Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection for PS3

    As a huge MGS fan, I almost feel obligated to buy this, I already bought the HD collection special edition which has 75% of these games, and I own MGS4 already as well, but that artbook and VR missions will probably be the reason I buy this.

    Question though, is the artbook the same or different from the HD Collection special edition art book?

      Very different. The focus of the artbook here is completely different, the HD Collection had mostly production art and the artbook here is more marketing based. Can’t go too much into detail on what that means yet, but we should be previewing it at some point on our official MGS Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/mgs/

    And this is why I got a PS3. Metal Gear Solid 4 was the main reason but Metal Gear as a series is the overall reason.

    Hi Dalton,

    Does this mean that Snake Vs Monkey will return in MGS 3 Subsistence since it is a PS3 exclusive? We got denied it in the HD remake :(

    is MGS1 on disk or just a digital download? and if it’s a disk: is it a PS1 disc? Can I play it in my old ps1 and ps2 too?

    Hello, and thank you so much for making this collection, maybe this is an old silly question: are the MGS2 and MGS3 HD the PS2 Substance and Subsistance versions of the games?

      They are in fact the Substance and Subsistence versions of the games with some small changes where certain licensing deals may have made it impossible to include the original content. As far as the main game is concerned, they are nearly 100% true to the original with some gameplay/graphical improvements (especially when it comes to Peace Walker).

    Yeah… 3 whole missions totally 10 minutes of gameplay (That you have to work for about 2+ hours to unlock). Seriously? As much as I love the MGS series, and will continue to buy these ridiculous packs for the very few bonuses they offer, this is the first one I’m buying literally only for the damn art book. Everything else is pretty much the same as any fan already has, with no improvements (or bug fixes even) and it’s rather insulting that they keep doing this over and over much less trying to make it sound like the next best thing.

    Wake me when Ground Zeros comes out.

    It would be a good idea to add Snake as a DLC for Playstation All Stars Battle Royale. It would be a GREAT way to advertise this game and to make a lot of $$$. Snake is a really major request for this game as a DLC and a large community would buy and appreciate this.

    What Kojima should do is remake MGS1 with the Shadow Moses graphics of MGS4 Guns of the Patriots, now that would be sweet :-)

    I’ve been meaning to pick up the current hd collection but, after this was announced I couldn’t wait for a release date. 4 days after my birthday? Perfect. Just have one question though that I didn’t really see in the post, is the book preorder only or does it come with any regular edition of the game?

    Fantastic stuff…I’ve been a MGS fan and playa since the 1st MGS on PS1…nostalgic times when me and my father used to play together…I would pick this legacy bundle if it wasn’t for me having all the games included…I would really love to get the graphic novels and the artbook but fans always get the things early so this bundles end up desnecessary when announced….but did you just said playable Gray Fox?….dear God thats irresistible….I may try to sell my games to buy this bundle.

    Is there any possibility that you guys could patch MGS: Peace Walker for PSP so it reads the PS Vita and enables transfarring with PS3? I would also love to see a new MGS or even MG Rising game for PS Vita.

      We’re always making inquiries into where we think MGS would do best, if the demand is there, we will follow it. Unfortunately in the case of Peace Walker for PSP, there is some limitations and issues with the hardware/software cross platform that currently doesn’t allow us to enable Transfarring at this time, sorry.

    Bit dissapointed that Portable Ops isn’t included. I know it isn’t directed by Kojima, but it is a canon game and I would really love to play it on the ps3 for the second analog stock.
    Also comes as a surprise that a 2nd Digital Graphic novel exists, I always thought it had been cancelled but it was released in Japan?
    I bought the HD collection a couple of months ago so don’t really feel like pciking this up, not full price anyway. Will the second graphic novel and the VR missions be available seperately in the playstation store as well?

    You guys need to port over the original Metal Gear Online from Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence and put it on the PS3. Few online shooters were as fun as that, and I couldn’t get into MGO on MGS4 before the servers went down. Seeing how great Castlevania HoD is, I don’t think it would be too difficult for you guys, so I’m going to keep my fingers crossed.

    I have been waiting to hear this announcement and its finally here. like some of the other posters have posted i already own all of the games featured in the collection but i am more then willing to buy them all again to show my support for one of my all time favorite franchise. and this just adds more excitement for MGSV

    I’m really glad this is a thing. I already own all of this so, sadly, I’m not entirely sure that I’ll be picking it up, but it’s great for anyone who doesn’t already own it all.

    There is one glaring omission though: why no Portable Ops? I know there’s the name and everything but it’s still a canon entry in the series so wouldn’t it make sense for it to be part of such a collection? I get not including some of the non-canon entries like AC!D or Ghost Babel, but not having Portable Ops doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense to me.

    If anyone needs any MORE encouragement to buy this collection… (if the reviews don’t speak loudly enough…) here’s my take…….. THIS IS THE BEST GAME SERIES E V E R CREATED. What other game takes on politics, love, friendship, genetics VS how SOCIETY shapes you, government / information warfare, and a REAL story about REAL war (this ain’t no COD war story) and the REAL implications of war, what is important to pass on to future generations, etc…… oh, and what game INVENTED the stealth action genre, and what game has the best action cinematics / choreography of any game OR even any movie in my opinion? MGS ; ) Only the “Kill Bill” movies can match MGS’s over the top + artistic action cinematics in my opinion, and no game / movie matches it in all the other areas combined.

    Cant wait for this, I have all the games already obviously, but I will buy it for the beautiful artwork, to remember this great series (and to share it with my brother who never got into MGS….) and I hope it only becomes bigger in the future. MGS V you’re next!!!!!!!

    I would love to have a game with Gray Fox as a protagonist in the same vein as MG Rising or even MGS… He is definitely one of my favorite characters. Also, will the Gray Fox DLC ever be up for download?

    I would think hard about buying this because Metal Gear is one of my favorite. But to tell the truth I am a little aggravated with Konami and Sony with the lack of Metal Gear PO on the vita. So I think I will hold of buying anything until they figure out how to meet my needs on that first. Then I will meet there’s buy buying something from them. Not fussing about it is just thinking about the principal of it.

    I own MGS HD Limited Edition and MGS 4 and will still be picking this up. AND at $50? Come on how could you not wanna check this out? I kinda wish I didn’t buy the MGS HD LE because of this. Oh well I can still trade in MGS 4 towards this.

    BTW I’m kinda surprised MGS Portable Ops wasn’t included in some way. It’s still canon, even though it’s not directed by Kojima. Anyway could you please make it compatible with Vita soon? PLEASE?
