UPDATE!” but in reality US is a few months behind and even showing up late to the party, its only a fraction of what EU was putting out there a while ago. Dont get me wrong I’m totally jazzed that its not just another fighter or psn game….but really? This update is good COMPARATIVELY to recent updates.

Like I said, I’m much more satisfied with this update, but I still dont like Morgan. Yes, I do not like him as an individual. The reason my beef is with him is because of his obnoxious “I know that this update is crappy, but I’m going to act like I dont and pretend that I’m good at my job” attitude.

For me Weekly update is better because week by week you have the expectation of the announce of the new addition…sometimes its a disappoint, some times its a awesome game ( like this week ) but anyways its something new every week… with monthly update… you know all the additions in a single day.. and thats all… wait another 30 days to know whats comming !

Well, luckily for you, Neptunia mk2 and the Record of Agarest War series are the only JRPGs I know that are on the PSN (let alone by Compile Heart) right now. Even if RoAW2 becomes free on PSN, I’d still buy the Limited Edition anyway (and just use the download version if it actually becomes free).

Honestly, I don’t like WRPGs (and yes, I played a lot of them, including DA2) because I just couldn’t get into them.

Awesome update!

Hard to choose on the favorite for the week between the free Vanquish or the Urban Trials discount. I went with the UT discount because I was most likely going to buy it for Vita anyways, so the discount is a pure win. I will download Vanquish and play it eventually but I can’t keep up with all the free content plus what we bought retail.

As for the Jan update, again tough call between Darksiders and NGS for Vita. I went with NGS since lately my Vita has gotten more time than PS3 due to it’s portability.

Great update this week. I’ve never heard of Vanquish, but then I’ve never heard of several titles which were added to Plus, most of which turned out to be great games. Also, I’ve been wanting to pick up Mega Man Maverick Hunter X for a long time. Now there is no excuse not to! Thanks a lot!

@125 AMEN!!!!!!!!!! Just wait till the PS4 comes out and we get even crappier games. Or SONY will say ”PS+ is moving exclusively to PS4 and will no longer be on PS3, but your subscription is waiting so go buy a PS4.” It wouldn’t surprise me one bit given the way they already treat us.

Nice update – I’ve beaten Vanquish, but it’s a sweet game. Haven’t played Megaman, but it looks like a good reason to dust off the ol’ PSP.

To all the people that complain about the European Games compared to the USA Games for Plus. If you would just pay attention all the games we get are games Europe already has. So all them games like sleeping dogs if you just give it time we will have them here in the USA for our PlayStation Plus instant game collection.

Great update guys!! Vanquish is definitely a game that I’ve wanted to try out, and with Mega Man X and the Dust 514 Starter Pack being free as well, it just make this update all the better! :)
