Primal Carnage: Genesis Bringing Dinosaurs to PS4

At some point, everyone has wondered about what it was like to walk among the dinosaurs. We were wondering that for ourselves, so we’ve set out to develop Primal Carnage: Genesis. What better way is there to realize that dream than a new generation of PlayStation hardware to drive an incredible immersive experience?

From towering behemoths like the brachiosaurus and the tyrannosaurus rex to smaller creatures like the velociraptor and the dilophosaurus, there is no doubt that there is something magical about the creatures of the prehistoric world. In order to capture that magic in real time, we used Unreal Engine 4 as our software platform of choice. As the gameplay itself will feature a mix of linear gameplay and open-world exploration from a first-person human perspective, next-generation rendering is key to selling the lush island environment and suspending the disbelief that these dinosaurs aren’t actually, well, real.

In the early stages of development, it became clear that we wanted Primal Carnage: Genesis to champion an immersive story driven experience. How do we tell that story? We looked into several different storytelling methods and happened upon the episodic approach. It was a difficult decision for us, given the relative newness of episodic storytelling.

Ultimately, the episodic method ended up being the clear victor due to the versatile nature of creating a story episode by episode. It allows us a lot of wiggle room, because one unique advantage of the episodic model is the ability for player feedback from the first episode to affect the development of the following episodes. Do players want to see more of a certain mechanic? Maybe people didn’t like playing a certain segment of the game, thus steering our focus elsewhere.

We hope you enjoyed getting a sneak peak of Primal Carnage: Genesis. We’d love to hear what you think, so drop us a comment below! Keep an eye out on the Playstation blog for more updates from us. We will have a lot more to talk about in the future as development continues.

Dinosaurs are back.

  • to play as a dinosaur that was cloned in a lab and cause nothing but havoc and destruction in my path to freedom??

HELL YES!!! this is exactly the kind of game this generation was missing! move over, first person shooters, because this gen has a fever, and the only prescription is DINOSAURS!

  • im staying with my ps3. these ps4 games seem to be for the next generation. im still old school. so im not interested in what these next generation kids like. maybe a remake of the arcade primal rage and ill be interested. this still looks like ps3 graphics. so not impressed by any of it.

  • This looks awesome! Looking forward to it!!

  • Will the storyline be branching based on action/inaction the player takes?

Will the game have 24-bit/HD audio assets?

    Any GLBT characters?

  • Still waiting for confirmation on a dinosaur campaign.
At the moment I’m betting it’s just going to be grizzled brown-haired male protagonist eleventy billion.

Check out the original Primal Carnage on PC if you want a fun multiiplayer experience where you can eat people as T.Rex or rip em to shreds as a Raptor. It’s a great game and available pretty cheap now.

  • I wonder how it’s going to play? you’re playing as a dinosaurs so, first person? 3rd person?

  • When I first saw this,I thought it was Primal Rage lol still looking forward to it.

  • shut up and take my money!

  • I don’t mean to be the fun police, but it seems like there is an excessive use of smoke in this demonstration. First of all, there shouldn’t be any random smoke/dust in a laboratory environment. Secondly, I kind of wish they would’ve paid more attention to what’s actually on the computers, instead of putting the same rotating dinosaur diagram on each one. I would’ve reallly been impressed if they made it look like a believable laboratory where all the researchers have something different on screen. It’s the little details that make the new engines impressive.

  • It’s hard to tell from the video what to expect – is it really better than what can be done on the PS3? There’s no question that the PS4 is more powerful – but this video doesn’t do it justice. I would also add that dinosaurs are related to birds – they would not make ROOOAAAARRRING sounds. It would be more CAW CAW – you know – bird like sounds rather than lion sounds. They probably also had feathers. Let’s update the science!

  • Ok….So does anyone here not remember Primal Rage the fighting game on SNES????
This already looks amazing, now just focus on the fighting, combos and fatalities an your golden.
I’m not sure how a story line can even tie into a Dinosaur fighting game, but honestly Dinosaurs are a seller on their own. I’m in when this game comes out. Super excited for this, hopefully its just a remade masterpiece bringing back a little old school memory.
    PLAYSTATION 4 = INCREDIBLE

Birds are dinosaurs that evolved from reptiles.Theres no evidence that they tweet like birds lol. I mean if you see birds they have beak’s thats why they tweet (correct me if im wrong). But look at a dino’s they have mouths like lizards

Too bad that game got overshadowed by mk and sf :( .It’s a fps look in the PC version of the game

  • timmy19888

I don’t really think ps3 should be call “old school” yet like the super nintedo or saga genesis. It will untill kids in the future would look at it and say “What is that thing ?” lol

  • that game is going to be awesome ^_^

  • Oh capcom, you should do a dino crisis remake exclusively for PS3 and PS4.

  • Wuuuuut. This game looks so sick!

  • Thats pretty bad ass! Can’t wait to get my hands on that… now if only Battlefield 4 could introduce SURVIVAL/HUNTER mode with DINOSAURS that would be GREAT!

  • Is this game a 1st person or 3rd person?

  • This game is $15.00 right now on PC . So it should be a lot LESS by the time the PS4 is released right ???

  • AHH Here it starts what a way to kick it off.

  • I like the look of this. It mentioned ‘open world’ which sounds really good. There aren’t many dinosaur games, and this looks like it will be epic, and I’m a fan of dinosaurs!

  • They need to make a new Turok like the N64 ones but this game is sweet cant wait to play this on ps4

  • So Stoked XD
