The Drop: Week of March 4th 2013 New Releases

Tomb Raider introduces players to the origin of one of the most identifiable video games icons of all-time, Lara Croft. The game features a blend of survival, stealth, melee and ranged combat, and exploration gameplay as a young Lara Croft is forced to push herself past her know limits to survive and unravel the dark history of a forgotten island. In the process she will unlock the adventurer within her. Additional game features include: weapons both familiar and new, upgradable items, a variety of play environments, and human and animal enemies.

MLB 13 The Show allows you to experience the MLB like never before. Its jaw-dropping realism doesn’t just capture every detail and mechanic of the sport; it captures the raw emotion of Major League Baseball. The Show delivers it with such realism, it’s like it really happened. Available for the PS3 and PS Vita.

Enjoy this week The Drop.

Tomb Raider — Tomb Raider delivers an intense and gritty story of the origins of Lara Croft and her ascent from frightened young woman to hardened survivor, armed with only raw instincts and the physical ability to push beyond the limits of human endurance. Superb physics-based gameplay is paired with a heart-pounding narrative in Lara’s most personal, character-defining adventure to date.

MLB 13 The Show (Blu-ray/GameCard) — Swing for the fences with MLB 13 The Show, the 2013 installment of the number-one selling Major League Baseball video game franchise. The game includes new features such as a completely new beginner mode, and instructional enhancements that make The Show the best pick-up and play baseball experience available. In addition, the improved Play Now mode streamlines gameplay, for faster and simpler games.

As with last year, you can sync your Season, Franchise and Road to the Show saves between portable and console platforms to continue the action anywhere. MLB The Show also offers the opportunity to play with friends around the world at no extra cost on PlayStation Network.

Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk — Follows the story of Ayesha Altugle, a girl who has been living alone in a secluded workshop ever since her grandfather died and her younger sister went missing a few years ago. She supports herself by making and selling medicine. As the story begins, she finds out that her younger sister IS alive somewhere in the world. Now, she must devote herself to finding her younger sister. Her journey to keep her promise begins…

MLB 13 The Show (PS Vita) — Swing for the fences with MLB 13 The Show, the 2013 installment of the number-one selling Major League Baseball video game franchise. The PS Vita version of The Show features the same list of upgrades and new features as the PS3 version — exciting new developments such as a completely new beginner mode, and instructional enhancements that make The Show the best pick-up and play baseball experience available. In addition, the improved Play Now mode streamlines gameplay, for faster and simpler games.

Bit.Trip Presents Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien — Runner2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed and IGF award winning BIT.TRIP RUNNER. In the style of the BIT.TRIP series, Runner2 is a rhythm-music platforming game. Players will run through fantastic environments, using brand new moves, to brand new soundtracks as they run, jump, slide, kick, and soar toward the goal of tracking.

Fist of North Star 2 Ken’s Rage — Follow the storyline of the entire action manga epic in Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage 2. The destructive power of the techniques of Hokuto Shinken and Nanto Seiken meet the intense action of the Warriors series to produce a thrilling experience for fans of both series. In addition to the signature moves of the first title, new actions such as ‘sprint’ and ‘dodge’ have been added to the move sets.

Fuel Overdose — I-Friqiya started the development of Fuel Overdose with the ambition of offering a new kind of solo and multiplayer action racing experience, by bringing more variety to the combat gameplay as well as a tactical approach to the genre. They like to think of Fuel Overdose as a “Tactical-Action-Racing” game.

Germinator (Also on PS Vita) — Three of a kind won’t help you in Germinator, but you will need to crash your germ bubbles into those of the same color. Upon collision, they’ll combine and grow until they POP! Be sure to pop them quickly before they get too big and overrun the house. Timing and accuracy is the key to preventing the various germs from rising too high. Toss in PlayStation Move motion controller support and full 1080p visuals and you’ve got a messy good time!

Port Royale 3: Pirates & Merchants — In Port Royale 3, players will embark upon an epic adventure through the Caribbean during the turbulent 17th century where the naval powers of Spain, England, France and the Netherlands all fight for supremacy in the colonies. Players take on the role of a young captain trying to build his fortune and reputation in the new world colonies. The campaign consists of two different paths for the young protagonist to follow: adventurer and trader.

  • i loved every Tomb Raider games but this i might skip because of MP , i dont think MP is bad & i do play online alot but MP in my opinion is not for games like Tomb Raider…

  • When is the next big Playstation Plus update?

  • Been waiting a while to play some new Tomb Raider. Hopefully not to many MP trophies tied to it, or at least easy ones, I don’t do the large grind MP trophies, there’s no real skill involved with them plus it is just simply no fun. Might try out the runner game sometime, nothing else really interests me this week.

  • Can’t wait to get tomb raider from the store so me and my brother can both play it at the same time , and maybe pick up midnight club also to feel a little nostalgic.

  • Drop looking good this week, just wondering why naruto didn’t make it on as day 1 digital?

  • @all of the questions posted for Mr. Gutierrez

For some reason, Rey NEVER answers any questions even if they were meant to correct a mistake that he has done. The last post that he actually replied on was a drop post on November 25, 2012. This continues to be an ongoing probably with this person. I’m not sure exactly what a “Senior Social Media Specialist” does but at the very least he could address some questions in this post that he put up. I’m not trying to be a jerk of sorts but at the very least he could clear up some confusion instead of customers having to wait til Tuesday to figure if a game will be available for download or not. TL;DR Rey Gutierrez needs to answer a question everyone once in a while!

  • Last line should read every once in a while!

  • Dear Sony,

Please consider having game trailers on the PSN store for ALL of the games available as that would entice me to purchase more!

  • guys I just want to let you know today sony is secule for a maitens upgrade you wont be able to login to sony network as of 8:00am pst sorry for the incoventions

  • Would be nice to know if Tomb Raider will be on PSN.

  • Just a question but is there any chance to see final fantasy 4 released as a pax copy? It’s on the Japanese store and I know it’s up to square Enix but is there any chance to sony’s knowledge we will see it?

  • Psx not pax sorry

  • Seeing alot of hate for the online trophies and online being needlessly added to games. My 2 cents. Multiplayer on what was typically single player games is fine. Usually its a flop in the greater scheme of things, but it adds a different element to play. More replay/play time for your money. It is a good thing.

The trophies for online play, is not. Im no trophy whore, but what i think would help is to make ALL trophies related to online play in any way be treated as add-on content . So as to not affect the potential of the platinum. It would just be more fair, there is a good chance some people simply do not have online access or reliable access. Or if you buy a game years after its release the online is all but dead. Red faction guerrilla comes to mind, had alot of fun with it. But no way to play online.

As for this drop. Cool beans. Checking out tomb raider. But thats it. The classics are a huge step up from previous ones. So. Awesome.

  • @112: I hate online trophies. I don’t like competitive. I wish every MP trophy had an alternative way to unlock it. I don’t mind Uncharted’s way of doing it. Just try it out and be done with it. Then DLC adds the tedious stuff like a bajillion kills with grenades.

I like Perfect Dark Zero’s achievements, since they let you get them through local play with bots. That way, when the servers are down or the game is dead, you can just keep on trucking to get them all offline.

We should always be able to earn a trophy/achievement. Even if the company decides to shut down the servers.

So online trophies should have alternative, offline, ways off earning them. At worst, have them locked out until you shut down servers, then release a small patch to open up local earning.

  • @113 in reply. I like the idea you have there. And dont misread, i think we are on the same page really. I would LOVE if every game that had online had a bot mode variation. That would be perfect. I dont know much about programming and game creation so dont think im being critical here, i just wonder if adding that botmode would be hard to do to every game is all. Fingers crossed regardless.

Id rather just see online trophies removed. Online modes fine, even in games you wouldnt think would need it. But just remove the trophies. Also, think this is getting a bit off topic. But when i clicked my explorer open it was on thispage otherwise i would never have seen the reply honestly

  • Kk now put Tenchu Wrath of Heaven on the store!!!

  • @115: I’d rather have no online trophies too, but it’s a way to “keep it going” longer. So I get it… and it’s probably not going anywhere.

  • can’t wait for tomorrow’s weekly sale! ..have i been saying that every monday? lol
i’ve already spent $21, and i’m looking to spend the full $50 because $50 of content for $40 is a good deal. i’m also glad i’m able to buy new games on psn instead of used from gamestop for the same price.

been having fun with The Walking Dead, and i’m gonna need to play it multiple times to watch all the endings.

it’s probably not gonna happen, but i just wanted to say Bayonetta or Alice Madness Returns on sale would make my day! i’m anticipating bayonetta having a sale sometime, but i’m not so sure about alice. i can dream, can’t i?

  • I wish they would put some good PS2 classics on the Network, like Dark Cloud 1 or 2, Rogue Galaxy just to mention a few.

  • fallout 3 FOR PSN

  • I am picking up TR in the morning… This is a brand new take on a legacy gaming franchise… I for one am looking forward to a TR game based more on realism and strategic game play…

  • @MP_is_for_Chumps
Really? have you not looked at the reviews for this game? Go play COD if thats all you look for in games. You’re obviously not a hardcore gamer. This game is going to smash. Learn your games and quit hatin.

  • Will MLB The Show 13 be available at midnight for the Vita as well? Does anybody know?

  • I wish we could get some NFL and NBA avatars soon.

  • Kk now put Tenchu Wrath of Heaven on the store!!

  • heh is there any way we could get the first 2 Atelier Ayesha games on the psn store thanks.

  • Does anyone know when will TOMB RAIDER be available for download from PS Store?

  • please make a ps2 classic of celebrity deathmatch it would sell like hotcakes, plus idont see naruto on ur list i cant wait till gamestop opens to pick that s**t up

  • @129 There are no other Atelier Ayesha games.

If you’re talking about that Arland trilogy(Rorona/Totori/Meruru), you don’t have to worry cause Ayesha has nothing to do with them.

  • You forgot to mention that PATAPON 3 IS NOW ON THE VITA! WOOHOO!

  • @Josuey_de_PR_

They’re taking the essence of Lara and actually building the character around some sort of humanity – opposed to the paper thin “rich, massive honkers, short shorts-wearing stereotype”.

There’s something to be said for archetypes (character-wise) in the video game industry, but the fact is no one outside of Nintendo has been able to flesh out the same, “underdeveloped” characters like Mario and Luigi – they’re iconic, and span generations. Lara Croft can’t lay claim to the same status (nor can Dante). Heck, even a case for Master Chief could be made – he is as iconic to the Xbox generation as Mario is to the NES generation. Yet, even he is being developed into a full blown character with Halo 4 as 343 explores the depths of his relationship with Cortana.

You complain about these reboots, and I say bring them on. The gameplay is better than ever, and the characters are becoming deeper. This is the industry growing up and moving passed the big bosomed stereotypes.

  • cant wait to play Tomb Raider today

  • I am still waiting on some of your biggest hits (any crash bandicoots, spyros, or grand turismo) on the vita. When are you going to release this sony?????

  • @Anybody Is Tomb Raider gonna be available as a digital download on PSN. Didn’t see any mention of it on PSN but wanted to check.
