(Also on PSN) — The visionary open-world shooter MMOG Defiance serves as a companion to the tandem television show on Syfy. In an entertainment first, the game and show will influence and depend on each other, and even feature some players’ characters on the TV shows as extras.

Set on a future Earth, Defiance introduces players and viewers to a world where humans and aliens live together on a planet transformed by decades of conflict. The game combines the intense action of a ‘AAA’ console shooter, with the persistence, scale, and customization of an MMO, while its TV counterpart weaves the rich tapestry of the world into a series with the scope, characters, and drama of a classic sci-fi epic. Because they exist in a single universe, the show and the game will influence each other and evolve together over time, with actions in both mediums driving the overall story of Defiance.

Ion Assault HD — In 2183 humanity discovers an energy source that facilitates travel into new regions of space. Gigantic mother ships collect the newly discovered fuel from the distant energy fields and transport it to Earth. When the fleet is destroyed in an alien attack, the player sets out on a perilous journey home in a small harvester.

IonAssault_Hero

In Ion Assault, instead of conventional weapons, players use the free energy particles that are abundant in space to fend off swarms of aliens. The particles are bundled and the player is able to shoot them at asteroids and enemy ships. The particles are not destroyed in this process, but are redistributed in space, ready to be magnetically attracted again and re-used. Their random distribution makes for dynamic gameplay and calls for a more strategic approach.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories — Vice City features more expansive locations, and over 120 vehicles ripe for the picking such as exotic cars, motorcycles, luxury yachts and planes. The soundtrack boasts three times the tunes compared to the previous GTA, and features countless ’80s hits. Haze 3 is where they really sold out, I refuse to play any more of the series until they reboot it with a grimdark prequel filled with QTE’s.

  • I’d say they were trolling us, were it not a common, incessantly annoying occurrence around here. The lack of respect and overwhelming laziness is nothing short of disgusting.

I guess all the fine folks at the PlayStation Blog are still peeking around for their missing Easter eggs from yesterday. People with “special needs” tend to take a little longer than others at that sort of thing, don’t they? We should all be nice and exercise patience here– the team has proven time and time again that you don’t get much more “special” than them.

  • Are the same people who are responsible for updating the Playstation Store on Tuesdays the ones who also update the Playstation Blog?

  • @153 I don’t think so, but I could be wrong.

  • I want to know more about PSVita titles. Like when is Phantasy Star Online is coming out for America. Japan got it and Americas got delayed with no set date. Heck, I would settle to be able to play Phantasy Star Portable 2 again but on my vita. And I want to see a vita verson Monster Hunter!

  • Not at all, Cornagandarub. Just imagine if these guys were responsible for updating the actual PSN– it’d probably end up going live on Thursdays and Fridays every other week, half the promised content would be missing, there would be spelling errors everywhere, and most of the prices would be incorrectly labeled.

  • @154 It was rhetorical. I was implying both parties are disgustingly slow at their jobs.

  • Gamers need to find an outlet. All this hate can’t be good.

It’s a holiday weekend, assume it will be late and wait with anticipation, not angst.

  • …yes. Apparently, my accompanying commentary slipped over your head as well. I merely suggested that these folks are even worse than the PSN guys.

    Carry on.

  • They must be afraid to post on April Fool’s Day. They probably had a real hysterical post planned, like US Plus will now be getting the same games as EU Plus- April Fools!

  • It’d be cool if people who pre-order stuff can preload the title but be locked out of it until launch or were able to download it at midnight. Why do some titles get a midnight release on the PS Store but others don’t? Pre-ordering is essentially pointless.

  • @beef_child,
    well said :)

Today is a “State Holiday”… Cesar Chavez Day is being observed today, April 1, and it’s not an April Fools’ Joke.

I don’t know about your state, but here in California, some of our state/government offices are closed today. However, I’m not sure if SCEA would also be observing Cesar Chavez Day, but they might be, and it could explain why the blog team is seemingly absent today.

  • @84. TALLglassofWATER. Hell yea dude i agree, Elder Scrolls III Morrowind should be on the PSVita. It needs a RPG like that. Guess I gona have to bug Bethesda lol.

  • You know, I would typically assume a blog like this would be more or less written ahead of time, scheduled to go live at the time it should, unless something changes, like the availability of some of the titles, or the network in general.

  • I am hoping this delay on plus update has to do with nailing down some high quality discounts from publishers for the NA spring sale. UK was weak hopefully we get better.

  • PrimeroIncognito

Although, someone from the blog should have posted a notice in advance about the upcoming holiday and the related altered schedule to prepare everyone. That’s the part that flusters me. Only because I was interested in what the update had in store for us and I wasted about an hour-and-a-half just goofing off on the internet, with the blog open in another tab waiting for the Plus post, only to eventually have it dawn on me that Cesar Chavez Day might be observed today at SCEA’s offices.

If someone from the blog did post a notice about the holiday, then I apologize because I obviously missed it.

Eh, it’s not really a big deal though… just slightly annoyed. See y’all tomorrow.

  • I think the reason for the Drop not being posted yet is due to the problem with some people not being able to access to PlayStation store, as Morgan tweeted about a few hours ago.

  • PrimeroIncognito

    @ kenj77

Perhaps, but what does the store have to do with the Plus update? Is Morgan more than just a community manager, but a technician too, working on fixing the store?

The Plus update is only an announcement for the stuff that will be available every Tuesday of the month, with the earliest starting TOMORROW. It’s nothing that affects today. Nothing is being uploaded to the store. The Plus update only consists of text, which was probably (hopefully) drafted days in advance. It only takes a quick click of the “Submit” button to complete the task.

But if you saw Morgan tweeting about store-related issues, then maybe he’s at work, and maybe SCEA isn’t observing Cesar Chavez day after all. I just wish there was some clarification.

  • @kenj77, Not the Drop you mean the PS+ update but you are right i just saw Morgan Tweeted “Holding off on update because the store is having issues” So now everyone can chill out lol

  • @163 If they planned to honor Cesar Chavez day, they will probably announce the update on sunday or at least say that they will dont post any news today..

  • What, are they not posting today? lol they’re afraid if they announce some super awesome free game for PS Plus no one will believe them.

  • PrimeroIncognito

    @ D33DL1T

    Yeah, that’s what I was thinking…

The whole thing just had me perplexed for a moment. I thought they might be observing the holiday because SCEA’s offices are here in California, where I live. And I know that we, as a state, observe Cesar Chavez Day. So I thought there might have been a connection there.

I’d be happy to find out I’m wrong about that though… :)

  • Ok seriously what the HELL is this. Y hasn’t there been no plus updates!? How come when ever something good happens Sony does it best to disappoint us. It’s 6PM over here and we don’t have any Plus updates !? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!? This should have been done hours ago. Totally unacceptable sony.

  • Could it be that one or more of the games that will be on Plus are currently on sale. Sony trying to make every last buck.

  • April fools or whoever Chavez is, it’s not a legal holiday, update us already!

  • Primero, today is Cesar Chavez day? I was wondering why the fwy traffic is so light. It’s also opening day at Chavez Ravine, and sweet Jesus, Sandy Kofax at the mound!

  • what games are comig to ps+ for this month ? for the US

  • PrimeroIncognito

Lisa, technically, yesterday was Cesar Chavez Day, but like most holidays, it’s observed on the following Monday.

By the way, screw the Dodgers. Go Angels! Hee hee…

  • TALLglassofWATER

    anticipation _._

Did anyone else notice that when they posted March’s content and said it would be dished out weekly in “random order”
they actually released all the games in the order they were posted?

  • PrimeroIncognito

    @ SweetReLeaf

The store has been having problems for a long time though. For a little over a month now, every time I’ve tried to input codes to add funds to my wallet, I’ve had to try 4, 5, 6, or even 7 times before it would finally go through. An abundance of error codes and connection problems. I always got through eventually and finished what I was trying to do, but still, something needs to be cleaned up on that end.

Funny that they’d decide to finally do something about it today. And to hold back the monthly Plus forecast even though it’s not related to the store?

Maybe this really is an April Fools’ joke after all…

  • TALLglassofWATER

nvm, it was almost the same order they were posted in, save for disgea.

  • So we cannot see an update due to a PSN update? That’s complete garbage….seriously, as someone else said, all it takes is a little posting, we can’t even access the new content until tomorrow (evening for me in CST, and those in EST), so I don’t see why we have to wait for the update…but at least it’s a legitimate reason, and not a stupid April Fools Day prank…

  • Yeah…but why is Dennis Rodman on the cover of the Defiance box?

  • What is the news on PS+ Instant Game Collection? Anything new coming?

  • @181. LOL, wrong. Go back and read the post from March 4. It says, “Entering PS Plus in March (in no particular order)”

    -Spec Ops: The Line (PS3)
-Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention (PS Vita)
-Joe Danger 2: The Movie (PS3)
-Tekken 6 (PSP; Supported on PS Vita)
    -The Cave (PS3)

    This isn’t the correct order.

  • I hope we get some good games for Playstation Plus Members this month! We haven’t had a good PS+ game for free in months. :[ Bring us something good!

  • TALLglassofWATER

@ 185 because dennis rodman is an alien. Or have you never watched third rock from the sun?

  • Primero, don’t worry, the Dodgers will screw themselves, if overwhelming historical evidence can be believed :-(

Wasn’t there a store software update yesterday? I had to. I get a little confused because I have 3 PS3s so get hit with forced updates at differing times. However, why not just use SEN for redeeming codes, or just acct mgmt? Anything to stay out of store unless necessary.

  • @189
LOL…dude I totally forgot about that episode! Thanks for the memories.

  • TALLglassofWATER

@ 187 I already said I had been mistaken LOL indeed

  • TALLglassofWATER

he is in several episodes, I’ve been watching it on the netflix recently

  • @193
Yeah I should rewatch the entire series…used to watch it every day after school in rerun syndication form.

  • PrimeroIncognito

Lisa, I got the software update for the store a few days ago. And of course I could use other methods of adding funds, but I was going into the store to purchase and download stuff anyway, so I just did it from there.

  • @primerincognito, You’re right and i think most people would agree (The new store sucks really bad or it can’t keep up with this gen) either way that’s what Morgan said. Though I’m not sure what the store has to do with a blog update either. beats me.

  • Wait, so whats going on exactly? Are we going to get a post today or not?

  • Does anyone know if Defiance is going to be available at midnight?

  • LoL,yea….keep waitng.
They dnt give a Chit, show’m next time plus comes time torenew by NOT renewing plus.
The only thing they hear is money.

    Plusless and proud.

  • @ 198 I highly doubt it since the PSN is having difficulties according to some other people. It will if you get it on disc I imagine, but if you want it digital, you’ll have to wait until the next time the store updates (if it updates tomorrow like it is supposed to.)
