Here’s how it works: You’ll log into BidForGreatness.com using your PSN ID. The site will tally all of your hard-earned Gold Trophies, and you’ll use them to bid on 15 unique items (don’t worry, you’ll keep the actual Trophies associated with your PSN ID). You’ll bid on the items you want using Gold Trophies and skip the ones you don’t. Each day will see a new item go up for bid for just 24 hours, so be sure to check back often!
Of course, you’ll want to think strategically. Spend all your Gold Trophies in one shot to try and score your dream item, or split your proceeds and go for several? The choice is yours. And the best part is, if you’re short on Gold Trophies you can earn some on your PS3 and PS Vita then come back to bid again.

Great idea, poor execution. Not everyone that is a Sony fan hunts down trophies. I play games to have fun, not to earn trophies. I have been playing Playstation 3 for years, even before the PS3 had trophies. I have been around since the PS1 era. Kind of sucks to know that since I’m an adult with things to do I am going to be outbid by kids with nothing to do. I would rather this have been a regular contest because then EVERYONE with a PSN account would have a chance to win. The people that will win this are most likely going to be people that RENT games, and/or SHARE PSN IDs. I would not be surprised if all the winners won with BOOSTED trophies. With all that being said bring more contests like this please. I like the idea of it. If you want to reward people for their trophies maybe use a raffle system so that everyone has a CHANCE.

This “auction” should have been called #CheatForGreatness. Why not just send the props to the top 14 trophy cheaters in America and save all the legit people the disappointment?
@183 – Hahaha I have the Hannah Montana platinum and I won’t regret it. Just because a game is “family” or Disney doesn’t mean it’s not ever worth playing (even for trophies). Real human beings spent time away from their families and out of their lives to make these games, so in a way it’s respectful to play some of them. And the platinum took only about 6 hours. I could take a nap in that time. Hardly anything I’ll regret in 20 years XD.

@256 Sony did ban a bunch of them. Take Warfigher for example. He got banned a couple months ago and hasn’t earned a trophy since.
I think it sucks more that the forums nor the bid site work with Firefox. I get one line of error code on the forums over a gray BG and the bidding site just opens up an empty blue screen with bars on the top and bottom. When will Sony fix these?

Amazing idea, I absolutely love it but I really hope in the future they really consider a raffle system instead of just who has the most Gold Trophies. I say this because I am on my PS3 almost every day but really do not have nearly as many gold trophies as I wish and as some of these other guys do. When the first auction started and soon after it was already over 600 trophies so fast I just laughed. If they did a raffle system then maybe everyone would have a chance to win some of these epic prizes maybe 1 entry for every hundred or fifty gold trophies etc.. I just think it would be much more exciting for everyone. Besides that I think Playstation is doing it really smart with its entire Greatness Awaits Marketing ad campaign for the future of the brand and I just hope they keep talking to fans and continue the awesome job they are doing. I am not saying that this is 100% True but according to PSNProfile dot com site leaderboards under DIRTY With CHEATERS is the person who bid and won the first days Auction item psn name starts with RedS….. you can see it on the bid site.. I think that if this is in fact true than it defeats the entire purpose of this entire auction. These people who use these hacks, cheats, or anything else for trophies should not be allowed to take part in the auction. Use a raffle system next time please where you use 50 or 100 trophies, gold to buy a raffle ticket for the auction item or something similar that makes it fair for everyone to enjoy. please and thanks.

Are you going to validate the winners to make sure they aren’t hackers? Because if you are not then you shouldn’t even do this contest because it is unfair to those of us that actually work hard to earn our trophies and you are basically telling us it is better to use save files to get a lot of Gold trophies so that we can win awesome prizes.
this is going to be a fail if they don’t fix this because HACKERS will win everything and people that actually spend time and money on game will get nothing . plz fix this problem

While I think it’s a great idea to reward those dedicated gamers who have supported your system and your company over the years, the execution of this is horrible.
That first item went to someone who, according to their gamercard (yourgamercards.net), earned the vast majority of their trophies without actually EARNING them. Go have a look!

Come on! I have nearly 445 gold trophies that I have earned by actually PLAYING your games, and while I don’t dream that even that can compete without the other people who have legitimately earned their trophies and will be bidding on these items, it’s an absolute mockery and slap in the face to your customer base that you aren’t in some way at least doing some sort of validation that the currency you are using for your auction isn’t being checked for counterfeiting!
this is a brilliant idea very awesome indeed. but would it hurt to be able to send the item over seas? im mean really u have ppl in other country’s on psn other then one place and it had to be usa. don’t they get everything already? give other country’s a try to u know… anyways thanks for getting our hopes high for nothing lol.
awesome idea, but kinda sucks for most people who haven’t had all the time in the world to get trophies. I only have like 125 golds which is nothing seeing as the last winner won with 1050 golds.
