You’ll get a chance to dive into Edward’s adventure on PS3 on October 29th (and also on PS4, but we’ll announce the release date later), but right now we have something we are truly proud to show off. Watch the new CGI Trailer below and we’ll meet back up to make sure you caught all the glorious details.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Coming to PS4 + PS3, PlayStation-Exclusive Content

The first thing you’re likely to notice is the narrator of this trailer is none other than one of the most notorious pirates of all time: Edward “Blackbeard” Teach. But, surprisingly, Blackbeard is not the focus of this trailer, no sir (or madam) — that would be our newest Assassin, Captain Edward Kenway. You can already see that he’s a perfect fit for the life of plunder, adventure and debauchery led by some individuals during the Golden Age of Pirates which spanned a short but pivotal period in the early 1700s.

Edward Kenway is a captain, among a great many other things, and as such, will command a mighty ship. In the dangerous waters of the West Indies, he’ll need to be heavily strapped with multiple pistols and twin wicked cutlasses that positively sing in his hands. But it’s not all about raiding the rich, treasure-laden galleons that bumble about the Atlantic, Edward is always up for some… extracurricular activities. Did you see him dive into the ocean and swim underwater? That’s not in the trailer by accident. ;)

Assassin's Creed IV

You might think you know a lot about pirates, but like any true Assassin’s Creed game, be prepared for a great many surprises as we uncover the true Golden Age of Pirates!

  • I’m just waiting on the announcement of another Vita game to come out alongside the PS3/4 game. :)

  • @1 Ya waiting for the official announcement of a Vita game.

I’ll buy this. But certainly not for full price. Not after ACIII didnt live up to the hype. But u’ve def got a buy. Will probably buy Watch Dogs for full price instead. Getting both on PS4!

  • Please unveil the Vita game already. I think extra hype and marketing earlier on could do that title some good. I’ll leave you guys alone about what I want out of it until you announce it though

  • Hmmmm. I will be undecided on which version to get. I’m getting a PS4, but I would love to be able to share the PS3 copy with my sister who just got her first PS3.

    Can’t wait!

  • Can’t wait for this. I’m one of the people who actually loved AC3. I’ll definitely be getting the PS4 version.

  • I guess this means the PS4 release after October 29th. I suppose it could be before and they locked up an exclusive window for the PS4, but I doubt that.

  • I won’t be skipping this one like I did ACIII, but the question remains will I get this for the PS3 or wait until I finally get a PS4.

  • I’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on this one. I avoided AC3 since I wasn’t too thrilled with the idea of murdering scores of red coats. After all, loyalists were my ancestors :(

  • I’m not excited for anual releases. I wish you would take the time that it’s required to make great long games

  • i just hope the difference between ps3 and ps4 is literally night and day…i’ve been told this story before on previous consoles, and failed to deliver….im not big on annual releases either unless it’s a sports title.

i own AC II and III haven’t beat either…

  • So ready for this game, pirates & pirate history are my obsession. I loved III and I anticipate this game will exceed that one quite a bit, in terms of both gameplay and story. I can’t wait to see what other famous pirates you decide to include in it as well, it’s a shame we won’t see William Kidd since he would have died by the time this game takes place, but even so there are plenty of other pirates I will be hoping for.

  • Cautiously optimistic on this next Assassin’s Creed entry. I found AC2 and AC Brotherhood to be the best of the series in my honest opinion SOooo…after playing AC3, i’ll have to wait and see.

Let me build/have control of my pirate’s secret skull island hideout and recruit my crew then will talk as to where i can wire transfer my money. LOL

I’ll leaning towards the PS3 version. Collector’s edition please… A treasure chest or ship on a bottle would be cool! My .02

  • I still haven’t finished the first one.

  • Please do a Ghost Recon for Vita. And not some SRPG like on 3DS.

And if you’re going to do another AC for Vita, please don’t release it the same day as this. It’s hardly a smart choice to put it up against something that will surely sell 10+ million. Let the Vita game have it’s own time to shine. And if you’re not doing one, then get to it. I want to see an improved AC experience on my Vita.

  • So how is Edward Kenway related to Haytham Kenway?

  • So how is Edward Kenway related to Haytham Kenway?

  • Can’t wait for this one Ubisoft you guys rock and are my favorite game developer’s keep the creed coming.

  • After 3 I’m skipping the Assassin’s Creed series. Most disappointing game of 2012 in my opinion.

  • I’m not impressed or excited at all for this. They should have made a pirate game without the AC series tagged onto it.

Disappointed Ubisoft with your milking of the series. The games aren’t even that great.

  • What? What the heck? Where is the Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag tie-in for the PS Vita? Hurry it up already! Announce it! Please! Assassin’s Creed III Liberation has my psyched for more AC on the PS Vita! Just this time include actual online multiplayer game play!

  • I really liked seeing Captain Kenway swim underwater. I hope that he’ll be able to fight underwater as well as search for treasure. Please make the underwater levels super-fun to play, Ubisoft!!!

  • Assassin’s Creed III bored me to death when I got half way through the game. I finally realized, this is the same game I’ve been playing since ACII, running along buildings, assassinating, etc and I understand that this is the basic premise for the game, I just wish more new features were added. The one thing I did enjoy in ACIII was the ship battles out on the ocean. I agree with a lot of the comments, I was so excited for ACIII because the last game I played was Brotherhood (So it’s been awhile since I played one) which also got boring towards the end. I skipped Revelations, three games as Ezio? No bueno. I was sadly disappointed by ACIII as well.

Since Black Flag allows me to play as a Pirate, I’ll be probably get this for the PS4. I should’ve just skipped ACIII and waited for this, we all should’ve seen another AC game coming this soon. Please Ubisoft, put this series on the side after this one, or at the very least. Innovate a bit more on the next titles.

  • Most likely it’s Haytham’s father. This is in the early 1700s, Haytham then in his 50s or so around 1776 …

  • That cgi trailer was very well done. I would like to know who did it. Was it Blur Studios?

  • These come out waaay to fast, I honestly loved AC3 but there’s barely any down time between installments. Im still missing Revelations and Liberation. As much as I’d like to get this I might have to pass, or atleast pick it up after AC6 comes out lol.

  • Not sure if I want to get it immediately… or wait for PS4…

  • Wonder if they learned their lesson from ACIII.
IF not wonder if PS4 will have less bugs., but really if one version has bugs I’m sure all the others will. Maybe thats why they never really fixed ACIII (well maybe now they did) Cause they were focus on ACIV BF
Didn’t like how it ended but some of the game play in ACIII was fun. This should be good. Rather it be about him and not a animus thing.

  • i really hope there’s a vita version or something i loved liberation.

  • I really want to be optimistic about this. The trailer looks fantastic and Edward Kenway looks far more charismatic in just the trailer than Connor was through a whole game. AC3 did not live up to the high standards set by the Ezio Trilogy, and so I’m very hesitant to pre-order again. I’ll be waiting to see the reviews this time…

That said, it looks great so far. I hope that it plays as great as it looks.

  • exclusive stuff! YAY! keep it up ubi :)

  • @sinta0531 Edward Kenway is the father of Haytham Kenway.

  • price for the PS4 disc?

by the time I get my PS4, I hope the game has already decreased its price!

  • I hope there’s a vita version of this game, please give us a vita version T.T

  • Meh. i’ll skip this one , and save up for acIII , it looks exceptionally it looks un-unique (especially if you seen a lot of Pirates films) i thought they were gonna start somewhere actually unique like Paris or Egypt . Trailer looks boring , lost my respect at 1:16 , looks like something for closeted Jerry Bruckheimer fans , graphically its beautiful but thats not enough , story wise is what matters, and weren’t there already Pirates in the previous games ? looks like a an easy Ubsoft cash in for ps4 release and the slow people who are willing to buy it , unless they put something cool in it like customizable protagonist , i’ll get it used , till then the trailer gives false hope .

  • Assassins creed pirates!

My favorite part of AC3 was the naval battles and now it will be fully fleshed out in AC4.

I just hope they add some WAY more interesting MP. Something similar to Hitman contracts or some coop modes where you compete to hit certain score brackets. Wolfpack gets old after a while.

Or just make it so you can actually engage other players (like god of war). Be awesome to engage in combat with other players instead of just one shotting everyone.

  • ThreeLeggedFreak

What about another vita game without all the bugs in Liberation and with a proper story, VA, multiplayer, and letting us use the animus in present day? I don’t even know who Aveline is in present day.

  • Can’t wait to play it!

  • 1 PS4 copy please.

  • Very much looking forward to this. Loved the naval missions in AC3, so an AC game where you play as a Pirate Assassin sounds awesome to me! But, I will probably wait to pick it up for PS4 :-)

As a fan who has finished all of the Assassin Creed games (minus the handheld spin-offs) I am honestly looking forward to who will be controlling this Assassin through the animus, and if the rumors of it being an abstergo employee “making a game” are true. I hope the present day story continues the threat that was unleashed upon the world, where AC3 left off.

Keep up the great work, guys. I love this series.

  • apparently the only haters of the series (according to the stupid comments on this page) did not play any of the games to their ends… if u guys gave it a chance and payed attention to the actual story and put some of ur apparently-not-there historical knowledge into the mix (unlike the countless players who just play it for the joy of killing ppl like in COD and Halo) you would realize that although some of the games had bugs, the story is what makes these games really worth it!

  • Also I’ll wait for the Black Beard edition, the one that will come with every single DLC.

  • I would love to be able to afford a PS4 and get this. However, I also wish the graphics like in the trailer and the in game clips were the same in actual in game play. They are amazing, and have come a long way from PS1 graphics but they are a tease when you see the beautiful trailers and the game looks nothing like it.

  • smoothboarder540

I don’t really like the direction this series is going. I did not enjoy the ship battling in ACIII. Obviously there is going to be more of that. I also didn’t like constant running from place to place and the counterintuitive fast travel/menu system.

  • I want that Jolly Roger with the assassin symbol, please make that part of the collectors edition Ubisoft!

  • I’ll take a PS4 copy, thank you.

  • Well i played all the other games and i’m a huge One Piece fan so… I like.

  • I have to admit that I was hoping that the next game would continue Connor’s story from ACIII like Brotherhood continues Ezio’s story from ACII, but the pirate theme does sound great. I hope they have some more of those naval missions, too. At first I didn’t really care for the naval missions, but it grew on me after a while. At any rate, if IV is as good as III, I’m sure I won’t be disappointed.

  • Wonder what kind of bundles (if any) will be available for PS4. Wonder if I’ll even be able to get one for that matter.

  • After the horrendous Assassin’s Creed III I’m done with this franchise. You guys are now making it a CoD type franchise that releases a title every year. But I’m happy for the people who are excited for this game, I definitely think there should be a PS4 bundle.

  • “So Ass. Creed II was yeah, but the naval stuff!”
“Well, okay, we can do that. How ’bout pirates?”
